Is turning my data services on abroad costing me???

i am abroad, using wifi with data and roaming is off. but internet or bbm is not working. soon as i turn my data services on, my bbm and internet works. Is this costing me???

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Only your carrier (Orange, as per your profile) can answer your question for certain...each carrier sets their own policies about what/when billing happens. But, from what you describe, it should be that those services are transporting via WiFi. You can always check the path that BIS is using via Manage Connections > Services Status. However, even if it's via WiFi, you should still talk to Orange to see if perhaps they have some other billing scheme...I've heard of a few lately that actually seem to be blocking ALL BIS via WiFi.
Good Luck!

  • Turning off data services

Hi, I was just wondering why you can't use wi-fi when you select to turn data services off. The problem is, is that for this 1 month I don't have unlimited data so need to make sure I don't spend much. Also will any services try to use the data service without user interaction? Thanks for your help

Whenever i turn data services off though it seems to also turn wi-fi off somehow.
It connects to a network however whenever i try to use anything it comes up with 'Unable to connect to the internet, please try again later.' The wi-fi diagnostics menu also says that the 'IP address no longer valid'
Whenever i turn data services back on wi-fi goes back to normal. Weird.
I have a feeling that you don't have the browser set as a Hotspot browser, then.
Even if you turn off Data Services, your Wifi Hotspot browser should work fine. I have one Bold device with no SIM even it, in which I can access and browse the internet on it via only WiFi using the Hotspot browser.

  • How to turn the data off

I just got my first Blackberry Z10. I am experinecing extreme high data usage although Wi-Fi is available. How can I turn the data off to control my usage? can't find it...

IN your Settings (swipe down from the top bezel on the homescreen) > Network Connections> Mobile Network > your carrier > you can turn off data services and still retain WiFi data transmission.
However, as stated above, if WiFi is connected, it will always be the preferred data pipe even if the mobile network data is ON.

  • Quckly turn Data Services on and off

Does anyone know of a way to set up the 9330 Curve to quickly turn data services off or on?  When in the office, I want the phone to be on, but not data services.  I wish there were a way to set up a smartkey to turn off or on data services.  Any ideas?

In addition, if you want a really easy method to go to Manage Connections, you can set up one of your convenience keys to do that.  Go to Options > Screen/Keyboard (may be slightly different in OS 6) and  scroll down to the convenience key settings.  You can then pick which convenience key you want to use to bring up the Manage Connections option.
Alternatively, you may want to look into third party apps to see if you can find any that control such a function.

  • BB 9330 - turning off mobile network data services causes BIS WiFi connection to change to not connected

    re: v. 6.0.0.719 bundle 3084 platform 4.4.0.560 update
    1. History.
    a. Received BlackBerry Curve 9330 out of the box with bundle 2333 installed (but missing Verizon Visual Mail Message app.) Installed BB Desktop Software on laptop, connected smartphone to PC, Attempted to install bundle 3084, but initialization apparently failed, phone still showing bundle 2333 installed and no VVM app. Browser app unable to connect to network. On second try was able to complete 3084 install. Still no VVM app. Now some times the browser connects, sometimes it does not. Browser not connecting appears to be BB software bug. VVM issue appears to be one for the service provider.
    b. Data service is currently Verizon BlackBerry Social Messaging Data Package which is suppose to have BlackBerry Internet Services via WiFi per Verizon FAQ doc.
    2. Problem. With an active WiFi connection the Browser app is not connecting via WiFi giving a error message that WiFi service is required.
Investigation found if mobile network data service was turn off in Mobile Network Options, the BlackBerry Internet Services connection status was changed from connected to "WiFi" to "not connected". Browser appears to work ok when mobile network data service is turned on. BIS connection to WiFi comes back on. Not sure at this point if web data is going via mobile network or WiFi.
I am wondering if other BB 9330 Verizon users are seeing the same symptoms.
    Bill
P.S. I could not find where to report this apparent software bug. So I hope is the right place.

If you have your Mobile Network as well as Wi-Fi turned on, your phone will default to the Wi-Fi for browsing (assuming you have a strong Wi-Fi signal).  Leaving both on will allow you to browse as well as receive calls and texts.
    I hope that helps you.

  • BlazeDS vs. LiveCycle Data Services

I'm a little but frustrated right now because nobody seems to understand what I'm talking about. Not even Adobe nor the reseller. Here's my problem:
I would like to buy the software that BlazeDS is based on. As far as I know, this software is called LiveCycle Date Services or LiveCycle DS. When you install ColdFusion 8, you can install a demo version of it. I also downloaded the trial version (120 days) of version 2.6 (226,619 Kb).
I chatted with Adobe and they told me that the cost is 30,000.00$ for 1 CPU?!? I talked with my reseller and he told me 7,000.00$ for 1 CPU.
I don't think that a 222,619 Kb software that is similar to the free BlazeDS worth 30,000.00$ not even 7,000.00$.
Can someone help me with that? Is it really that expensive?
    Thanks.

