yea.. it looks real. that would be hard to cut and paste each frame into the screen, or to play a movie. you can see the light reflecting off of the screen, and its slightly at an angle (the screen) looks real enough. i wish it ran smoother

I just downloaded Firefox 5 and it said that my Yahoo toolbar will not work with it. Is this true? If so I will not use this new version and will switch to another browser if Firefox stops supporting the Yahoo toolbar. Thank you.

Add-ons contain a range of compatible Firefox versions, and Firefox honors the listed range by disabling the add-on if you are trying to run it on an unlisted version.
I'm sure Yahoo! will update its toolbar eventually, but not every add-on maker supports beta versions of software.

  • I have just bought my first mac and have been told that i can get a free upgrade to lion but it seems that this is only an option in the us and canada, not the uk. is this true?

i have just bought my first mac and have been told in pc world that i can get a free upgrade to lion, but it would appear that this is only for those in the u.s. and canada. is this true? also from reading the discussions it seems that lion is not a good thing. i am already regretting my decision to go to a mac.

I have found that both Linux and Mac (unix) are capable of reading "deep" folders while win 32 will have issues, your it people are clearly wrong.  I run a network with both win/mac. And as long as the win servers/pc's that have shares are set to allow apple file sharing in their folder properties.   And the macs are set to allow smb there should absolutely no trouble with you accessing anything across the platforms, heck, from a Mac to a win pc on some occasions you don't even need to include a "domain" name to log on to, and you can create aliases and make your own shortcuts etc... So you don't have to manually connect each time you boot up etc... But that's all personal preferences I suppose.
All I can tell you is that, I do it on a daily basis managing a small business. So your answer is yes you can.

  • I just heard a news report that there is a problem with malware in mac computers that came through a recent java update. Is this true? If so, what should be done about it?

I just heard a news report that there is a problem with malware in mac computers that came through a recent java update. Is this true? If so, what should be done about it?

As usual those "news" reports mangled the facts and got most of the story completely wrong. This particular attack did not arise through a Java update, it was distributed through a fraudulent Flash download popup window, or malicious websites that Safari is designed to block.
If you run Java on your Mac you may be vulnerable to this malware. If you do not run Java there is no risk. If you routinely keep your Mac up to date with Software Update the risk is greatly reduced.
Shut off the mass market junk that masquerades as "news" and read this to learn some real facts:

  • Hi I have just purchased an iPad 3 and with it I also purchased 1 terabyte of icloud. I was told that this a one off payment for this, no more to pay for ever? Now I see that extra space you pay a yearly subscription?? I s this true in the UK??

Hi I have just purchased an iPad3 and also an extra one terabyte of icloud space! I now see that if you purchase extra space other than the 5g you get free you pay a yearly subscription. I was told by the shop that my terabyte is a one of life time payment, is this true????????????????

What makes you think you bought a terabyte? There is no such storage available - the maximum is 55GB including the fre GB and this costs $100 per year. A terabyte is a huge amount - 1,000 GB - many hard disks are now available at that size, but not online storage.

  • I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008) and am currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I would like to know which is the most stable upgrade for my model. I have read some reviews of Maverick and Yosemite making the older macs slower. Is this true?

I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008), Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHz, 4GB Memory. and am currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
I would like to know which is the most stable upgrade for my model? Mountain Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite?
When I had gone to the apple care centre in India a few months ago to upgrade my OSX to Mountain Lion, I was told that considering my macbook pro's specs, upgrading it would just make it less efficient, and that I should stick to Snow Leopard unless I consider buying a newer mac that would benefit from it. Is this true? I find it a bit hard to believe. Which update is most recommended?
I also notice that my mac has gotten considerably slower. While using chrome, it buffers and struggles with even just 5 tabs open. Could this have something to do with my current ios? As a precaution, I have always been making sure I have enough free space on disk i.e around 70 - 100 free out of 250GB.
    Any advice is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Mavericks is no longer available from the App Store, so your choice is Yosemite. One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install the new OS, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won't have to go though the revert process.

  • If you pay Apple to repair a cracked iPod Touch 4g is it true they just replace it with a refurbished one?

