Is this person trying to attack Arch mirrors or just very confused?

2009/01/03 23:11:12 [9566] rsync on archlinux/(unstable|community|etc)/ from UNKNOWN (203.86.[...])
This client's been sending list-your-files requests on /archlinux/*/ every couple of minutes for 12 hours, causing a bit of server load. Anyone else seeing this?

I don't mirror arch files.... but can't you block the ip address?

This person has been in my contacts for a very long time. Today it says "This person has not shared their details with you." I can still see our previous messages with this contact. Did this person delete me or block me? I know there was a recent skype update, maybe this person didn't get the update yet? This person is on a Mac and I'm on Windows.

I click "resend contact request" and it goes through. There is no spinning circle or anything. Have I just been deleted or fully blocked?

  • Questions on running an Arch Mirror

Questions on running an Arch Mirror
Does anyone here run a public arch mirror that can give me any idea of bandwith they use ?
Is there any issues with running the Current and Extra mirrors in the US ?
Is there any issues with running the Community mirror in the US ?
Mostly I would like to know what bandwidth consumption on a public mirror is for the mirrors that are normally used.  Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think he would mind this info being posted... i emailed him asking for the bandwidth info for the server for a one month period.... an average.......
    - we dont have
a record of actual data transferred, just the amount requested (which
    stands at 5440.17 GB).
My server only allows approx 2500 GB transfer per month... so, until i can find a way to upgrade that, I won't make it a public server.... if i did, i'd owe WAY too much money at the end of every month

  • Why am I receiving an alert saying, "This person cannot be reached by iMessage at this time" when I try to reply?

I'm trying to set up an account for my boyfriend on my Macbook and send iMessages from it like I do my primary account. So I tested it out, sent a message to myself and it appeared under his name, but when I try to reply back, it says " _______ is unavailable. This person cannot be reached by iMessage at this time."
But I messaged our friend who also has an iphone and he replied back with no problem. But my boyfriend's message came from his email to his phone.
How can I fix this? Will it fix itself? And are these problems related? Please help! :-)

If imessage is unavailable it will send your message as a text (SMS).   He/She may be out of wifi or 3G connections.  See the 3rd paragraph under imessage http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3529

I have clicked on it: nothing...
I have searched my messages: nothing
I have searched Firefox and the web for this person... nothing...
I've shut down & reopened my mailbox: Nothing.
I'm sure it's a spam type message, but I've cleared spam, made myself unavailable and shut down my messenger (I don't use that anyway), I've tried everything I know to get rid of this 'flashing' 'notice' that "elvianewtond141 sent you a new message." Please help me turn off this "flashing" notice of a message that is 1) not accessible to me; and 2) one I cannot open or delete. Thank you.

I called verizon suspended my service and they said if the person tried to sell it back, or put their number on it, it will get flagged. I was just wondering if i should reinstate my service and try and wait for it to turn back on and then go get it because you need internet for it to track and with the suspended service, it can only track if connected to wifi, but they wont get past my password.

  • [SOLVED] Trying to install Arch Linux from harddisk using /dev/sda2

    Hi
I'm trying to install Arch using my swap partition, following this wiki entry: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ha … stallation
    What I've done:
    Downloaded ISO: archlinux-2010.05-netinstall-i686.iso
    Command: swapoff /dev/sda2
Command: fdisk /dev/sda and changed the system type to 83 (Linux) on /dev/sda2
    Now it looks like:
    Command (m for help): p
    Disk /dev/sda: 250.1 GB, 250059350016 bytes
    255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 30401 cylinders, total 488397168 sectors
    Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
    Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
    I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
    Disk identifier: 0x00017e5b
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
    /dev/sda1 * 1 1060289 530144+ 83 Linux

    /dev/sda4 105579180 488392064 191406442+ 83 Linux
It complained about device was busy, but it still seemed to have changed the system type, so I did partprobe as it wrote.
WARNING: Re-reading the partition table failed with error 16: Device or resource busy.
The kernel still uses the old table. The new table will be used at
the next reboot or after you run partprobe(8) or kpartx(8)
    Syncing disks.
    [root@swamp ~]# partprobe
    <no output>
    Next I did:
    [root@swamp ~]# dd if=archlinux-2010.05-netinstall-i686.iso of=/dev/sda2
    327680+0 records in
    327680+0 records out