I understand how this can a bit confusing, but trust that Adobe wants to help you get this sorted out.
LiveCycle Data Services is ultimately targeted at large enterprise deployments for web-based applications that would serve thousands of clients and as such is priced accordingly.  We have heavily invested for several years now to make a very unique, highly performant and valuable product for a very small market and as such we priced accordingly and turned the BlazeDS version over to the open source community, ultimately satisfying most of the use cases for free.
It sounds to me like you have a case to take on the full version, and you have a reseller that is apparently willing to leverage the full discount based on your specific use case, and further that you have also gotten a 'stock' answer from Adobe in terms of the LiveCycle Data Services list price.  If you would like to speak directly with someone from the product team who may be able to clarify some other options, let me know and I will contact you directly or share my contact information with you.

  • Wifi when data service is off

Hi, next week Im travelling abroad, and I want to turn the data plan off, so my carrier doesent take all my assets and belongings away (we have the most expensive cell phone costs in the world in argentina). Nevertheless, i want to keep using my mail, bbm, twitter, and stuff through wi fi.
So what I did is turn off my data conection and turn on my wi fi in my house (the same thing I want to do abroad) and nothing worked.
I understand that what I wanna do is possible. In fact a bunch of people I know did it.
    What shall I do?
    Thanks

  • Global Escapade phone - can I turn off data?

I am traveling to Europe. I called Verizon Global Services and they sent me this global flip-phone called the Escapade as a loaner.
Fine with me, but one question. Can I turn off the data feature? It's going to cost loads of money (something like $20 per MB!) if I use data services.
It seems if I hit the top button in the D-pad, it launched some sort of Web browser. This is not good -- it seems like it's sending data merely at the touch of a button. And it's really easy to accidentally hit that button.
I don't need this or watnt this. Seems like a sneaky way for Verizon to make a quick buck off of me.
Is there a way to completely disable data capability on the Escapade? I know it can be done on my Droid.

Just put your phone in Airplane mode. This turns off all iPhone radios, but you can go back into settings & turn both WiFi & Bluetooth back on. Data roaming should be off by default: Settings>General>Network...

  • Disabling data usage on Elipsis Tablet does not turn of Data Usage

Yesterday purchased 3 tablets for my kids. First thing I did when I got home was add home wifi and disable data usage. Ridicoulous but this does not disable data usage. Tablet used 4gb of data before I realized what was going on, all the while connected to home Wifi, like the data connectio took precedence. This is a major flaw of this tablet. Called Customer Service, waiting for a mgr to call back. Unfortunatly waiting on hold for over 45min without getting to tech support but in the end the only way to turn off data apparently (or at least I found) was to put in Airplane mode. This is not right!
Even support forum states this is the way to enable/disable data. I feel dooped!

I'm sorry you waited so long trying to get through to Tech Support dm805. I know being able to disable Mobile Data is important to keep usage under control. As Ann154 mentioned, you are able to turn off Mobile Data in Settings. You can go to Settings> Data Usage> Select Mobile Data (at top right hand side), and it will turn off.  You can also go to Settings> More> Mobile Networks> Uncheck Data Enabled.
    I hope this helps.

  • Zend AMF Data Service Return Problem

    Hi Folks,
I am working with FB4 and Zend AMF/PHP and MySQL.  I began integrating the PHP stuff using the great article by Mihai Corlan called 'Working in Flash Builder 4 with Flex and PHP.  I followed all the steps exactly, aside from creating my own app-specific PHP classes and functions, etc...  I 'hooked up' the Zend stuff just like the article, created a text datagrid, just like the article, and viola!, it worked.  I then tweaked it a bit and interwove it into my 'real' component.  So far, so good.
Then I created a second PHP class with a different 'get data' type of function.  It queries a different table in MySQL, but is essentially the 'same' as the query/function in the initial PHP class.
In FB, in the Data Services window, I choose the 'Connect to Data/Services' function, just like the first time.  I then find/select my PHP class file and FB 'interrogates it' enough to show me the function that exists in the class.  I 'finish' the operation and it adds a new 'service' to the list of services in that window.  Again, so far, so good.
The problem comes when I try to 'test' the service or 'configure return types' (which basically requires a 'test' operation anyway).  I can enter the 'input' params just fine, but when I try to execute the call, I get the following error:
InvocationTargetException:There was an error while invoking the operation. Check your operation inputs or server code and try invoking the operation again.
Reason: An error occured while reading response sent by server. Try encoding the response suitably before sending it. e.g. If a database column contains UTF-8 characters then use utf8_encode() to encode its value before returning it from the operation.
I don't know where to go after this.  Again - the 2nd PHP class is essentially identical to the 1st.  The function in it is essentially identical, differing only by the input params, the name of the function and the actual SQL it sends to MySQL.  There is no special text, no special characters, no image stuff, nothing.  I do not 'encode' the results of the function in the first class - in fact the code in the second class is practically identical to the first.  I do not know what the error is talking about.  My guess is that it's more of a generic message.
I can debug the PHP code just fine from within a seperate instance of Eclipse.  The function runs/returns just fine - an array of PHP-defined objects (simple strings).
Any insights or advice would be welcomed.   Thank you,
    -David Baron