I have a refurbished 8GB iPod Touch 4G that I bought December 2012. There's a crack on the bottom that goes across the home button, but if I have a good case on it doesn't show.. There's some small cracks on the screen. I can't touch anything on the bottom right corner such as the history and the tabs on Safari. I can get around this, but it's not very convenient. Apple charges $99 to fix the screen for an iPod Touch 4g right? I was thought about going to some third party, but decided against that idea. And I'm not going to try to fix it myself. I read that they just give you a refursbished iPod is this true? Would it be worth it to pay $99 for them to fix the screen? Because I'm thinking about saving my money for the next iPod Touch whenever it comes outs.

The $99 exchaxge price is for an 8, 16 or 32 GB 4G. It is $199 for the 64 GB 4G.
They exchange it, not fix yours

  • Is this true?? NTSC dvd projects will play in PAL players

    From The "Unofficial" imovie FAQ
    http://www.danslagle.com/mac/iMovie/tips_tricks/6017.shtml
    States:
The good news is: You can just send an NTSC disc. Any PAL set top DVD player capable of playing DVD-R discs can also play NTSC discs. All that is needed is a fairly new TV, built in the last 8-10 years or so.
So is this true? I can send my project made in idvd to a country that uses PAL and my NTSC project will play?
    Thank you for your time.

my Sony TV is 12 years old and does accept the "strange" signal, my DVDplayer (and multinorm VHSplayer) offers while NTSC playback... (colorful pix, stereo audio)
..This has been VERY helpful. ..

  • Is this true about PS2 devices?

I just got a new computer. I don't know a lot about hardware, etc.
    The Mainboard I got is an MSI K8N Neo4 S 939
My PS2 devices are not working and the guy who sold me the computer told me that by unplugging the mouse and keyboard while the system was running, I may have shorted out the board.
    Is this true?

Quote from: MGP on 18-December-05, 13:04:44
It is possible that you shorted the keyboard controller, generally you can hot swap keyboard and mouse but some MB like the NEO versions are very sensitive to
I take it by your post that none of your PS2 ports are working, if this is the case then I would guess that the PS2 controller on the MB is shot.
So... if I have indeed shot my PS2 controller on the MB, what can be done? Is this repairable? Do you think it could potentially cause other problems for me? I am using USB devices now but am concerned about future problems due to this happening.
Also, do you think this should be covered under the 1 year warranty the shop gave me?
    Thanks,
    Charles

  • Is this true? "iTunes 7 will do CD-Text, but only with certain models of CD

My friend told me the following. Is this true?
"iTunes 7 will do CD-Text, but only with certain models of CD burners."

Probably not - although this comes only from personal experiance and not any technical knowlage. I always purchase cd's based on conviniance and not brand. Also spend my life between Europe and North America and have never encontered any cd that would not work - aside occasional lemons.
Hope this helps - just remember this is an experiance based reply.

  • I changed my passwords on the sites I frequent on my macbook pro but was told I would have to change passwords on my iPad and iPhone as well. Is this true.

I changed my passwords on the sites I frequent  on my macbook pro. Since doing that I have been informed that I would have to do the same thing with my ipad and iphone too. Is this true? Not sure I understand why. Do I just change it to the same password on each?

Any password for an internet site is managed by this site's system. Your device only provides an access to this site.
So if you change password from any device, you'll have to provide your new password for this site, whatever device you use for connection.

  • H.264 Blu Ray will play in most players, H.264 will not. Is this true?

I was told that the H.264 is a universal format, but to make it play to Blu-Ray standards for players you must use H.264 Blu-ray.  If not, it may not play in all Blu- Ray type players . The same goes for MPEG-2 Vs. MPEG-2 DVD.
    Is this true?
    Thanks in advance
    Premiere Pro CS 5.5
    Encore 5.5
    Media Encoder 5
    Power Mac Intel Xeon
    10GB RAM

to phrase the answer another way...
h.264 for Bluray is a subset of the full h.264 standard.
Why? Because it has constrictions on it so that the bluray player's silicon-chip h.264 decoder doesn't have to be overly complicated (thus cheaper)..
So, while a non bluray h.264 stream MAY play on a bluray player, it isn't EXPECTED too.
As an example - if you compare the h.264 to the h.264 bluray columns you'll see that h.264 has "Levels" 3.0...5.2 but BR only has a subset of those. Likewise for the "Profile" and Screen Resolutions @ specific FrameRates.
Note that both are h.264/AVC encodings, it's just that the BD version is allows far less combinations of settings.
