Is timed capturing possible?

I have a number of VHS tapes that I need to digitize.  Ideally, I'd like to digitize them at night after I've left my office.  Is it possible in Premiere CS4 to capture a preset amount of time?  Otherwise it would keep capturing long after the tape is over.
J. D.

No preset, it will usualy keep capturing until the tape is finished even when the end off the tape is black/blanc. That is when e.g. a camera is used as a av-dv device. The vhs tape does not have a timecode.
But if you are capturing to dv-avi, then put the avi on the timeline cut off the black and export it to dv-avi.
There will be a generation loss but not noticeble.

  • Screen Capture Possible?

    Is it at all possible to do a screen capture of the iPhone's screen without hacking the phone? I want to do something like they do with the MacWorld Keynote and the commercials where they just display the video output on a different screen. I am wanting to make some tutorials on the iphone and it would be pretty nice to just record the screen as I navigate around. Thanks in advance for your reply(s),

  • CS3 - KWorld DVD Maker USB2.0 Capture Possible?

    Just wanted to know if it's possible to capture in Premiere Pro CS3 through USB.  I have a Sony SLV-N700 VHS Video Cassette Recorder (remember those) and it is connected to my computer via RCA plugs to a KWorld DVD Maker USB2.0 Analog to Digital Converter, and out of this device to my PC via USB and Audio plugs.  Is this even possible to capture in PP or am I wasting my time trying.  I'm using Windows Vista and can capture through Windows Movie Maker and then just import those files into Premiere.
    Thanks!!!

    As Harm notes, Capture is ONLY via FW. This ARTICLE will give you some tips.
    Good luck,

  • Is a rolling capture possible?

    I have a need to capture traffic between a lync server and a file server to troubleshoot an issue we are seeing. But we really only need 1 hour of traffic at any time.
    Is it possible to setup Message Analyzer to only keep 1 hour worth of captured traffic? Or if possible export a cap file every hour.
    I should note that this is on a Server 2008 R2 VM, not Server 2012.

    Yes, you can use Powershell to create a circular script.  Look at this blog for some helpful details:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/messageanalyzer/archive/2013/10/29/using-powershell-to-automate-tracing.aspx.
    You should be able to use Save-PefDataCollection with a Time trigger to get it to save once an hour.  This example saves a backup every minute from the Win8.1 driver.  For your example, you'd use Microsoft-PEF-NDIS-PacketCapture.
    $t = New-PefTimeSpanTrigger -TimeSpan (New-TimeSpan -Seconds 60) -Repeat
    $s = New-PefTraceSession -Mode Circular -Path c:\users\paul\documents\tmptrace -SaveOnStop -Force
    $s | Add-PefMessageProvider -Provider "Microsoft-Windows-NDIS-PacketCapture"
    $s | Save-PefDataCollection -Path c:\users\paul\documents\1min -Force -Trigger $t
    $s | Start-PefTraceSession
    This overwrites the same file, which I think we can improve moving forward.  But you could write another script, in the meanwhile, to move the file once a new one appears if you need some automatic.

  • Anyone have a script or program allowing timed Capture for FCP or iMovie?

    I work with a broadcaster who wants to automatically record programs in FCP or iMovie in the DV mode either in FCP or iMovie. EyeTV 2 has a great system for setting up any mac to automatically record programs direct from a satellite feed or cable box, but unfortunately it compresses the video as it captures it to its own proprietary format. (30 minutes = about 3 GB) I really need to capture without any compression, and ideally that should be in FCP. Anyone seen a script or a plug in that would launch Log and Capture and begin capturing for a specific time, UNATTENDED? (The unattended part is key since we need to capture a number of satellite programs in the wee hours of the morning when we have not staff on hand).

    Might.
    Try over in their forum. You just may get lucky.
    I do remember the good Capt Mench posted something like this a while back but my feeble brain seems leaky today.
    something about using iCal scheduling & alerts along with apple scripts might be able to get you what you want ...