Thank Jorge, but that was not the issue, though, it may be related.
I checked the mySQL my.ini file, and there was already an entry for:
    [mysql]
    default-character-set=utf8
I added the 'default-collation=utf8_unicode_ci', like you suggested, but that didn't do anything.
I checked the Apache httpd.conf file, and added the following line 'under' the "DefaultType text/plain" line:
AddDefaultCharset UTF-8    but that did not do anything.
I checked my mySQL database, all the tables involved.  They were already at UTF-8 (default).  However, some of the 'varchar' columns were defined as 'latin 1-default collation'.   I changed them all to utf-8 (default table collation), but that did not help either.
Finally, I found the problem, though I don't really know if it is "my" problem, or ZendAMF's problem, or Adobe's problem.
It turned out that 'some' of my data had a 'bad' character in it.  Specifically, I had 'copied and pasted' some data from MS Word into mySQL Workbench.  Some of the data included the 'elipsis' character - you know, when you type "..." (dot dot dot) in MS Word, it replaces the three periods with a single elipsis character.  Although PHP could easily query and assemble this data into a nice object array, I noticed that that character showed up (in PHP's debugger) as a 'box' character, meaning "bad character".  Thus, I guess, Zend AMF and/or FlashBuilder could not 'bring over' and/or deal with this type of character.  As soon as I replace the few instances of that character with three periods, everything began to work perfectly.
So... what to do about this?  I thought I was through with silly encoding/decoding of data when I left JavaScript and HTML behind in moving to FlashBuilder technology.  Am I really going to have to worry about this kind of thing?  Or might this be a bug/deficiency somewhere in the stack?
    Thanks for your help,
    -David

  • I did an update to my wife's iPhone and now it won't connect through the 3G. It says you are not connected to a cellular data service

I Updated my wife's iPhone the other to the new operating system. It asked me first to use iCloud backup so I did. After the update was complete my wife can use wifi but when we try the 3G it says you are not connected to a cellular data service.
IT shows Bell as the provider but we seem to have lost something during this update.
    can someone help me please.

Check Settings>General>Cellular and make sure Cellular Data is set to On.  If it is, try putting it in Airplane mode for 15 seconds, then turn Airplane mode off again.  If it persists, give you carrier a call to confirm that it's properly activated with them and that your data plan is properly provisioned.

  • How can I get rid of a type generated by the Data/Services return type wizard?

    Hi All,
I have a JSON service that returns an object called "error".  The Data/Services "Configure Return Type" wizard automatically turned this into a class "Error".
However, this caused over a hundred errors to show up inside the generated classes, "Call to a possibly undefined method Error."  That's because of lines like this:
    throw new Error(propertyName + " is not a data property of entity Agreements");
It's trying to throw a regular "Error" object, but now that there's an "Error" class in the same package, that is taking precedence--and that Error object doesn't have a constructor with a single parameter.  At least, that's what I think is going on.
I tried to fix it by deleting _ErrorEntityMetadata.as, _Super_Error.as, and Error.as from the valueObjects package.  I then opened the FML file and deleted the definition for the entity "Error" and every reference to the Error entity (class) in my FML file.
I then changed my JSON service so that it returns an object called "serviceError" instead of just "error".
But, whenever I re-run the "Configure Return Type" wizard, it regenerates the Error class, even though I've deleted it from everywhere I can find it.  That breaks my project completely!  How can I end this and get Flash Builder to *stop* generating this type!
In the "Configure Return Type" wizard I very carefully inspected the type of every bit of data coming back to make sure none of them show up as type "Error."  And they don't (as expected, since I changed the object's name to serviceError--now the type of that object is ServiceError.
      -Josh

I think you are facing this known issue https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FB-29770
    Please vote it.
Thanks for the link--I just voted for it.
To avoid this, in the last page of "Configure Return Type", edit return type name to something else (You can also edit subnodes's name too in the wizard).
Actually, that's exactly what I saw doing; I apologize if that wasn't clear in my post.
I closed and restarted Flash Builder, and once I did that Flash Builder stopped generating the Error class.  My guess is that the FML file, even though I had updated it (by deleting all references to the Error class), was cached in some fashion by Flash Builder, and restarting Flash Builder forced it to reread the FML file?
Additional point of clarification: my understanding is that the FML file stores all the metadata about the services that Flash Builder has been able to figure out so far, and when you run the Configure Return Type wizard, it will regenerate *every* type in the FML file, even if that type is not mentioned anywhere in the particular return value that you are working with.
Edited to provide additional thoughts on FML file.
