Is this what to expect from two WRE54G Range Extenders I've installed?

I bought a WRE54G Range Extender for home use with a WRT54G router at my home. My laptop and iPhone had poor signal strength in the room at the opposite end of the house from the router. I set everything up, it seemed to work ok, so I bought another one to do the same thing at work.
Now that I've had a couple of weeks of trying to use the Range Extenders with several iPhone and several laptops, including 3 hours on the phone with Linksys Support (Level 2) yesterday, I'm disappointed with my results. I'm having the same problem on both systems in both locations, configured for both the Linksys and the Fortinet wireless routers. Here's what I'm getting.
If I start a laptop or an iPhone within range of the router, I join the network fine. Then if I carry the device closer to the Range Extender, the signal becomes stronger after a minute or two and my problem is solved. But then the device loses the network signal after 3-10 minutes, regains it, but now I don't get an IP address, so I can't do anything. The only way to get back on the network is to carry the device back to the router, reconnect, then carry the device back to near the Range Extender. At my house the Range Extender is now about 25 feet from the router. At the office it's about 70 feet away.
On one of my laptops at home, if the laptop is connected via wi-fi with medium signal strength, when I turn on the Range Extender, within a couple of seconds the laptop gets knocked off the wi-fi altogether. Then it shows it's connected but either has 0.0.0.0 for an IP address of 169.x.x.x. Usually the only way to get that laptop to work is to power off the Range Extender.
On my iPhone I've got a wireless diagnostic application. From it I can see all the wi-fi signals, a couple of low strength ones from neighbors. I've got my network on an unused channel. Both the router and the range extender are set with the same channel, security settings, etc. They both show up with the same name.
Should I be able to connect to the Range Extender instead of having to connect to the router first, then move to the Range Extender? Is it normal to keep losing signal every 3-10 minutes? I've never had any of this trouble with the router, only with the Range Extender.
Maybe I need a different device and the Range Extender is not supposed to do what I'm trying to do. Anyone got any experiences or ideas to share?
Solved!

As you have mentioned in the Post that the Distance between the Router and the Range Expander is about 70 Feet. Well you can try to reduce the Distance between the Router and the Range Expander, you can make it upto 40 to 50 feet and then check if you are able to get connected to your wireless network.

  • Engineer no show - Is this what to expect from BT?

So I'm a disgruntled Virgin Media user and hoped (god hoped) that BT would be able to give me a stable connection. I'm not fussed about having the fastest speeds in the world 40/10 is more than enough (currently on 50Mbps cable).
So, virgin media cancelled and ordered BT Inifinity. Install date was today, and no one has showed up. I've taken the day off from work and its now been confirmed that BT are having "staffing issues" but not so bad they couldn't answer the phone after I request to know what is going on. So, would it be so hard for a company to contact all of the poeples installs who couldn't be done today so maybe they could make the most of their day off rather than sitting around waiting for no one to turn up.
I'm not interested in some pointless statement about how the product is provided by a different firm, how BT have to put orders into openreach etc...
Is there someone out there who can sort out my details to that you have my correct email address int the system and so that I can have my copy of the contract.
    Unhappy.

Dont expect a speedy result mate. I have been waiting for 6 weeks to get a competent engineer out to put right what the first one bodged!! Ive talked to 15 people, put in 3 official complaints and still getting nowhere! It seems that BT India cant actually talk to BT Openreach, even tho they are part of the same umbrella! It has to be done by email, and we all know how easy they get lost! Also we as customers are not allowed to talk to Openreach ourselves, so in a nutshell, dont get your hopes up for quick result! x

  • What is expected from a two year experience ABAPer

    Hi guys,
After working in ABAP for one year... what will be the expected experience from a two years experience ABAPer?
I have three years of experience in .NET and one year experience in ABAP.
I have finished my training a year ago in ABAP.
    Any suggestion?
    William Wilstroth

    Hello William,
This is a rather difficult question, due to it's highly subjective nature. What an employer wants is something that cannot really be predicted.
some of them might want very strong skills in SAP Script and SMARTFORMS, while they really may not care if you have not worked on BDC. Some may want very good knowledge about the BADI and User-Exits concepts, while they don't mind if you are not familiar with LSMW, for instance.
If you're looking for a job, then please read the job requirements carefully. That is the best source for the kind of information you're seeking.
    Regards,
    Anand Mandalika.

