Brian,
Regrettably, I will have to agree with Harm in this case. Your system barely meets Adobe's stated minimum requirements for CS5.x for the CPU and RAM (well, 8GB is more than Adobe's stated minimum requirement) to begin with. And forget about using Premiere Pro on that system, especially since you have only a single hard drive. Premiere Pro requires a minimum of two separate hard drives in order to work properly (plus, the rest of the PC's specs are significantly below the "practical" minimum requirements to run Premiere Pro CS5.x). Using just one hard drive for absolutely everything (OS, media, output, previews, programs, cache and projects) will make even an extremely fast system relatively sluggish - not to mention that since your system's hard drive is more than half full, your system will likely perform hundreds if not thousands of times slower than a properly tuned fast system. Also, you did not state which graphics card you have on that system, especially since a not-well-supported card will slow down CS5.x MPE performance even more.
In other words, just because a system just meets Adobe's stated minimum requirements does not mean that it will run that program well at all.

  • Is this PowerBook Good enough for making music?

    Is this powerbook : PowerBook G4 17Inch
17-inch TFT widescreen display with 1680x1050 resolution
    1.67GHz PowerPC G4 processor
    2GB memory (DDR2)
    120GB 5400rpm hard drive
    Slot-load 8x SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVDRW/CD-RW)

The Latest or the last model of Powerbooks
Is it good enough for making music or editing few video clips?
Will Snow Leopard run on it?
Can i upgrade more ram in it ?

Yes, that Powerbook can be used to make music or edit video clips. When it was new, it was required at the North Carolina School of the Arts for their Film program, using Final Cut software. Having a more powerful Intel CPU would speed up the rendering and processing times, however, the 1.67Ghz Powerbook can certainly handle video editing.
I know people that have used Garageband on it to make music.
The last operating system you can run on it is OS X 10.5 Leopard, with the last release being 10.5.8.
It's RAM is maxed out at 2GB.
As long as you don't need newer software that requires an Intel processor and aren't going to rely on that as your system to access streaming video's on the internet, it should work for you.

  • This Computer Good Enough For My Editing Needs?

I will be getting a new computer for video editing.
I do gameplay recordings for various games on the PS4.
My other computer is geared for audio production mixing and mastering.
This one will be for recording(using game capture device and software) and editing the videos.
I do not use many effects, mainly some color corrections, and some time remapping using Twixtor, or stock functions.
I will be using Premiere Pro CS6
I record using the Elgato Game Capture HD60(H.264 encoding)

Also, do these specs/available slots allow for adding a Solid State Drive? Can't find info on available slots..

Must be based on the fact that the very best AMD based system, a FX8350 octo core, scores only 675 seconds in the benchmark, slower than about 85% of the Intel systems. Other AMD systems are even slower. Most Intel quad cores are much faster and even an average laptop with an Intel quad core CPU is about two times faster than the best AMD system. This AMD system is almost 7 times slower than the fastest single CPU Intel system and other AMD systems are around 10 times slower.
From the article linked to above:
As a general rule of thumb, AMD CPU's are not worth considering at all, since they suffer severely from the very limited and badly implemented support of SSE 4.x instructions, which are widely used in PR. That makes these processors very slow, even in the 8-core versions. You get what you pay for, and with AMD that holds very much. Even though Adobe claims AMD processors can be used, that is intended more to make PR look attractive, but it really means you can install the program on an AMD machine, however you can't edit effectively with such a CPU. Even the latest octo-core AMD's are significantly slower than middle-of-the-road Intel quad cores. If you have an AMD processor, do not expect to edit comfortably any codec more demanding than DV. All phone or action camera formats are way beyond what an AMD can handle.
Does not look like a bias, but a plain statement of easily checked facts.

  • Looking for help in making my computer good enough to play games

I bought a computer from Best Buy right after Christmas. It's a HPE-410y. I'm pretty happy with it in terms of speed and ease of use. I'm glad to be finally done with freaking Vista and blue screens of death.
Anyho, a buddy of mine wants me to play Bad Company 2 with him. I don't know much about the game other than its a shooter. However, I did read in the editoral review that the ATI 5570 my computer came with is weak. Also, 300Watt power supply needs to be upgraded as well? Do you think a graphics card/power supply upgrade is all I need? hmmm
I have glanced at the graphics cards at Best Buy when I've been up there, but not exactly sure what will work, what is good. Looking for any advice and help on what I should possible buy to get this computer good enough to play games.  I wanna do this maybe the end of next month. My budget is 450 bucks. I don't need to pay to have any upgrades I decide to get installed, my brother can help me do that. I just need help in what to buy.
    Thanks for any feedback.

