Is this Seagate hard disk compatible

Hello
My Mac only has USB 2.0 ports and I wonder if I can connect the
Seagate - STCA2000200 - Backup Plus  - External HD - 3,5'' - USB 3.0 - 2 To.
Thanks
Marc

It is easy to upgrade to Thunderbolt™ technology or FireWire® 800 with add-on adaptors (sold separately). USB 3.0 is also backward compatible with USB 2.0.

You need to get some software that allows your Mac to read and write to the NTFS disk.  There's a whole bunch of stuff out there, but this program has a good review, and you can try it for free.  I would move everything off of your external drive, reformat it into Mac OSX extended, and use it for your Mac.  You don't need NTFS anymore, unless you still have a Windows computer that needs it.

  • Seagate Hard Disk is not detecting

    Hi Friends,
I have an AMD Athlon 64 Processor with MSI motherboard of VIA K8M800-CE + VT8237R Chipset. My Previous hard disk was a 120 GB Seagate SATA which is lost now. I purchased a new 250GB seagate SATA disk and try to install Window XP 2 in it, but even though the Raid floppy is working my Hard disk is not detectable. I have the same old Raid Floppy which was used for 12o GB hard disk. I am not sure what causiong this problem. Is it relatyed to SATA or Raid floppy. My floppy is working that i used 2 weeks before also. Is there anything i messed. Please help...
    Thanks and Regards

Yes. A little strange to me. In a drawer somewhere I keep the very first hard disks I ever used. They still work, though they buzz a little. They date from 1997 and onwards. What happened to your lost disk?

  • Ssd internal hard disk  compatible for a macbook2010

Hy everyone!i need help to choose  a new hard disk for my Mac book pro 2010!
I was wondering which ssd 2.5 inch internal  hard disk brand is compatible for it?
I would go with a crucial or samsung, but i really don't know what i should notice before choosing.

    stefanobernardini,
I put a Samsung 840 PRO SSD in my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro. It’s been working flawlessly for me so far. Other people here have good things to say about the SSDs made by Crucial and by OWC, but the 840 PRO is the only one which I have experience with, so I’ll restrict my recommendations to it.

  • Seagate Hard Disk logistic error?

I have recently lost all my data due to a "logistic error" on my Seagate 120 Gb HD.
One day the computer just froze and on reboot showed that scary blinking question mark inside a file icon. Manuals tell you to reinstall your OS X from scratch, and 8 other steps if this doesn't do - as it didn't. I had to leave my new Macbook on an authorized repair office, which gave the above verdict.
The issue is that this happened exactly 2 days after the Apple warranty had expired. On top of that, the repair office said that only this August in Brasília they had 4 other HDs with the same problem, with total data loss or extremely expensive to recover. All of them are Seagate.
I was so stuck by this - it's my first Mac - that my computer use has halved, going back to my old MS PC. I had backed up my work files but lost all personal data, plus pre-installed apps; I use my Mac suspiciously now, with its new 250 Gb HD, and as a secondary computer instead of my primary one as it was.
Confidence on Mac products has dropped considerably, and I wonder if this problem has happened to other users.

Same problem here. My daughter already lost 2 weeks of data while I was on vacation and not pushing to plug to the TimeMachine external disk every day. I had to re-install the MacBook after the last Apple update. Shame that the company does not react now and provide a program for customers with MacBooks, Seagate ST98823AS which our out of warranty for just a few weeks now.

  • Hitachi vs. Seagate Hard disks

    Hi:
I recently acquired an "open" Hitachi 250 GB SATA disk for about $100 from Fry's, and two 160 GB SATA disks, one each by Seagate ($60) and Hitachi ($50).
I also was given a 250 GB PATA by Hitachi but I believe it will not be recogized beyond 128 GB.
    Pl. advise on
    a) whether an "open" Hitachi 250 GB SATA disk at $100 is a good buy?
    b) whether to keep the Seagate or Hitachi (160 GB).
    c) What can I do with the 250 GB PATA by Hitachi - make it an external had drive?
    Thanks

Sangeetha, welcome, making the 250 and external is a good idea, just make sure you get a firewire/USB enclosure. Then you can have a bootable backup drive on it. As for brands, I prefer Seagate, but I have a Hitachi, it is a very good product also. Can't go wrong with either. Maybe just check out GB per bucks and make your decision on that.

  • Can anyone tell me if this Seagate drive is compatible with a 2008 13" MacBook Pro?

  • Seagate HARD DISK Barracuda 2 TB 7200 64MB SATA3: can I fit in a Power Mac G5 Dual 2,7 Ghz (early 2005)?

Can I fit this Sata 3 in a Power Mac G5 Dual 2,7 Ghz (early 2005)?
Is there anyone who has bought it?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
G5s require SATA 1.5 Gb/s, some SATA2 or SATA3 drives are SATA1 compliant & step down, others do not, still others will if there's a true SATA1 Drive in slot 0.

  • Seagate 1TB hard disk replacement after 3 years

    Hi -
In mid 2010 I purchased a 2009 model 21.5" iMac with AppleCare for 3 years.
During that time, in 2012, there was a problem with the screen connectors, and the screen was replaced at Apple's authorized service lab in Israel, where I had purchased the device.
Recently, the hard disk failed. In the Disk Utility app the hard disk appears in red, the status is noted as "failing", and the system freezes a minute or two after booting.
I then discovered that there he had been a recall for this specific hard disk (Seagate 1TB), but I had not been notified about this recall. Moreover, despite the fact that the iMac had been in an Apple authorized service lab in 2012, they had not notified me about the recall or offered to replace the hard drive.
I promptly took the iMac to the lab, and was told that the recall program ended 3 years after the initial purchase, i.e. 1 year ago, and they could not replace the hard drive under this program.
It seems to me that if there is a known problem with this hard drive, and it actually failed, then Apple should bear the responsibility for fixing it. And certainly when the device was actually in their care during the recall period.
What can I do about this?

