Is two-pass VBR not needed if less than 60 minutes?

Just curious... I've read that single-pass will result in the same quality as two-pass for projects less than 60 minutes.

Single pass may result in superior quality. Two pass VBR is necessary to squeeze file sizes and bit rates to fit within DVD parameters.

  • Mavericks install freezes "less than a minute" and initialized two MacBooks at forced restart

Tonight I finally decided to install Mavericks in a new MacBook Air 1.7 GHz Intel Core i7, and an older MacBook Pro 15", were Mountain Lion was previously installed.
In both macs the install process freezed at "less than a minute" for long time, too long, so that I wrongly decided to force shut down, and when I restarted both macs were initialized as brand new machine, with all prevoius data lost...
Luckily I have time machine back-up of both and now I am recovering from it.
Maybe I am wrong to force quit from install process, but how can it be that I encountered the same situation in two machines?
I also encountered the same less than a minute issue with Mountain Lion when I moved data from the older MacBook Pro to the new Air, but after shutting off, the Air started to work correctly.
What the **** is this freezing status? I am not sure I will be trying again to install Mavericks since I get a solution for this. And I am very frustrated not to see Mac stuff runnning smoothly as ever.

I did two installs and with each one when it stated less than one minute it took 10.  Need to patient and it will finish.  Something wrong with the timing indicator i guess.

  • Just tried installing an update to OS.  Although the screen tells me that the installation will be completed in less than one minute, that was two hours ago, and the computer won't permit me to shut it down via the power button, as I get an error sound.

Just tried installing an update to OSX Snow Leopard.  Prior to trying to update OS, I was running V 10.6.3.  During installation, it locked up.  Although the screen tells me that the installation will be completed in less than one minute, that was two hours ago, and the computer won't permit me to shut it down via the power button, as I get an error sound.  What do I do now?  Help!

Hold the power key till it shuts down, it may take a little while, try holding it thru the warning.
Then if it shuts down restart and open Safari/Preferences, General tab, and set "Save Downloaded Files to:"
Select desktop, if desktop is not available in the the drop down menu, click other, then select Desktop from the column from the on the left.
    Then download this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
This will download the "stand alone installer"
Click on the installer pkg and follow the prompts.
    Hope this helps

    Hi,
For this case of "Part I" selected during GR, you need to create Excise invoice thro J1IEX ->  Capture Excise Invoice -> Good receipt (use the material document number), which will complete the part II posting. Then you can proceed with MIRO.
    With regards,

  • HT4528 My IPhone 4 will not turn on. The battery has charge in it, I used it once this morning and now less than 30 minutes later it won't turn on, completely dead.

I have an IPhone 4, its less than a year old. Without warning it won't turn on. I used it less than 30 minutes ago, the battery has charge in it, but the phone will not turn on. I tried connecting the charge lead but it still won't turn on.

Have you try to hard reset your phone? Holding both power and home button until the apple logo appears on screen.
Hope this advice may help you.

Has any one else had the problem of having less than a minute of render regqardless of the durtion of the sequence. Audio goes first then video goes black and plays for the duration of the render with no audio and black video?

I did . I even tried to add the extra 25 seconds at the tail of the sequence after the edited clips end...same result, audio goes then video follows a few seconds after that. I should add that I am using Pr CC 2014

  • "less than a minute" when migrating, transfer fails

Migrating to a MBP running 10.7.2. from white iMac running updated Snow Leopard. Everthing is fine until it gets near the end to "less than a minute" then hangs up there and goes no further. I quit and get nothing.

