Is turning off java from browser enough? or should i remove it from my macbook? I have OS X 10.8.3
And if removing is better, how do i do that? am new to Mac's, just got this one two months ago, loving it so far.
As BD says, disabling it is enough.
The people most likely to insist on using it are Banks so if your Bank asks for it it is best to have it readily available. But don't forget to disable it again when you have finished.

phone works great but when on a call proximity sensor kicks in turns off the screen. When I pull the phone away from my head screen is still blank. The force hangup/lock is the only way to bring the screen back on.

Do you see this when you are performing the steps? In step 4, before you release the home button, do you see the Connect to iTunes screen? If you do, is iTunes running on your computer? If iTunes isn't running - launch it on your own.
If you don't see the connect to iTunes screen, start all over again. But quit iTunes and restart your computer before you try again.
Placing your device into recovery mode
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.

so I have called HP tech support 12 times over the last 6 weeks and still my HP Officejet 4620 loses connection overnight. Of course becasue it was a birthday present I spent more time than I normally would have on this issue. While the tech are very polite they have not fixed my problem and now it is too late to return printer to store. This is a lot of money wasted and I think they need to admit this is a bug in this printer and resolve the problem!!!!!

When I go to post on a google blog and it asks me to sign in, I get a message that says that my cookies fuctionality is turned off, but when I go to firefox, to preferences and privacy, "accept cookies from sites until they expire" is checked. iPhones do not have international warranties. The only place in which you can get Apple service on your phones would be Hong Kong. Unless you have AppleCare, neither of these phones is under warranty. It is likely that the best Apple could offer you is an out-of-warranty replacement. -

Had exactly the same issue, and i've sorted this out now. It IS Apple's responsibility to deactivate this function, and simply switching their imessage off on a handset will NOT work.
Whatever apple did, they effectively released my number (read: t-mobile's number) from their messaging / OS framework's grip.

Whatever it was they did, and i can guarantee that they did SOMETHING to release my (t-mobile's) number from their ecosystem, even though they did not specify step two (whatever they did after instructing me to deactivate imessage on their handset - which i explained i had already done), it has now returned my SMS delivery and receipt status to normal, and i can send and receive to everyone and anyone in my Contact List. -
