Is this the correct type of Ram for a mac mini?

I have a 2007 Mac mini, and want to go from 1gig to 2 gigs of Ram.
I currently have 2 512's
I need to know 2 things. (i'm pretty sure on both but i'm not a huge hardware guy to bare with me)
1. Will there be any compatibility problems? I.e if i upgrade to 2 gigs will it even help or because the rest of the computer is not being upgraded will it be useless?
2. If i'm good to go, Is this the correct type of Ram? http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=4E665783A5CA7304
Not sure if these are needed but will post anyway:
Model Name: Mac mini
Model Identifier: Macmini2,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Type: DDR2 SDRAM
Thank you in advance <3

NO, it will NOT work.
You have to find the memory specific for Mac, and rule of thumb, Mac Intel chips usually take "ECC" memory. On occasions, You can get away with Non-ECC (on certain PPC Power Mac G5 towers) -- You can check on-line stores, like Newegg, Tigerdirect, or Goolge search for the Mac Mini memory. I got mine (for my two Mac 2,1) on line, and I put 4G (2x 2G), although only 3G was available.
It is worth of upgrade it. just need to find the right memory.

  • Can anyone point me to the correct type of RAM to purchase for a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009)?

I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) that recently had some problems and I was forced to reinstall OSX and ended up upgrading to Yosemite (I was previously using Mavericks). Unfortunately I did not realize how much OSX 10.10 would slow down my computer, so I'm looking to upgrade my RAM from 4GB to 8GB to help resolve this. However, I don't really have a good idea what type of RAM I need aside from the fact that it needs to be 1066 MHz. I was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction as to what the exact type of RAM I need to purchase or possibly link me to a site where I could buy what I require. I know some people claim third party RAM doesn't work as well as memory that is made and/or sold by apple but I would prefer to go with whatever is cheapest.

    A 15" mid-2009 MBP RAM specifications are: 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.
As has been pointed out, OWC is an excellent source for Mac compatible RAM.  Crucial is another first rate source for Mac RAM.  RAM from either vendor will work just as well as any purchased from Apple with the bonus of being less expensive and having a lifetime guarantee.
    Ciao.

  • What about Kingston 8Gb RAM for latest Mac mini?

    Hello!
I want to make memory upgrade for my unibody Mac mini with 2.4GHz processor. http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configuratornew/modelsinfo.asp?id=1&SysID=64063&mfr=Apple&model=Macmini+%28DDR3%29+Core+2+Duo+2.4%2F2.66%28Mid+2010%29&searchtype=&root=ru&LinkBack=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kingston.com%2Frussia&Sys=64063-Apple-Ma c+mini+%28DDR3%29+Core+2+Duo+2.4%2F2.66%28Mid2010%29&distributor=0&submit1=Search - here I have found memory marked especially for my Mac mini. I wondered if any of you used this memory and can you tell me something about how it works?
    Best

Thanks for the answer, but I need to know how it works - I mean different models of RAM can work differently on Mac computers. Some people said that Hynix works more stable than Kingston. Some people say that if you install 8Gb of RAM there will some errors can be while work. I need to know how works Kingston 8Gb memory with the latest Mac mini
    All the best

  • What's the best type of RAM for a MacBook?

I'm considering buying a MacBook (Well, begging my parents to buy me a macbook:P) and would like to know if there's any one type of RAM that runs better than another. Please note that I'll only consider the RAM if it's cheaper than ordering more RAM when I order a MacBook online. If you could post a link to where it's being sold, or a price with it (I'm canadian, but if you have the price in american it would still be helpful).
    Many thanks,
    Kyle L.

I'd also reccomend the gskill ram from newegg. I bought 2 gigs of it, and the machine is blazing fast. Not a problem with it (besides initially when I hadn't pushed it in far enough, but that was easily fixed by pushing it in all the way). I think it cost $170 or so. You might be able to find somewhere else and save $5, but I've found it's hardly worth it. newegg has great prices, and I've never had a problem with them.
Good luck with the begging for a macbook, and remember to get applecare These things are too expensive to fix when they break otherwise.

  • How do I use my iPad as the display and input device for my Mac Mini?

I plan to have the following stereo configuration:
Integrated amplifier with USB input that supports up to 24/192 audio, the Peachtree Nova 125
Mac Mini with USB connection to amp, wifi to the Internet, housed in the equipment cabinet with the integrated amp, no other music source.  No display or keyboard connected to the Mac Mini.
I would like to use my iPad as the display and to control the Mac Mini to run Pandora, iTunes, Spotify, podcasts, etc.
Anyone have success with this general configuration?

You need a set of apps (one for iPad and another for computer) like Team viewer or Go to my PC

The Apple USB superdrive would be a great choice for you, ( http://store.apple.com/ca/product/MD564ZM/A/apple-usb-superdrive?fnode=5f ) I am not certain but I am pretty sure that it has the same form factor as the MacMini (Not thickness but all the other dimenetions) so it fits just under and looks like an extension of your mac.

  • Can I wipe off the OS on a IMAC and use the IMAC as a monitor for a MAC Mini

I have an IMAC that can not be upgraded from Snow Leopard because it is too old. I was wondering if there is a way to maybe wipe off the OS and use the machine as a monitor attached to a new  MAC mini so I could have mountain lion?

