Is this Phishing or for real?

Received a message that looks like it came from the iTunes Store. I went to the iTunes Store, clicked on "Check for available Downloads", and entered my AppleID. It seems all media has already been downloaded. Has anyone else seen this? Is this just another Phishing Expedition? Lot of posts about hacked iTunes accounts these days. Thanks.
"Dear XXXXX,
Thank you for your recent video purchase on the iTunes Store.
You may have experienced a grey or black screen while viewing your purchased
video(s). Apple regrets any inconvenience caused by this issue and has placed a

Alternately, you can open iTunes and choose Check for Available Downloads from

Howdy,
I also did get a similar email to the 2nd one (cdboehmer's post) indicated in this , however, in my case, it was in English as it should be, and it is real. In my case, it was apparently a notification regarding Apples Sale's information, which I do only rarely log into and I do have an account with due to my affiliation with Apple.
Of course, It's always good to be on the safe side, and ask if your not sure it's a a fake, say, here on these forums or where ever you can get some good advice, and remember, if you get an email with a 'link', instead, you can always type in a URL manually, instead of clicking on a link that may or may not take you to where it looks like it will take you, but could be a fake made to look like the real site to fake you out.
Some applications also will show you the REAL underlying URL for the link, if you hover the mouse over the URL/link for a few seconds, and if it's not going to the right place but some other bogus web site, then it is most likely phishing/spam/UCE, etc...
I was also able to validate in the email headers that it did come from Apple (although that too can be spoofed and could be lies).
In this particular case, it's legit.
The original and real email:

Our records indicate that your account has been inactive for 90 days. To keep your account active, you need to log into your account at least once every 90 days.

Thank you,

  • Is this BBM message for real?!?!

I just got this BBM message forwarded to me : Message from Jim Balsamic (CEO of RIM Blackberry) we have had an over usage of user names on Blackberry Messenger. We are requesting all users to forward this message to their entire contact list. If you do not forward this message, we will take it as your account is invalid and it will be deleted within the next 48 hours. Please DO NOT ignore this message or blackberry will no longer recognise your pin. If you wish to re-activate your account after it has been deleted, a charge of 25.00 will be added to your monthly bill. We are also aware of the issue involving the pictures updates not showing. We are working diligently at fixing this problem and it will be up and running as soon as possible. Thank you for your cooperation. Is this for real? I noticed that recognize was spelled wrong and it just didn't seem to make sense, but who knows anymore? I don't even know how to forward a message through BBM if I wanted to. Not sure what to do with this one. Any help anyone can give would be much appreciated! :-)

ajhaes, greetings and welcome to the forum.
    1. This same question has been asked in the forum here dozens of times.
    2. The Co-CEO (not CEO) of RIM is named Jim Balsillie, not Balsamic (which is an aged vinegar produced in Italy); secondly, the company name is BlackBerry, not Blackberry, and finally if you think RIM monitors your BlackBerry Messenger messages to know if or not you re-send that message, don't you think RIM could read all of your messages? Would you put up with that?
    3. Do you currently get a bill from BlackBerry to which they can add 25.00 to? Users are normally billed by their mobile service provider, not RIM or BlackBerry.
    So, what do you think?
Solution? Delete the user from your BBM contacts who was stupid enough to send the message to you.

  • Is vision development module in labview 8.6. sufficient for real-time image acquisition and analysis using a webcam

    Hi,
I'm new to labview and trying to develop an eye-tracker using labview 8.6. It has the vision development module and i was wondering if this was sufficient for real-time image acquisition and processing or would i be needing any other software tools.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hello, certainly it is possible and sufficient for real-time tracking!
About eye tracking - if you need an example, you can find the code here:
    https://decibel.ni.com/content/blogs/kl3m3n/2013/10/08/real-time-face-and-eye-detection-in-labview-u...
The code uses OpenCV functionalities along with the LabView UI (and some other functions like overlay).
    Hope this helps a bit.
    Best regards,

  • I just received an email from Apple that I was choose to complete a Apple survey to receive a Mac . Is this for real or a scam?

