Is this major?! Hardware test error code 4M0T/4/40000002:HDD-0

I ran a thorough hardware test on my 2010 iMac11,3 yesterday and came up with this error code. I then used disk utility to try to repair the disk and ran another thorough hardware test and the same code appeared. Does anyone know what this error code means? and whether I should get it fixed ASAP?
I'm asking since this is my work computer and I really need to have it around and can't risk having repairs take a week or so to get this error fixed. If this is major I'll probably move all my work files onto my MBP n try to work on them there but that would be my last resort.
Any help would be much appreciated!! Thanks!

Thanks for the info Dave and Pondini.
iStatPro says my hard drive fan is not spinning at all...that can't be good..I guess i'll have to bring this baby in for some servicing.
Watch the temp of the HD; I don't know what the max should be, but be careful not to damage it by letting it get too hot.

Thanks - Even though I'm years out of warranty I got chat help from Apple (I said they should help me since the codes aren't published.)  We covered three different questions, and although I didn't get a specific decoding of the error code, I got confirmation of what other comments here imply - it might have helped that I indicated I'd already been here - and useful links to how to do back ups, including to CD(s). (I don't have a lot of data on this computer yet)
Now I need to figure out how to decide how hot-to-the-touch is "too hot" for the metal frame at the top of the iMac to decide whether I'm getting adequate fan performance or insufficient.  While chatting I initially reported it was cool at the bottom and warm at the top.  Apple hadn't asked, but their response prompted me to feel it again, and I'd say the top was hot, not warm - I updated but Apple didn't comment further except to conclude after addressing the other questions that I should take it in for further assessment - don't really want to bother with that.

  • After installing a new hard drive the fan is very noisy. Hardware test error code 4MOT/1/40000003: HDD-1417

I've carried out all the trouble shooting procedures. The fan is running @ 3899rpm and the temp is 26 deg celsius. (I'm assuming the sensor is working OK...it may not be) A SMART test was OK, can anyone please identify the code and suggest a solution.
    Thanks

There are temperature sensor on the Apple installed hard drives. Did you reattach this to the new drive? If so how well / badly was it stuck on? Was the sensor damaged during the install of the new drive?
The fact the fans are running @3899rpm shows something is not quite right.
Is it possible the new drive is faulty? See here:

Trying to track down fast running fan that will not reset and this error came up.

only apple techncians have access to what those codes mean.  It is sensor related, but as it is a hardware problem, you need to bring it into an Apple store or AASP to have it correctly diagnosed and fixed.

Can anyone tell me what apple hardware test error code apple hardware 4MOT/4/40000002: Exhaust-1153 or 1209 means? I am running a MacBook Pro

The motor on the exhaust fan has failed or is failing.

  • Error code 4M0T/4/40000002: Left side -0

My computer screen suddenly wigged out while I was in the middle of surfing the web.  When I restarted it, everything seemed normal until it wigged out again a few seconds after rebooting.  Now When I start my computer the screen just remains gray.  I ran a system hardware test and it came back with the error code: 4M0T/4/40000002: Leftside - 0 .  Does anyone know what this means?

Apple doesn't publish a translator for the codes but, based on what had been posted elsewhere, I'd say your left side cooling fan motor is failing or has failed. The video artifacts are probably due to overheating of the graphics chipset. If the gfx chipset fails, it means an expensive logic board replacement.
To prevent any damage from excess heat, I recommend that you discontinue using the computer until you can get Apple to check it.

  • Anyone Know what this apple hardware test error means?

Hi I've been experiencing some problems with my mac it gets to hot fans nerver go up not even with smc fan control installed and some times it freezes so i decided to run the apple hardware test that comes with the machine and during the memory part it showed me this error code

Does any one know what this means or have any idea with what part of the machine it can be related to
    Thanks hope sombody answers

If I had a hardware error detected by Apple Hardware Test (which in my experience misses the minor things) then I would be raising a case with AppleCare right away.

You shouldn't have to deal with hardware failures on a Mac this young.

  • MBA hardware test error code: 4MEM/1/40000000:0x79flae98. Can anybody tell me what this means and how to fix the problem if ever possible? Thanks!

As mentioned in the subject line: my Mid 2009 MBA freezes frequently. The hardware test provides the error code.
It sounds like a failed RAM but it still works when booted.
Can anybody tell me what was wrong with this MBA and what else can I do to save it?
    Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
That's a RAM issue. If you want, you can still use your Mac until it gets damaged, but that message tells something bad with your RAM, and what it's worse, the RAM in the MacBook Air is soldered onto the logic board, so if you take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller to get it repaired, the whole logic board will have to be replaced, making this repair so expensive

  • What do Apple Hardware Test Error Codes indicate?