  • I've installed 10.8.1 on new MBP w/ retina display and battery starts at 8 hr charge and drops to 7 hr in just 30 minutes of run time. This is not what I expected from Apple!!

I've installed 10.8.1 on new MBP w/ retina display. Fully charged battery shows 8 hrs at 100% then drops to 7 hrs after only 1/2 hr of use. I was hoping that 10.8.1 would have fixed a obviously well publicized defect.

Sorry pal, not this time.  The release notes for 10.8.1 do not discuss anything about battery issues.  I do know Apple is aware of the problem thought and are working on a fix, hopefully in the forthcoming 10.8.2.

  • Brand New iMac Won't Turn On - What To Expect From Support?

    Hello,
I've been wanting to purchase an iMac for about a year now. Unfortunately I'm destitute, so puchasing this was a huge deal. I finally absolutely had to order it after using a PowerBook for two weeks that I have to plug an ancient monitor into, and recently I've had to use the track pad, inverted, as the one USB port fried and I have to position the laptop a certain way because of how I run the cables.
Anyway... today felt like Christmas. Such a beautiful computer. I installed World of Warcraft, ripped a few CDs onto iTunes and then randomly, "fzzt." I knew it was bad... it sounded like something "blew" and, sure enough, it won't shut on.
I've tried everything possible and I'm pretty sure it's the motherboard or power supply. I'm obviously incredibly upset, but to soothe myself until I can call phone support in the morning I'm wondering... what should I expect with this experience? I purchased through Amazon, but I'm assuming that doesn't matter. Will I get a new computer since this was obviously a lemon, or will they refurb mine? Will they retain my HD? How long does this usually take? I need this for work, which is most worrying. Kind of feel like crying. Is it okay to cry, and how hard? Do I have to send my pretty little mouse and keyboard back, too?

Hi I am a totally new mac user myself, how did the WoW install go, Im swithcing from a PC to an Imac? and I have been playing WoW since vanilla, so Im quite apprehensive about the change.
Should I expect the same problems, my Mac's are being delivered next week some time?

  • What to expect from a new build I'm planning

I have a basic "opinion" or "guess" question, please.
I'm planning a new build at some point and have to make a decision on when to take the financial plunge. In a few months, funds will be better, but I can manage the cost now if the speed improvements will be worth it. Speed improvements mean time which means money.
I'm running a small business producing videos for ourselves for business presentations (marketing and fund-raising) using Premiere Pro, outputting to FLV and DVD.
My content is pretty simple: video footage (talking head) from a camcorder, with two more tracks for titles and Photoshop images, with dip-to-black transitions. Soon I'll have my video guru provide some 3D animations that will also be included.
Until now, I've been capturing my footage into an interlaced project where I cut the raw footage into usable pieces. Then, I output those pieces to AVI, which I then run through a routine in Virtual Dub with presets my guru provided me with to take care of noise reduction and deinterlacing. Then, I import that resultant AVI (or set of AVIs) to a progressive project where I finish my editing and add the additional tracks with the titles, images and transitions.
Then, I output that to AVI, and convert those AVIs to FLV and/or use Encore to create DVD images.
The main concern I have is the very long wait times when I output to AVI from Premiere, process with Virtual Dub, and output to DVD image from Encore. (Of course, reduction in any wait time adds up, too.)
So, I have to try to guess at what kind of time I'll save when doing those tasks (and across overall working time) once I build the new machine. That will help me decide on whether to build the new machine now or later, based on the financial criteria.
I currently own an HP workstation, but it will not support the new Fermie CUDA cards. I want to use a GTX-470 (or -480). This is the pivotal issue that requires I build a new machine. Until then, I’m not using the CS5 MPE-CUDA features. What I don't know is how much time it will really save me on those major time-consuming tasks when I do make the jump.
One important consideration may lie in the fact that, accoring to my video guru, one of the advantages of the way Premiere CS5 plays well together with the approved CUDA cards is that it does GPU-based deinterlacing. He's suggesting this should may save me the time of having to do it in Virtual Dub phase (I'm not sure what he suggests about the noise reduction -- I think he may have commented that it may no longer be unnecessary, though to me it has seemd to make a huge improvement).
(Note: I see there are still some bugs in CS5 that hamper the benefits for now. For instance, I've read that there's an issue with CS5 whereby it takes a long time to export to AVI, and that there's a compromise with DV on an external monitor, but I don't know that those are issues in my decision since the former is going to exist regardless of whether I do the new build and the latter probably doesn't even apply to me.)
Here are my two system configurations, the "before and after," that I want to compare or, rather, to please ask for some guesses about as to potential time savings. Maybe I should call them the "Current" and "New build."
    CURRENT:
    - HP z400 machine -- mid-tower (no room for cooling a Fermie card)
    - CPU: Xeon quad-core 4-thread
    - RAM: 8MB DDR2
    - GPU: nVidia FX-580 (obviously won't support new benefits of CS5 the way the GTX-470/480 in the new build will)
    - DRIVES: one HD for OS/apps, one HD for swap, and three HDs in a RAID-5 array for data
    NEW BUILD:
    - high-end full-tower case with plenty of cooling support
    - MOBO: ASUS P6X58D
    - CPU: i7 930 (maybe OCd a bit, or maybe 980x)
    - RAM: 12GB DDR3 triple-channel
    - GPU: nVidia GTX-470 (or maybe 480)
    - DRIVES: either same as current system, or maybe going to five drives in a RAID-3 array for data
I'd be hugely grateful for any guesses as to how much time in the major encoding tasks (and in overall work time) the new build is likely to save me.
    Thanks so much!
    Jay