  • Network Connection Timed out - possible solution here

    Like many others I have been using iTunes with no problem then suddenly I got this message. I could access iTunes store and all my music but I could not log into my account or view my shopping cart where there was lots of music that I had put on one side ready to buy later. This happened after an iTunes update to 8.2 and an Internet Explorer update to version 8, so I guess the issue is with one or both of these new programmes. I tried all the advice from other users - the ie settings, proxy, firewall, flush etc but nothing worked for me. I use Windows xp. Eventually I found a simple solution which might help if you are having a similar problem.
    Click - 'Start' - 'control panel' - 'add or remove programmes'
    scroll down the list until you find itunes
    in the options bottom right (change/remove) click 'change'
    A new window will appear giving you the option - repair or remove
    click 'repair'
    Windows reinstalls itunes and looks for any missing or damaged files.
    After i did this my itunes worked again.
    Good luck!!!!!

    Your antivirus / firewall software is interfering with the update process. Disable it.

  • Can you batch capture with Final Cut Express?

    I'm new to Mac and FCE,
    I'm used to running through my dv marking in and out points to create a batch and then hitting capture at the end and the computer rewinds and captures each in/out point. At this point, I usually start editing pics, etc for the video on another machine (videos are very short turnaround time).
    Is this type of batch capture possible with final cut or does the user actually have to wait while the video is captured or better yet go to the end of each out point only to have the tape rewind for each clip captured. Seems like a very inefficient way of doing, so i'm guessing I am just unaware of how to do it. Please give me the steps if possible and of course all help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,

    This is very irritating. The more I get into the Mac side of video the more I think I have been sold a bill of goods. Mac seems to be good for lots of stuff, but I have to say that iMovie and Final Cut Express seem to lack some pretty basic functionality found in Windows software like Ulead MSP.
    I even asked this specific question to the Apple store personnel and they guaranteed me that batch capture is possible on FCE.
    I have to ask myself at this point why am I considering paying 900.00 for FCP when a 300 dollar Windows Program does the same thing. I guess live and learn, but it sure helps when people tell the truth and don't make stuff up when they don't understand it.
    I am very disappointed at all the Mac video hype I have yet to see the wonders.
    Thanks for the reply,

  • Remote capture with eos digital rebel xt

    Is remote capture possible with windows 8 and the EOS Digital Rebel XT?

    There is no Windows 8 driver available for Canon EOS Rebel XT, as far as I am aware of. However, there is a Windows Vista driver available on the Cannon Support websites. Try downloading it and installing it in Windows Vista compatibility mode and and see if it makes the EOS Utility work. If it does you should be able to remote shoot with a USB cable.
    I have not tried my old XT with Win 7 or 8 but this may do the trick.

  • Why does neither Grab nor Snapshot capture entire window?

    Grab application offers four capture options-selection, screen, window or timed capture-however none of these capture the entire window. They only capture what is shown within parameters of the current screen. Using Snapshot yields the same result. How can the entire window be captured, including the portion extending below the current screen?

    A window is a display port within the bounds of the screen. The application gets the displayed window bounds from the OS and renders it's content that should appear within those bounds. While a document may have content that would extend beyond the window bounds, the app "clips" that content to what the user can see within the window.

  • Measuring performance of EJBs

    Hi,
    I am interested in measuring the performance of my beans. I realize that "performance" by itself is rather generic. To be very specific, I want to measure the time taken by my EJB to perform a database activity. For example, how does the update of my CMP bean compare with a JDBC call from a BMP bean ?
    Is the capture of such timing data possible from the affected bean itself ? I thought of using AOP for this but ran into issues which caused me to dump that approach.
    Are there any tools available which can be used to capture such data - even from a client perspective ?
    Thanks

    try:
    http://www.jamonapi.com it can measure JSP, SErvlets, EJB and more
    but just for EJB it is maybe better write own tool, it can not be so difficult.
    System.currentMillis(); at the begginig and end might be easiest and maybe best
    performance tool.
    Point not to slow donw process be measuring tool itself.

  • How to get the thread a sequence plays on?

