Is this feature still present?

There was a feature I ran into in Logic years ago that worked as follows:
say you launch logic and are noodling, not in record or anything, and all of a sudden you play something you love and want that on a track, so there's an option to take what you just played and open it up on a track, because Logic is always "listening" and just dumps the contents of a buffer onto the track.
I can't remember what enabled this feature then, or if it's still there now - but the event counter in the transport window seems to indicate it should still work....
Any ideas?
Thanks
Richard

You kinda can for audio, as long as you have punch in recording enabled, you can be noodling along in play (with a track record enabled of course and then hit record. It will appear to start recording at the point at which you hit rec. However, if you grab the left bottom corner of the resulting region, you will be able to drag it open, back to the point at which you hit 'play'... Cool huh?

I used to use Genius to help me find new music to purchase and found the feature to be very helpful.  Is this feature still available?

In iTunes 12, make sure that the menu bar is showing, click on Store, and click on Turn On Genius.
NOTE: You may have to explore a little, because this applies for the OS X version of iTunes.

  • HT5295 The old podcast player in the music app allowed you to rate the podcast which later gets uploads to iTunes. Is this feature still in the new app?

It's a pretty straight forward question, the podcast player that is built into the music player in iOS has a star rating feature that allows users to rate everything from music to podcasts which is than transfered to iTunes. Since Apple seperate podcasts with it's own app, I have been unable to find the star rating feature in the podcast app. Does anyone know if this is hidden somewhere in the app or can be turned on? It was a really useful feature and I'm surprised Apple didn't expand it further to allow listners to transmit their ratings to podcast producers.

  • Photos app scrolling bug STILL present in iOS5

    Hi all,
There have been numerous threads posted about a bug in the Photos app where the events and albums listed appear underneath the titlebar. As opposed to the titlebar being a solid colour, it is opaque so you can see the list underneath it which is really annoying and can sometimes prevent you from being able to select the album you want.
Here is an example screenshot: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ronaldkunibert/6264912500/in/set-72157627940413408/
I'm disappointed this is still present in iOS5. It is such an obvious bug, how has this still gone unnoticed by Apple? Does anyone have any further info on this?
P.S. The trick of force-closing the app doesn't work anymore either.

1.2 fixes a bug in the auto-write mechanism that severely effected the performance of auto-write when files with changes were offline. Unfortunately, we didn't have time in the cycle to drastically enhance performance of the XMP auto-write mechanism for making large batches of changes or toggling the option on and off. The Lightroom team is aware of these issues and is working to resolve them for a later release.
The wording of the download page is pretty obscure. For a more accurate, detailed review of the changes in 1.2, please refer to the blog post at http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/ . For a better understanding of ways to use the auto-write mechanism in the interim, check out my post at

  • Is the timeline in Photoshop Elements feature still there?

I am looking to upgrade my Elements software. I am still running 3.0 as it still worked for me.
One feature I really liked about the photo organizer is the timeline view. It allow me to find photos very quickly.  I believe I saw a tutorial for 11.0 and it was mentioned.
Is this feature still there?  If not when did Adobe stop including it?
    Thanks

  • Firefox - is there a way to implement this feature?

I personally enjoy the convenience of the addons firefox has to offer, but there is one thing from Windows I wish I retained, and that is when I try to insert a file, I want to view all the thumbnails rather than the one of the file that I am highlighting. This feature is present in the rekonq browser, but I wish to keep my addons. Is there a way to implement the rekonq's file browser into firefox, or something much like it?

In Firefox, in gtk native environment, by default you see thumbnails, but first you need to create they: just first open the folder that has the pictures with Nautilus; after this you can see the thumbnails in firefox.

  • Firefox could once pretend it was another make of browser eg. Internet Explorer. Is this facility still available? Thank you for your help.

Some organisations claim not to support Firefox, only IE. I had this problem some time ago and Firefox at that time had a feature that on log on to such a site could pretend to be another make of browser. Is this feature still avaiable? Your guesses on current browser and OS are correct. I am running Linux Mint 12.

  • Before Mountain Lion and Aperture 3.4 Iphoto libraries would show up as a project.  Can I still have this feature?

Before Mountain Lion and Aperture 3.4 Iphoto libraries would show up as a project.  Can I still have this feature?  I want to keep my iphoto libraries on another drive but now it appears the only way I can have Aperture search all libraries for a photo is to merge the aperture library with all the iphoto libraries. In the past the photos were referenced photos in their orginal libraries but now we are creating one big aperture library.  Does this make sense?  I liked the old way were the iphoto libraries showed up in the left window as a project.  Does anyone know of a work around?

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7 or later: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • When I plugged my iPhone into a computer, the music that I deleted are still present on my iPhone but are grey/ghostly. Is there any way I can delete this!? It's taking up too much space!!!!

