IS this PSU............

Hi everyone
I have recently purchased an MSI neo4 platinum SLI mobo with 3200+venice and OCZ rev2 platinum 2x512 DDR400 RAM with the sole purpose of getting a high OC with stock cooling.
I purchased this PSU along with this setup: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=876412&CatId=1079
this is a 500w PSU with 34A on the 12v rail, i have read many reviews that showed the PSU to be very good, the only probelm is that it has a 20pin ATX connector.
So do u think the mobo will have any problems running with a 20pin instead of 24pin connector? would using an adapter make a difference?
I havent recieved the parts yet, but i am getting worried that the 20pins would affect the OCing.
thx

If I were writing this review on sheer good looks the Ultra X-Connect would be a perfect 10, but we do have to factor in a few more things to add a bit of legitimacy to the whole thing.  So let's start with the power supplies power capabilities, looking at one rail is all that is necessary and that is +12 @ 34A. This is enough horse power to operate any of the modern boards along with a top of the line video card and a few little extra tossed in for fun.
Now there is the stability factor, running two program for 30-minutes that both demanded 100% CPU utilization and the biggest swing in voltages was 0.17 volts. That is enough to convince me.
If there is one small area I would like to see addressed that is the inclusion of either 24-pin cable or including the 20-in to 24-pin jumper and not forcing the customer to purchase one since this can make for some very bad PR when someone comes home and finds out their new computer won't work without the proper cabling.
Otherwise...for that price...give it a go!!!

What u guys think of Coolmax or Rosewill with about 30 Amps on the 12v... or just other less reputable names than OCZs n Fortrons...
    Any advice on these ones:
Rosewill 550W Black Mirror Power Supply with 1 x 120mm UV Blue LED Fan, for $58
COOLMAX 500W Taurus CX Series Silent Power Supply, 1 x 120mm fan, 3 Speed Fan Control Switch for $57
I heard Rosewill is just a packager of CoolMax PSUs... Any1 had experience with COolmax and these MSI boards?
IF you need to keep an eye on the doe I would say fortron tried and true. They tend to under estamte the power of thier suppies and have been of high quality for a long time.

  • Think this PSU is enuff?

I just ordered this PSU since my computer started doing strange stuff after I got a Geforce 4 card. It was doing random restarts, the mouse was freezing once in a while, my Lan card started working once, etc. I unhooked a hard drive and Cd player and all my fans and I seem ok till I get the PSU. You guys think this is a good power supply?

    Exactly. I'm still using a 4 year old antec 300w psu (+3.3 14A, +5 30A, +12 8A) that is only 150w combined on 3.3/5. It's running a tbred XP1700@1791, Ultra2, 256MB samsung pc2700 at 170-aggressive, MSI ti4200 TD64@315/675, two 7200rpm harddrives (WD1600JB & Maxtor 54098U8), msi 48x16x48/ricoh 6x4x24 burners, 2 network cards, 4-80mm fans, and 1-60mm fan...along with the externals...2 game controllers(1 is usb), a steering wheel, joystick, wired optical mouse, natural keyboard, and a receiver to a wireless keyboard/mouse.
There has never been a single problem with it, and the psu never gets warm. Voltages are core:1.58-1.61(set to 1.6), 4.91-5.05, 11.96-12.04, and a steady 3.30. People make such a big deal out of wattage numbers. 420w "should" only be required if you plan on running like a bunch of extremely high power fans, a bunch of cold cathodes, 4 harddrives, etc... This system was unaffected when I was copying files over to a third harddrive.
Yes, that psu should be fine

  • Will this PSU worK?

    Hi,
I've just got a new MSI Geforce 4 Ti 4200 4x 128M grahics card and have installed it with a fresh installation of Windows XP_SP1.
I haven't put it through the paces yet and played any games but before I do I would like to know if it's going to do my system any harm as I only have the following PSU:
350W Enermax EG365P-VE which if I have followed the threads in this forum comes in a little low on it's combined +3.3/+5 V at 185W.
Is this value close enough to the 200W that is reccomended that I will be OK? If I keep this PSU what harm will I do to my system?
    The rest of my system:
    Athlon XP 1700
    Epox EP-8K7A+
    256M DDR RAM
    2 x Hard Discs
    1 x Zip Drive
    1 x CD-RW
    1 x CD
    SBLive 5.1
    Haupage TV Card
    3Com Network Card
    Many thanks

the 350 enermax can be frustrating as it will work in one set up but not another, its right on the power border line and like any thing one psu gives a bit more than another, trying its only way to tell
you will not do any permenant damage

  • Opinions about this PSU

    Hi everyone!
I want to know opinions about this PSU, a Topower True 320W, it cost a half than an Antec True 430, and has the same values for 3.3, 5 and 12v. Here are the details
    http://www.topower.com.tw/home/atx12v_320p4.htm
For what I've seen on THG website, seems to be a good one.
    Specs:
    DC Output +3.3V +5V +12V -12V -5V +5VSB
    Max        26A  32A  15A 1.0A 0.8A 2.5A
    Peak       28A  41A  19A 1.0A 0.8A 2.5A
    Combined     180W   180W  12W  4W 12.5W
                    300W            28W
    Peak Load 420W/60secs
Efficiency 70% minimum at 115 VAC, 320W output
Note: I'll use it at 230 VAC, I don't know if this will change any values of the above.
    Thanks in advance