I recently installed new 1GB memory modules in both slots. When running the Apple Hardware Test, I got the following error code:
    post/0/2048 S0DIMM0/J20STANDARD
Does anybody knows what this means? Up in the Test Results Box, it said Memory passed.
Do I have a problem or not?

I've had little luck finding a compilation of those AHT codes and their meaning. In your case, "post" is probably "power-on self test," the routine that all Macs run at startup to check for problems.
2048 is the total RAM qty in MB.
J20STANDARD is the logical name of one of the RAM slots.
Run System Profiler and see what it shows for when you select "Memory" from the left-hand pane. On my 1Ghz 17" PowerBook, Profiler shows one slot as J20STANDARD and the other as J23REVERSED and it runs fine. Profiler will tell you if the modules are matched for speed and CAS latency.

  • What does Apple Hardware Test error code 4MEM/1/40000000:OX3bb6b190 mean?

Mozilla kept crashing so I did the Apple Hardware Test and got error code 4MEM/1/40000000:OX3bb6b190. I reinstalled MacOs 10.4.4 (after saving the important stuff to disk of course) and it took about 10 tries to get the 2 disks installed. After the installation, I tried to update to 10.4.5, and when I restarted, the screen was blank. The only disk the computer will start with now is the No. 1 installation disk. What can I do?

    Hi
A MEM error code generally indicates a faulty RAM Module. In my experience most RAM manufacturers offer at least a 5 year warranty of their RAM products. Some warranties are for 10 years. Sometimes reseating (taking it out and putting it back in again - properly) the Module will 'cure' the problem. Run AHT afterwards if you try this option first.
If you can remove the offending module and still have enough RAM to be able to do what you need to do then do so.
If not take it to your nearest Apple Repair Specialist who should fix it for you or replace the faulty module yourself and deal with the RAM manufacturer directly.
Judging by the footer to your post you don't seem to have had much luck with this model have you?

  • G5 Full Speed Fans/ The Apple Hardware Tests Error Code

Since yesterday My DP1.8 G5's fans are max speed like jet engine. I tried PMU resets , Disk warrior. But nothing helps. The Apple Hardware Test gave me error code of "post/192/0" . Do you guys know what does this error code mean?
    Thank you.

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
I think thast the error is related to the "Power On Self Test", or POST. When you start the machine, are there any beeps, or power button LED flashes? If there is a POST error at startup, the power LED would flash in cadence with the beeps..
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
Do you have any new RAM installed?

  • Apple Hardware Test Error Code

    Hi,
I've recently tested my machine using the Apple Hardware Test, and received the following error code:
    4MHD/2/4000 0004: 0x3ca74c90
Has anyone perhaps encountered this same code before perhaps & could they perhaps shed some more light on it?
Funny thing is, apart from that, my iMac is working perfectly. ( Although I am backing up every day now - just in case )
    Intel iMac 20 inch   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1GB RAM, 250 GB HDD, 802.11g, bluetooth,etc

When your data backup is finished, call AppleCare and ask the question. You may need to get the machine repaired.

  • Mac Book Hardware Test Error Codes?

After running the HW test utility on my Mac Book it registered this error - 4HDD/11/40000004:SATA(0.0) - what does it mean? Are the error code listed anywhere?

Hi CBJR: That error code indicates a problem with your hard drive or the interface for the hard drive. Sounds like it's time for a visit to an Apple store to have them look at it.

  • Apple Hardware Test Error Code     " 2STH/1/2:CPU A AD7417AD1 "

    Hi All,
I have a G5 2.5 GHz dual processer that seems to work fine after 14 months. But when I run the Apple Hardware Test, I get the error message listed in my subject above. I talked to Apple and took the machine in for service. Servicer said get the latest upgrade of the AHD and try it instead of one that came with my machine. After some work (a good bit), I got Apple to send me the upgrade and when I run it, I still get the same error code! Does anyone have any suggestions? I could sure use them. Thanks,

  • Hardware test Alert Code: "4MOT/4/40000003:HDD-1229" on 2011 27'' i7 iMac. HELP

    Hello,
last week I found out that some files on my mac were missing so I desided to do an hardware test.
when the test finished I got the following alert:
    "4MOT/4/40000003:HDD-1229"
    What does it mean?
    Thank you,
    Aviad

The hard disk fan sensor is damaged. Make a backup of your files and take the computer to an Apple Store or reseller to have your hard disk replaced.
It's possible that Apple reinstalls the Mac OS X version you have onto the new hard disk, so you just have to make a Time Machine backup and restore it during the initial setup of your computer. Also, if Apple installs a blank hard drive, you can use Internet Recovery to restore your Time Machine backup > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718

Gday. I have a MBP 2.4GHz 2GB. Will adding another 2GB or RAM reduce the -10011 Errors of System overload? They are more CPU errors as I'm aware? Also, what about a faster hard drive, will that increase Logic's performance? Cheers.
