  • Where is the forum to post questions on Windows 8.1 (table) APPS

    I have a Windows Tablet (HP OMNI) Windows 8. I am using the people app that Microsoft provides. I have linked my account with Facebook. Now when I go to the PEOPLE app in Windows tablet and I click on "Whats new", I should see all the new updates
    from Facebook however I just see only 3 of them. Is there a way for me to see all the notifications from Facebook.
    If it helps, this used to work just fine almost a month back so I m not sure why it is not working now.
    I have tried almost everything - restart, uninstall the PEOPLE and MAIL app and install it back , re-add my facebook account in the PEOPLE APP but nothing helps. I only see 3 notification IN WHATS NEW sections.

  • This might be a simple question.   On those sites that do not differentiate between models when on the internet I.e. Facebook when after your comment and you cannot hit "enter" on an iPad for examp. And speed is slow to connect.  What is = to post?

On those sites that do not differentiate between CRT, laptop, tablet etc. such as an iPad Mini and using the Facebook site fir example when going to post a comment and you do not have a enter button on the IPad and the speed is slow how do you get your comments to post if we do not have a enter button?

    This is not Adobe. Rather user to user. The Adobe Staff and PRE_help presence in this forum is undefined.
    The replies from here are not instantaneous. But, your fellow users all try to respond as timely as possible.
    What is your computer operating system?
    From where are you downloading Premiere Elements 13....direct from Adobe as the tryout or the purchased product? If the purchased product, do you now have a purchased serial number to go with the installation files?
    Where are you stopped in the installation....at the Sign In or before? Is the faulting module cited in any messages? What are the error messages?
    The usual questions:
    1. Are you working with the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
    2. Are you running the computer programs as administrator?
    3. Are you working with a pen and tablet device instead of mouse?
    4. Is your video card/graphics card up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?
    5. Are you installing the program to the default location on the Local Disc C (if Windows).
    Let us start here and then decide what next based on the details that you post. Subsequent troubleshooting may include:
    deletion of the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and/or uninstall, free ccleaner run through, reinstall with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.

  • I was playing with my ipad settings (it's an older model) and noted in the advanced settings of Safari there was a place to view website databases.  When I clicked on this I saw websites.  How do these get there and what does the space amount mean?

    Can anyone tell me how these get there?  Can a website be posted even if it was never went to?  What does the space amount mean?  For example, 1.5 kb...is this quite a bit?  Would it indicate someone has gone to a site multiple times?
    I share my ipad with my teenage daughter and I'm trying to find out if she's lying to me.  Obviously she's swearing that she has "no idea" how these got there and I'm trying to keep her safe (she's only 14).

    Think of your PC and the 'temporary internet folder' where it keeps cached copies of web pages or elements off a web page for 'quicker display the next time you visit'. That's pretty much what that folder is. 1.5K is tiny. Probably just a basic page with some text on it. (you might be confusing 1.5K with 1.5 megabyte....megabyte is large...it's roughly 1000 kilobytes, so the 1.5K is a tiny file)
    As far as I know, the only way info gets into that folder is if the browser has been to that site.
    if you have a concern there are browsers out there, McGruff is one i've seen recommended, that allow some degree of parental control and supervision. That or you could passcode lock the iPad or enable the restrictions to turn off some parts of the device to have some control.

  • A question about arrays (brace yourself this is a long post)