Stilup is right. Skimping on a power supply will only bring you more headaches than it's worth. Buy a Good brand name supply 400+ watts, and you will never run into tons of problems that others have, trying to run a hi power system with a $29.95 power supply. Every time you up the cpu ,you need more power. Bigger video card? more power. Add a drive? more power. If you buy a marginal supply in the beginning, you may get it to run your system, until you add something. I have seen hundreds of posts that when they finally divuge what the specs of thier supplys, it is painfully clear what the problem is. All my systems run at least a 400+watt supply with at least 220 combined watt. The exception to this rule, is True power supplys, that supply each single rail seperately ,so the combined thing doesn't apply. BD51

  • TA26054 Hi! I'd like to replace the fuse ,wether ceramic or not on this PSU wich is Ac Bel api-9841-291

Hi ! I would like to change the power supply  for atx or other brand and looking for some info that would simplify an overdue research that led to little info, ie links would not result in opening correct window , example : http://http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=261623 at  #10 pres leads to tiger direct home page, last resort would be to change the fuse and again link to no avail https://discussions.apple.com/message/9052148?messageID=9052148#9052148?messageI D=9052148http:// because probably ceramic fuse in this Ac Bel api-9841-291 power supply. Any suggestions that leads to fix is appreciated and already did change psu last year , around same time for same psu so maybe a better fuse or atx altogether. Thanks Yal

ATX to G4 Sawtooth PSU conversion isn't hard.

  • Little leary about this PSU I just bought...

Well...Ive been having lockup/reboot problems from a certain game, so after exhausting every other option, I decided to jump into getting a new psu. I looked around and almost got an Enermax, but then I saw something intruiging on http://www.frozencpu.com - a modular power supply. I checked out the stats on it, and the voltages seemed really good on it (25A on 12v at least), so I decided to buy it. Well, it just arrived today, and I see that the power supply is a VIOMAX 500W PSU, heavily modded by the frozencpu.com staff (all cables braided, window over psu, etc). I had never heard of Viomax before, so I did some reasearch... I see the psu I bought sells for about $20 (on the high side) for a 500W psu   Needless to say, Im really hesitant to put this thing in my computer now... I was curious if anyone here has actually had any experience with Viomax, or any suggestions/recommendations on if I should actually trust this thing in my computer.... thanks in advance!
ps- this is the psu I bought, though I got it on sale for $69.99 http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/psu-48.html
    Rheq

Yeah, it does have the 4-pin and 6-pins on it. It *looks* ok, even though its *very* light. There really doesnt seem to be all that much to it... I guess I'll just have to try it out and see what happens *gets on his knees and prays*   I'll check back here again tonight before I install it to see if you fine folks have had any experience with Viomax or other recommendations for me. Thanks!

  • What do you think of this PSU?: Enermax EG651P-VE 550w

    http://www.enerpoint.com/eg651pvefm24P.htm  Enermax EG651P-VE 550w
36Amps on 3.3/5/12 sounds far better than my current Thermaltake 420watt psu which is only 18amps on 12volt i believe.
Because I tend to get a lot of bluescreens/crashes while playing games. Ground Control II crashed and bluescreened several times, so did Deus Ex Invisible War, and Clive Barker's Undying. and i even got a BSOD when i exited half-life a few weeks ago...
The BSOD with Clive Barker's Undying was when i quit the game, although I get a lot of "General Protection Fault" UT engine error messages.
Deus Ex crashed randomly after a few hours
Ground Control 2 also crashed to desktop, sometimes with no error message, and gave me a BSOD when i exited as well. (sometimes during play)
So the majority of BSODs is when exiting a game. Which is the same time the graphics card is stopping direct3d/opengl and going back to 2d...
Latest catalysts, bios 1.6, and all other drivers (sata/network/sound) are latest too.
the hard drive drive is defragmented
overdrive is disabled on the radeon. and the overdrive control panel tells me the temperature is 63 degrees, which goes up to 70 or so when playing a game. (celcius)

    T00thBru5h
its not to weak if the amps are correct but may be faulty.
or something you connect to it have short curcuit.
    get a multimeter.
its a tool that can measure volt ampere and resistance.
then measure the resistance at the power connection on each drive fan and cd.
if its very low it have short cuircuit.
if your not sure if a result is good or bad then post it and you will get our opinion on it.
    SAB.
    he should be lucky.
recently one guy was in the newspaper because of the lightning had struck his car.
if he had been in the car he would probably have died as the lightning went trhough the roof and down in the seat.
he had many many tiny holes in the roof after that.

  • So will this PSU work.

Does say it suports amd k8, most dont.
Should i be safe and step it up for another 20 bucks and get the noise takers, or am i just paying for a fan control feature. I dont realy need all that.

Looks pretty good to me. As long as it has the 4-pin connector for CPU power, that's the most important...after reviewing some quotes, I feel it has good numbers: Quote
With plenty of power on the 12v rail, tidy looking shielded ATX, aux and ATX +12 cables (plus one molex), whisper quiet operation and a decent price how can you go wrong? Don't believe the people claiming its no better than a generic PSU, dirty power can spell death for any rig, overclocked or otherwise.

Best PSU I've had, runs stable and I have plenty of room for upgrades. If you're thinking of getting a good, stable, and powerful PSU from a trusting company, then the 460W ENERMAX is among the best!...

hard to see but looks like the AMPS are as follows -30 32 35
right now im running 18a on the 12v rail, too low for me (system is stable but i want more, im upgrading and dont like the idea of running out of power)

I got  this Power supply(blue version)from Newegg about 3 weeks ago,and it is great addition to my system. The label reads--+3.3V=30A,+5V=32A,+12V=35A.It has 3 fans that are controlled by knob on back, also thermal speed control as load rises.I have knob set in the middle and it has reduced my case temps about 3 degrees. Also it is very quiet, unless you turn it all the way up.My system is very stable.
Also unlike the photos, all the wires are UV sleeved ,and it comes with thumb screws to mount it.It has a quality look and feel to it.
