Is this mean that my Apple TV is broken?
Hi All,
I have an 160 GB Apple TV connected to an Ethernet network, and the PC I am trying to transfer my content from is connected to the same network. It is taking a ridiculous amount of time for the content to sync. Music alone, which is 304 songs and 1.6 GB, was running for about 4 hours, and was approximately half way done by the time I went to bed. In the morning, the transfer had completed.
I am now transferring TV shows, and the first show has been transferring for about 4 hours, and the progress bar is still at about one percent (an estimation).
Obviously I have a problem The network seem to be working fine, as I have good internet speeds, and other transfers, through the same switch are fine. I have reset the Apple TV, restored factory settings and reinstalled iTunes. None of the things have helped. Apple TV diagnostics reported everything as okay too.
I am concerned that maybe the HD in the ATV is going bad. What do you think? Any suggestions, thoughts or troubleshooting tips are welcome!
Thanks.
Do you use a proxy server ?

Hi Apple Team, I would like to change the iCloud account on my iPhone, however it says I must 'delete the account' before doing so? Does this mean that I delete the entire existing account, or just delete it from my phone specifically?
From the iPhone only.

i have an ipad mini, i have bought them for my kids too.
how can i get them seperate profiles so they can use or play their own apps and not sync with my account.
i have tried to create seperate apple ids but this wont let me due to their ages.
i have turned on and off home sgaring but this made no change.
any ideas??Apple has a reptutaion of maintaining a high level of privacy and security. This means that accounts are not meant to be shared, though they can be, and defintitely not merged.
That does not come without a price however.
I completely understand that the kids would want their own profiles when playing games, but app developers are required to follow apple's protocols in order to distribute their apps via apples app store and be used on their products.
I'm going to go out on limb here and say the apple has chosen to put the job of parenting in the hands of parents.
What I do know is that as the kids get older and everybody gets their own devices and accounts, it will be a lot easier and lot less confusing when everyone has their own apple id. (especially when they start having their own contacts, calendar events and everyone in the home is syncing to icloud)

I have recently had my MacBook Pro and iPad stolen so I have bought a new iPad, since syncing to my existing Apple ID account I keep getting another Apple ID popping up asking for the password. Does this mean that the owner of this appe ID have my stuff?
You should change your AppleID password NOW. And if it says it was registered under another AppleID, the thief has probably done it.

My wife and I both have MacBooks (I have MacBook Pro and she has Air) and both are associated with my apple ID since I bought them. However, this means that Safari is linked for both her and I as well as our contacts etc. Can I still use mine ID for apps for her but associate hers with her own ID that I have yet to make?
Well with the MS Hotmail/Outlook.com account that is hard. But she should be able to link all of it to the iCloud system using her Apple ID.
I suggest you do a Google search for "link contacts, Calendars, iMessage with iCloud".
For some stupid reason MS has limited the syncing/linking of only emails and Notes with the Hotmail/Live Mail/Outlook.com system.
They have not included any Exchange features for syncing all that info. That is unless you are using Outlook 2013 and that is only for Windows. -
I have received an email saying that my Apple ID has been reset. This wasn't by me!! Does this mean that someone has accessed my account. Tried phoning Apple but they keep sending me emails saying that they have tried but I haven't answered. My number is correct.
Are you sure they say the password has been changed or that *if* you want to change it, then go to a web site and do it there. If the latter, just ignore the email. If the former (and I'm assuming the email is regarding a changed password, but it could mean the security questions have been changed), then using a computer's browser, try logging into icloud.com. If you can do that using the old password, then it's not clear what the email means.

My mom updated her iPhone to iOS7, and now she has my contacts. Does this mean that she has access to all of my photos as well? How can she 'unlink' our phones? Or, is there anyway that I can get my stuff to disappear from her phone? We share iTunes account so I think we are both on the same iCloud.
Welcome to the Apple Community.
If you are using the same ID as a primary iCloud login, then yes she can see your photos in photostream if you have it enabled.
You can use the same ID for iTunes so you can share all your purchases, but you need different ID's for iCloud.
Unfortunately, the mess caused by sharing the ID, will need to be sorted manually, once you both have your own ID's. -
Since upgrading to Lion my address book no longer communicates with iTunes? This means that no new information is getting to my iPhone etc? Any ideas? Thanks