    Bill Gehrke wrote:
Jay, I wonder about this statement of yours "I currently own an HP workstation, but it will not support the new Fermie CUDA cards". How did you come to that conclusion?
    Hi Bill,
Well, I make that assertion after a huge amount of time lost trying to make it work.
(See my posts July 16 and July 18th in this thread for the longer version of my excursion: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2945538#2945538)
The GTX-470 calls for at least 550W of power, The HP z400 workstation comes with 475W and it's a proprietary power supply. It won't take a standard ATX PSU -- the screw holes won't line up and even its pin-out for the system power plug is custom.
Undaunted, I bought a Corsair HX750W power supply and placed it outside of the machine on the floor, and used it solely to power the GPU.
I put the GTX-470 in and left the case cover off while familiarizing myself with Windows 7 for a couple days, but when I came into the office the third say the machine was locked up and the GPU was scorching hot. All fans on all components seemed to be working fine.
(I also noticed that the onboard sound never installed and there was no sound, and that the Sound, video and game controllers section in Device Manager only had four instances of "NVIDIA High Definition Audio." HP tech support was at a loss. My video guru says those drivers are probably normal from the GTX-470 card, but nobody could explain why the mother board considered that a replacement for the onboard sound. We don't know if that was a sign of imperfect compatibility between the GPU and mother board, which seems feasible since I had already learned -- the hard way after days of work -- that the mother board was at least a little custom in that the PSU was custom even at the system plug.)
So, when I had come that mornign and found the machine locked and the GPU super hot, I expermimented by cooling the machine down with a huge 12" external fan, then rebooted. For the next fifteen hours I waited to see if it would again heat up and lock up (or was it "lock up then heat up"?) and put more load on it by playing an AVI in WMP full-screen a number of times. For those fifteen hours the system ran fine and GPU stayed somewhere between cool and only very moderately warm.
Nobody has had a reason why it had ended up with the machine locked and the GTX-470 resulted scorching hot.
Bad GPU? Insufficient cooling? (Which maybe caused the system board to lock down the machine... which caused it to keep the GPU going with insufficient fan power???) Incompatibility between the GPU and system board? (Which had caused it to lock up the GPU in "on" mode and thus get scorching hot?)
And the consensus among those who thought it was a cooling issue was "almost" unanimous in saying that just running it with the case cover on would not be enough to keep the GPU reliably below the necessary cooling threshold, especially since I hadn't even begun to put a real load on it (I hadn't even installed Premiere on the machine yet).
And, it seemed evident to me that trying to creatively pack the machine with fans and cooling was just not realistic. If it is, I'd like to know, since that would be a lot cheaper than building a $5,000 machine. Here's a picture of the machine with the GTX-470 in it: www.silver100.com/x/z400_GTX-470.JPG.
Of course, all the cooling in the world still wouldn't help if the problem was compatibility with the system board.
You'll notice I got no responses at that other thread when I asked what the "guess" was as to the cause. So, I figured that -- short of it being a bad GPU -- building a new machine was the only way to fix it if it was a cooling problem and the only way to fix it if it was a compatibility problem.
I'm sure anxious to hear your thoughts.
    Thanks so much!

