Hi Hun
Thank you so much for your advice. And yes it worked out perfectly i am so happy with it, it is a fabulous machine, i love apple products that are very impressive with regards to technology and keeping out the viruses that all other computers can get.
I told my husband that he should be lucky and he laughed lol, yes he loves it too.  When we pay for something here we are very protected even if its a private sale, even better when through paypal, which is a good thing.  The trading standards here are very strict and have to pass all sorts and if no its thrown out plus the banks give us protection when we buy something too, if its not what it should be we are reimbursed and the seller has to pay the bank then, so yes we are very lucky.
I agree this community is fabulous, plus i am very happy also as i was able to "pay it forward" too i answered somebody's question that i knew the answer to i was so chuffed to bits hehe.
Du to my disabilities i have to spend lots of time in hospital and when at home i spend most the time on the bed due to my spinal injury, from hit and run, so robert bought me the iPad 2 when it girst came out and i have love it all the time, still do but wanted to be able to do lots more so we decided to buy another macbook and so glad i found this one, whether i have to lie down or sit on the couch even for short periods i have the macbook on a lap try, has polystyrene balls in then a hard tray attached to it so the macbook is ver on anything soft, so it is very protected.
Well sweet thank you so much for all your help, and no doubt i will have to call on you again, i will click the follow button for you and may have to bug you again lol. so no doubt speak soon.
Take real good care
Best regards

  • Is the MacBook Pro 13in a good for a main computer

I'm in high school and looking into getting a Mac for the first time. I have a of desktop but want a laptop now. I use it for web browsing, YouTube, watching movies, playing games (minecraft), checking emails/social networks and stuff like that. I would play minecraft on regular settings but lower settings would still be ok. Other than minecraft I wouldn't  be playing any other big games like COD or stuff like that. I'm wondering if the the 13in model would be good for all that. I do like the size of the 13 a little more too. I would get the 15in but I feel like I'm getting more than I need for a lot more money. Also, this computer needs to last me quite awhile. Around 8 years at least.

If you plan on gaming yes, however between the faster and the larger screen,...since youre talking about basic gaming, the 15" would be the preferable choice unless cost isnt an issue.
8 years eh?  it will last that long, under ideal conditions. Most laptops regardless of make average 5 years or so before becoming a bit too dated.
That being said I have several laptops over 12 years old still running fine.

    yes.
"For instance If you have a MacBook (13-inch Late 2009) that normally uses a 60W adapter, you can also use an 85W adapter with that computer. You would not use a 45W adapter with that computer; it would not provide enough power for that MacBook. Using an adapter of higher wattage than the adapter that came with the computer will not cause the computer to charge more quickly or otherwise operate any differently than using the adapter that came with the computer. To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
and select the Library that you moved.  That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
Your first option didn't work because you imported one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
Your second option didn't work because you simply referenced her library on the old machine.

If you still have the old computer and it is a MAC, the Lightroom 5 serial numbers are in a text file.

That machine will handle your Photoshop stuff just fine, but it's not what you want for fast turnover in FCP.

I let Firefox sit on my desktop for about five minutes, and it finall allowed me to use it. That is EXTREEEMELY slow. What is the problem?

I am planning on buying a new MacBook Pro later this year, but for the meantime I'm not sure if I should buy a new power adaptor, or if this is a problem with my MacBook Pro. Also does anyone know where I can buy a battery in the UK for 1st Gen MacBook Pro.

OWC has batteries for 1,1 generation MacBook Pros and they ship internationally - http://eshop.macsales.com/.
Your best bet for a power adapter is to get one from Apple. Third-party adapters just don't seem to be reliable (or safe). You can also buy a replacement battery directly from Apple, of course, but they're a bit more expensive.
    Good luck,

  • I can not sync my phone with this Macbook Pro

I had a nasty suprise I paid out over £1500.00 to be told that I can not sync my phone with this Macbook Pro.
the reason for buying a Mac is that the windows 7 machine is in little bits so how do I sync that.  there is no music on this Mac pro and if I try to sync my phone it wants to wipe my phone That is Pants!
    <Re-Titled by Host>