    Hi, this is sort of a continuation of an earlier question... I have a sequence that plays back with imperfect timing. I would like to 'get a hold' of the thread that it plays back on in order to check / change its priority, etc.
    But a Sequencer is an interface; and it is gotten from the MidiSystem, which is also an interface. I am stumped as how to go about accessing the Java Sound Sequencer thread which does in fact get created by my program when I get a Sequencer from the MidiSystem.
    An excellent suggestion was given to me to extend Sequencer, then use the Thread.getCurrentThread() on my "MySequencer" object. To get a Sequencer, you call MidiSystem.getSequencer() - I can't figure out how to get a "MySequencer" (object that extends Sequencer) rather than a Sequencer from the MidiSystem.
    So, to be clear, my question is - Is there a way to get a reference to the thread that a sequence plays back on?
    Forgive me if this is a boneheaded question... I should have taken more Java classes back when I was in school...
    Thanks

    You think the GUI should be sluggish and keyboard and mouse capture delayed so someone can hear Fur Elise with precise timing as they laggingly scroll through a JTable with their mouse while waiting a few seconds for button clicks to occur?YES! That's ABSOLUTELY what I am suggesting. In none of my previous posts have I said or even suggested that the MIDI file was to be playing in the background have I? This program is about real time music recording and playback. Live, that is.* In front of an audience*. If a midi burp were OK with me, I would not have been pursuing this, would I? Everything I have posted is in relation to the timing needs I have for this program. I don't care if the flippin' screen goes blank, if the MIDI timing is good.
    OK?
    Briefly: The program has two main ... uh.. use cases. First, the GUI is used to pre-program which clips are to played where. This is not done in real time, so I am indifferent to any consideration of timing. It is mainly for this that I use the JTable. But in the Second case, when the play button is hit, the sequence plays and the clips are triggered according to what was previously been entered int the JTable. This sequence plays a drum track which I play along with. The sequence also triggers the clips to be played (via MetaMessages) which have to be to be in time with everything else - or else the program is utterly useless. So I hope you can see that at this point, the GUI doesn't really matter that much, but the timing of the MIDI sequence is crucial.
    I agree with you that perfect midi timing might not be all that important for everyone. But here's a quote from the Java Sound tutorial:
    "The Java Sound API does not include sophisticated sound editors or graphical tools, but it provides capabilities upon which such programs can be built."
    Surely Sun would not expect application designers to go to the trouble of building such programs if the Java Sound API was designed to deliver flawed Midi timing at best? Am I mistaken in thinking that stable Midi timing is possible? From all that I have read over at the Java Sound Resources web site it seems that not everybody suffers from bad MIDI timing.

  • Using asynchronous timer for data flow control

    Hi all,
      I am using system sleep to control the data flow (some digital lines and analog output). The pseudo code is something like this
    Sleep(150);
    // the following sections are exectuted in parallel
      #pragma omp parallel sections
        #pragma omp section
          DAQmxWriteDigitalLines(...); // output TTL to one digitla line
        #pragma omp section
          DAQmxWriteDigitalLines(...); // output TTL to another digitla line
        #pragma omp section
          Sleep(2); // sleep 2ms
    // the following sections are exectuted in parallel
      #pragma omp parallel sections
        #pragma omp section
          DAQmxWriteDigitalLines(...); // output TTL to one digitla line
        #pragma omp section
          DAQmxWriteAnalogScalarF64(...); // analog output to one channel
        #pragma omp section
          Sleep(1); // delay 1ms
    // the following sections are exectuted in parallel
      #pragma omp parallel sections
        #pragma omp section
          DAQmxWriteDigitalLines(...); // output TTL to one digitla line
        #pragma omp section
          DAQmxWriteAnalogScalarF64(...); // analog output to one channel
    #pragma omp section
          DAQmxWriteAnalogScalarF64(...); // analog output to another channel
        #pragma omp section
          Sleep(11); // delay 11ms
    // ... other stuffs
    I am running windows XP and I know it is not possible to get realtime control but  I want a as precise timing as possible. Above code is not perfect but it works 95% of times. I just read an article about using the asynchronous timer to control the time delay. I try that idea with the following code frame
    int CVICALLBACK ATCallback(int reserved, int timerId, int event, void *callbackData, int eventData1, int eventData2)
    if (event==EVENT_TIMER_TICK)
    int *nextdelay = (int *)callbackData;
    SuspendAsyncTimerCallbacks();
    if (timerId>=0)
    double time;
    if (*nextdelay==0) time=2.0;
    else if (*nextdelay==1) time=1.0;
    else time=12.0;
    SetAsyncTimerAttribute(timerId, ASYNC_ATTR_INTERVAL, time);
    if (*nextdelay==0)
    #pragma omp parallel sections
    #pragma omp section
    DAQmxWriteDigitalLines(...); // output TTL to one digitla line
    #pragma omp section
    DAQmxWriteDigitalLines(...); // output TTL to another digitla line
    *nextdelay++;
    else if (*nextdelay==2)
    #pragma omp parallel sections
    #pragma omp section
    DAQmxWriteDigitalLines(...); // output TTL to one digitla line
    #pragma omp section
    DAQmxWriteAnalogScalarF64(...); // analog output to one channel
    *nextdelay++;
    else if (*nextdelay==3)
    #pragma omp parallel sections
    #pragma omp section
    DAQmxWriteDigitalLines(...); // output TTL to one digitla line
    #pragma omp section
    DAQmxWriteAnalogScalarF64(...); // analog output to one channel
    #pragma omp section
    DAQmxWriteAnalogScalarF64(...); // analog output to another channel
    *nextdelay++;
    ResumeAsyncTimerCallbacks();
    return 0;
    void main(void)
    int n = 0;
    int timeid;
    timeid = NewAsyncTimer(120.0/1000.0, 3, 1, ATCallback, &n);
    But it doesn't work. There is no compilation and runtime error but the timing just not right. I wonder do I have to suspend the timer in the callback function when I reset the delay for next call? If I do so, I am worry if it will apply too much delay (since I suspend and resume the timer in the delay) so it will cause even worse timing. But if I don't suspend the timer before I reset the time, what happen if the code running in the callback function not finished before the next callback arrive. It is quite confusing how to use asynchronous timer in this case. Thanks.