  • If the battery swell up thrice , what is expected from the company?

The Battery in my laptop has been replaced twice and this is the third time the battery has swollen up.
Since the first time it was swollen I have asked the reason but Apple has not come up with a reason and just replaced it.
Second time also the service centre replaced the battery but were unable to give me a reason.
I had asked them to replace the laptop as this has been happening repeatedly and seems to be something with the laptop
otherwise why should every battery they put swell ?
This is the third time this has happened. And now they refuse to replace the battery or the laptop also.
    What is the solution?

I had iCloud installed, and it was working, then I wanted to increase font size in the notes section of Calendar.  I read to uninstall iCloud and reinstall iCloud and it would be fixed.
Once I reinstalled iCloud it did not show up in Microsoft Office 2010 - Calendar or Contacts.........which it had previous to the uninstall.
When I sync it errors.  I am at my wits end trying to sync this, and it just keeps erroring. I am not syncing phots/photo stream, just contacts and calendar.
Please can anyone tell me what setting I have to change??

Needed to add some clarification here:
iCloud shows me as signed in, but Calendars are NOT checked
Internet Accounts shows Calendars as syncing

  • Slow Performance Expected from Beta Release?

LR3 runs like a dream on my machine.  However, the Develop module in LR4 is quite sluggish - the sliders take a few seconds before the changes are visible.
Is this to be expected from a beta release, or is LR4 realy that much more resource-intensive?

Hi everyone. I both a Mac Pro 15" in March 2009. Five month ago I  was forced to buy by one new hard drive and extent the memory, because I had to make the upgrade (and pay) to install the new Lion operation system. Four days ago the Mother-board fails. To change it will cost a fortune. What should I do or expect from Apple to solve this problem? I am very disappointed because my trust on Apple was destroyed.

I am not sure why you are upset with Apple. Electronics equipment does fail. If the product is out of warranty or you do not have AppleCare there's not much you can do with Apple. Apple will charge you for the repair. Suggest you look for a third party repair store since they are usually less expensive than Apple. Alternatively you can buy one for about $850US and install it yourself. Sorry, but there aren't many choices in this situation.

I have totally "uninstalled" what I had and then reinstalled the newest
    version of itunes.  Still......
First, when I click on the itunes icon to load it takes the program anywhere
from two to three minutes to load.  None of my other programs take this
    long.
When in the itunes program I can be moving around in my library and itunes
when choosing a song or songs, choosing file, edit, etc,. whatever command I
choose it just suddenly stops.  I can issue five commands and watch each one
respond in 30 second to two minute intervals.  I can issue several commands,
even shutting down, and it will do all but takes several minutes to do so.
My itunes program was working fine when this problem suddenly arose.
    Terry

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • DSL working poorly, is this what is to be expected?

I've had Verizon DSL internet for several years now.  As my family has added more computers and devices and started using the internet more, we have had more and more issues with our service.  If 3 or 4 of us are all using computers or some devices with wifi at once, especially if someone is streaming video, the router tends to freeze up and has to be reset (shut off and back on) before everything will work again.  Sometimes we've had to do this several times in a day.  Now I just got an Ipad Air at Christmas, and it likes to randomly drop my wifi connection.  My router is fine and the wifi isn't down, it just drops the connection and I have to connect again.  I don't think it is an issue with the Ipad, because I've spent time at other locations (including several days at my in-laws where they have internet through their cable provider), and I haven't had a problem like this anywhere outside of my own house.  Is there something I can do to fix this?  Is this the best I can expect out of DSL?  I'd love to switch to FIOS, but it isn't offered in my area.  I'm ready to switch to Comcast if this doesn't improve.