Agreed that it's an above average computer. If you still want to do the upgrade:

Coming right at your budgeted $450.
If you like my post, or solution to your issue/question, go ahead and click on the little star by my name and/or accept the post as the Solution. It makes me happy.
I'm NOT an employee of Best Buy, or Geek Squad, though I did work as an Agent for a year 5 years ago. None of my posts are to be taken as the official stance that Best Buy will take on your situation. My advice is just that, advice.
Unfortunately, that's the bad luck of any electronic, there's going to be bad Apples... wait that's a horrible pun.

  • Will specs on an iMac 24in 2.8ghz be good enough for video prod-Mac Newbie?

Hi guys, I do pretty high end editing in Sony Vegas but wanted to move to Final Cut Pro and Mac workflow. I've been a life time windows user and have been thinking about taking the plunge for about a year now.
I finally just purchased an iMac 24inch. The related specs are the standard 2.8 ghz, 2 GB ram, and ATI radeon 256 mb. It's still in the box. On my way home I kept wondering about the specs especially since I'm new to Mac. On a windows, those specs might not be that great. Will this be good enough for workflow in FCP. I'm going to upgrade the memory in the near future.
I was concerned about the graphics card? Will I see slowness or stuttering while editing with a lot of footage, rendering, etc. Thanks so much! I want to take it out of the box so bad!

It'll be fine for DV and HDV...footage imported from tapeless systems like P2 or XDCAM EX.
The graphics card doesn't come into play much with editing...only certain filters really use the GFX card...otherwise it is not important.
It is limiting in that you are only able to use Firewire drives, and since the computer only has one firewire bus, you might run into issues capturing this footage from firewire cameras...the drive and the camera will be using one firewire bus. But I haven't had too many issues with that...daisy chaining works for most of us.

  • Integrated graphics (9400M) good enough for keynote?

I'm thinking about buying a new MBP 15 with only the 9400M card. Will this be good enough for keynote presentations (with some heavy graphics and embedded movies etc) hooked to an external projector?
(I have an 2006 MBP 15 which is dying (those pixelated horizontal lines) but that had discrete graphics Ati x1600 which had some problems with keynote transitions)
    Thanks!

It should be able to handle Keynote with no problem.
But since this particular applications performance seems to
be very important to you, why not just put a Keynote presentation of yours on
a CD or flash stick and take it into an Apple Store. They will gladly let you try your
file with their new Macbook Pro's. If there isn't an Apple Store near you then go to an authorized Apple reseller.
That is the only way to be totally sure.

Purchase a couple of these when they go on sale.
Start burning all the photos onto DVDs.
At least you'll have all your photos if your computer, time machine or any other backup you use goes bonkers.

  • Is This Good Enough To Run Logic?

    Hey all,
Just joined here, and I'm loving the amount of information on here, makes a very good read during lunch break
Right, here's my scenario, hopefully some of you seasoned Mac'ers can help me out with this one.
A friend of mine just told me a friend of theirs (blah blah) has a G4 PowerMac for sale, which is the one with two CPU's clocked at approximately 800MHz, and she's upgraded the RAM to 3GB. I'm not sure what OS version is on it, but it does already have Logic Pro 8 installed on it. Is it really good enough for speedy editing, or will I be waiting ages for it to convert and process stuff?
Thanks in advance, I appreciate all help given

Cas, you have the coolermaster extreme power. There has been an issue with some models of coolermaster Realpower PSUs.  I could re-state the reasons, but Bosskiller has addressed this several times.

The Cooler Master has been working just fine for more than a year with a ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus and an Intel Q6600. The Antec P450 works fine there too. So why should I believe you (no disrespect intended)? What is the specific grounding issue with the Cooler Master? Can you give me a URL to the issue at their support site?
    Thanks.

Wow are you serious..? Man that sucks...I hope I can get a return on it, damn.
EDIT: I spoke with there customer support line, they said they could RMA the power supply with a new revision that works with the board, I don't know what I'm going to do though.
Regardless if you get an updated model which has addressed the compatibility issue, you are better off with a single +12V rail PSU like the ones I suggested.

