Is this legal?

Hi
I am wondering if it is legal to rip music off of a friend's ipod. An example: Using ipod rip to transfer his music to my itunes library for personal use. Thanks for any help!

No, it is not.

    Yes, you can use GarageBand loops for commercial purposes. Here's the Apple Doc:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2931
    (Basically the only thing it excludes is to re-distribute the loops as loops.)
    I don't know about the YouTube form, maybe you just fill in "Apple Loops", they certainly have come across this before.

  • License: Is this legal/kosher?

    One of the companies I do work for has an XServe G5 with 10.4 Server installed. It runs AFP, iChat, NFS, Web, and Windows services. They want to move some of those services onto another machine for performance reasons.
    Is it legal/kosher to install their 10.4 Server license onto a second machine, without a duplication of services? IOW, if I were to have the XServe running AFP and Windows services, and move all the other services onto a second computer (e.g., a mirror door G4), would that be a license violation?
    My gut instinct says that it would but I would like to make sure.

    It's not possible to do this legally.
    If puchase cost is an issue, the company might consider purchasing a 10-user version of OSX server. The 10-user limit applies only to simultaneous AFP connections. So, for load distribution the 10-user version could be made an Open Directory replica and serve iChat, NFS, Web, VPN, routing, DNS, DHCP, as well as providing a 'hot' backup for all the directory information.

  • Is this legal? (Copying Entire iTunes Library)

    Hi
    I know how to do it, but want to know if this is legal. I'm going on a long haul flight next week and want to copy my entire itunes library to my Macbook Pro then delete all the music and just keep the TV Shows and Movies for watching on route, is this legal?
    Thanks

    Hello there,
    So you are talking about just moving your library over to a new computer? If so, then yes, it is legal. Nothing wrong with that. People do it all the time.
    As long as you aren't copying it to somebody else's computer for them to have or keep.

    Do noy buy yourself a world of trouble.  This forum will refuse to answer "Why is my JB phone not connecting to internet?????"  And his "help" post was removed.  The facts about Apple's official position are clear, for those who want Apple's continued support.  John does not like it, but not liking it never made something untrue.

  • Countries and Purchasing - is this legal?

    I was looking at the soundtrack for Blood and Chocolate because I was wanting to buy "Stand My Ground," a song by a group called Within Temptation.
    Anyhow, iTunes U.S. doesn't have it.
    But iTunes Netherlands does, and one guy suggested we go buy the song in the Netherlands. Even if this is possible, it seems a little fishy to me.
    I really want this song, I've requested the artist several times, and I will pay iTunes for it. The question is: is this legal? If it isn't, should I report this to Apple?
    Thank you,

    It's not fishy, you just can't do it.
    You need a credit card with a billing aqddress in the country you are trying to use the iTunes store in.

  • OEM Software....Is this Legal

    I want to purchase DreamWeaver8 to do a Web site for a
    non-profit agency. I want to make sure that the software I buy is
    legal. I will not be charging the non-profit agency for developing
    their site. I found a place on-line called ClubMx.com that offers
    OEM DreamWeaver8 for a very low price. I'm sure it is too good to
    be true. Is it legal to sell OEM software?

    It's a case of too good to be true, don't do it.

  • Only 1 year warranty for my macbookpro, is this legal in germany?

    Hi,
    I bought my macbook pro 15month ago and now I found out that I got only 1 year warranty.
    In germany 2 years of warranty is the normal case I know well from other technical goods.
    Does anybody know if it's legal to sell goods with only one year of warranty in germany?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Thorsten

  • Queston, is this legal?

    i acn hack into the ipod and take the songs (bought)and unprotect them, edit them, and save them. is it legal?

    If you are taking about iTunes purchases, unfortunately discussing this subject is not permitted on Apple's forums as the recently updated Apple Discussions User Agreement now clearly states.
    Under item 2, para 8.2 it says "Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store."

  • IS THIS LEGAL?? Original Creditor listed as the Debt Collector instead of Capital One!!

    I just checked Quizzle and I know that the scores are FAKO scores, but I was really checking the credit reports. I had to fill out a form to send in for my husband's and my reports as they will not allow us to pull online.  Anyway I found this!
    Is is legal for Capital One to list PR as the original creditor??? We never signed any paperwork with PR!! They are the debt collector on my and my husband's reports!!