    FTFY (for readability):
"I had a nasty surprise, when after having paid out over £1500.00, I learned that I am unable to sync my phone (unidentified model) with my new MacBook Pro (unidentified model).
The reason I bought the Mac was due to the fact that my former computer, a Windows 7 machine, has been damaged beyond repair.
There is no music currently loaded onto my new Mac, and when I try to sync the data on my Mac to my phone (unidentified model) I am prompted with a warning that my phone data will be wiped clean. This is not good!"
Okay, so I'm just being a little cheeky here - no offense intended.
Details are always best when seeking assistance, however. Try not to make others do the work for you. Take the time to do it yourself.
What model of Mac do you have?
What version of OSX are you using?
What version of iTunes are you using for syncing purposes?
What model of phone are you using and what software version is installed on it?
Try to better articulate the steps you are performing and the warnings that you are encountering.
    Best of luck.

  • Macbook Pro threads - The good and the bad

For many weeks I waivered on if I should sell my barley 2 year old G5 now and just jump on the Intel Dual core bandwagon. I finally put the word out to all my Mac buddies that my G5 was for sale and I ordered my MBP 17 on May 9th. Days went by. My order sat in the Order Processing que for about a week. Then it sat in the Sent to Manufacturing que for another 4 days. Over the 4 days I began to obsess with all the Mac fanatic websites reading one bad thread after another all talking about how bad the noise was and the heat. many of those thread were right here on apple.com.
It drove me nuts thinking that I just bought somthing thats riddled with problems. I called Apple to find out what the delay was about. They said my order was on hold due to the fact that they now offer glossy displays and were probably wondering if I wanted mine to come with the glossy screen. I was bit annoyed because they never reached out to ask me that. I had to come to them. In a moment of feeling that I should have just waited, I canceled my order on May 19th. Based on all the bad crap I read I felt good about putting it off a little longer.
A good friend of mine bought his MBP 15 on the day it was announced. I went to go see him the yesterday. He had to send his back once for the recall but over all he loves it. The firmware update drop the temprature to a noteable difference. We used it for a while and I heard no odd noise or moo-ing. The machine was rock solid. apps were lauching wicked quick. He was installing games and ripping Movies to DVD. The hour we used it was a total blast and made me think " What the heck was I worried about?"
I'm over my obsession with my worries and will be ordering a MBP 15 in another week or so. I wanted to share this story with you guys because I heard very few good stories about the MBP 15 and 17. Apple released the firmware update in response to the many people that returned there MBP. In my experience Apple has always aimed to give us the Mac community the ultimate buying experience. Even if there are a few bumps in the road, I'm confident apple will continue to pave the way of fixing them.
I will post again after I have my MBP for a few days.

Users feel the pain of being early adopters, thankfully Apple gives hope
Apple has been doing quite well lately, especially when it comes to drumming up support for new products. It's MacBook Pro is no exception to the rule -- but rightly so. The popular notebook has been receiving praise from various publications and orders have been flying.
Despite its popularity as a "must have" Apple product, the MacBook Pro is encountering a lot of issues. Many users are reporting similar issues to the ones I pointed out. To recap from my blog:
AirPort does not automatically rejoin a preferred network after waking up from sleep mode. This does not happen with my PowerBook. Settings are the same.
AirPort would drop down to nearly 1 block randomly once in a while. This also does not happen with my PowerBook.
At the lowest screen brightness setting (one block), the LCD's backlight flickers noticeably. This is pretty annoying.
Heat is a big issue. The MacBook Pro gets so hot that I cannot place it on my lap if I'm wearing shorts. And even if I am wearing pants (instead of shorts), it's still very uncomfortable. Using the AC power, the palm rest area becomes very warm, and the area above the F keys is very hot. I do not notice this with the PowerBook.
We have confirmed with several MacBook Pro owners that these problems do in fact exist, and are not just isolated issues. While being at the forefront of technology is great, early adopters often find themselves with products that have shipped with a few quirks yet to be addressed.
I spoke with Apple over the weekend, and to my surprise, some of the issues are well known. Known well enough in fact, that Appe has already started addressing these issues in updated MacBook Pros. According to Apple, it has begun replacing the mainboard inside its MacBook Pros with a new revision.
It calls the udpated product "revision D", which is indentifiable by product serial number.
Serial numbers starting with W8611: revision D Serial numbers starting with W8610: revision C Apple said that revision D MacBook Pros have many issues addressed and improvements made, including fixes to the above mentioned issues. We were also able to get a hold of a MacBook Pro that just arrived during the week with a serial number starting with W8612, which did not exhibit any of the above issues. Many users are also reporting that their MacBook Pros become extremely hot to handle, especially in the area above the F keys and underneath the notebook itself. In fact, my MacBook Pro gets so hot that placing it in your hands is almost unbearable, and leaving it on a bare lap is next to impossible. According to Apple, the MacBook Pro should never become hot to the point of being uncomfortable. The representative I spoke to said "that should not happen. If it is, bring back your MacBook Pro and we'll give you an updated version."
Besides the problems that we are seeing, other users are also reporting that their MacBook Pros create a very uncomfortable whining noise, which is fixed by launching a widget or by using PhotoBooth -- oddly enough this solves the problem until the next reboot.
Those who are having issues with their MacBook Pros should first check for the identifying serial number, and then contact Apple to address the issue.