    [root@swamp ~]# mkdir /mnt/sda2
    [root@swamp ~]# mount /dev/sda2 /mnt/sda2
mount: warning: /mnt/sda2 seems to be mounted read-only.
    [root@swamp ~]# ls -al /mnt/sda2

    -r--r--r-- 1 root root 154058752 May 16 15:54 root-image.sqfs
    And unmounted it again.
The wiki page says to type: fsck -f /dev/sda2fsck, but I get no such file while trying to open sda2fsck.
    [root@swamp ~]# fsck -f /dev/sda2fsck
    fsck from util-linux-ng 2.18
    e2fsck 1.41.12 (17-May-2010)
fsck.ext2: No such file or directory while trying to open /dev/sda2fsck
The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2
filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2
filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock
is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock:
    e2fsck -b 8193 <device>
Can I ignore the above and continue modifying grub?
    Thanks :-)

fsck -f /dev/sda2fsck makes no sense because /dev/sda2fsck is not a deivce. If the wiki says that, then it is wrong. It's only doing a fsck anyway so probably not really needed. If you are just formatting th swap partition then use, mkfs.ext{234}.
    edit:
    from the wiki
    # fsck -f /dev/sda2fsck 1.40.8 (13-Mar-2008)
    e2fsck 1.40.8 (13-Mar-2008)
Pass 1: Checking inodes, blocks, and sizes
    Pass 2: Checking directory structure
    Pass 3: Checking directory connectivity
    Pass 3A: Optimizing directories
    Pass 4: Checking reference counts
Pass 5: Checking group summary information
    /dev/sda2: ***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****
    /dev/sda2: 243/78936 files (8.2% non-contiguous), 310519/314880 blocks
The first like should just be
    # fsck -f /dev/sda2

  • This person cannot be reached on Imessage at this time! please Help!

I am wanting to text a friend on IMessage and everytime i try sending a message it says: This person cannot be reached on Imessage at this time, please try again later. What does this mean i have been trying for the past 8 hours and it kept saying the same thing! please help! Thanks..

Lots of users don't realize iMessage will send a text to any phone but using an email address the recipient needs to be registered on iMessage. I suppose when you think about it a text is on the cell network but desktops & laptops are not on the cell network so are sent on the net.
Now if Contacts could be made so that it presented you with the cell number when you were sending a text but the email address only for emails.........

  • TS4268 What does it mean 'This person cannot be reached by iMessage at this time'?

I have iMessage to my friend successfully before.  But yesterday when I tried to iMessage him again, these words appear 'This person cannot be reached by iMessage at this time?  What does it mean?

Thanks for this thread.  I had the problem too.  It was very frustrating because he's overseas and we iMessage a few times per week.
The reason it was broken: the specific contact had changed his AppleID password and had not updated it on his iPhone.
The solution that worked for us:
He reset his AppleID (c.f.: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5624)
He updated the password at iPhone (iOS7) >> Settings >> Messages
He updated the password at iPhone >> Settings >> FaceTime
I reset my network settings: my iPhone (iOS7) >> Settings >> General >> Reset >> Reset Network Settings
He didn't have to reset his network settings, and neither of us powered our iPhones off/on.

  • Trying to Install Arch PPC

    Hi
I am trying to install Arch Linux PPC from the ISO on their site. I have run into a problem. When it comes to installing the packages I get and error about "key could not be looked up remotely" with different keys mentioned. I have tried changing the SigLevel  to Never in /etc/pacman.conf but this seems to get over written when I start the package install form the installer (/arch/setup). How can I get round this?
    Thanks
    Robert

    Hi
Thank you for the reply and information. I have gotten further. I am now stuck at installing the boot loader. I get an error that says:
Unable to find OpenFirmware path for boot=/dev/sda2
Please add ofboot=<path> where <path> is the OpenFirmware path to /dev/sda2 to /etc/yaboot.conf
So I have Googled and that ofpath should give me this information. But I then get this error when I run ofpath /dev/sdb2:
    Unable to determind controller path!
Am I doing the right thing to find out the OpenFirmware path? Is there anything else I can try?
    Thanks
    Robert