  • Please make this a good experiance for my first post on any board.  READ ME

Hi all. Well first off, let me start by saying that my whole life I've owned PC's. And I'm not hacker Elliet. But I've gotten to know them pretty well. All the way from Windows 3.1 that came out a long time ago (more than 10 years ago)
So after a while of hearing about MAC's I decided to start small and get an iPod (since they are so popular here in NYC) and see what apple was about. Well I really saw that Apple had a great product and started asking about their computers. And did plenty of research. And before the new Intel Macs came out, I was going to get a powerbook. But I had a feeling a new laptop was coming out and waited a lil while and sure enough. The Macbook Pro came out. So I went out and did all my research (as to this being the first real purchase of a Apple product and knew about the possible implications of a new first gen Intel chip in a apple product litterally making history) I knew I might become a new beta tester.
So I started looking on these boards and did 2 weeks worth of hard research to see if the Mac Book Pro (MBP) was for me. And after all the problems i saw (ex: The whine, Right speaker distortion, heat coming from it, white line at bottom of screen, etc) I never saw or read anything about AOL connectivity problems. And I know, I know... alot of you are probably going to gripe and complain about AOL sucking and yada yada yada, but please. Cut me some slack. I actually like AOL. I got on it back in 92 when it came out, and really enjoyed it. And have been on it since. I like chatting on there, and so forth. And I hope you help with my problem instead of telling me to go get "a real ISP" I do have a real ISP, but I like my AOL too.
    So now to my problem....
I have a Sony Viao 1.8ghz PC with 512 ram, 80 gig hard drive, 10/100 ethernet port. Connected to a Belkin Router (more info below on specs of router) connected to Opt Online Broadband Cable internet with VoIP. I use my macbook pro on the wireless network at my home.
I got a mac book pro 1.83 ghz running 512 ram on Tiger OSX 10.4.6 I thought that I would wait till a connectivity patch (which I thought would have been 10.4.6) fix the airport problems came out till I posted something. But now that I've tried everything, I'm hoping you open this thread and help me and possibly someone else out there as well. I just d/l'd and installed the 10.4.6 update last night and it did'nt help. So here's more info on my specs. I have a belkin router wireless G 2.4 ghz 54mbs router and I have configured the router with it's firewall, wap2 encryption (as it's the only selection the router has that is available that matches what airport comes with in encryption) I hid my network, and have tried to upgrade the firmware on the router.
Now Here's the real problem. I can connect to AOL on my MBP when I connect the actual ethernet cable to the MBP's Ethernet port (after I have let the cable modem do a hard reset to configure itself to a mac) I can connect to AOL. But when I disconnect the cable and return it to it's normal config, I can't connect to AOL. I can connect to the internet via safari, and firefox, and even AOL's IM on iChat. I can use Itunes all kinds of things. I can even play warcraft 3 wirelessly on battlenet. But connecting to AOL is a pain in the @$$. It's the only proggy I have that won't allow it to connect. I keep getting the error message "Your AOL connection ended because the AOL host was unable to start a new session. Please try to sign on again." Of course All i see for a while is the spinning black and white circle. And it goes through step 1 and 2, goes straight to 6. Then it goes blank, and BAM! That message pops up. And what's so frustrating is that I've tried every possible configuration on AOL, my router and even system preferences, for it to let connect. I even went into system preferences on the mac and went down the the Internet & Network "Sharing" icon and tried 100 possible combinations on that in the services tab, and firewall tab. I've turned them on, off, tried to make exceptions ETC. And no matter how much I play with the personal file sharing and windows sharing advanced settings and sigh every possible combination to make AOL connect via wirelessly. And nothing. I then even tried to fix the connection under AOL in setup. I've gone through and selected TCP Script, Airport Script. Cable Script, And practically every script I can think of. And nothing. I even went on to AOL and downloaded thier alleged fix to wireless accessing AOL. And nothing. I've been searching all over google, AOL's website, and all over these discussion boards and no mention of anyone even having the same problem. But please, someone out there with their infinit knowledge of how Macs run and having more experience than me, Please make this a good experiance for my first post on any board anywhere reguarding a mac. A MBP at that too.
An update to this, But amazingly enough, I actually got it to connect to AOL wirelessly for the first time yest. But I have no Idea how i did it. I tried for 3 hours to reproduce it and no luck. I was accessing my router at it's website config screen and somehow I clicked on connect to AOL and while it was trying to connect to it, i reset the router and BAM, it connected to AOL. And I was in shock. I thought I solved it. Somewhere while it was reseting the router it connected and stayed connected to AOL till I signed off and tried to sign back on to see if I could now connect, and guess what. The same dumb message keeps popping up "Your AOL connection ended because the AOL host was unable to start a new session. Please try to sign on again." And all I did was sign off to test it, thinking I had fixed the problem. I tried for 3 hours like I stated above, and BAM got it connected to AOL wirelessly again (somehow while the router was resetting). And thinking I fixed it, or figured out the trick to getting it to work, signed off... I kissed aol goodbye again. And have been unable to reproduce the "glitch". SIGH Can someone out there please help me?
I think I've made this message as detailed as possible, but please, can someone give me some constructive criticism on how to fix my AOL wireless connectivity problems. Do you know if it's my router? My MBP? AOL software? BTW, I got AOL software version 10.3.7 (Rev 4136.310 US) The latest version I D/L'ed from the AOL website. Anyone know If I should turn on or off some things such as personal fire sharing on, or firewall off or on? ANYTHING. Please. I've put alot of time into writing this post and making it as detailed as possible. And been having this problem for the past 3 weeks that I've had my MBP, and have waited long enough to use my AOL. If you need any further information or suggestions on making AOL work, please let me know. Thank you for taking the time to read all of this, and I really appreciate all of you in the time you take in responding back in trying to help me. I'll be monitoring this post almost hourly. So I hope someone out there can help. Thanks so much again. And help me make this transition to Mac a pleasant one knowing that there is a mac community out there willing to help a new mac client. Again, Many thanks
    In Heath and Wealth,
    Bruce
Mac Book Pro 1.83 GHZ 512 Ram   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    I FIXED IT!
FYI for the rest of you that might be having the same problem. DON'T USE A BELKIN ROUTER WITH AOL ON A MBP!!!!! It ***** wirelessly. or even hard connected, it won't connect. I went to best buy today, and got a refund on the belkin. I then went to J&R and got a D-Link router. And now it works perfect. I can now chat on AOL yet again, and I tried all the other web browsers I have and messengers, and warcraft 3 online via battlenet. And it works great. I want to give you guys a special thanks for taking time out to answer back to my post. FYI! Belkin wireless G routers do not connect you to AOL wirelessly on MBP's. No matter how much you mess around on them. I highly recommend a D-Link Router. They are easy to set up as long as you READ ( AND I MEAN IT!!!) read the instructions before you set anything up on it. Use the CD that it comes with, and you'll be good to go. Set it up and it works great Almost no dead zones in the house, and now I can use the MBP with all it's cababilities. Thanks people. I really appreciate it.
P.S. I called belkin last night when i decided to get a refund on my router for today and when i talked to the tech, after puersuading him to tell me the truth. And stop BS'ing me, he broke down and admited that AOL does not work wirelessly on MBP's. So to make a long story short this time, There you go. And one last note, I'm very happy now with my d-link router. I honestly thought it would suck. Not being a brand name router or anything. But amazingly, it works like a brand name item! Again, many thanks all.

