Is this repairable

My HP PSC2410 Photosmart All-in-One usb port is broken where it was soldered to the circuit board.  All the other functions scanning, copying and faxing work beautifully.  Is this a  problem that costs little enough to make it worthwhile to repair and where would I have to take or send it for the repairs?

It is not repairable.  Electronics and water do not mix well.
Contact an Apple Store and request an out-of-warranty replacement for $229.
Unless you had AppleCare Plus, or a protection plan with your carrier.

  • HP LaserJet M2727nf MFP - PCL XL Error - is this repairable?

This printer works fine offline - it copies and prints reports in duplex with no problem ... but gets an error (locks up) and no longer prints from the computer.  It has worked fine for the last year, since I purchased it as a refurbished printer from HP.  It seemed to deteriorate shortly before it failed completely.
Is this repairable... (I was able to get the following printout once, but can't figure out how I did that!)
    PCL XL error:
       Subsystem:  KERNEL
       Error:            InternalError  0x7
       Operator:      Text
       Position:        1545
I would appreciate any advice as to how to resolve this problem ... including where else I could look for an answer.
Thanks for any help you can offer ... Melissa

    Your error:
    PCL XL Error
    Subsystem: Kernel
    Error: IllegalTag
    File Name: Kernel.c
    Line Number: 1921
implies that the incoming print job includes a tag which is not supported by the protocol.
To find out just what is wrong with the print stream would almost certainly require access to the source code (specifically module Kernel.c) of the firmware in the printer - available only to HP (or whoever was contracted to write the firmware).
In earlier generations of LaserJet printer, the format of the error message (as per the PCL XL specification) was somewhat different; for example:
    PCL XL Error
    Subsystem: Kernel
    Error: IllegalTag
    Operator: SetFont
    Position: 43
which could be used to discover the underlying fault by reprinting the document using 'print to file', then analysing the resultant .prn file, and finding the data associated with the relevant PCL XL Operator tag (which, in the above example, would be the 43rd operator in the print job).
Although the new format of error message is possibly more useful to HP in determining the cause of the error (their having access to the source code of the firmware), it would have been very useful to independant consultants if the original Operator tag and Position elements of the error had also been included.
If you get exactly the same error if you reprint the same document to the same printer, using the same application and print driver on the same workstation, then the fault is likely to be a driver error, in which case the only solution may be to use a different printer driver (if one is available).
If doing a reprint as per above produces a different error (or no error at all), then the problem is intermittent, and is more likely to be caused by corruption of the print job between workstation and printer; check (perhaps by replacing one item at a time) cables, ports, switches, hubs, etc.

  • I have old Macintosh LC that recently passed on,  anyone know where I can get this repaired or have the data transferred into something else?

I have an old Macintosh LC that recently went down.  I am located in the Portsmouth, NH area.
Anyone know where I can get this repaired or have the data transferred??

How much $$ do you care to spend to transfer the data on the LC's 40 or 80 MB hard drive?  The original LC is now 21 years-old and has little if any market value (I know - I have an LC I and an LC III), so professional repair will easily exceed that.  It's considered "obsolete" by Apple's authorized repair shops, so parts are not available.  Was it starting up normally before it stopped working, and if so, were the date & time always correct after it had been disconnected from an electrical outlet?  If not and if startups have been hit or miss for a while, your LC undoubtedly needs a new PRAM battery installed.  It's a 3.6-volt ½AA lithium battery and is installed in a black plastic holder w/retainer cover clipped over it on the LC's motherboard.  The battery can be purchased at battery specialty retailers for about $8 or less, as well as from a number of online merchants.  If you don't mind paying 2-3 times the value of the battery, Radio Shack carries it.  If you need directions for installing the battery, post back.  It's the least expensive thing to try and a new battery has brought many a dead Mac back from the dead.  As for the internal hard drive, it could be removed and installed in a slightly newer, pre-G3 Power Mac having an internal SCSI bus.  If there are any thrift stores in your area, you might find a suitable Mac for this purpose.  This would involve removal of the hard drive from the LC and installation in the newer Mac, with a slight change in the LC's SCSI address jumper placement.  Once installed in the newer Mac, the files could be copied.  If this is more challenging than you planned on, you might check your area for a Mac User Group, where you might be able to take your LC and have someone transfer the files for you.  After the files have been transferred to another medium, you may have problems trying to open them on a newer Mac running a newer OS version than the LC's (System 7.0, 7.1, 7.5.x, or 7.6), if the programs aren't compatible.

  • My Mac says that something is wrong with my Macintosh HD. Is this repairable???

I'm trying to download the new OS X Maverick and my Mac is telling me that the Macintosh HD is damaged. Is this repairable?

Do not use a Snow Leopard DVD to repair the HD and permissions for Mountain Lion. Disk Utility has changed a bit since Snow Leopard. Always use the Disk Utility that comes with the version of OS X you have installed.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

  • WiFi chip broken, is this repairable????

I was taking my motherboard out the other day, and was using my safe open pry tool. When I slipped off the WiFi antenna and directly above the connector is a small white transistor block. Well I chipped it. I get really weak signal now. Is this repairable or will I need a new board?this is not the exact phone, but right a over where the antenna plugs to you can see the white block, this is what is slightly chipped.

As the iPhone is not user servicable, I suggest you check on of the many self fixit sites available elsewhere on the Net.

I have a crack in my rear-facing camera does the warranty cover this repair? It's about 5 months old.

If it was caused by a defect thenyes.  If caused by accidental damage like dropping then likely not. Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store and find out.
If it is only a cosment defect, the warranty does not cover it.

  • Do you understand this "Repair Disk" error message?

I ran "Repair Disk" and it said the disk could not be repaired (see below for the detailed message).
QUESTION: If I use Apple's Migration Assistant to move my files to another Mac, will I carry this error with me? (In other words, will moving my files to a new Mac just move this problem to the new Mac?)
DETAILS: I booted with my Install Disc and went to:
Disk Utility -->First Aid -->Repair Disk and I got this error message:
    Overlapped extent allocation (file 4761162)
Overlapped extent allocation (file 4764806) .....

It looks like a directory structure problem. You should try to get rid of it asap, since that could lead to bigger problems. You could try a 3rd party utility, like DiskWarrior or TechTool Pro.
No, using Migration Assistant shouldn't carry this error over.

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.

  • How should i go about this repair?

Hey everyone, my 2007 macbook pro's lcd screen has failed to turn on, but the computer itself turns on - so i networked it to my friend's mac using firewire and my harddrive was all there so im able to save everything.
so the problem is probably that i need to get a new graphics card. how do you suggest i go about this, will apple charge a lot for labour? should i take it to another computer store with better charges, or should i attempt to change it myself?
    thank you!

There's a few things that may have failed with this computer:
    1) As you suggested, the graphics chipset might be toast. This means you have to replace the logic board, which can be costly no matter who repairs it.
    2) The display is broken. You need to get this computer connected to an external display and see if images show up properly. If so, the graphics chipset is OK and you can look into replacing the display, or part(s) of it.
    3) The inverter cable in the display has shorted out. This is least expensive part to replace.
What I would do is make an appointment with a Genius bar at a store near you and go do some troubleshooting and/or have the folks there diagnose the computer. All of that shouldn't cost you anything but your time (and possibly the gas to get there!).