  • Is there anyway i can get Microsoft Office on this MacBook Pro i just purchased? 13.3" MB PRO/2.6/8GB/256FLASH/IRIS/RTN

is there anyway i can get Microsoft Office on this MacBook Pro i just purchased? 13.3" MB PRO/2.6/8GB/256FLASH/IRIS/RTN

I'm not entirely sure I understand the question -- but the usual way would be to buy and download either directly from Microsoft or a Microsoft retailer. http://www.microsoft.com/mac
One thing to consider is that it looks likely that Microsoft will finally update Office for Mac 2011 sometime next year. That may make the Office 365 option where you pay by the month/year something to consider (if you wouldn't otherwise) at least until the update is issued.
Another option is http://www.libreoffice.org which is free, very capable, and quite compatible with Microsoft Office files. It's not perfect but it's good and may do the job depending on your needs.

I cannot connect to my outgoing email server on my macBook pro, yet I can, for the same email account on my iPad. Also I can send emails from the other email account I have on my MacBook...really confused can anyone help?

Sometimes deleting the account and then re-creating it can solve this issue
Write down all the information in accounts before doing this
Highlight the account on the left and click the minus button
Then click the plus button to add the new account and follow the prompts

  • How to download macbook pro (mid 2010) drivers for windows 7, without the included DVD (lost) ?

    Hello everyone,
I am facing a problem with bootcamp on my Macbook pro 15" (Mid 2010, running Mos OS 10.6.6).
I have successfully installed windows 7 via Bootcamp, but I lost the Drivers DVD furnished by Apple.
I tried to download these using Bootcamp (v3.0.4), but bootcamp won't let me save it, i get this error :
"the windows support software could not be saved to the selected folder"
An Apple support article has been made for this problem ( http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3648 ), but it doesn't solve the problem in my case because I lost the furnished DVD.
So here I am, struck on this drivers issue...
    So, my question is :
How to download macbook pro (mid 2010) drivers for windows 7, without the included DVD (lost) ?
Thank you for your help !
    Regards

Aw, and I forgot, being in Thailand, they do not sell the installation DVD.

  • I am so new to Mac. I just bought this Macbook Pro. No Disks or anything. I need to completely wipe and reinstall. Is there anyplace I can download the disks to burn to dvd to do a complete wipe and reinstall?  I'm running 10.6.8. Or maybe a later version

I guess you can see how new i am to this, I typed my whole question in the subject. Any way, i bought this macbook pro used, no disks, need to do a complete wipe and reinstall. is there anywhere i can download the install disks to burn to dvd? Or buy either one, or maybe even a later version? Im running 10.6.8 currently.  Thanks in Advance! Terry

First determine what system you really have.
Apple menu -> About This Mac.
If it is 10.7, you don't need installer discs, because there is a recovery partition:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4848
If indeed it is 10.6.something then you'll want to call AppleCare for the discs.
    http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html
If they determine the machine is older than 10.6's initial release (August 28, 2009), you'll want to purchase 10.6 retail, and/or 10.7 retail from the Apple Store.
    Regardless, backup your data first*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
And read the benefits of both 10.6 and 10.7:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2455
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2465
and determine which can run on your machine, and decide which you want to have.