  • I am trying to download lion with the thumb drive how do i back up my files is time machine good enough or must i transfer everything to my hard drive

I am trying to download lion with the thumb drive how do i back up my files is time machine good enough or must i transfer everything to my hard drive

A erase of the drive or boot partition is not always necessary.
Flashing question mark at boot could be a easy fix, sometimes it's the firmware that simply forgot what bootable volume to boot from.
Try holding the Option key down while booting the machine, a choice of bootable options appears, select your OS X and boot up.
When you get in, head to System Preferences > Startup disk and set it again new. This will tell the firmware what to boot from. Test it to see.
Now if you don't have a selection of bootable options, it could be that the drive is dead, or OS X is erased or corrupted so it can't boot.
You'll have to run through this list of fixes to see what's going on, if you need a hardware fix or what, I've also included links if you can't fix it and need to recover your data etc.
(If it's not remmebering your boot selection then also run through the list to reset things.)

  • Like so many others I have not been able to access or send emails with iCloud now loosing business. Not good enough and lack of info from Apple is also not good enough!

Like so many others I have not been able to access or send emails on iCloud.  This is now loosing me business! Not Good enough Apple and your lack of information is poor customer service.

Unfortunately, Apple does not yet allow merging of Apple ID's. if you were once using [email protected] as your Apple ID then there is no way to link that ID with the new one to avoid losing the previous data under that old ID. You will have to either go back to using the old ID to save the old data or just keep both, which you arfe allowed to do.

    is it worth installing XP64?
and is the VIA SATA controller better than the Promise?
Thanx ur help is really appreciated

34a on 12v wow ..plenty, mine doesn't have that many and it is a "600"
want to trade i have this nice old 300.....no, oh well i tried.
the via is faster, then the promise for the most part but your led hard drive light wont work.
havent messed with win 64 becuase there aren't any real 64bit programs yet.

  • Is the iPod touch camera good enough to use Scanner Pro?

I'm thinking of downloading this app but I believe it's designed for the iPhone. Is the camera on the iPod touch good enough to scan documents? I mean, I don't expect a perfect scan but if I scan a regular sized page is it readable?

I do not recommend this. While the camera is perfectly capable to film HD movies, it strangely is crappy when it comes to Pictures.
The iPhone 4 has 5Megapixels , the iphone 4s has 8MP and the iPod touch ( current version is still the 4g model ) has 0,7MP.
For snapshots ok, but not for OCR/Scanner purposes.