I had a different experience. I purchased a mid-2010 27" iMac in February 2011 from Amazon. I also purchased AppleCare, but never had to use it. I got both an email and a letter in October 2012 stating my iMac contained an affected hard drive and that I should have it replaced at no charge until the longer of my AppleCare warranty (which expired February 2014) or April 2013. It wasn't convenient at the time to have it repaired and it wasn't giving me any problems, so I dismissed the issue. In November 2014, I chatted online with Apple and explained the circumstances. They didn't hesitate to give me a code number to bring along with my iMac to the closest Apple service center to have the hard drive replaced at no cost - even though my AppleCare ended 9 months prior. The original hard drive still worked, but I felt more comfortable having it replaced as a precaution in case I decided to keep the iMac as a second computer or gift it to someone I cared about.

  • Whenever I start my computer it takes about 1 minute to start? hard disk keeps continuesly working during this

During this time Hard Disk LED indicates it is on work. and firefox title bar says "not responding". But it opens normally when I reopen it after closing. And works good.

Allright, lets try one step to resolve this issue, look at the Date & Time preferences, mark the check box to Set date and time automatically, the clock and date should update by itself when the computer is connected to the internet.
If the internet is not available, then only way to set the date manually, unmark that Set date and time automatically, then there should be Revert and Save buttons visible, set the date manually and click on Save. Turn off the computer and boot it again, the date should not reset if the battery is OK.

I wish to upgrade my laptops Harddisk from 250 GB to 1 TB..
My laptop model is HP Pavilion dv4t-1300 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC
    1) I need to know what all are hard disk compatible with my laptop
    2) I need the maintenance and service guide for my laptop as i'm unable to find..
also i heard about hp laptops tatooing ....whats that ? would the new hard disk baught from outside won't work with my hp laptop ?
Many Thanks in advance for your help!!
    Cheers!
    Ritesh

    Here is the Manual:
    Manual
    See Page 60
The new hard drive will work fine. Tattooing applies to motherboards, not hard drives. It needs to be a 2.5 inch wide and 7 or 9.5 mm thick SATA drive...it can be regular mechanical a hybrid or a solid state drive.
As the best bang for the buck I recommend a 7200 rpm mechanical drive like this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145587
But if your budget is a bit bigger you can go with a number of options at higher prices.

  • HARD DISK DRIVER ISSUES WHILE INSTALLING WINDOWS 8

I am trying to install windows 8 on my PC, but it is asking for hard drive drivers. I have installed windows 8 before with no issues on the same PC with same configuration, but now I am facing these driver issues. Currently  I am running Win7 as i cannot
    reinstall Win8.
    Config:
    Gigabyte Motherboard 945G with Intel Core2duo8400 3ghz,
    Intel(R) 82801G(ICH7) FAMILY CHIP SET,
4gb Ram, Nvidia graphic card, Seagate hard disk 160Gb.

    Hi,
I doubt that the hard drive is either a SATA drive or in a RAID setup, you might need to install RAID controller drivers or SATA driver during the installation.
I also suggest you refer to the following link and check if it can give some hints.

  • System seems slower after new hard disk installation.

    Dear all:
After a recent hard disk crash that caused me to lose a lot of important professional and personal information I replaced my old defective hard disk (a Seagate Barracuda 1.0 TB internal SATA drive) with a new one (a Seagate Barracuda 1.5 TB internal SATA drive).
The issue I am now experiencing may or may not be related to the new drive but I wanted to post it here and have your opinions about it. It seems to me that since this new hard disk was installed that my system is slower than it was before. Something else I noticed is that iTunes seems to hang every once in a little while, freezing and a while later resuming its operation (as if it were frozen while trying to read the information from its library located on the new hard disk ???).
Since the capacity of the new disk has increased some 50% compared to the older one, could this be the issue ? Can the fact that the 1.5 TB hard disk are new technology be a reason why this is happening (some issues still not completely resolved) or could it be that the capacity being so much greater requires the drive to work harder at finding the data ?
In case the information is relevant the drive's speed is 7200 rpm but I couldn't find any information (including Seagate's own web site) about its seek time spec.
Something else I noticed is that since I've installed the two 1.5 TB internal drives the fans inside my G5 have become more noticeable, raising their speed to a noisy level every now and then depending on what I am doing with my computer. This didn't happened before when I had only one internal hard disk installed (my original purchase configuration) and when I had (2) internal 400 GB hard disks installed.
    Any ideas ?
    Thank you in advance.

After this error i also run the System Diagnostic quick and comprehensive hard disk test and failed. the error message appears at startup of the windows...
i have important data and hard disk is of 500 GB but the laptop is not under warranty.
Model of my PC is HP Elitebook 8570p Notebook pc.
Can any one help me to make me out of it ,please ???????

You can put the hard disk in an external enclosure and attempt to copy data from it.
Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that it will work.  That is why it is important to save any data that is important to an external storage of some sort or other.
I wish I had better news for you on this, but hard disks do fail. Replace the hard disk with a new one of the same mobile hard disk type and use the recovery media. That will enable you to restore the operating system and drivers to make the notebook useful again.
Your notebook uses mobile SATA hard disk.   SSD disks are also compatible with your notebook and are a viable performance upgrade.
