Is this setup possible with airport extreme?

I have airport extreme in my office, this is connected to my cable modem. I have a ethernet cable at the wall that goes to my On-Q box which is basically the point in my house where all the wires in my house run to. Here I have several other rooms wired for ethernet.
Can I plug the ethernet cable into one of the ethernet ports on the airport extreme then in my On-Q box upstairs use a switch to connect my other ethernet ports in the house?
I would think I would need a ethernet switch correct?
Will the airport extreme give out multiple ip address over one ethernet port?
Thanks,
Jason

Yes to all your questions.

  • Can't Setup WDS with Airport Extreme "N" and Airport Extreme "G" & Express

    Hi!
I'm trying my best and have done this stuff with the last model Airport Extreme "G" models, but cannot get my new "N" model to setup WDS. I log in to the new Airport and start configuring, it gives me the option to setup WDS, but it doesn't detect the Airport Extreme "G" model nor the Airport Express I have. The only way I can get them to be recognized is to configure them all identically with the same network name, password, etc. and have each hard-wired into an ethernet plug. Sort of defeats the point of going wireless. In the new Airport Utility, how do I get it to recognize the remote base stations? In the old Tiger Airport Utility, it used to configure the other airports for you. The Leopard one doesn't seem to do that. Any help?
    Thanks in advance!
    Corey

OK-so after more than a month of having to put up with my Airport Utility popping up whenever I started my computer or came home and joined the network, I finally had the time to sit on hold with Apple and work with a Network Specialist--had to get the ticket "Escalated" first. What the problem turned out being was I set up the Extreme "N" o use WEP (Transitional Security Network) because I occasionally have friends with older PCs coming by that need old WEP instead of WPA. The net specialist helped me walk through the whole setup (from scratch) with the Extreme "N" as my main base station (like I wanted) setup using WPA/WPA2 Personal for password encryption. The older Airport Extreme "G" and the Airport Express do NOT support the WEP (TSN) mode, so they couldn't join the network properly--thus the constant error from the Extreme "N" that no WDS base stations could be found.
Hope this info helps people in the future! I haven't seen anything around that says Extreme "G" and Express don't support this newer Transitional mode. Even the ever-so-helpful Apple Tech didn't know why that new Transitional mode was invented.
    Thanks for the reply, dhanneman.

  • 2011 Mini Gigabit Speed not possible with Airport Extreme

I am unable to connect my 2011 Mac Mini to my Airport Extreme at Gigabit speeds.  If I use a Motorola SBG6580 as a router I am able to achieve Gigabit speed.  If I use my Airport Extreme or my Airport Express (both new in 2012), I am immediately kicked back to 100 Mbit speeds.
I have already eliminated the wiring as possibility.
Anyone have any suggestions?  Am I just out of luck if I want to use Apple to Apple devices?  I only noticed this after upgrading to Mavricks, is this possibly the answer?

    Hello woodmeister50,
I think I found the root cause this morning.  I took my wife's MBP to all my network outlets in my house.  All connect at gigabit speed, execpt for that one outlet.  It connects at 100 Mbit.  I switched the position on the main switch, same result.  I think something is wrong with the wiring in the wall, although it is marked as CAT 5e.  I may have to rerun that outlet.  Who woudl have thought...
    Thanks again for the responses.

  • Setup problems with airport extreme and cable.

I am trying to install a new airportextreme 802.11n with cable (comcast) using a Motorola SURFboard eXtreme. The airport extreme keeps blinking amber. Any suggestions?

Should I connect the modem to the AEBS before I power it up?
Yes, all devices that normally are interconnected by Ethernet, should be connected during the power recycle.
If it continues to flash amber, should I still go through the set up with Airport Utility? If so, manual or let it guide me?
Yes. The following Apple Support article describes the flashing amber status light in more detail.
By default, your AEBS will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a network name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN. You would then use the AirPort Utility to make any required configuration changes. The Utility has two basic modes: 1) Assist-me (aka Automatic) and 2) Manual Setup. The latter is used to fine-tune any settings. The assisted mode, should take you through the steps to get the AEBS up and running properly for most common configurations.
Please feel free to post back if you have any questions on setting your AEBS up.

  • HT4628 Intermittent reception when streaming music via Airport Extreme and Airport Express to powered speakers. Is this a problem with the Extreme?

i get intermittent reception when I stream music from I Tunes via Airport Extreme and Airport Express to powered speakers. I Tunes continues to play uninterupted on the Mac.  The problem does not lie with the Express as it occurs on both of my 2 Express at the same time. is this a problem with the Extreme?

