Is this dangerous...?

About a month ago I bought my Macbook Pro. I've been holding off an iCloud account because the PO had one synced to this computer. I've heard, and read horror stories of people trying to open their account on a device that already has an account on it, and BAM!...disaster.
Firmware lock, or PIN lock or something. I don't have the PO's info, except an email address which the iCloud is under. Could someone advice me?
BTW, when I open iCloud from the system prefs window, the first thing I see is MY Apple ID...it's just wating for my password. I'm nervous about it though.
So, is there a way to delete the POs info before entering my own?
Should I assume I wont have a conflict on my device, sense iCloud already has my Apple ID on cue?
...I'm gonna be patient and wait for a reply.

What's a PO? Parole Officer?
No matter - if you sign out of the PO's iCloud account and sign in using your iCloud ID, the PO's Contacts, Calendars, Safari bookmarks, Pages / Numbers documents that were uploaded to iCloud, and other data linked to his iCloud account will disappear and be replaced with yours. The PO's data would reappear if you were to sign out of your iCloud account and sign in again under his. There is no need to manually delete anything. Does that make sense?
An iCloud ID is not associated with a firmware lock, nor is it associated with the ability to run programs (apps). iTunes purchases are tied to your Apple ID and are unrelated to iCloud. You will not be locked out of your MacBook.

My cable charger is somehow twisted right next to the USB plug. Is this dangerous? Should I immediately change the cable?

    Hey Absal,
Apple usually manfucture this very safely, in the ast years i have used 15+ and it is safe to say that i never had any incidents. There are a lot layers to it and it is very safe but if the plastic bit is somehow damaged i suggest you change it. Why not risk anything for a simple plug that is not even very expensive.
I really hope this helps you. If not feel free to give me a shout.
    Best of luck!

  • Temperatures high - is this dangerous?

I installed the Radeon x1900xt GPU in my older (but not elderly) Mac Pro (2 x 2.66 dual-core) several months back. It began locking up during video-intensive processes, so I switched back to the built-in chip. Recently, as I was installing a new drive, I noticed the Radeon (which was still in there, doing God knows what damage to the rest of my comp with its high temperature - I was stupid and never actually pulled it from the chassis) was clogged with dust in the intake; so I cleaned it out and plugged it back in.
It seems to be running smoothly, but my iStat tells me that while my ambient temperatures are hovering around 25 C (77 F) my Northbridge temperature is sitting at 87 C (189 F) which seems, I don't know, really really high.
Is it dangerous to keep using it at these temperatures? I'm going to order a vid card cooler, some kind of Zerotherm or Thermaltake fan for the Radeon, but should I pull the card in the meantime or am I being silly about the temperature readings?

    >> I have downloaded firefox and this tab open immediately saying I also had installed flash (see below)
If that was really the first thing you saw after downloading Firefox - then you probably didn't get it from
https://www.mozilla.org/   and could have installed a modified version complete with any unwanted add-ons. If that is the case - I suggest restoring from a backup made before you did so.

  • Is this dangerous: 'PERMISSION WILL NOT BE REPAIRED'?

    Hello to all,
Last night I had put my Mac to sleep; today, when I woke it up I found a pop up stating that I had not ejected the disk properly, and that there will be an attempt to repair it. [It did not state which disc had not been ejected properly...I have several externals attached]. The pop up also instructed me that next time I eject a disk, I should select and eject it using the finder. My problem is this: I had only put the Mac to sleep and had not ejected any of the drives attached.
Anyway, thinking that it is better for me to do so, I opened up disk utility and started to repair/ repair permissions. All the external drives were given a clean chit, but while repairing disk permissions for the internal hard drive, I encountered this statement:
May I be informed by enlightened members as to what action I should recourse to in this matter? Is this a matter to be greatly concerned about?
    Thanks in advance.

There are many messages resulting from repairing permissions that can be ignored. See this Apple note for the list.

}I once have this experience, I nested for example, the method result_of_id_query in update_commit and run into connections being closed after the result_of_id_query is done. For this problem, I avoided using it but I've a few concerns in mind, I've the connection, resultset, statement declared as class variables to be used by all the methods, will I run into problems should multiple users requesting different JSP to access the methods in DBTest.java?
The rollback method in DBUtil.java is static, if multiple users access the same JSP and an error occurs, will the rollback go haywire?
Thank you in advance for the priceless advice.

Thanks duffymo and sjasja, I've got some questions on
    your advice.
I was thinking if everything is successful in try
block, close and set everything to null so that in
the finally block, the rollback method would
determine whether it needs to rollback. No, the rollback method has nothing to do with finally. That belongs in the catch, because if you end up there you KNOW things went wrong and it's time to get out.
Don't do any resource cleanup in the try. That's what finally is for.
    How about, I
implement both duffymo and sjasja methods: setting
the database objects to null in try block follow by
putting the rollback with boolean check and closing
the database objects in finally block, would that be
    alright?Not in my opinion.
Are you referring to this: Yes, I mean that I'd take off the Hungarian notation like "closeST" and "closeRS" and just call all of them "close". The parameters make what you're closing clear.
How about the static method for rollback? Would it be
taken care of if I move all the database resources to
each method scope as mentioned by duffymo and
    sjasja?No.
Initially, I need table relationship but I dropped
InnoDB because of higher overheads (as compared to
ISAM). As time passby, I need it again for
transaction purposes, if I use referential integrity,
would be an expensive operation and would it
complicate coding? It doesn't change your coding in Java at all. It's just part of table creation. But it's the only table implementation in MySQL that does enforce referential integrity as far as I know. I wouldn't use anything else for MySQL. That's why I prefer PostgreSQL now.
Are both of you referring to this: public void
    error(Object message,
    Throwable t)
    .error("Exception: " + e.getMessage(),
    e.printStackTrace());
Yes, e.getMessage() is less information that the stack trace. I always log the stack trace.
In each JSP page (if there's any requirements that
need DBTest), I would call db.DBtest
newInstance = new db.DBtest(); Is it
inefficient coding? Is there any way to close this
newInstance just like closing the database resources
eg: .close()?You shouldn't be calling this code in JSPs or writing scriptlets, but that's another story. (Hint: Go learn about JSTL.) I don't know how to advise you on such a thing, but you've got to get the code that closes your resources into a finally block in your scriptlet code somehow.
It'd be better if you moved this code OUT of the JSPs. Have them contact a servlet that calls other classes that do the database work and manage all the resources. Have the servlet put the response objects back into response scope for the page and just display them.

