Is uncompressed 8-bit PAL 48 KHz the most compatible format for a HDV dvd

I have shot a project in HDV, edited in HDV sequence. I now want to produce a dvd, that is compatible on both widescreen and 4:3 tv's.
A friend suggested exporting a quicktime movie in uncompressed 8-bit PAL 48 KHz to ensure maximum compatibility.
Would people agree with using this setting?

There are a boatload of posts on exactly this topic, they come in waves ... nobody will ask this question for a week or two, then it'll be the same question 2 or 3 times a day
Nobody has asked for a week or two so I guess yours signals the start of the next wave! If you use the search function and you'll find the hundreds of answers that have gone before ...
... or just use one of the many tutorials freely available on the subject: for example, http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/hdv_to_sddvd.html

  • Most Compatible Format for DVD Players

I am trying to burn a project on some dvds. I have an external burner, and good media. I want to make sure that I am making it as compatible as possible, however. Right now, what I am doing is I have exported the project to full quality dv and am then converting it and burning in Toast. Is there another process that I am unaware of that would make the discs more compatible than the one I am currently using?

Make sure to keep it in NTSC format. PAL doesn't play in all Players, and you might have problems getting it to play.
As far as a different process, they way you are doing sounds a little out of the way. Why not just burn it through iDVD or iMovie? The quality of everything I burn from iDVD is perfect. Just a suggestion.
But the way you are doing it won't make it less compatible.
Just make sure it is a DVD-R(+R's suck), a good brand, Apple or Verbatim, and just burn it at the Best Quality, slower burn speed and you should be fine.
    Good luck!

  • Most compatible format for HDV export to dvd

    Hi
I just got a new HDV camera (canon XH-A1) and have shot a project in HDV. I am now mastering it to dvd (using IDvd) and need to know the best format to use for compatibility across tv's (ie SD and widescreen)
I captured as HDV, made a DV PAL sequence. I have found on a friend's SD tv, the footage is clipped, not showing edges, eg the titles (even though in title safe area) and on a friends HDV TV, all the footage appears, the looks stretched?
What is the best format to export my HDV footage, so it is compatible with the widest number of tvs (ie HD ready and older SD tv's)?
    regards
    Mark

iDVD is not the ideal tool to be doing this with, DVD Studio Pro is better equipped to deal with it, however, if you want to use iDVD, you have to use a more recent version that knows how to handle wide screen (it involves setting a flag so the DVD player knows to letterbox or display widescreen depending on the capability of the tv).
You also need to tell either iDVD or DVDSP that the material is anamorphic widescreen 16:9 material...

  • How can I set the default save format for photoshop edited photos?

I just spotted that some of my photos that I've edited in Photoshop from Lightroom are a whopping 450MB. Looking deeper I found that they are saved as uncompressed TIFF files, this despite the default save format for Photoshop in Lightroom's preferences being set to ZIP compressed TIFF files. So why doesn't this setting work and how can I make Photoshop save things compressed?

Sounds funny but first tell us what version of PS you have, what version of Lr and which OS. Thanks.

I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008), Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHz, 4GB Memory. and am currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
I would like to know which is the most stable upgrade for my model? Mountain Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite?
When I had gone to the apple care centre in India a few months ago to upgrade my OSX to Mountain Lion, I was told that considering my macbook pro's specs, upgrading it would just make it less efficient, and that I should stick to Snow Leopard unless I consider buying a newer mac that would benefit from it. Is this true? I find it a bit hard to believe. Which update is most recommended?
I also notice that my mac has gotten considerably slower. While using chrome, it buffers and struggles with even just 5 tabs open. Could this have something to do with my current ios? As a precaution, I have always been making sure I have enough free space on disk i.e around 70 - 100 free out of 250GB.
    Any advice is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Mavericks is no longer available from the App Store, so your choice is Yosemite. One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install the new OS, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won't have to go though the revert process.

Unfortunately yes, though technology would never move on if it kept to older standards and did not strive to do more.
The app store always gives you the option to use a previous version of the app IF it is available for your device.
Sorry but you are stuck without new hardware.

  • FUhr: myFirstMIDlet - what is the most compatible configuration? request fo

    Hello,
I have just programmed for the first time in java, and in j2me,
using sun's j2se and j2me. On my own phone, nokia 6230, the
midlet works well. Also in the sun- and nokia6230-emulator.
But a friend with a slightly older Nokia phone couldn't get
it working. Some "not supported" error message.
Please have a look at the following JAR, it's really really
small (<4kB), so cheap to download to your phone.
It's very interesting for me, on which phones which version works:
    http://www.andreasK.de/fuhr/s01/fuhr.jar JTWI MIDP2.0 CLDC1.0
    http://www.andreasK.de/fuhr/s02/fuhr.jar JTWI MIDP2.0 CLDC1.1
    http://www.andreasK.de/fuhr/s03/fuhr.jar MIDP1.0 CLDC1.0
    http://www.andreasK.de/fuhr/s04/fuhr.jar MIDP1.0 CLDC1.1
Thanks a lot, already in advance!
Probably the most compatible is s03, isn't it?
    Do many phones use that?
What do you think about the program? Please tell me your opinion.
It's for a festival, the probably best place on earth
    next weekend: www.fusion-festival.de
Back to my program. The most urgent improvements are:
    * a continuous update whenever a new "real" minute begins
    - any hints how to do that? Timer? Events?
    * a key-lock feature so that the programm can continue
to run while the phone is in the pocket.
Can I "overload" the standard keypress-routine?
    How to?
    * a bigger fJahr:1887 display.
It's already the biggest font size, and changing the font
seems to work only with MIDP2.0.
Any hints how to draw a bigger 4-digits-number,
    perhaps even in MIDP1.0?
    * automatically recalculate whenever one of the datetime fields
has been changed by the user. how to?
    thanks a lot!
    Andreas