    I am working on an assignment that is about generating a random rabbit race by using arrays:
    Rabbit Race
    Write a program to simulate a race between 4 rabbits (numbered 0 to 3). Initially, all contestants are at the start of the race track (position 0) and must race on a 20 meter track (positions numbered 0 to 19). Each participant has its own technique; some run fast, but are sometimes lazy; while others run slowly but steadily. All rabbits make 1 movement one after the other and the one who arrives at the end of the track before the others, wins the race. Here are the rabbit?s strategies :
    At each turn, rabbit 0:
    - sleeps (so does not run), 50% of the time;
    - runs 4 meters, 30% of the time;
    - runs 3 meters, 20% of the time.
    At every turn, rabbit 1 runs 2 meters.
    At each turn, rabbit 2:
    - sleeps, 30% of the time;
    - runs 3 meters, 70% of the time.
    At each turn, rabbit 3:
    - runs 1 meter, 80% of the time;
    - runs 10 meters, 20% of the time.
    The difficulty in the race is that the track has little slippery hills. So after each movement, rabbits can slide down a hill bringing them either closer to the finishing line, or closer to the starting line. How much they slide and in what direction depends on the slope of the hill at their current position, and how many meters they ran during this turn. Each position (or meter) of the hill has a slope represented by an integer between -3 and +2. If the slope is :
    - zero : then, there is no hill at this position and rabbits that reach this position stay there.
    - a negative integer : then, there is a declining side of a hill at this position, and all rabbits reaching this position will slide down
    to a new position that is closer to the finishing line. The new position will be the current position minus the slope times the number of meters the rabbit ran.
    For example, assume a rabbit was in position 10, then ran 5 meters to position 15. If the slope at position 15 is -2, then the new position of the rabbit will be 15 - (-2 x 5) = 25.
    - a positive integer : then, there is a rising side of hill at that position, and all rabbits reaching this position will slide down to a new position that is closer to the starting line. The new position will be the current position minus the slope times the number of meters the rabbit ran.
    For example, assume a rabbit was in position 10, then ran 5 meters to position 15. If the slope at position 15 is +1, then the new position of the rabbit will be 15 - (+1 x 5) = 10.
    Notes on the race:

    - A rabbit?s position can never go below 0. If, after calculating a rabbit?s position, you arrive at a negative position (ex. position -3), then consider that it is at position 0.
    - Consider that any position outside the track (ex. position 0 or position 20) has a slope of 0.
    - If a rabbit reaches position 19 (or goes beyond it), it does not immediately win the race. If any other rabbit reaches position 19 (or beyond) during the same turn, then there is a tie.
    - If at the same turn, one rabbit reaches position 19, and another reaches a position higher than 19, the second rabbit does not win the race because it went further than the first. They both win.

    I'm not going to read that long post. As suggested, produce an SSCCE
    and paste in the exact, complete error message, and indicate clearly which line causes it.
    I did notice this though:

    is at position 21 but the array is only 20 in length and my program crashes if i go beyond the array length.Either you're misunderstanding something, or the assignment has a typo. If you have an array of length 20, then the indices are 0..19.
    Maybe the instructor is calling index 0 position 1--separating Java's array impelementation details from
    colloquial 1-based counting, so that the rabbit starts at "position 1" (index 0) goes through "position 20"
    (index 19), and when he's done, he's "at postion 21"--i.e., past the finish line, off the end of the course, etc.
    This won't correspond to any index in the array, but can still be considered a logical position in the race. "Oh, he's
    at position 21. He's done. There's nothing more to do with the array, as it has no slot corresponding to
    this 'done' position."
    That's pure speculation on my part. You'll have to ask your instructor or figure out for yourself what's going on.

My question is do I need to delete them or will time machine automatically reclaim the space?  There is only one sparse bundle but when I enter time machine I don't see my historic backups.  I use a synology DS212 for my time machine.  Started a new backup which is 218gb but it says 618 gb is occupied  therefore it looks like 2 or 3 backups are still on the disk. Before my NAS issues the last backup was in 2014.  As you can see there is a second sparse bundle from 2012.  Not sure what that is.