I deleted a bunch of songs by sliding over the song, and simply deleting it. When I plugged it into my sisters laptop, the music is still present and ghostly/grey looking. I can't slide over it and delete it. It's taking up too much space on my iPhone!!! How can I delete these!?
(the computer used to sync music from my iPhone and such isn't working, so I do everything not from a laptop)

It can't do that by itself. You had to click through several prompts telling it to restore it from a backup of an old phone for that to happen.
If the phone was not backed up to iCloud before this happened, or to another computer, then the data is gone. There is no way to recover it.

  • [DATA LOSS] I closed the Tab Groups and all my tabs dissapeared. How can I recover the tabs in Firefox 26? Would you please just delete this feature?

Thank-you in advance for reading all of this.
A slip of the mouse in trying to return to the left-most tab caused the tab groups feature to take over the window. I completely failed to comprehend what I was looking at and closed the thing by clicking the x because I damn sure didn't want what I was looking at. Undo close group? Of course not, I didn't want a group in the first place. Hey! My tabs are completely gone now! So in just a few steps all of which seemed innocent, I have lost all but ten of the tabs that were open, and those were only the most recent ten (and actually older tabs would have been more valueable than newer so insult on top of injury).
I don't think increasing the number of undoable tab closures is the answer. I think getting rid of the tab groups feature all together is the best way to go. I seem to have lost all the tabs I had open, irretrievably, and some of them had been open for WEEKS so they can't be reopened from history.
The tab groups feature is a data loss bug. Please remove it from the UX completely. If you have to figure out a way to grandfather people who actually have a tab group, fine but don't further vex me with it, please.
The reason this catastrophe has occurred is that your feature, was so discoverable that I activated it by mistake, and the UI after that had to be learned on the spot, yet was too complicated to learn. You really should withdraw it until you can figure out how to keep the UI for it from causing data loss such as I have experienced this morning.
Also, there may be other questions on this feature which are from a certain point of view the same as this one. It's hard for me to tell for sure. None of them had a true resolution so that's why I posted this one, also I'm seeking a specific fix, removal of the offending feature.
Why remove the feature? Because if I allow in my discussion the possibility of retaining it, it will stick around in its present and dangerous form until your team is done bikeshedding the new form it should take. Instead I want you to delete the feature and then require its champion to convince you that a new incarnation won't cause data loss before you allow it back in.
Fellow users, if you know of a way to recover all 50 lost tabs from an "undo close tab group incident", I would be grateful for that advice, but I would still believe the feature should be deleted. Some of the tabs have been retained for months so digging them out of the history is not practical.

I am not 100% certain but I am fairly sure development of this tab feature has ceased and it is likely to be deprecated. I am even less sure what the replacement will be.

I have not tried this and am not even using Windows at present but the tabs groups are stored as entries in the sessionstore.js files. Firefox has such a file plus sometimes numbered copies and a backup copy. Firefox will have re-writen these files but I suppose there is a posibility the Windows OS may have kept copies.

  • Up2date --undo "This feature is deprecated and no longer functional."

We are trying to se up a Patch Mangement strategy. Our initial thoughts are to have a yum repository updated to a point in time. Then this repository will be used to update the test environment first, then (once it is tested) the dev environment, then production. All from the same 'static' yum repository.
Our question comes in about 'rolling back' this upgrade if something breaks. The up2date --undo is not longer functional. We have read alot about the rpm rollback and repackage features. But cannot find any current documentation.
Is anyone managing their patching this way, and have a 'rollback' function in place?
    Thanks.

While the "--rollback" feature appears to be still present in the versions of rpm(8) shipped with RHEL5/OEL5, the feature was eventually discarded as being unreliable. The RPM/YUM folk decided this was the wrong approach anyway so the rollback code just got tossed.
Here is a snippet from the Fedora 11 rpm(8) changelog. Now ordinarily you can see the changes in an RPM package like this:
$ rpm -q --changelog <rpm-package-name>But the RPM changelog has gotten so long, some of it is just packaged in the stock documentation:
    $ cd /usr/share/doc/rpm-*/
    $ bzless Changelog.bz2

Remove repackage support to finish off with rollback
The two main classes of rollback/repackage need are
        1) Gimme back the previous version, this broke XYZ on my system.
This is better handled by downgrading to the previous version of original
package instead of repackaged garbage. We should maintain real package
           (version) history somewhere.
        2) Upgrade messed up my configuration.
Instead of repackaging everything we could be far more intelligent
wrt config files, stick them into real version control or at least have
           hooks to do so.
RPMCALLBACK_REPACKAGE_* and RPMTRANS_FLAG_REPACKAGE definitions left around
to avoid needlessly breaking everybodys callbacks (for now)

        Remove rollback support
        - not possible to do reliably within rpm

Remove support for automatic rollback on failure
        - doing this reliably from rpm is simply not possible as there's no way
to undo script actions, might as well not pretend we can
        - for a feature that's not generally usable it complicates mainline code
          way too much