  • Trying to install Arch Linux on a HP-dv2000 laptop

I am able to start up from, the CD no problem. I get the Arch Linux menu. What I think is the problem is maybe a resolution issue because as I go to install it, the screen looks wonky and I can't see the command line properly. I know when I install Ubuntu for example, the installation screen looks off to one side. Only after installing the nvidia driver after successfully installing Ubuntu does the screen look the way it supposed to.
I think the same think is happening here when trying to install Arch Linux. Any suggestions on how I can resolve this? This is a big deal for me because for the first time, I think I am going to learn a ton of stuff about Arch Linux. I am willing to take the plunge following the beginner's guide along the way.
    Thanks for the help!!

ArchLinux is designed to run whether in VirtualBox or on a real machine.
If you have a TV connector plugged in it will chop some regular lines at the bottom to make up for the difference in TV resolution.
There are a couple of packages related to nvidia hardware, nouveau is one of them.  Just do a pacman -Ss nvidia for possibilities of things you might need to install.  Your nvidia hardware is a little newer, so probably nvidia is the package you'll need instead of nouveau.
Are you using X?  When you install the proper xf86-video-* driver it shouldn't have any problems with X.  If modesetting is turned off, then some resolutions may not be made available (especially in Gnome), so it is best to keep it turned on if at all possible (kernel default).

  • "this person record is inactive"

I have been using a mac mail alias as my iMessage and FaceTime apple ID without any problems. Yesterday I noticed I was logged out of iMessage on my iPad. I went to log back in but it wouldn't accept my ID and password and after three attempts it took me to the retrieve password page.
There I entered my [email protected] ID and received the message 'This person record is inactive!!!   I went to my iPhone and was happily
Ogled in in iMessage with that ID. I sent some messages just to check and all was fine.
I then tried on my ipad to log in using another Apple ID - that was fine - and then tried to add the 'problem' email address - which was there but was showing as unverified.  This generated a 'email associated with multiple IDs - please delete or contact Apple Support'. I went to delete it and got the same message. I tried to add a different email and got the same message. Basically I am unable to change anything associated with my [email protected] Apple ID because the [email protected] email is associated with multiple accounts.
I then went into my (working) iPhone iMessage account and it asked for my password. As you all probably know, you then end up being unwittingly  logged out of something you thought you were logged in to and so I am now unable to access iMessage on my primary (albeit an alias!) email address because Apple on the on hand tell me that it's an inactive person record and on the other that the email address is associated with multiple IDs (but won't let you do anything to remedy that).
In summary: I'm now no longer accessible by iMessage &amp; FaceTime....
    Any help gratefully received, thanks.

I was having the same problem, it's pretty lame that they don't put some support link to help resolve the issue.
Here is what I did, in iTunes go up to the main menu, click the "store" text, then go down to Authorize Computer, that will give you the prompts to give the "harvest" information they are looking for. Once you are done, go back to iTunes and you can log in an turn genius on.

  • Trying to add Arch to GRUB2 with GRUB Customizer

Ok, I have GRUB2 and I installed Arch and now I'm inside my Mint 14 environment using GRUB Customizer trying to add Arch to Grub. How do I do that?

    clfarron4 wrote:
Last time I tried doing this in ANY Ubuntu-based distribution, os-prober wouldn't pick up ArchLinux at all, regardless of whether Arch was mounted or not (rendering shulamy's question pointless). I do note that os-prober in Ubuntu would pick up Windows, regardless of whether the Windows partitions were mounted or not.
For these situations, the options I would say to you are EITHER:
    1) Write the Arch entry manually into /etc/grub.d/40_custom on Mint; OR
    2) Install Mint's grub onto the Mint partition, not the disk, install Arch's grub to the MBR/disk and chainload from Arch's grub into Mint's.
[As a side note, this seems to be a bug with Ubuntu's implementation of os-prober. In Fedora, Arch, Gentoo and so on, os-prober will quite happily find any and all installations of Arch.]
Wouldn't it be better in this case not to install Ubuntu's version at all and to just use Arch's? Why use one grub to load another, especially when grub really does not like being installed to a partition?
