Is this situation hopeless?

My daughter gave me her old Macbook with OS 10.6 installed. She hadn't used it in quite a while and couldn't remember the password she'd used for it. She suggested that I just reformat the disk while booted off the system CD and erase the disk.
I did that. But when I tried to install the system software while booted up from the CD, a message on screen told me, "OSX cannot be installed on this computer" (or something like that).

Since that time, I've tried to figure out other ways go get system software onto the laptop, with no success. I can't even find a way to UNerase the files that were on there. I've booted off both the OSX 10.6 system CD and DiskWarrior. Each time, the newly-formatted HD shows up but, checking the data about it, I see that there is no "owner" ... and that there are no "package" files ....
So is this laptop recoverable in any way or should I just take to the recycling bin now?

Often that original installer disk was 10.6.3

Leopard is going to be 10.5 so that's not going to work.
Even the retail version of Snow Leopard won't work because it's 10.6.0.
Glad you got it working and it "should I just take to the recycling bin now?" didn't wind up in the bin.

Repartition and format the drive for a Mac:
Drive Preparation
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

If one of these programs will not kick the iPod out of recovery mode then you will have to restore and thus erase the iPod

My Ipod Nano 5th generation is not being detected by Widows and Itunes. I have tried everything based on the trouble shooting tips outlined. Has anyone had this situation before? How was it resolved. My Ipod is just out of warrenty

Have done all trouble shooting tech a through Apples and still have not resolved issues on Windows and itunes not detecting my Ipod nano 5th generation device. Tried restoring the device manually using disk mode and still not being detected by the computer. Device is our of warenty as when service repair charges are $125.00 dolars more than I paid for this device. There must be some way to restore the entire device to factor settings without having to be connected to itunes and Windows. I wish I could connect but again device is not being read. I have another Ipod that is 8GB instaed of 16GB and it works fine. The sad thing about this situation is that my 9year old daughter worked hard doing delivering fliers for a long time to save her money to buy this 16 GB 5th generation Nano. Otherwise the Ipod works well but will not syncronize songs as it is not being detected. Maybe this is a result of corrupt files that got onto my daughters Ipod somehow and thus causing it not the be detwected through the USB connection thus as a result not be understoud as a working device through Windows and itunes. If anyone can help me out there including itune techs that would be well appreciated, but for now my daughter is not able to add new or delete any songs on her ipod as well pictures, and everything. This might sound like a silly question, but are you sure the iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch etc.) are still trying to connect to the same network from your own Airport router, as the MacBook Pros are? If you tap Settings on them, is the network name next to where it says Wi-Fi, the right one?
I've got a weird feeling that either in the past couple of days, a neighbour got an Airport device and hasn't set it up yet (causing your iOS devices to try to help), or that perhaps there's an issue with your Airport router and they're noticing it and trying to help out, while for whatever reason, Airport Utility isn't opening itself on the MacBook Pros like it normally should if there's a problem.

currently I own 2 iphones, iphone 4 and iphone 5 and both are destroyed unexpectedly.
our family is not a rich family but my father tried his best to give those phones to me as a present,
so those are really precious and I really took care of it.

however, sad things happend for both phones. there was sudden lcd problems like there was a line in the bottom part of the phone and it got bigger.
and one day, it just shut down unexpectedly. I was just holding a phone, but the screen got blurred and it shut down. and I can't even open it until now.
I tried my best to repair the phone, that since I'm living in a rural area, I asked my friend who goes to urbane area for the repair, and they said
it can't be repair cause this phone is from hongkong. (it happened in the philippines and I was disappointed much ) and they just sent it back.
but I had to fix this phone. maybe for others it's just an Iphone, but because this is such a meaningful gift from my father from his hard working.
I asked my another friend who goes to korea to give this phone to apple center again cause I thought they are way better than the philippines center.
however, their answer was shocking. apple center in korea said that, some part of the phone is removed so they can't repair it anymore.
definitely, it had to be gotten from the philippines apple center. I was so terrified who could they do that to the customer..

iPhones do not have international warranties. The only place in which you can get Apple service on your phones would be Hong Kong. Unless you have AppleCare, neither of these phones is under warranty. It is likely that the best Apple could offer you is an out-of-warranty replacement.

We have Oracle 10.2 and Windows 2003.
We have Oracle on Cluster (with Windows software).
When the System are without cluster all its OK!!!!!!
We have 2 Resources Cluster Group: Oracle and Applications.
We have Oracle in Oracle cluster group.
We have W Drive and a ftp program in Application cluster group.
We have C drive in both nodes. We have installed Oracle in both nodes but we have W drive only associate to the Active Node because is a Cluster resource (Application cluster group).
All days we receive text files by ftp and we put it on W Drive. This text files are readen with external tables in Oracle.
We have a problem when oracle fails and it goes to the another node (for ex. node2) because the external tables fail because the files are on Node1 on W Drive. If we move manually Applications cluster resource to Node2 then all it is OK.
We think to put UNC pathes instead of W but its not possible (Metalink: Note:290703.1)
How do you configure the server in this situation?????????????

We run a similar configurations and i doubt you have a chance other then reconfigure your setup. The way we do it is to have an ftp client in our database group and periodically transfer the files a second time (not elegant but it's working).
If that's not an option you might be able to use unc names in your ftp server and set the ftp root to a directory hosted on a disk which is part of the database group.
Or move to unix (that's what we do now). Than you don't have to bounce your server once in a month to apply security patches...

You will need to setup a new Apple ID for your sister. You have to have an Apple ID and iDevice connected and using that account to get an iCloud account.

Is this situation hopeless?
