  • Is this spam? What is iProtect?

I keep recieving this text and it orginates from a China prefix followed by my own phone number--Verizon says it can't be blocked because it is international and they are costing me money. Is this spam?
iProtect - Your sim status has changed, it may be caused by a reboot or a sim change.

You receive this message because someone in China who has a number similar to yours have entered your number as their alternate number (without the China international code) so they can be alerted when their iphone is restarted or when their sim is changed.
I believe that all you could do  is call that number and explain them the situation or tell them to include the China international code as part of their number.

I have received a message stating that my imac is infected by viruses and that I should download and install MacProtector.mpkg.  Is this spam or a real alert from my iMac?

As long as whatever installer got downloaded to your machine never ran, and if it ran you quit the installer and didn't let it complete, then you're fine.  For more information about this trojan, which is a variant of the MacDefender trojan, see:

  • Where did this Spam folder come from and how to I "un-spam" emails?

    Hello
I have my email account setup on my iPhone via POP. There is no spam folder on my email server.
Yesterday I noticed hundreds of emails in a spam folder in the folder list on my iPhone. When I log into my webmail this folder is no there, therefore I am thinking the iPhone has created it.
Firstly, how do I stop it from doing this?
Secondly, emails in there are from people who have successfully emailed me in the past without getting filtered into spam so how do I un-spam emails?
Is this spam a new iOS4 feature?
Ultimately I can resetup my email as IMAP but that will delete all the emails in this folder and I don't want to do that (so I suppose I'm going to have to manually move them all right?)
    Many thanks for your help
    Ken

If you are using Gmail, it is the All Mail label that has always existed, but Snow Leopard didn't show it.
You can disable it in Gmail's settings under Labels. Set it to not show in IMAP.
Some people experience problems when doing that, though. I did not.
I set up my Gmail as shown in this blog post: http://jeffschuette.com/2012/03/07/setting-up-apple-mail-to-rock-and-roll-with-g mail/
I didn't want Gmail storing emails that I had deleted, so I used his setup to stop it, and I also hid the All Mail folder from Mail.

  • I've just got an email that came into my junk folder asking me to reset my account is this spam?

I've just got an email that came into my junk folder asking me to reset my account is this spam?
It claims there was suspicious activity as there was a log in attempt from an unknown device then provides a link o enter my data, which I haven't done, why would apple be asking for my credit card details?

It is a phishing attempt. Do not respond. Do not divulge any personal or financial information. You can use the address below to forward the suspect email message to Apple.

  • I have received emails that appear to come from my email address.  How can I stop this/ or filter out this spam

I have received emails that appear to come from my email address.  How can I stop this/filter out this spam? Thanks

Apps are permanently tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them, and all future updates will require you to enter the password associated with this ID, whether you are currently using this ID for purchases or not.  If you are being prompted for your sister-in-law's Apple ID when updating it means that there must be one or more apps on your phone that was purchased using her Apple ID.  (When she synced with your computer it may have transferred this app to your library.  It was subsequently synced to your phone.)  The only way to stop the prompt for her ID is to delete these apps from your phone and your iTunes library and repurchase them using your Apple ID.

  • What about all this spam on iphone!

Help! I have a great filter system on my mac and all spam hits the bulk mail folder for deletion, however, on my iphone I spend most of my time deleting spam messages manually. I have been to apple store with no success - they say there is no way to keep the spam out. I think that there must be a way! Suggestions please!!

    RonAnnArbor:
You prove my point beyond even my expectations.
I said the additional SPAM was not a result of the iPhone.
I also do not think that it is even part of AT&T.
What I said is that is is interesting that my email SPAM has reached a magnitude higher than I ever experienced since registering my phone approximately 35 days ago.
You merely fortified what I said by telling me that your SPAM has doubled/tripled in the last 30 days. Makes me wonder where all of this SPAM is coming from since I registered my iPhone. Hackers!!! - Hmmm!!! Somebody selling a list of new iPhone users. Not a coincident at all. Think about when you registered your iPhone and when you started getting double the SPAM.
As I said I have been using AT&T for cell phone service for over 12 years and never experienced as much SPAM as since I registered my iPhone.

  • Junk mail confusion - is this spam?

I have long been confused by certain behaviour of Mac Mail.
When Mail identifies spam (on my Mac, at least), it marks it by changing the text colour in the preview pane brown and moves it to the Junk folder, as per my preferences.
However, I get some mail which does not qualify as Junk Mail or Spam as, according to the rules, it is from a previous recipient but Mail leaves it in the Inbox (or moves it, depending on my custom rules) and marks it by making the background of the preview pane brown but the text is still black.
If I click on this mail and mark it as spam, it then moves to the Junk folder. If I then click on it and mark it as not spam, it changes to the normal black text on white background in the preview pane - so there is something which makes me think that this is related to Junk/Spam. I have messed around with flags but they do not seem to have anything to do with this.
I really don't have a clue why this happens and have searched for years to find out without any success.
    Any ideas?

In addition to Corky's suggestion on the right hand side of your profile page is this box:

  • Is this email address legit?

I have send it to the phishing-address but I didn't get a reply and wanted to if anyone ever received a mail from this.
    I got an e-mail from
    [email protected]
and would like to know if this a legit address?
Because I did apply for job here but the e-mail looks suspicious.

This certainly does look like a legit apple-address. As was said before, all apple-addresses are [email protected] A spoofed address would be something like [email protected], for example, or like [email protected] (not saying that those are malicious addresses. Just using them as an example!!!!). The first one would not be from apple.com, but from apple-net.com, and the second one would be from a subdomain of net.com, in this case apple.net.com.
You have to be careful though if these addresses are in an HTML mail. If they are, the link "behind" themmight actually differ from what it says in the mail. You can check easily.Click on the link in the mail. That should open a new compose mail window. If it does, check the address in the To-field (if you have to by hovering your mouse on it). If that shows the same address, it is not spoofed in that way.

    Hi All,
Can someone investigate why not only some spam but also a set of posts by myself, Tony Garabedian and Grant Ronald were removed from the following thread last night? There was a couple of spam posts about half way down the thread. These have been removed but also all the posts that were added after. Can these be retrieved?

  • My wife and I share a computer, each with our own account. She gets an urgent message from Firefox to install an update and I don't. Is this spam?

iMac running Mavericks, Firefox 31.0. She gets these type of messages periodically and I don't. However, if I go to Firefox>About Firefox I get an automatic update. This causes a lot of confusion on her part, and mine as well. It appears to be spam but then it's not.

hello donRobo705, this might be something that is caused by rogue addons. in her account please go to the menu > add-ons > extensions and remove any entries that didn't get installed intentionally or where you don't know which purpose they serve or try to [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems|reset firefox]] and see if this can address the issue...