  • Old screensaver bug still present in Snow Leopard

This bug has driven me mad in the past (since Tiger!) and I am still getting it on Snow Leopard.
    Scenario:
    1. Invoke screensaver
    2. Wake computer
    3. Get password prompt for a split second - (it disappears, like a focus issue).
    4. left with a blank screen and cursor. No means of logging in.
    5. try to re-invoke screensaver by either putting to sleep via power button or closing lid.
    6. Awaken computer - same thing happens.
This doesn't happen 100% of the time but it does require a hard reboot to get out of.
This is one of those bugs that i've managed to live with for a few years but i'm starting to go mad when its still present in the Snowleopard! (pls excuse my venting!)
Obviously the easy issue is to disable the screensaver password - but you'd think this would be fixed by now - Or am I just being stupid and missing something obvious?
    Cheers,
    Steve </vent>

I am experiencing both your size issue and a different bug concurrently.
I also get the 'white' image bug if scrolling through images and then quickly backtracking to a previous one. Then that image will remain white until I close quicklook and reopen it on a different file. Reopening on the same file still results in a white image.  Happened under 10.9 and is happening to me under 10.9.2 on a Macbook Pro, 2010 iMac and non-apple branded um, mac. Size and file type don't matter.
I get a similar log entries once in a while but the backtracking white image thing doesn't cause quicklookd to spam any console info that is searchable in the console.
Removing quicklook plugins, clearing it's cache and whatnot didn't do anything.
    *EDIT*
    http://support.cocoatech.com/discussions/announcements/6-quicklook-issues-pf-652
Apparently my 'snap back' issue is was caused by the version of Path Finder 6 I was running on those machines.
It would seem that there are a number of other issues with the 10.9 quicklook API. I guess I'm going to wait and hope it gets fixed.

  • Can't delete file after renaming due to Word file handle still present. Error staes document is still in use but it's really not. Worked fine in 2007 but not in 2010.

I have some code associated with a Word Template. The template is opened, filled out and saved via a routing in vba. This all works fine in older 2007 version (which is version it was originally created in). Once this file is saved, the user can change the
date in a text box and re-save document. The code saves using the new date for part of new file name and then deletes that older file from the server. It fails at the delete function because the newer version of word is not dropping the file handle from the
first named file when user saves it to the new filename. In older version (2007) this handle was released as soon as file was saved to a different name. I can't seem to figure out how to release the old document filename so the old document file can be deleted.
I hope I explained this well enough.

    mogulman52 and Don,
I went back and looked at my code and had already updated it to SaveAs in the new docx format. It still holds the lock handle in place until Word closes, unlike earlier versions which released the lock handle when you did a SaveAs.
As a note, all my Word and Excel macro-enabled (dotm & xltm) templates are read only and are never filled in, prompting the user for a file name on any close event or if they run the code gets auto-named. I do the SaveAs and concatenate the file name
from data on the document (or sheet) that has been filled in. During the SaveAs the docx gets saved to a network folder and also on a local folder. The lock gets renamed to the filename and remains until Word is closed.
So my code still fails at the point noted below while trying to delete an old filename version after the file has been saved as a new filename in a new folder. So....
The code is looking in the last folder where the docx file was saved for the older filename so it can be deleted. The newest docx version has already been saved in a different folder and has a new lock handle of its own. That lock is not my problem, it's
the older file lock which really exists in the same folder as the first filename that the docx was saved to. It does not release that lock until I exit Word. My work around has been to instruct all users to manually delete the older version file.
The other odd thing is this only happens when I run it from code, if you manually go through these steps with the SaveAs menu drop-downs in Word it will release the lock handle???
Hope this isn't to confusing and thanks for all your suggestions and help.

    Hi Octopus,
Based on the error message, it seems that the Visio Graphics Service is not started or the Enterprise feature is not enabled.
I recommend to check the things below:
Go to Central Administration > System Settings > Manage service on server > check if the Visio Graphics Service is started > then click Application Management > Manage service applications > check if the Visio Graphics Service application
    is created.
Go to the root site settings page of the site where you got this error, click Site collection features to check if the SharePoint Server Enterprise Site Collection Features is enabled.

  • I can no longer drag a link to a folder -- a Windows folder -- to save it. This feature is (was) very useful as I could save links relevant to my work in the folder for the project.

In previous versions I have been able to drag the icon from the address bar to a Windows folder, producing a clickable link in that folder.
I even have FAQ and Help files on various web sites advising people to do that as it is very useful to have links to web sites in a folder relevant to the content of the folder.

This is very frustrating -- this feature worked in ver. 3, not sure about 4, but now FF 5 has removed it. This is important enough to me to either revert to v. 3 or use Opera (see below).
IE v. 8 has removed it too.
Opera v. 11 will do it -- but it only saves to the desktop and not to folders, so you have to drag the icon to the desktop and then drag it into the folder.
I use this regularly with presentations -- will be doing one next weekend -- and I take it on a USB memory stick to someone else's computer. I can click on a link in the presentation folder and have that page open in their default browser. It does me no good to have the link in my bookmarks back at my office.
If you're going to remove the feature, you might ought to remove the suggestion to use it at:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Mouse_tips
    and
https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Creating a desktop shortcut to a web page
    Please restore this feature!