Your TimeMachine drive is not functioning.
Use a Firewire cable and a Firewire 800 to Firewire 400 adapter if you need it and follow the steps to hook the two computers together like I outlined above. Try migration assistant that way.
Another way is to use Carbon Copy Cloner and cloning the iMac's hard drive to the external drive, it has to be formatted GUID OS X Extended first in Disk Utility.  Then once you have the iMac clone connected to the MBP then run Migration Assistant against the clone and it works too.
Another method is to use a external drive and transfer the files using that manually.
Last two methods you need to format the external drive correctly

  • Migration assistant taking forever at "less than a minute"

Using Migration Assistant to set up new Macbook Pro running 10.8 from external drive (via USB) using 10.8 Time Maching back up from my iMac. I did the exact same thing in January from old Macbook Pro to new iMac without any trouble. This time around the migration assistant has been in "Less than a minutate remaining" mode for about 3 hours. It has gone from "tranferring files and folders" to "transferring system settings" but both has remained in "Less than a minute remaining." Should I be persistant and stick it out? If so, for how long? Some support threads say stick it out while Apple support says "this is not normal" and the back up could be corrupt and may need to be migrated in safe mode. Any thoughts or ideas shared here appreciated. Thanks!

I had this problem migrating from my iMac; a late 2009 24in FW800 with Mavericks, to a late 2013 27inch Thunderbolt.  Migration Assistant hung at "lass than a minute" for over an hour and change...   My back up drives had two F800 interfaces and a USB.  I was abe to plug an additional drive into one of the remaining available ports on the back of my Time Capsule drive.  This woke up the Time Capsule drive and finished the migration installation process.
I beleive the setting "put Hard Drives to sleep when possible" must have been on by default on the unused OS without my awareness.  The action of plugging in an additional drive to the remaining port on my Time Capusle back up drive woke the Time Capsule drive up and then in completed almost imediately.  Hope this helps and that any future readers have a BAck Up drive with more than one port and an extra device or drive they can plug into in (Daisy Chain Style) to get the Capusle drive to complete.   Good luck!

  • Copying large files hangs at "less than a minute"

    hi,
When copying large files around my intel mac mini system the Finder appears to freeze just before the end - when the dialog window is telling me that there's "less than a minute" left. It doesn't happen ALL the time, just enough times to be a real nuisance.
Killing the finder doesn't help - I need to power off to regain control of the Finder.
This recently started to happen after I opened up the mac mini to add more memory. Not sure if this is related - everything else seems to be ok. I have a mixture of USB and Firewire external drives - the mac mini is used to hold all my HD camcorder files and process the iMovie rendering to disk.
I'm running the latest version of os x with all the updates.
    Any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply Tom. I've downloaded a firmware updater from the Lacie site, and I'm apparently uptodate. However, I also have a USB Seagate external drive, but the Seagate site seems to only provide support for Windows. grr.
Is this a known problem with certain drives/firmware?

  • Netrestore 10.6.8 fails in less than a minute

Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated!
First off i have started completley from scratch with 10.6.8 and i'm using SIU.
My goal is to have a netrestore image that i can use ARD to point x amount of computers to that network image and restore a whole lab in one move.
my workflow in SIU is as follows
1.define image source, this is my perfect machine (macbook hd with 10.6.8)
2.Format disk, formats the disk regardless of what it is named and rename as "Macintosh HD"
3.enable automated installation on volume named "Macintosh HD"
    4.create netrestore image
My test mac can find the image on the network, boot and reformat but it won't restore the image. it fails in less than a minute. this was the same in 10.6.7 too.
I can provide more details if needed but does anybody out there have any idea what i may be doing wrong?
    Thank you!

My answer is probably not what you're looking for, but that hasn't stopped me yet ;-)
I used the Apple imaging tools for years, sometimes without a hitch, sometimes successfully after searching these forums for tips becasue the tools didn't work straightforward, and sometimes with no luck. 2 or 3 years ago we hired a consultant to help out with imaging. They went right to DeployStudio. I've not touched Apple's imaging tools since.
DeployStudion's documentation is great, there is a good firum at their web site, and I've found the process to be much more stable than any version of Apple's tools. Once it is set up and running, adding new images and workflows is a breeze, and it is easily configurable. I highly reccomend it. YMMV.