Well, repying to my own post... Might have found the solution: I tried to do the same with a Macbook Pro 2010 using the very same setup. And it worked perfectly! No freeze, no nothing.
    One explanation I see:
my iMac is dating back to May 2007, a Core 2 Duo 2,16Ghz with 2 Go of RAM.
So the computer's characteristics (or the Wifi component or the combination of all of this) might be not robust enough to allow streaming to those 2 devices...
    Anyone's got anything to add?

  • Can this be done? Airport extreme connected wireless in extend mode to connect a wireless Mac Pro with an ethernet cable from the extended airport extreme..

Can this be done? Airport extreme connected wireless in extend mode to connect a wireless Mac Pro with an ethernet cable from the extended airport extreme.

This will work.....IF....you also have an Apple AirPort router configured to provide your wireless network.
In other words, you need to have two Apple AirPort routers to extend a wireless network.
When the AirPort Extreme is configured to "extend" the wireless of the "main" AirPort, it will provide more wireless coverage and the Ethernet ports are enabled, so you could connect your Mac Pro to any of the Ethernet ports and use that as a network and Internet connection.

  • Has anyone setup a Canon PIXMA MP500 Photo All-in-One with Airport Extreme

    Hi,
This printer is fairly well rated but I don't know if its compatible with Airport Extreme and 10.4, and if so how difficult was the set up.
Also, if you can suggest a multifunction printer that works well with Airport Extreme and 10.4, I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    MK

First, Only printing works for multifunctions connected to Airport Extreme/Express.
    See this:
    http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1300.html
And read through the separate Discussions forum here for Airport Extreme/Express-connected printers.

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa

  • Other devices than printer and external HD possible on Airport Extreme

    This was my plan.
I connect a USB HUB to my Airport Extreme, on which I connect my VectorWorks USB-stick, my printer, my scanner, my external HD (which also operates as a HUB, with my iPod Shuffle, my iPod and my iPhone (the last one not yet, but it is ready for it)).
    But is this setup possible?
I just connected my VectorWorks USB-stick (a stick I need to run VectorWorks, a CAD-program) on my HD (via HUB, via Airport Extreme), but that didn't work. Then I connected it to my USB HUB (via Airport Extreme), but that didn't work as well.
Is there a way to connect all my USB devices on a HUB, via Airport Extreme

As you have discovered, that is NOT possible.
The USB port on the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) only supports USB printers and USB hard drives.
It will not support devices which act as "keys" for software/hardware authentication.

  • How-To Set Up with Uverse Gateway with Airport Extreme

I just spent hours figuring this out so I thought it would be helpful to someone. Maybe, maybe not. My goal was to get Back to My Mac turned on...but this should also be how you set up your wireless network if you have both an Airport Extreme and a Uverse Gateway.
As I was trying to setup BTMM, I got a "double NAT" error. To use BTMM, you have to use either Time Capsule or Airport Extreme, so that NAT has to be enabled. That meant I had to figure out how to turn off U-verse's. I looked through the settings but saw nothing about it. Several hours of research--and a useless support call to AT&T--I finally figured it out. Here's the configuration you need, in brief.
On the Airport Extreme, under Internet > Internet Connections, Connection Sharing must be set to "Share a public IP address". Then under the NAT button, Enable NAT Port Mapping Protocol must be checked.
Now, unless you doe rest of this configuration, you will get a double DHCP error. So, in the Uverse Gateway settings, you must do this:
    1. Under Wireless, click the option to DISABLE wireless. Click Save.
    2. Under Firewall, click the option with DMZ in the name. On this page, choose your Airport Extreme (whatever you named it). Then scroll down and choose the option that says "Allow All Applications (DMZPlus Mode)". Save that configuration. DO A HARD RESET ON THE AIRPORT EXTREME. Then that should enable a single NAT protocol and BTMM will be on its way. And your wireless network will be set up properly.

Will the above method work on a set up with a Verizon Modem to a DLink wireless router to a Time Capsule?
I know of no reason why it would not. Whenever there is another router ahead of the Time Capsule, the Time Capsule must be configured in Briddge Mode. My network has 4 routers. The "main" router is setup to handle DHCP and NAT and the other 3 routers are setup in Bridge Mode. No problems.
Weird thing is Air Video set up tells me I have a double NAT
Double NAT occurs when you have two routers on a network both set up to handle DHCP and NAT services. Your Verizon "modem" may be a gateway....a combination modem/router on the same chassis. If that's the case, then every other router on the network must be confgured as a "Bridge".
If you have the "main" router on the network setup to handle DHCP and NAT, in theory, you can have multiple other routers on the network as long as they are all setup in Bridge Mode. In Bridge Mode, DHCP and NAT are turned off, so the other routers simply pass through the network information from the main router. It's by far the easiest way to configure multiple routers without having to go into special DMZ, port mapping, etc type of configurations.