    Yeah, unfortunately the 6711 doesn't have clocked digital I/O.  There are only two counters anyway so even if you could use them to generate your signals you wouldn't have enough (*maybe* something with the 4 AO channels and a counter depending on what your output signals need to look like?  The AO channels can output "digital" as well if you write 0V or 5V only).
    A PCI DAQ card which does support clocked digital I/O and has 2 analog outputs is the 6221 (or if you could use PCIe the 6321 is a more updated version with two extra counters and some additional functionality).
    If there isn't a way to implement clocked outputs afterall, one thing you could do to make your code a little more efficient is to consolidate the writes.  You can put your digital lines into a single task and write them at ocne, and you can put your analog channels into a single task and write them at once as well.
    I'm not sure about the callback issue, you might find some more help in the CVI forum.  I don't think it's going to solve your underlying problem though as ultimately the execution timing of your software calls is at the mercy of your OS.

  • How to print screen & recommendations for clipboard extenders?

    How do i print screen on my new iMac & can you recommend clipbaord extenders similar to the PC products Clipmate or SnagIt??
    As you can guess I'm a PC convert. Just got my new 24" iMac on the weekend and trying to get back to productivity. LOVE the product generally.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    When you say print screen, do you mean screen capture to image, or print the contents of the screen?
    For screen capture, you can follow these directions:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh338.html

    Note: some content on the screen may be copyright, so be careful only to copy that which you have rights to do so.
    To print a Finder window directly to printer, there is this utility:

  • Using (hopefully) DCR-TRV730 with FCE HD

    Howdy all,
    I just inherited a Sony DCR-TRV730 Digital 8 camcorder and would love to use it with Final Cut Express HD. I don't have a firewire cable amongst the accessories it came with and don't think it's new enough to even have a firewire port. Is it possible to capture footage from a camera that only has USB? This cam isn't listed on the compatible devices chart. Is there a converter available to make capturing possible?
    I did a search for "dcr-trv730" and it seems others have been able to capture from it but if anyone has specific steps or advice they can give me that would be great.

    Go to www.canopus.com and look for the ADVC-100 (a anolog to DV converter)

    I'm having a heck of a time trying to get my icloud to have matching data on my iphone and my mac laptop.
    I have 3 accounts.

    Question 2:  After I get all my info on one wittle cloud, how do I get that sucker to transport the data to both my iphone and my computer?
    Right now, I get one or the other on my phone, and only one at all times on my computer.  meaning I don't have any calender stuff and I'm