  • 10.9.3 update "less than a minute" - 60 mins ago

    Hi
I installed the updates for 10.9.3 which required a reboot.  After the reboot the Installing Software Update dialog shows and the progress bar moved swiftly towards the end, then stuck at about 95% with the "Less than a minute" message.  That was 60 minutes ago!
Should I leave it and hope it sorts it self out or try turning it off?
    Cheers
    Ian

I'd actually forgotten about this - just went back and the install was still at the same place.  That's quite a few hours so I held the power button down and restarted which it did no problem.
However the updates had not been applied and OSX stated reboot is required.
There were two updates listed, iTunes and the OSX one.  Last time I had clicked update all, this time I just tried the OSX update and that rebooted and worked without issues.  iTunes then updated once the machine had rebooted and I had signed in.
So bottom line is that all us good now.
    Hope this helps someone

  • Trial Download of Indesign CS 5.5 fails at less than a minute remaining

I have tried downloading the trial version of InDesign CS 5.5 on two different Macs, both eventually fail/hang when the message in the Adobe Download Assistant is "Downloading xxx MB - less than a minute".  This message  remains indefinitely.  No log file that I can find indicates any progress, and the downloaded file is *larger* than the size indicated in the "Downloading xxx mb message".
In both cases, the computers are running OS 10.6 and the destination for the download is the users Downloads directory.  In one case, the user is an administrator of the computer, in the other it is not.  In both cases there are previous licensed versions of Adobe creative suite products installed (CS5).
Please provide a solution or a direct download link.

Follow Solution 1 from the below link.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-download-assistant.html
    Please try the following steps:
    1) Visit Adobe.com product download page http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=indesign
    2) Click the "Download Now" button
Adobe Download Assistant will launch on your desktop, and after you sign-in (it does not remember the credential intentionally), you will be prompted for a location to save the product and download will start.
If you are already on an Adobe.com product trial download page (step 1), simply refresh it, and then click the "Download Now" button.

  • How can replicate  200Mo with Oilte less than 40 minutes ?

I would like to know if it is possible to do complete refresh of 200Mo of data less than 40 Minutes ?
    How to do ?
I did it with wtgpack, webtogo, msync.
I need more than 8 hours for that.
    Thank you for more information.

Ther depends merely on the network and the CPU power of the laptop/desktop. There is not much Oracle9i Lite/synchronizaiton can do because the client does a complete refresh. The tuning facilities do only apply when performing a fast refresh.
Assuming that you want a full refresh only for the very first time (instantiation), you might want to look into a new feature in 5.0.2.1.0 called "Offline Instantiation". The replication server creates the 200mb database for each user on the server (rather over the network) which then can be FTP to the client or even burned onto a CD-ROM.
There is a readme.txt file in (Mobile Devevelopment Kit) ORACLE_HOME\Mobile\Sdk\Consolidator\OLI

  • Migration stalled with "less than a minute remaining"

This issue was discussed back in April, but no definitive solution was found.
I installed Mountain Lion on an older MacBook Pro and all went well until I got to the Setup Assistant after restart. The migration of my files from a Time Machine backup stalled with "less than a minute remaining" while "transferring files to support applications". Apparently this is a known issue that affects older Macs upgrading from Snow Leopard. I have two questions about this:
    1. Can anyone suggest a fix or workaround for this problem? In the earlier thread, some people repeated the file transfer several times with exactly the same results. One person evidently had better luck when he started over and deselected everything but Users on the transfer options screen; but it obviously requires alot of extra work on the user's part to reinstall every application.
    2. What is the best way to abort the stalled transfer without risk of damaging the data on my Time Machine backup drive? Mountain Lion refused to install on my startup drive until I erased it, so my Time Machine backup is the only copy I have of my data. Since Setup Assistant is not frozen, I can hit command-Q and Setup Assistant offers to shut down; but is the data on my backup drive at risk if I shut down and start over?
    Thanks!

Has your Migration Assistant actually crashed? I am restoring my computer from a hard drive failure and the following dialog has been displayed for the last 12 hours. I clicked on the App in the dock to see if it was displaying as crashed, it doesn't appear to be.
I checked the "Get Info" on the Hard Drive Volume, and it is showing a very slow progression of used bytes. I suspect the transfer is still continuing, just very slow as I have so much data. I think it is a matter of quanity of files rather than "file size".
Should be interesting to see in another day or so to see if it completes. :-)
