Is this how Apple is "giving" Mavericks away? (Ads?)
Got up this morning and the Mavericks install was complete.
Finding something odd I wanted to search for here on the support communities, I jumped to this forum - and every single page load gets this pop up ad, that does not appear to be from Apple. If I close it out (click the "x"), the next page load brings it right back:
#1 - what in the world is allowing this ad to appear?
#2 - is this Apple's way of playing the Google game?
#3 - how can I remove/turn that off?

Found it.... Glimmer Blocker (now labeled as "Glims") updated yesterday... a new feature is they serve up their own ads (but can be disabled)... No warning. How nice of them.
I find it interesting that I used Safari with the new Glimmer Blocker version yesterday and never saw any of these ads (but also didn't visit the Apple discussions).

The fax setup and fax logs would be the only personal information that would remain in the printer after the power is removed. Make sure you do not have any camera card left in the slots in the lower left front of the printer.

The apps that were under the 5 year of the App Store banner are no longer free. They are now, once again, for fee apps and that banner is gone from the store front. It was A limited time deal and appears to have ended. Those app developers were not going to give their apps away forever.

I didn't say it was 'only' with M-Audio but the interfaces that are failing tend to be either older M-Audio ones or ones that follow the same sort of design or were designed by the same Dev teams.. such as Alesis for example... though a few USB mics have failed as well..
Other USB2 devices such as Motu and Apogee interfaces are unaffected.... even if they are class compiant (driver free) though in the main, most Pro level USB2 devices now do have drivers for them even if initially they were supposed to be driver free devices... for other reasons..
The Motu Audio Express will happily work without drivers as it is class compliant.. and is unaffected by this 10.0.5 issue... as will the Apogee Quartet... which is another class compliant driverless USB2 device and that seems to be unaffected by this issue too
Also, I am not aware anyone has said it was Mavericks related though actually it could be.. in the sense that something in the 10.0.5 update was changed to reflect/hook into new routines in Mavericks... and that could have tripped up certain USB2 devices... -

hi over the past month have received maybe 5 scam emails from apple.
I opened one the other day cause I thought well maybe it is from apple.
went through the steps and it was amazed at how well they did at copying apple website. you could even go to the apple shop page from their page!
what set me off that it was fake was that I tried to open the other apple pages along the top and it wouldn't let me. so I opened my own apple page and logged in. and realised that they don't ask for your bank details in your Apple ID account.
anyways so now what has happened is I got an email today " from myself" with this same scam email. it is as if they have hacked my email account and sending me these emails. I want to report this to apple but am unable to find any contact details apart from call back options. does any one have any advice on this.I've had that same exact issue, I received the first e-mail claiming to be from Apple last night (though over the past week I've received two other scam e-mails from different addresses claiming that my bank transactions have been aborted). It said it was from my own address, and I checked it closely to make sure it wasn't a spoof account but found it was indeed my own e-mail address. Five minutes ago I changed my password, and I have just now received a second e-mail exactly the same, still coming from my own account. My best guess at an explanation is that it may have been sent before I changed my password and there was just a delay in the message sending, resulting in it coming through after changing my password.
I've now forwarded the e-mail on as an attachment to the [email protected] address, however this still doesn't help me with regards to stopping these e-mails. It concerns me that even though I changed my password they still possibly have access to my account. I tried checking my account activity but as opening the mail app on my iPhone is considered as a log in and I check it almost twice an hour, it's impossible to tell which could possible be an intruder logging in. -

I had a similar problem myself. This is what helped me.
I went to the App store app, scrolled to the bottom, logged out of the account, re logged in with my Apple ID. Then went back to app updates. Once I put in my ID password all was fine. -
I can't log in the App store because am from Zambia which is not listed in Apple outlets. How do i go around this as apple products are used globally and not only in the listed countries. My product is a Mac book pro. i feel this limits how i can use my product
Unfortunately you have taken an Apple product outside of the area where Apple currently does business. There isn't legally a way around this. Apple cannot license apps to you where you currently live.

Do you run any antivirus software on your Mac? Antivirus software can slow down the normal operation of OS X and have negative effects on system performance.
Do you have apps like MacKeeper or any other maintenance apps like CleanMyMac 1 or 2, TuneUpMyMac or anything like these apps, installed on your Mac?
These types of apps, while they appear to be helpful, can do too good a job of data "cleanup" causing the potential to do serious data corruption or data deletion and render a perfectly running OS completely dead and useless leaving you with a frozen, non-functional Mac.
Plus, these type of apps aren't really necessary.
They really aren't.
There are manual methods to clear off unnecessary data off of your Mac that are safer and you have complete control over your Mac and not just leave a piece of auto cleaning software in charge of clearing off data off of your Mac.
These apps potential of causing OS X issues outweighs the implied good and benefits these types of hard drive or memory "cleaning" apps are written to do.
Plus, the software company's that write these apps make it hard to easily uninstall these apps if something DOES go wrong and these apps work in a way where you have no recovery or revert function to return your Mac back to its former, working state in the event something does go wrong.
It is best to never download and install these types of apps.
The risk to your system and data is too great a risk! -
How do I teach Mavericks' Dictation new words? Is this even possible?
I've been fiddling with the dictation feature in Mavericks and am having a blast with it. I never felt that the cost of Dragon Naturally Speaking was worth it for me as I'm a fast typist. However, the fact that dictation is now available at no cost with Mavericks means that it's now worth it to me to use it.
Here's my problem, which by no means is unique to me, and it may well be just a limitation of what the built-in dictation can do.
I'm a roleplayer in World of Warcraft, and one of the things I do is come up with character history and culture, which is very common among the community, especially for the race I play in the game, which does not have very much pre-written (by the publisher's writers) lore. So the community comes together to create its own.
Like many other niche areas of study, there's specialised vocabulary and lexicon that comes into play here that doesn't exist in standard English. The name of my character's race ("draenei") is one of these, and because the word doesn't appear in standard dictionaries, Mavericks' Dictation doesn't recognise it.
I would like to be able to teach this word (and others) to Mavericks so that I don't need to manually correct the output as I work. I am using the offline dictation option as I don't feel comfortable with using Apple's servers and I also like being able to work from anywhere and I love getting live preview of what I'm saying.
Is there a way to do this "inline" (a spoken command on-the-fly to add the word to the dictionary)?
I've tried spelling the word out, which then results in Mavericks attempting to interpret my speaking the letters as separate words, with mixed luck (I'm hoping it trains to my voice over time). I'm hoping that I just don't know the right command (like "new paragraph" or "comma" and so on).
If it turns out that this can't be done, I may try creating a keyboard shortcut in the System Preferences Keyboard pane so that I can have an abbreviation replaced by the word but I'd prefer to be able to speak naturally and to have Dictation properly understand the lexicon I'm using. It would be a huge hassle to add shortcuts for every single instance of special terminology for my application or for any other -- I imagine that any doctors out there would quite sympathise with my plight!It's a pre-installed app and therefore cannot be deleted so you may have inadvertently moved it onto a screen or into a folder. Check all screens and folders and do a search in Spotlight, it will tell you if the app it still on your iPhone but unfortunately not where it is. If you find it on one or your screens or in a folder, press the icon until it wiggles and then drag it back to where you want it. Alternatively you can reset your home screen in Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout. You may also want to check Restrictions to make sure it hasn't been disabled Seetings>General>Restrictions>Camera>ON.

Not any more, no. There was a free bumper program back when the iPhone 4 originally came out. It has long since expired.
