Is this power adapter ok for Macbook?

I'd like to get a second 60w magsafe power adapter for my Macbook Aluminum (bought Dec 2008). Here is what I'm looking at http://cgi.ebay.com/60W-AC-Power-Adapter-Charger-For-Apple-MacBook-MagsafeW0QQitemZ370224264486QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain0?hash=item563315f526. The power adapter model number matches mine (A1184). But I don't see my Macbook model number (A1278) listed in those on the page. The Macbooks listed seem to be older models.
The power adapter looks to be exactly the same as mine. Is there any reason I shouldn't buy it?

Thanks. How do you know it isn't original?
I'm trying to save about 40 bucks since originals on eBay are around $35 + shipping. Is it worth it or is new better?
Here they have the new adapter and the older (mine): http://store.apple.com/us/search?find=60wmagsafe+poweradapter&mco=Nzc1MjMwNg. If I get new, guess it is better to go with the newest of the new.

I'm traveling to London for the summer, does anyone know a good power adapter/converter for my MacBook Pro? I know there's the Travel Adapter Kit but it's only for iPhones, iPods, iPad, etc.

    Apple World Travel Adapter Kit
The World Travel Adapter Kit includes the Apple USB Power Adapter, USB Cable and six interchangeable AC adapter plugs for use with iPod, iPhone, and iPad. The adapter plugs can also be used with Apple MagSafe Power Adapters, Portable Power Adapters, and AirPort Express, so you can plug your power adapter into most electrical outlets around the world.

  • Does a usb cab to 60 Watt L-Tip Power Adapter charger for Apple MacBook Pro Laptop Charger exist

    does a usb cable
does a Usb cable to60 Watt L-Tip Power Adapter charger for Apple MacBook Pro Laptop Charger exist? i have an external battery pack i would like to use to charge my iphone and macbook pro.

Not that I am aware of.  An Internet search on your part will be required.  If you should find something to that effect, note it will not be endorsed by Apple and the magnetic connector will probably be in violation of Apple patents.
    Ciao.

  • Power adapter/cord for the Power Mac G5 A1177 EMC 2023?

How do I determine the correct power adapter/cord for the Power Mac G5 A1177 EMC 2023? I suppose I would need a part number or identifier to look for a replacement.
So far, I haven't been able to determine the answer from Apple's support search or other search methods. I do not have an original user's manual but the one I found on the net doesn't specify the correct power cord.

    Hi-
That is a Late 2005 Dual Core machine?

  • Is a 60watt MagSafe Power Adapter compatabile for a MacAir?

I have a 45watt Mag Safe Power Adapter for my MacAir.  I also have a 60 watt Mag Safe Adapter, and says on box, only for MacBook/Pro.  Can I use this for my MacAir??

To quote from below linked article from Apple:
"Power adapters for Intel-based Apple notebooks are available in 45W, 60W, and 85W varieties. Although you should always use the proper wattage adapter for your Apple notebook, you can use an adapter of a higher wattage without issue."

  • Power input specs for MacBook Pro

Anyone know if Apple have (or are going to) released information on the actual power input requirements for the MacBook Pro ? I specifically mean for the machine, NOT it's AC adapter.
They came tantalisingly close for the 17" PowerBook with this :
    http://developer.apple.com/qa/qa2001/qa1266.html
I suspect the answer is going to be NO, if so then I would suggest they reconsider their policy - making up new proprietry connectors and restricting the supply of third party products like this is really having an effect on their image. People DO notice this sort of thing, and suggest they've been taking lessons from Microsoft in how to restrict people/force them to buy more than they intended.
Given that I've a box full of dead Apple supplies for PowerBooks, some of which have already been repaired and given a second life, then I'd rather put off buying a MacBook until I know I can either make, buy, or adapt a third party supply (at a reasonable cost). I'm powering my PowerBoook now off a third party supply that seems better built and was half the price of an Apple supply. Plus I need three, one to live under the desk at home, another to live under the desk at work, and a third to go around in my case - it makes life so much easier. I've no intention of shelling out for three extra Apple supplies (two extras and a spare for WHEN one packs in).

You might want to ask this in the MacBook Pro forums… you're in the MacBook forums.