    This is an old message now, but what happened to me similarly was:
    I had a major computer crash and through complicated pathways ended up reinstalling (Mavericks) as a new user (long story).
    At least I had good Time Machine backups on an NAS drive (Synology DS212j), or so I thought - when I started Time Machine up again, the old backup file was gone, replaced by a new one using my "new computer" name. The old file was gone both by directly mounting the NAS drive and by clicking "Enter Time Machine".
    It's like I had {OldShareName}.sparsebundle and then it was replaced by {NewShareName}.sparsebundle, all of the old info vanished.
    (I have spent a week finding old files elsewhere and have completed a satisfactory self-restore. It pays to "archive" [my own variation of] as well as "back-up".)
    My belief is that if this were a wired-netword-drive, e.g. plugged right into my iMac with a USB cable, then the old file would have remained.
    But this is an NAS drive, connected directly to my Airport wireless router, and I don't know the significance of the fact that it stores its Time Machine backups as "sparsebundle" files rather than simply as plain(er) files.
    As usual when things get complicated with computers (not just Apple computers) there was never a warning message. Something like "YOU'RE ABOUT TO DELETE A TIME MACHINE BACK-UP FILE!!!" would have made my life a lot simpler.
    BTW, I did try a "restore from Time Machine" option the first thing I had my "new computer" (old hardware, 2009 iMac) up and running, using Migration Assistant, and it ran for many hours and then failed in the wee hours - what that has to do with anything I'm not sure.
    I'm not sure that I have a question about this other than "why do these things happen to me?", but it's a warning. Apart from that I've been very happy with the stability and reliability (but not the cost or set-up complexity) of NAS vs. directly-cabled external drives.

    Your email won't have the same confirmation number as it was ordered over the phone. You will need the last name used for the order, the location code (this ends in 01) and an order number (five to six digit number). Please keep us posted if you need further assistance with this.

    No, there was no need to ask a question to sign up. Conversely, it's also not necessary to sign up to ask a question ^_^ Here are two ways to register for an account:

