Sorry for the cryptic subject line but I wasn't sure how to phrase my problem. I have an old iMac that has a broken CD drive. I would like to do a clean install of OS Panther on it. Can I hook up an external firewire drive to my Macbook, restart using the firewire drive as the startup disk and then insert the OS Panther disks and install it. When installation is done, I can then just hook up the external drive that has Panther on it into the iMac and use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy it to the iMac Harddrive. Does that make sense? Is there another way to do it? Can I just copy the install disks onto the external harddrive and do it that way? Thanks.

You won't be able to startup your Macbook from the external drive with Panther as the OS. You could try connecting your iMac to the Macbook via Target Disc Mode then inserting the Panther CD into the Macbook optical drive and then running the installation with the iMac as the target destination. Actually, (better yet) - put the Macbook into TDMode, connect the two computers via firewire, then startup the iMac with the 'Option' key down. Then insert your Panther CD into the Macbook drive and it should appear (on the iMac) as a bootable option. Maybe. Lol, I could just be confusing myself too.

The system regularly lets the battery drop to about 95% when on the charger, then recharges to 100%. This lets the batery exercise "just a little" all of the time and saves the recharge curcuits from overuse.
Regualr occurence for me.
Also ... you need to let your battery work at least once per month. Let it run down to 40%, but not less if you can at all avoid it. Running thr battery fully dead will shorten the battery life significantly.

The FireWire cable is just for the FireWire ports on the display. The display will run without it.

You could try Paragon HFS+ for Windows. That would allow you to read and write files from a Mac-formatted drive.

HT1386 I am trying to sync my iPod Touches calendar to my MacBook Pro calendar. I have been successful at syncing the events from my MacBook Pro's iCal to the iPod but haven't been able to sync the events from my iPod to my MacBook Pro. Is this possible?

I have an iPod touch that I often use to manage different events for work. I have been able to sync the events on my calendar from my MacBook Pro to the iPod touch successfully using wifi. What I really need to do though is sync my iPod calendar events to my MacBook Pro calendar. Is this possible? How do I set this up? It would be a huge help if I could transfer the events on my iPod calendar to my computers calendar. I currently have the wifi sync option on and have turned on the sync calendars option in iTunes. Thank you for your help!

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time. It will recognize the iTunes library on the PC as a new library. If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library. So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.

For FREE do the following:
When you get to othe part of the video you want a still shot from, put the video on pause.
Take a screen shot: Apple>Shift>4 - which will produce a cross hair so you can manually select which part of the video you want.Check inside either your Applications or Utility folder for an app called Grab. Will do the above with just a single click.
If you still want to purchase software, suggest that you do a Google & MacUpdate search. This way, you can find exactly what you want.

Some external cases include cords others (like some printers) consider the cord to be "optional" - read the package or product description. Other World Computing, HH Greg, OfficeMax, any box store or local computer store should have a case for your old drive.
You are fortunate in that the Mac will automagically read the DOS format disk... you'd never be able to connect and old Mac HD to a WinDUHows machine.

Connect the SSD with an external enclosure. Boot the system holding down the Command and R keys to get to the Recovery partition. Partition and format the drive with Disk Utility, then install. You're done.

If you want audio and video from your RCA cable source, you would need a converter device. One that I have used is the EyeTV Hybrid from ElGato. You attach to the Mac via USB, and can attach to RCA composite, Coax, or S-Video. You would record into the EyeTV software and later export to Final Cut for editing. This would not go live into Final Cut Pro.