  • HT1349 5W power adapter, warranty for accessories purchases seperately

I purchased the Apple 5w power adapter from Target in Jan 2013.  The device stopped charging my sons Ipod.  It is not the outlet, cable or the Ipod as they charge with the power adapter for my Iphone.  equally my iphone can not charge with the defective power adapter.  How does one go about getting warranty access for the 1 year as this item is defective.  Apple store isn't that close and online/support doesn't bring up anything for accessories or when searching by the SN of the item.
I am putting this in the iphone 4s community as there isn't a selection for power adapters or accessories in general.

While the items you buy separately have a 1 year warranty on them, I have found that my local Apple store seems to ignore teh purchase of the separate item, and includes them under the iPhone warranty.  When I bought my iPhone, I got just the iPhone, then 3 months later we bought my wife's iPhone.  About a month after that, I ordered 3 extra Lightning cables and a couple of the microUSB adapters.  I have tried to get the lightning cables replaced under their separate warranty, but the APple Store keeps refusing to consider the cable purchse date and only looks at the purchse date of the iPhone itself.  In about 3 weeks, my iPhone will be a year old, but my cables should still have warranty for 4 more months.  I highly doubt that the clerks at the store will honour that since the iPhone itself will be over  a year old...

  • Using Macbook Pro Power Adapter on a Macbook

I have a Macbook Pro and someone else in my family has a Macbook. Recently they misplaced their power adapter and started borrowing mine to use until theirs was found. I was uneasy about it, but it seemed to work okay. I know that the adapters are slightly different but will it hurt the Macbook to use a Macbook Pro power supply?

It's fine. The MB will only draw the power it needs. FYI, the MBP adapter is 85 W, the MB's is 60 W.
    Hope this helps...

  • Power adapter/supply for Airport Extreme A1354?

    Hi all -
I just bought an Airport Extreme on eBay, but it didn't come with the power adapter. I've searched around and I'm having trouble finding a replacement adapter for it -- most of what I've seen have been for the round AEs.
The model number of the AE I need it for is A1354 (not sure about the MDxxx number). Does anyone have this model AE and can let me know the model number on the power brick? If I still can't track one down, can someone recommend a decent replacement power supply with the correcting power ratings?
    Thanks!

Really?  That would be awesome!   I can definitely pay what you'd like.  I haven't seen a private message feature on the boards here, but if you want to email me you can get me at appleforums [at] mattesch [dot] me.  Thanks again!

  • POWER CORD DISASTERS FOR MACBOOK PRO'S AND MACBOOKS

What is going on with the power cords and the MacBooks? I have noticed more and more questions about them and now I am mad enough to put my words out there! I have been a faithful Mac user and this is my second. This is, however, not my first problem with their cords. I have been told by a professional that the shafts for the wiring are far too stiff and that is why they keep malfunctioning. This is why many of you have exoposed wiring (very dangerous) and why the wiring is pulling away from both the wall outlet and the plug for the machine. I am now, furious, as I am in the middle of a huge design project and my local dealer (only 1 in a city of 1 million) tells me that Apple is "reconfiguring" the cord and they don't know when it will be available. So where does that leave me or you? I have no power to my MacBook Pro that I spent over $5,000.00 for and no way to get it!! Does anyone out there have any secrets or can you offer any help at all? The next thing you know we will be talking about Apple the way most of us talk about Dell. I mean, c'mon, such a simple problem but not one of the multi-millionaires has done anything to correct it? Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated!!

Broken Keys? Really? On a Macbook? How hard do you type?
I have owned an iBook (5 years), a 17" PowerBook (4 years), a 15" MacBook Pro (3 months), and a 24" iMac (1 year). So far, the ONLY problem I have had is a bad airport card in the MacBook Pro, which apple promptly replaced at no charge.
If you are not getting good service from your apple store, call apple directly. I find they always resolve the problem. If you get an answer you do not like, talk to a supervisor, and keep going up.
My brother-in-law, whom is much younger than I, owned an iBook and severely (and I mean severely) abused it over a two year period. Broke the screen twice (repaired at no charge), shattered the keyboard (replaced, no charge), cracked the case (replaced, no charge), tore the power cord in half (replaced, no charge), and finally, on the next case break, Apple gave him a brand new MacBook at, again, no charge.
As my company provides me with laptops from other manufacturers (HP, Dell), I can say without reserve that the Mac is by far one of the best built machines (maybe not as tough as a Panasonic ToughBook...) on the market today. The problems I have had with my Dell Latitude over the past four months (bad mouse, keyboard, fan, hard drive, in that order) makes my macs all that much more wonderful.
Also, what computer comes with free word processing software, besides perhaps a Linux Box? You pay for it somewhere...