Step one: Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that your non-bogan public IP Address will show up.  It might shown up as the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace)  might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Either remove that line or show only the first two octets. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.
For example this what I saw when I was using Verizon
    news.giganews.com
traceroute to 71.242.*.* (71.242.*.*), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
        1 gw1-g-vlan201.dca.giganews.com (216.196.98.4) 13 ms 13 ms 13 ms

        6 static-71-242-*-*.phlapa.east.verizon.net (71.242.*.*) 32 ms 32 ms 33 ms
Step two: Can you provide the Transceiver Statistics from your modem?
#3 If you don't know how to get that info:
    a) What is the brand and model of your modem?
    b) If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to it: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?
#4 If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to the modem, even if you know how to get the Transceiver Statistics from the modem: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?
If you are the original poster (OP) and your issue is solved, please remember to click the "Solution?" button so that others can more easily find it. If anyone has been helpful to you, please show your appreciation by clicking the "Kudos" button.

I've copied my itunes library onto an external hard drive.  Is there any way I can do this and delete songs from my PC without also deleting from the external drive? Already lost two songs!!!  I just want a back up - using a work PC and don't want others accessing my songs.  Hope someone can help.  Thanks!

I see. To get a better idea of what is being stored where please download and run the script iTunesInfo which should output something like this:
I'm interested in the block of 4 results starting ITL location. If your profile name shows up somewhere replace it with <Name>.  It is also worth checking under Edit > Preferences > Advanced to see where iTunes thinks your media is supposed to go. My script estimates the setting based on the location of the first media file it can actually find.

  • MPB 17" and what Adobe RGB color space coverage I might expect from it

    Hello,
I am photographer and currently PC user. However, I plan to dive to the Mac’s world.
Before I become a Mac user, I have few questions.
Now I think about MacBook Pro 17”, i7 2.66MHz, 8GB RAM, 500 GB 7200rpm HDD and antiglare screen.
I plan to use additional monitor for photo editing.
I did search on google about *NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M* and *Adobe RGB color space* it covers, however, it gave me no results related to Mac. The only information about this card and Adobe colors I found is that Sony Vaio use this graphic card and in some forums, one say it covers 98% and in other 100% of Adobe color space which made me wonder what type of screen Vaio have.
    - is MacBook Pro 17” good for photo editing?
    - what % of AdobeRGB color space I might expect from it on my external screen or what % of sRGB colors space it delivers?
    - Is it possible to calibrate Mac’s native screen and external one, use both at the time and have different profiles on each?
    - Tell me anything that would stop me thinking about MBP for photo editing?
Thank you for your time reading this and hope to find the answers here.

You should consider posting your questions in the Pro Application section for Aperture. You will bump into more photographers there than you will here. But I will make an attempt at answers:
    whats about Adobe color space?
No, the MBP screen will not encompass the Adobe Color Space. In fact, few desktop monitors are capable of this.
does the native MBP screen display full color range the video card is able to produce...
There really is no limit to the color extremes, which define a color space, as established by a graphics card. So your question is not a well formed question. An old ATI Rage card with 8-bit output would reveal the same color gamut as would the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M connected to the same display. The gamut is determined by the attached display, not the graphics card.
...or connecting external monitor to it’s mini display port would bring much wider color range to my eyes?
Yes, certainly the potential for that exists. Notebook screens are usually a compromise and can't be expected to compete with a high-end desktop display in many categories, including color gamut. But whether it would bring a "much wider color range to" your eyes is hard to say. It depends on what type of external display is in use.

I would like to remove a short gray edge from two images. I need help in that I am not yet able to use PhotoShop. Could somebody kindly help me with this?

I doubt it Doc Maik, but I am certainly happy to learn The image is this one (and a similar one). They would be beautiful portraits if not for the "extra mouth". The grey edge that I would like to remove is the excess of (grey) mouth that is actually my horse's chin, but that in the pictures looks like a wider, looping mouth. Practically, looking at the picture, the "extra mouth" to the left. What I would love it to be able correct that to look like a normal mouth, which means that half of the protruding edge should be removed. I am not sure I was able to explain myself, but here is one of the two pictures. I thank you for you kindness in being available to advise me.