  • Dual 2.5 reaches 206 degrees importing video...is this dangerous?

    Hey guys,
My 2.5 has been acting wierd for awhile. I was importing a 34 mb file into iMovieHD which took about 2 minutes to do (thought that was kinda long) and I was monitoring the temperature and cpu stats while doing so. It consumed about 65% of my cpu and was fluctuating between 181 degrees and 206. Is this abnormally hot? My fans were revving constantly to cool it, but I just don't want anything to happen. Thanks.

I do not think that temperature is abnormal. The cooling system was designed to keep the fans as quiet as possible while keeping the CPU within spec. Depending on how the actual load on the CPU changes over time the fans will fluctuate and the temperature will bounce around.
The software is also designed so that if the cooling doesn't keep up, and the CPU's get too hot the system will automatically go to sleep (not shutdown). If you find your machine unexpectedly asleep you can log at the system log to tell if it was caused by a thermal event.

  • Dangerous to use Ipod in bathtub?

Im using my Ipod and Koss headsett everyday when Im in bathtub. Its really nice, I dont have my Ipod in the water but on a chair beside the bathub. Is this dangerous? Can I get shock? I have done this in about 3 weeks and no problems so far.

"Assuming the iPod is not plugged into the wall and it's just running off the battery, you can't get hurt/electrocuted from the iPod dropping into your bath water... it has no where near the stored energy or current capacity to hurt you. Obviously, the water will probably ruin the iPod though."
Thank You! The one and only post that did make sense. I also thought that the small battery inside the ipod can do no harm do man. You all should try bathtubipodheadset! ITS FUN AND SAFE! SAFETY FIRST!

  • Imported music CD movie soundtrack as separate tracks rather than full album. How do I correct this so that only shows as album?

I purchased the CD of the soundtrack of the new Les Miserables movie. When I imported it into iTunes for loading to my iPhone 5, the album was split into separate tracks by artist. How do I get my library (and subsequently my iPhone listing) to show only the full Album?

option discovered in preferences. Really this and any feature that moves deletes or edits a users data should as far as possible be OFF BY DEFAULT. It shouldn't by default and without the users specific say do this dangerous and unnecessary thing without even letting the user know what it's doing!!! And then cause me a few hours (as i'm new to mac) searching for the option so as to switch it off. If i hadn't noticed the status cage declaring that it was copying files then i might never have twigged that this insane thing was occurring. And if i hadn't of noticed i would have been left maintaining the contents of the folder i copied the files to, the folder which as far as i was informed and so believed was also the location of the music files i was playing. How does Apple justify this 'genius' piece of software non-design? Surely it will hurt no one if this was off by default for new users - overall at least i dare say it would cause a lot less distress in the future for the unsuspecting public at large. Thanks for the support.

  • Buzzing iMac is it dangerous?

I have a Strawberry iMac (DV/400), when turned off the computer makes a buzzing noise. However when it is turned on the buzzing goes away. I suspect it is the power supply....
Question is, Is this dangerous? Is it becoming a potential fire risk?
    Regards,
    Martin

    Martin,
    Welcome.
I would just unplug the computer after you power it off. I have never worked on a power supply for an iMac.
But I "personally" don't believe it should be making a buzzing sound after it has been powered off. Do double check to make sure your power cord is fully plugged in the back of the iMac. Again, I have never worked on an iMac power supply but it should not be buzzing after it has been powered off.
Maybe ask your local apple tech to see if it is a problem that needs to be addressed.

  • Is this overclocking?

    Hi all -
I have a 3D software called Maxwell that I rarely run. I was running it today to test the fans (the fans worked great - yeah!) But on Activity Monitor I noticed that this process was running at between 180 and 198 % ???! How can this be? Shouldn't it only max out at 99 or 100%. Is this overclocking the CPU? Just curious...is this dangerous for the life of the notebook?
Any thoughts or info would be appreciated.
    Best,
    M.

You have a dual-core CPU, so it can run at 200% (100% on each core). This is not overclocking, and is, in fact, normal behavior when running CPU-intensive tasks using a program that is capable of multi-threading.

    - Any possibly reason behind this, I would like to know :

Do you have a imap email account with some relationship to apple (icloud)?
After some more research I think you do:

Incoming server is imap.mail.me.com. If I ping imap.mail.me.com it says it's IP is 17.172.34.200 which is in the range you see above.
So should you be worried?  Guess not if you trust icloud and apple mail servers.