    Heho,
There is a newer version now, without any double variable.
I hope that solves the "floatingpoint not supported" problem.
    Please try now:
    http://www.andreasK.de/fuhr/s04/fuhr.jar (v1.6)
    or http://www.andreasK.de/fuhr.jar (v1.6)
Thanks a lot, already in advance!
Probably the most compatible setting is (MIDP1.0 CLDC1.0), isn't it?

  • 3.6.26 is working on my OSX 10.4.11 PPC, but it keeps asking me to download the most current version for my system... why?

I've dowloaded and updated 3.6.26, which Firefox stated was the most current version, but when I restart the browser, it then states I'm NOT running the most current version for my system... why?
I'm running a Mac PPC G4 10.4.11 Thanks for any assistance you can provide :)

Thanks for the Reply Alice... :) The message is when I restart Firefox, which activates the update, and the 'thanks' page on Firefox's site (not Google)... So, I'm curious why it gives me my most current update, then tells me that there might be a more current version for my system... very strange! Anyway, I'm definitely sticking with 3.6.26, unless I get info that suggests there's a .27 or .28 flying around that may be useful... I will definitely NOT go to 9 or 10.... :)

  • The most compatible  way of offering short movies on a website?

    Hi everyone,
I am working on a website which offers links to short movies
which the admin has uploaded. they are in mwv/mpg/avi format. I am
using this object method, I can see them on my systems, but the
client cannot make it to work on their systems. I am looking for
the most compatible way of linking and displaying short movies on
the site. work with PC and mac.
this is my current method that apparently is not fully
    compatible:
    <cfoutput><embed src="Media/#MediaParam#"
    width="408" height="354" autostart="1"
    showstatusbar=1></embed></cfoutput>
any help is appreciated in advance..

can the data go from the drive direct to the ATV2?
    no.
iTunes must be running to fetch and serve the content to ATV.
I ask as its far easier to connect a ATV2 and a Network drive via cat5, however itd be nice to not have to plug a mac in as well.
if your wireless network is n-capable and doesn't suffer interference problems, that scenario might work.
Possible try to get a older ATV?
good luck with that they are hard to come by. try eBay or something.

My time machine back up does not appear to back up documents and e mails (the most important things for me). How do I get this done?

How do you know it's not backing up those things? To check documents, go in the Finder to your documents folder, then go to the Time Machine icon in your menubar and click Enter Time Machine. Scroll back through time and see if previous versions of the documents exist in the backups.
For Mail, same thing. Open the Mail app, go into Time Machine in the same way, and scroll back. Your inbox should change to reflect how it looked when it was backed up.

  • Is RMI the most suitable technology for....

    Hi,
I'm wondering if RMI is the most suitable technology for the following application....
I wish to make an filetransfer application that should be able to send large ASCII files in smaller chunks, compressed with GZIP and with re-transmission if the connection failes. The application should be able to handle several simultanious communications. With my (limited) experience I have 2 ways to go.. either a socketbased solution or RMI to send the serialized datachunks. Or are there other Java technologies that is better to use?
The application should preferably run as a service in an Windows environment(NT, W2K, XP...) so I also have to think of how to deploy this as easy as possible. I don't want to use J2EE or similar. I want to make it as simple as possible.
Any thoughts what's the perfert Java technology to use? RMI?
    Regards
    Bjrnar Selsbak

OK. I was mainly questioning whether there were firewalls in the way.
Not clear to me if your application is truely client server: clients making - I guess upload or download requests to a server, then passing or fetching file info and content.
I've implemented something like this - big volumes (gigabytes), and it works pretty well. The recovery scheme was to start the particular (failing) file all over again. You are going to have to figure out your own recovery scheme - RMI does none of that for you.

  • How do I change the default file format for saving files in Preview

I often take screen clips and save them as files to my desktop, then upload them to my website or include them in emails. The default file format for Preview seems to be TIFF, but I'd prefer jpg. How do I convince Preview to use jpg as the default file format?
    TIA,
    Thad

I should have been a little clearer...
If I'm emailing a screen-clip, I can just paste it right into the email, but I post on a lot of discussion boards and it's often nice to be able to include a screen shot in those. My preferred way to do that is to post the clip at my personal website and then put a link in the post. It gives me the ability to delete the image whenever I want (a plus for any security freak) and it works on every discussion board I know. Some boards allow attachments, some don't. Plus I don't want to have to remember different d/b file attachment procedures. Anyway, when I make a screen-clip, I need to temporarily save it (usually to my desktop), then ftp it to my website. I use Preview to do that. It's simple. But I'd like it to default to .jpg instead of .png or .tiff. (FWIW, I just tried it and the default was .png, but I swear I did something similar earlier that defaulted to .tiff when I first tried to save the newly-created file).