No; some iMac models support video in, in which case wiping the OS off won't help, but all of those can be upgraded to newer OSes. The other iMac models can only be used as a monitor through Virtual Network Computing, which requires a separate monitor to set up, and that the iMac has an OS installed.

  • Possible to use iMac 27" as monitor for PPC Mac Mini (DVI)?

This question appeared on the support community, about 4 years ago, but the adapter mentioned as a solution is now discontinued.

I have an old PPC-based Mac Mini that I would like to connect to my new iMac 27", but my Mac Mini has DVI output and the iMac 27" has Mini DisplayPort input. Is this the only way to connect a PPC Mac Mini (or any DVI device) to the iMac 27"?

I am in the same exact situation, and would appreciate any suggestions!
    Thanks!

Sorry, no the MM is simply too old. Please read Apple's FAQ on Target Display Mode and you will see:

  • Is this the correct ram for my asus sabertooth

    Is this the correct memory:
    Kingston HyperX 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) XMP Desktop Memory Model KHX1600C9D3K3/12GX
    For this Board:
ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Yes, that RAM will fit in your motherboard. At $109, it's well worth it to get 2 kits to get 24GB... if your budget allows.

  • Hi, I bought an imac 27" quad-core i5 with 1067Mhz DDR3 RAM in it. I would like to know if this is the right type of speed for my imac as I found out that these imacs come standard with 1333Mhz DDR3's? It is crashing a lot!

Hi all. I bought an imac 27", 3.1Ghz quad-core i5 Mid 2011 last year in 2012. The machine has been crashing ever so frequently. I upgraded the RAM from the 4Gb it came with to 12Gb. It still crashes! I recently noticed that my imac came with 1067Mhz DDR3 memory chips ( slower speed) than the Apple mac recommended 1333Mhz DDR3 memory chips.
The shop I bought it from ( Incredible Connection, Woodmead, South Africa) are refusing to own up as they are saying the 1333Mhz chips have to be ordered in advance. Surely they are supposed to sell the product with the right kind of Ram in it? Not for me to find out? Now I have to fork out more money to make my imac factory standard? Maybe I am wrong, But do these Mid 2011's run well on 1067Mhz memory chips if I upgrade to 32Gb? Is it possible people are swapping 1333Mhz chips from new machines with 1067Mhz chips which are way too cheaper? My system version( SMC Number) is 1.72f5
    Baffled!

Mac and Mac models are picky about the RAM the Mac needs to see and use.
As you have found out, the 1067 speed RAM will not work in your year and model iMac.
You need the 1333 speed RAM.
If, you can return the RAM for a refund, do it!
If not, try online Mac RAM source and seller Crucial memory. They have a table that matches your Mac to the correct and reliable RAM. You may need to contact them to see whether or not they ship to South Africa, though.
If Crucial dpesn't work out, here's the specs for your year and model iMac that you need to seek out and purchase.
    Maximum Memory
32 GB (Actual) 16 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    4 - 204-pin PC3-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
    Good Luck!

  • Is this the correct area for IPhoto 7.1.5?

Trying to fix a friends computer (a thankless task). It's a dualgig G4 with OS 10.4.11
Finally got just about everything working but IPhoto won't launch. Did a complete update from OS10.4 and all appropriate apps including from IPhoto 7.0.1
first, is this the correct area? In the heading for Iphoto discussions, it jumps form iphoto 6 to iphoto 08.
Since before I did the software updates, IPhoto would not launch either from the doc or the program icon in the application folder. Any ideas what to do?

Yes. This is the correct forum. iPhoto 7.1.5 is iPhoto 08. This is the numbering relationship between iPhoto and iLife:
    ▪ iPhoto 1: released January 2002
    ▪ iPhoto 2 (iLife): released January 2003
    ▪ iPhoto 4 (iLife '04): released January 2004
    ▪ iPhoto 5 (iLife '05): released January 2005
    ▪ iPhoto 6 (iLife '06): released January 2006
    ▪ iPhoto 7 (iLife '08): released August 2007
    ▪ iPhoto 8 (iLife '09): released January 2009
    ▪ iPhoto 9 (iLife '11): released October 2010
What happens when you try to launch iPhoto?
Try the following: delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • 'You Are Not Using The Correct Type of Phone Cord' Error

Having a issue with my fax on my HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless.  Tried to send a fax, it  received a send error.  I ran fax test and it came back with "You are not using the correct type of phone cord".  Nothing has changed since I last fax'd but I check the lines and connection, everything appears ok.  Phone jack is connected to 1-line and Officejet '2-ext' is connected to the phone.  I use a dedicated phone # and the Officejet is set to auto answer.   I can call out and receive calls on the phone connect to the Officejet.  My assumption is that since I can use the phone without issue there is nothing wrong with the phone line.  Any ideas?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I was having the same problem.  I'm using a the 2 wire phone cord provided with the printer and still getting this error.  Turns out that it related to have a phone extension plugged into the printer.  If I unplug the telephone form the extension jack on the back of the printer, then the fax test passes.   I was even using a 2 wire cord on the phone extension but it seems that simply having a telephone plugged into the extension jack will cause this error.
Run the test without a telephone plugged into the printer's extension jack and you should be fine.
    Worked for me!