  • Power Adapter requirements for a WRT54G Ver 1.0

I have a WRT54G.  I believe it is version 1.0 because it does not specify any version # on the bottom of the router.  I need to know first what are the power requirments for this router and secondly what linksys power adapter models fit my router?
    Thanks!

If on the Bottom panel of the router ... next to model number there is no version then it is version 1.0 ... for Power specification ... we need exact version of the router ...

  • Old iPod USB Power adapter ok for iPhone?

    Hey folks,
Is the old-style iPod (classic) USB power adapter ok to use with the iPhone 3G? I wish I could post the picture of what it looks like ...
It's that 1.5" x 1.5", white, biscuit jack-looking plastic adapter with retractable power prongs on one end, and the female USB port on the other. Plugged my old 60GB iPod dock cable in to the USB end, and the adapter to a wall outlet and viola ... AC power / charging ...
Was wondering if I can do the same with my iPhone 3G dock cable?
    Thanks!

    Yes, that will be fine.
All of the old USB charging accessories will work for the iPhone just fine. The firewire ones, however, will not.

  • Is this power adapter (12W) really compatible with iPod shuffle?

    Hello,
I'm just wondering if the 12W power adapter is really compatible with the iPod shuffle 4th generation.
It says it is compatible, but it doesn't make sense to me. Because iPod shuffle is so tiny, I fear that it would burn out if I plug it into a 12W. I understand that the 5W version is compatible but 12W seems interesting.
What do you think? Do you use 12W for the iPod shuffle, too?

It works fine and will not damage the Shuffle. The Shuffle will draw only the power it requires.

  • Is this Power supply suffiecent for my system?

Hi, Is this PSU powerful enough to run my computer? SILENT PUREPOWER SERIES TT-420AD, 420WATT POWER SUPPLY, +3.3V@30A;+5V@40A;[email protected];+12V@18A;[email protected];+5VSB@2A. My computers specs are as follows: AMD athlon 2700XP, 2xVdata 512mb pc3200, ATI Radeon 9700pro, Seagate SATA 80GB hardrive, Hitachi DVD ROM drive, floppy drive, MSI KT6 Delta FISR. I want to know whether this power supply will have enough power to run my setup as I brought an ICUTE 400watt power supply that couldn't manage(no doubt cause its a cheap peice of sh*t) but since Thermaltake is a decent brand I'm thinking it should manage but I just want to be sure. Cheers

That PSU will support your configuration and then some.  I have several TT Silent PurePower 420W in service - no complaints.  Dual-fan PSU of good construction.  Whenever Newegg puts that PSU on sale for $36.99 with free shipping (regular $42.00 plus shipping), I jump on it.
+3.3V and +5V are not a problem, you would be hard pressed to build a system that can place a combined load greater than 170W on +3.3V and +5V, even if you tried.  Your system power needs on +12V rail will be (MAX LOAD):
    MSI KT6 Delta FISR = .5A
    Athlon 2700XP = 7.2A (AMD Datasheet)
    2x V-DATA 512MB PC3200 - N/A
    ATI Radeon 9700PRO = 1A (see: O/C Radeon 9800 Pro)
    Seagate SATA 80GB = 2.8A
    Hitachi DVD ROM = 1.5A
    CPU FAN = .25A
    2x CASE FAN = .5A
Max Total = 14A (rounded to the next ampere)
Edit:  I should point out that 14A is the load expected if all these components are simultaneously placing their MAX load on the +12V, a condition that is virtually impossible to reproduce outside of a test lab.  For instance, HDD and CD/DVD drives generate max load during disk spin-up, thereafter demanding much less current for read/write/seek operations (approx. 1A).  Same with cooling fans.
A real world 'continuous' consumption figure would be in the neighborhood of 10A.