    I would speculate that it is an error on the part of the party who produced the credit report rather than an inaccuracy of reporting to your credit file. The substance is unaltered... you have one OC and one debt collector.Assertion of "illegality" would be based on an assertion that they have intentionally misreported inaccurate information.I see no basis for making such an assertion.

  • Is this legal or could I get sued

    If I see a board game would it be legal for me to program it on the computer in java and distribute it on the internet not for money. I don't want to get sued.

    I'm not a lawyer, but I would guess that no, it is not legal. Somebody (probably the company that distributes the game, but maybe somebody they license from) almost certainly holds the copyright on the game, and whether you do it for money or not, you're not allowed to create derivative works without permission from the copyright holder.
    I think copyrights expire after 25 or 50 years, so if it's and old enough game, it might be in the public domain.
    You'll definitely want legal counsel before you go through with this.

  • Local MacStore won't cover Applecare Protection for Ipod!!!! is this legal?

    Today I went to my local MacStore wanting to buy the Applecare Protection for Ipod, and they told they didn't sell it. So I asked..."ok I can still buy it from apple.com and you guys provide the service right?"....and for my surprise I got this for an answer: "No, we don't sell it, we don't provide service for AppleCare for Ipod. We only cover the 1 year warranty".
    I thought the warranty was global!!, is this even legal?!!?
    Panama City, MacStore.
    Ipod white 30Gb   Windows XP

    What is MacStore?
    Wops, that's the Apple retail store name.
    There are no retail Apple stores in Panama City.
    Yes, there are. They don't show on apple's english listing but they do show on latin america's "find a reseller" listing.
    If it
    does not, you can send it in. Apple Retail stores
    may exchange it.
    So, the retail stores are free to deny any applecare warranty claims. I'll have to deal with Apple directly after my 1 year warranty?
    Thanks for your time.

  • Developers question, is this legal?

    wasnt really sure where this goes so i'm posting here. ok so i want to make a program, that is sort of like ipod and itunes utilities, stuff like that, is it legal to include ipod firmware files in the program, so people can downgrade ipods. or is it not legal? do i have to give credit to apple?
    thanks

    hi Evan,
    not sure,
    iPod firmware is legally the property of Apple, however if you give them credit that your using their code, then i don't think it will be a problem.
    DO NOT SELL IT!
    as this is a violation of Apple's software liscence agrement.
    regards,
    Pete.

  • Can I use Adobe Creative Cload at the same time on two computers and is this legal ?

    Look at the title

  • IS THIS LEGAL ? I HAVE SERIOUS DOUBTS !

    I have just seen an advert for the Full Retail FCE 4 from a POWER SELLER on eBay.
    The price is £50 as opposed to £129 normally.
    This is the explanation he gives for the low price:-
    "In this auction we have another great deal for the professioanl video editing suite of Apple Final Cut Express 4. We have aquired some serial codes and a DVD master disc for this software. Each purchase will be supplied with a BURNT DISC of the original master and their own unique serial for installation and registration.
    We must stress that each serial code can only be used once otherwise a breach of copyright has been made."
    I have never heard this talk about "acquiring serial codes" before and am sure it must be illegal but can't be absolutely certain.
    Any ideas ?

    Further info:-
    This business also sells Mac computers amongst many other things and claims that the FCE 4 and other software it sells is on a "RETAIL BULK LICENSE".
    Put simply it sounds as though they are buying Bulk Licenses so that they can install these applications as and when necessary on the computers they sell using their MASTER DISC.
    Sometimes they buy more Bulk Licenses than they require and sell them off in this way.
    It almost sounds plausible but I have serious misgivings.
    The company, apart from trading elsewhere, has been a Power Seller on eBay for the past 4 years, so you would imagine that if they were dodgy, they would have been spotted by now.

  • Is this legal? if(a==true && b==true)

    Is it legal to use two if-commands between the same parenthesis?
    Example:
    is the following code ok?
    if(a==true && b==true)
    }

    Here comes a little more code...
    I hope it can help you guys.
    The problem is that the program never reaches "access granted", even though both if(checkpassword(user, password) and if(onetime) separatly reaches "access granted".
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
         if(e.getSource() == klarknapp)
              user = name.getText();
              name.selectAll();
              password = date.getText();
              date.selectAll();
              if((checkpassword(user, password)) && (onetime))
              System.out.println("Access granted");
         }