or maybe install Snow Leopard using the disc it came on with my Mac and just set it up from a Time Machine Backup on my external hard drive (since it works under SL)?
Did you install Lion on an empty partition, or did you upgrade Snow Leopard? If you upgraded, I'd not recommend erasing it, since your backups are apparently gone. It's doubtful Snow Leopard will recognize them.
It's not just backups on the drive either, there are other important things on there, so why won't they show?
Mixing Time Machine backups and other data is not a good idea. See #3 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions. It sounds like the whole disk is corrupted.
I just really don't understand how this happened. Could it not be an issue with WD because they haven't issued firmware to support Lion yet?
If this is a simple external HD, connected by USB or FireWire, no, unless you installed some of WD's software on it. That shouldn't prevent it from being seen at all, but anything's possible. -
I need to bulk upload images from iPhoto to Auctiva (auction software) that will then be posted to eBay; however Java was disabled on my computer some time ago due to "known issues." I have 10.5.8 so does this mean that I can't use Java? If not, then is there a workaround to be able to use the bulk uploader from Auctiva? As it stands now, I have to upload photos individually which is super time consuming.
You can re-enable it for special purposes, opposite of disabling it...
Disable Java in your Browser settings, not JavaScript.

I have 2 questions about the new Photos app for Mac (I'm running 10.10.3 on my MacBook Air 1.8GHz Intel Core i5 mid 2012)):
1.Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?
2. Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud? That would free 59GB off my Mac and that would be very good.1.Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?
You can, but I would wait, until you have have been working with Photos for some time and are sure, that everything migrated well. There may be hidden flaws in your library and teething problems with Photos. Don't be in a hurry to abandon iPhoto completely. You may need to go back, until bugs have been fixed. Th Photos Library does not duplicate the photos in your iPhoto Library. the media files are shared and do not need extra space: See: Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support
2. Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud? That would free 59GB off my Mac and that would be very good.
If you have enough iCloud storage. But Photos will still need space for local thumbnails on all devices.
See: Apple - OS X - Photos Preview
Fill your library, not your device.
iCloud Photo Library can help you make the most of the space on your Mac. When you choose “Optimize Mac Storage,” all your full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud in their original formats, with storage-saving versions kept on your Mac as space is needed. You can also optimize storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, so you can access more photos and videos than ever before. You get 5GB of free storage in iCloud — and as your library grows, you have the option to choose a plan for up to 1TB. -
Hi! I've just purchased an iPhone 5S but whenever I text people with iPhones it sends from my iCloud account. This means that my email comes up for other people not my name/number which is really frustrating! Does anyone know how to stop this?
Go into Settings>Messages>Send and Receive> Is your phone number checked there? If you do not want your email used, then tap on them and remove the checkmark. If there is no checkmark by your phone number, then turn iMessage off, perform a reset on the phone, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. Turn iMessage on. When it activates, check your settings again under Send and Receive and make sure the number is checked and the emails are not.

I have an Iphone 4, buy my software update says iOS 5.1.1. Doesn't this mean that I have an Iphone 4S?
iOS 5.1.1 supports
iPhone 4S
iPhone 4
iPhone 3GS
iPad 2
iPad
iPod touch (4th generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation)
So, you do not have to worry. You've still got iPhone 4 only. For more information regarding iOS 5.1.1 update visit this link http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1521 -
If my company email on my ipad blocks me from manually backing up to icloud, does this mean that icloud is being blocked from my ipad completely?
I'm not sure if they can completely block iCloud if you have your own Apple ID. I assume that they just don't want their data backed up to Apple's cloud.
But the more important point in this whole discussion is would the company be honked off at you for doing something on the iPad that they do not approve of. -

Do you see European LTE frequencies in the specs? If not then European 4G LTE is not supported. -
When I check the settings the wi-fi says it's not connected so I follow the symbol > and then the wi-fi says it's ON and I see my network name. Does this mean that I'm connected to my wi-fi or not? I'm also set up on a Network.
If it says you are not connected, then you are in fact not connected. The symptoms you described, for example, would appear if your router were working correctly but you entered an incorrect network (WPA or WPA2) password and therefore failed to sign on to your network.
You might try clicking the white arrow in the blue circle next to your network name and choosing "Forget this network". Then reset your iPhone by holding the home and on/off buttons together for about 10 seconds till the Apple logo appears. Then see what happens when your network appears.