    Here are important Windows 7 missing/broken features which were working in XP and some were working even in the broken Vista OS. I have tried since 2006 to bring these to the attention of various Windows feature teams through their blogs,
    forums, newsgroups, Windows 7 Beta program on Connect, Windows Feedback Program, newly opened Windows 7 feedback website and even asked customer service for hotfixes but all of them have been largely ignored. How many more years, service packs and
    Windows releases is it going to take to fix XP to Vista issues?
    XP to Vista issues:
    - Shell/Explorer issue: Auto refresh / auto sorting is mandatory making it impossibly difficult to work with many files, especially when they are extracted from archives.
    - Shell/Explorer issue: Can't view size of folders in columns. Previously at least a shell extension called "Folder size" allow that but MS took away the core ability to be able to do that so the shell extension doesn't work any more
    - Shell/Explorer issue: Can't view the icons of 16-bit programs in 32-bit Windows 7 (I know 16-bit is stone age but if they can run, why not show the icons of those EXEs as well?). I can understand 64-bit Windows not showing icons for 16-bit EXEs but 32-bit
    Windows 7 should.
    - Shell/Explorer issue: No advanced file type association settings like Windows XP
    - Shell/Explorer issue: Access to network connection settings (IP address, DNS) status, details, repair, enable/disable is too many clicks away. Of course I can create a shortcut but if I have 2 wireless connections and 2 ethernet, I don't want to create 4
    shortcuts. Earlier XP allowed quick access to these settings depending on which connection was active.
    - Logon issue: I have set my system to auto logon but there are times when I want to log on to a different account, but there's no way in Windows 7 to stop the auto logon from happening. Previously in XP, holding down Shift prevented auto logon so you could
    switch to another user account. Or maybe Windows should have some timer at logon (like it has at startup) to wait for x number of seconds after which it should auto logon
    - Audio issue: I can't hear audio simultaneously from my headphones and from my speakers, or output to another set of speakers installed in the other room the same audio as I am listening to in my computer room
    - Audio issue: I am a big fan of MIDI songs and MIDI music in games so I want to be able to select a better sounding MIDI synthesizer than the ordinary sounding one that Windows 7 comes with by default but I can no longer do that. XP allowed that.
    - Servicing issue: Updates cannot be installed with the progess bar shown but unattended. It's either manual or completely silent without any indication that the MSU update completed or failed.
    - Servicing issue: Can't quickly and easily slipstream hotfixes like XP could using the /integrate switch
    - Shell/Explorer issue: WinSxS takes up too much disk space and Explorer doesn't let me view the correct size (nor any other utility that I know of since no size calculation utility can handle NTFS junction points points)
    - Driver installation issue: Whenever I want to install a custom driver for my hardware, the Plug and Play wizard now first installs its own Microsoft supplied driver or fails to install the driver if it doesn't have one out of the box. Then I have to open
    Device Manager with UAC prompts and start the "Update driver wizard" to install my own driver. In XP, the "Found new hardware" wizard itself had "Have disk" functionality where I could supply the path to my driver on CD.
    - System issue: No in place reinstall of OS to replace some corrupted files. With XP, I could reinstall the OS in-place so the OS would get repaired without my settings getting lost and programs having to be installed all over again
    - System issue: No hardware profiles so I can start my laptop with certain hardware disabled (like 2 NICs-1 wireless, 1 wired), 2 sound cards) depending on what hardware I want to use
    - IIS issue: SMTP and POP3 servers gone from IIS7
    - Management issue: Offline Files can't be automated from command line like one could in XP using CscCmd.exe
    - Power management issue:USB devices don't power off upon "safely removing". Data transfer stops but Windows 7 continues to supply power to USB devices
    - Power management issue: There is no progress bar when hibernating, the screen just turns black
    - Power management issue: Hardware power button can't be set to "Ask me what to do" every single time
    Vista to Windows 7 issues:
    - Shell/Explorer issue: Can't run 32-bit Explorer.exe in 64-bit Windows 7. Vista and XP x64 allowed that. Not all of my shell extensions are 64-bit.
    - Shell/Explorer issue: There used to be a sort bar with column headers for every view in Windows Explorer in Vista. In Windows 7, only details view has it.
    - Shell/Explorer issue: Windows Explorer doesn't remember toolbar positions so I can't unlock toolbars, rearrange them and lock them again. Every time I start Windows Explorer, each toolbar is forced on its own line.
    - Shell/Explorer issue: Auto arrange and Align to Grid in icon views is always on so I can't drag a few files away from a group if I want to work only with them.
    - Shell/Explorer issue: Old Vista style dialog boxes which use the ListView control still have the annoying full row selection in List view which makes it difficult to click in an empty area without making a file get selected. The new Windows 7 style dialogs
    and Windows Explorer doesn't have this annoying issue thankfully though
    - Shell/Explorer issue: If I select files then if I do an Edit menu -> Sort, they get deselected. I have to select them all over again.
    - Shell/Explorer issue: I can't set a background JPEG for folders any more
    - Taskbar issue: Clicking a grouped application's taskbar button or thumbnail when it is active (in the foreground) does not minimize it like it used to happen in XP. Only ungrouped application buttons minimize upon being clicked again. Another feature MS
    probably forgot with grouping.
    - Taskbar issue: Number of combined taskbar windows is not shown on the taskbar
    - Taskbar issue: I can't select taskbar buttons with Ctrl+click and then selectively group maximize or group close
    - Shell/Explorer issue: Advanced Query Syntax for searching has to be remembered. No advanced search GUI so search become easy like Vista
    - Shell/Explorer issue: Game Explorer doesn't allow customizing game shortcuts. Many times I have to add switches to game shortcuts for compatiblity or resolution, it's so annoying!
    - Taskbar issue: No network activity indicator.
    - Shell/Explorer issue: In Windows Explorer, when you group items by category, I can longer Ctrl click on group headers to select entire group. Could do that in Vista.
    - Power management issue: All three power plans (especially combination of Power Saver and High Performance) aren't shown from taskbar's power icons.
    - Missing tool: No equivalent to Meeting Space or NetMeeting which was very useful for screen sharing and conferencing over LAN without internet access
    It's no use whatsoever giving any kind of feedback or comments as I don't see the results of my feedback in service packs or hotfixes. Windows 7 is a wonderful but broken OS. Last non-broken with all functionality intact and working as intended was WinXP.

  • What are the numbers preceding some posted questions

    I tried to seach for this, but nothing came up. What are the numbers I see before some posted questions.

    Is there a link to the Support Community from the KB article that automatically puts the KB number in the new discussion. I couldn't find one. 
    Or does the person creating the discussion manually put the article number in the topic. 
    I now know what the number is, I just don't understand how it gets in the new discussion topic.
