I received an email supposedly from Apple about an battery recall for Powerbook G4s. My battery is on the list. But when I go through the Apple site, I can't seem to find the place to complete the recall claim form. I have pasted the email i received. Is it legit and should I use the link in the email to register for a replacement? Thanks. Here's the email I received;
Important Safety Recall
Dear Apple Customer:
Apple has determined that certain lithium-ion rechargeable batteries containing cells manufactured by Sony Corporation of Japan pose a safety risk that may result in overheating. The affected batteries were sold worldwide, in systems and separately, from October 2003 through August 2006 for use with the following computers: 12-inch iBook G4, 12-inch PowerBook G4, 15-inch PowerBook G4.
Apple is voluntarily recalling the affected batteries and has initiated a worldwide exchange program to provide you with a new replacement battery, free of charge. This program is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and other international safety authorities.
Issue: The affected batteries could overheat, posing a fire hazard. Apple received nine confirmed reports in the United States of these batteries overheating. Apple urges you to stop using your battery and to order a replacement battery immediately. After removing the recalled battery from the iBook or PowerBook, you should plug in the AC adapter to power the computer until a replacement battery arrives.
Product: Please use the chart below to identify the battery model and serial numbers that apply to your iBook or PowerBook. If the first 5 digits of your battery's 12-digit serial number fall within the noted ranges, please order a replacement battery immediately. To view the model and serial numbers labeled on the bottom of the battery, you must remove the battery from the computer. The battery serial number is printed in black or dark gray lettering beneath a barcode.
No other Apple notebook computers are affected by this recall.

Note: If your battery's serial number does not match any of the ranges listed above, you do not have to exchange your battery.
What to do: To begin the battery exchange process, go to the Apple website at http://support.apple.com/batteryprogram. You will be asked for the serial number of your computer, the serial number of your battery, and a ship-to address. After serial number verification, a new battery will be shipped to you free of charge. You may exchange up to three batteries through the website. When you receive the replacement battery, please use the same shipping packaging and the included prepaid shipping label to return the recalled battery to Apple for proper disposal. If you do not have access to the website listed above, you can call Apple at 800-275-2273 between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., central standard time, seven days a week, for further assistance.
Thank you for your cooperation with this exchange program.

I received an alert supposedly from Safari about 2 viruses which should be removed and was given a phone number to call.  Is this legitimate?

No. Do not phone them. You will find them trying to sell you expensive and useless (and probably dangerous) virus removal software. There are no viruses in the wild (i.e. outside laboratories) affecting Macs.

  • Got a Lenovo G50-70 computer running windows 8.1. Got a pop up says Adobe Air needs to be updated asks when do you want to update. Is this legitimate? I'm worried about viruses, worms. thanks.

The popup says An Adobe AIR update is ready to be installed.
I'm not sure it's really a message from Adobe.
I may not have any need to use AIR if it was installed on my computer by Lenovo or Windows 8.1.
My last computer had a popup that was, I think, a worm which told me I needed to update Flash Player Pro.
So, I'm nervous now about popup messages. I wish all legitimate programs could have options to Automatically install updates.
Can someone tell me if the popup sounds legitimate? Some programs give you a third option of No Thanks but this one just has a box to click for Update Now and a box for Update Later.
    Thanks.

Shouldn't be a problem.  Just like Windows Update, Adobe AIR needs to update itself periodically.  Just click Update Now to update to the latest version.

  • HT202234 Suspicious spyware alert telling me to call (877)6901356 is this legitimate? (supposedly from safari)

The other day I clicked on a seemingly innocuous page, it was the first option when I typed in something researching for my history paper (it was something to do with slavery in brazil). Anyhow an alert came up saying spyware may be active on my computer and my personal details are in danger etc and sited my IP address.
It told me to phone (877)6901256 and it would not close, I ended up having to restart my computer to get rid of the alert. I then googled the number and found nothing about it. Has anyone else had this before or can anyone shed any light on whether this is some sort of scam or whether it is a legitimate message from safari that there may be some malicious spyware active on my computer?
    Any help much appreciated.

This is malware scam. Do not click on any links or call any telephone numbers. If they persist:

The site is being very poorly managed. First the timer went erratic. Then the site showed that it was under maintenance. In the morning today, there was a contest (open at that time) of sorts where investigation was to be done using cryptic photos. Now it says the investigation will open soon. • Suddenly, holidays are being removed and/or added to iCal UK & US Calendars.  Is this legitimate?

Over the past 24 hours, my husband and I have noticed changes in the UK holiday calendar and the US holiday calendar on iCal.  Veteran's Day was dropped from UK calendar on Sunday, November 11th.  Diwali was added last night on November 13th on both the UK and US calendars.  Islamic New Year is now added this morning on the US calendar on November 15th. The holidays are correct and we have no problems with them being there. It is just the sudden changes that alarm us.
Are these legitimate changes or is someone hacking into the program and making changes on their own?

I agree with Betty - I asked to have US Holiday's added to my calendar.  Diwali is definately not a US Holiday.  Neither is Islamic New Year and who knows what else has been added.  There should be an ability to add additional calendars if wanted - such as India or Islamic Holiday's.  At a minimum, allow us the ability to delete from our calendars - currently you get the following error "You can’t change events in the "US Holidays" calendar."

  • I am reading about this conversion from an AOL username to a new Apple ID. Is this legitimate and will I lose access to purchases?

is this conversion from an AOL username to a new Apple ID legit? Will I lose access to purchases?

    Hi Kellyezvous,
Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
The conversion from AOL Username to Apple ID is legit, and you will not lose access to your iTunes Store purchases as a result of this change.
For more information, see this Apple Support page:
Convert your AOL Username to an Apple ID - Apple Support
You must convert your AOL Username to an Apple ID to maintain access to the stores and to content you purchased previously.
Apple can't provide support for AOL Username accounts that aren't converted by March 31, 2015. The conversion process applies only to AOL Usernames. You don't need to convert an Apple ID that ends in @aol.com. Also, this transition doesn't affect any AOL services that you use with your AOL Username.
    Cheers,
    Jeremy