  • Will sony s-air sw10ti work with airport extreme?

    Hi There,
I have the Sony S-Air SW10 Ti which has a great sound but the Aerial on it for DAB Radio is rubbish, it does have a docking station which also sounds good but no other connection parts. Would this perhaps work with " Airport or Aiport Express/Extreme" ?

Thanks - I am glad that you explained your situation a liitle more - although there is no direct way to connect to the wi-fi of the Sony - the Airport Express (not the Extreme) has an audio out jack that can be connected to any system - this would be an indirect way of using wi-fi with your Sony - see this link - http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/ - you could also incorporate Apple TV into your setup - see this link - http://www.apple.com/appletv/ - but as you can see, both of these choices involve AirPlay and Itunes which may limit your options - and because they are beyond the scope of this discussion group, I would suggest that you re-word your questions and ask them in the appropriate disccusion group in this forum - I hope that this clarifies things somewhat.

  • Creating a bridge with airport extreme (base) and airport express

i am having trouble creating a bridge with airport extreme (base) and airport express. i got the airport express to connect to my network. Airtunes sees it fine. i have an iMac (running Tiger) connected to the airport express via ethernet which i was hoping to get internet on (the iMac doesn't not have built in wireless and i had a spare airport express). now the airport express is no longer visible to the airport setup assistant on that iMac. but, like i mentioned, Airtunes is working fine, and the light is green.
i'm new to the wireless stuff. i am sure i just missed a step. how do i get the iMac to connect to the internet via my airport express bridging to my airport extreme wireless network?
    your help is appreciated.

You can do this with the equipment you have. Configure the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) to act as a WDS main base station and configure the AirPort Express (AX) to act as a WDS remote base station. That will allow you to use the Ethernet port on the AX.
Unfortunately WDS also causes the available wireless bandwidth to be cut in half.

  • How do i set up time capsule to work with airport extreme base to extend wireless network?

i have a airport extreme base, how do i set up a time machine to extend the wireless network i have with airport extreme? i have also 3 airport express's connected to the same network to extend my wifi all over my house. thanks in advance.

    Much better graphics, thanks.
You can leave the Time Capsule connected by Ethernet from the Linksys and configure for a "roaming" network as mentioned previously.
To do this, open AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Same name as the AirPort Extreme
No check mark needed next to Allow this network to be extended
Radio Mode = Same setting as the AirPort Extreme
    Channel = Automatic
Wireless Security = Same setting as the AirPort Extreme
Wireless Password = Same password as the AirPort Extreme
    Confirm Password
Click the Internet icon, then the Internet Connection tab
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Update to save settings and allow the Time Capsue to restart
Then power down the entire network
    Wait a minute or two
Start the modem first and let it run a full minute
Start the AirPort Extreme the same way
    Power up the switch
Power up the Time Capsule for a minute
Keep starting devices one at a time about a minute apart
Now, your computer will automatically pick up a wireless signal from either the AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule, whichever device is closer and providing the stronger signal.

  • Can't print with Airport Extreme

I am having trouble printing with Airport Extreme.
My printer is connected to the AE but every time I try to print I get a printer offline message.
I have tried in the past to print wirelessly but have given up.
I just bought a new MacBook Pro so I thought I would give it another go.
    Thank you.

Not very much to go on here but I'll give it a stab.
Go to the Airport Utility program located in Applications/Utilities folder.
Run this and select "manual setup" for your AE displayed on the left.
Hit the Printers icon on the top. Your shared printer should be displayed here. If it's not, then ensure it's powered on, good usb connection etc.
After this shows a usb printer connected then go to System Preferences>Print & Fax. You'll see printers you have setup before on the left. A green icon usually means they are available. If print doesn't work to the desired printer the best thing to do is remove the previous definitions by highlighting the printer and hitting the "-" icon.
Now hit the "+" sign and define the shared printer. It should be listed in the resulting "add Printer" dialog. Highlight, change any naming info and click "add".
Printer should now be available. I'm assuming a supported printer that have the device drivers loaded on your system.
    That's all I got.

  • Lost wifi connection with Airport Extreme.

Lost wifi connection with Airport Extreme.   When I connect my modem directly to the computer I can access the internet, however as of this morning I am no longer able to access the internet via wifi on my airport extreme.  I have been using  airport extreme for 6 months or more and everything has been working fine.
When I diconnect my  airport extreme and reconnect it I get wifi for 1-2 minutes working fine, but then i lose internet connection.  According to airport Utility everything is setup and connected and working ok, but I still am not able to access any webpages over wifi.

I have the same issue, I'm getting droppeds from wireless constantly