I just got an email that I was selected as a winner for a apple survey. Then I would receive a iMac . Is this for real?

It is a scam. Forward a copy of the email to both your internet service provider and your email service provider and explain that it is likely a phishing scam. DO not visit the site of the survey or any other link in the email. Delete the email.

  • I bought this MacBook Pro 15.4" 1.83 GHz MA463LL/A with 2gb of RAM for real cheap on eBay because I'm poor and can't afford a new MACBOOK PRO and was wondering what everyone thinks about these laptops and what can and should I upgrade when I get money?

I bought this older MACBOOK PRO 15.4" 1.83 GHz with 2gb of RAM and Leopard 10.5 on eBay for real cheap because I don't have the money to buy a new one like I would like to  do, and it comes with a disk to upgrade the OS to 10.6 and I was wondering what all I can and should upgrade (short of the whole computer) as I have the money to do so? Or did I just get really hosed?

You have the original Core Duo model. 2 GBs is the most RAM you can install, so the only thing you could upgrade would be the hard drive. Doing so is not a trivial task but you can find suitable hard drives and installation tutorials at OWC.
Since yours is a Core Duo model you can upgrade OS X to Snow Leopard, but not to Lion which requires a Core 2 Duo or better.

  • Using iMovie 10.0 my project say it's 10 hours when it's 25 minutes for real, how do I fix this?

Using iMovie 10.0 my project say it's 10 hours when it's 25 minutes for real, how do I fix this?

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

Try to log in to your account from your computer.  If it's locked, call customer service (800-922-0204).  If you can log in and all looks normal, forward the texts to SPAM (7726).

  • I PAD 2 TESTERS NEEDED; IS THIS FOR REAL?

IS ALL THIS I PAD 2 TESTERS NEEDED FOR REAL?

Umm, little more information please?  Testing of what (an app, a case, a cover, a mobile solar charger - what are you being asked to test)?  By whom?  Who sent you the request to test something, or where did you see it?
P.S. If it is Apple asking you to help them beta test some software, they do email people (using the email address registered with their AppleID) and the email will be pretty self explanatory.

While using Firefox, a site popped up and said it was Firefox scanning for viruses. It then said I had dangerous viruses and should download a security program. Is this for real? The site was update32.escmce.ce.ms I googled this site and it does not exist. Now, I am worried about the security on my computer.

If you're running under Windows, I suggest you download and install Microsoft's Security Essentials. It protects against these types of attacks and tends to find stuff that other anti-virus scanners don't find. You're system could be infected because of that bogus, evil anti-virus scan. Install and run the software while in safe mode.

  • Hi just upgraded to lion , now i can't use "word" can this be for real?

hi just upgraded to lion, now i cant use "word" help please

If it's Word 2004 or earlier, it's for real. That is a PPC app and it is no longer supported in Lion. You need an Intel version of Office. You and a lot of others who didn't know are out in the cold.

  • Is this phishing? aol passwords

I got an email that says that Itunes no longer uses aol passwords for access and I should use this link to create an Itunes .
user name and password that I already have.
I got this link in my email: http://new.itunes.com/r?v=2&la=en&lc=us&a=4ZAW1G%2BdE5yib%2BFlL6bgyleBvfHZONOdCH 1j372QPqE%3D&ct=aR9m2I3n6M
Is this for real or phishing. There are no topics on this.

So when you use the sign in box are you entering an email address such as <name>@<domain> in the left hand text box, or an AOL screen name that doesn't contain the @ symbol or contains spaces?
If you are using a valid email address then there shouldn't be a problem. If you are using an AOL screen name then my understanding is that iTunes should automatically guide you through the steps necessary to change your account. I'm not an AOL user so I haven't seen it myself. If it doesn't happen when you thing it should contact support on this link https://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/.
If you don't already have a backup scheme in place see Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy.
