Is updater.exe a Mozilla Firefox file? Symantec keeps blocking it.

Symantec Endpoint is asking me whether I want to remove this file from my PC or allow the file. what should I do?

Hello,
Mozilla does have an updater, but "updater.exe" is a very generic name, for instance:
* http://www.shouldiremoveit.com/Better-Experience-102105-program.aspx
If the updater is located in the Mozilla Firefox install directory, then it is most likely safe.
* Default install directory for 64 bit computers: ''C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\''
* Default install directory for 32 bit computers: ''C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\''

    This is some standard guidance that addresses the most common issues with the Flash Player plugin. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:
    (1) If you have any recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media make sure they are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them temporarily.
    (2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash
    (A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    (B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues
    (3) Disable protected mode (Windows Vista and higher)
    See this support article from Adobe under the heading "Last Resort": [http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?]
    Any luck?

  • I recently installed Adobe Flash Player 11 ActiveX--11.4.402.265 and when I open My Mozilla Firefox browser I keep getting this message flashing on my screen: '

    I recently installed Adobe Flash Player 11 ActiveX--11.4.402.265 and when I open My Mozilla Firefox browser I keep getting this message flashing on my screen: 'Adobe Flash Player 11.4 r402 has stopped working" and then "Windows is checking for a solution"
    This flashes a few times then usually stops but not always.
    It happens every time I try to open a new page.
    I fixed this problem by uninstalling Adobe Flash Player 11 and installing Adobe Flash Player 10.3. However, now my IE browser wants me to install Adobe Flash Player 11 again. Although I don't use my IE browser frequently, I DO have to use it sometimes. Will there be an update to Firefox 15.0 to correct this issue?

    Thank you, your solution worked great.

    mozilla firefox start page keeps logging itself on after I close all internet windows I come back and there it is. Why??? Make it stop.

    I've got the exact same issue! I'm pretty sure it just started today too. It's so bizarre because we've all been using Firefox 26.0 for at least a month, right? How could the ''about:home'' page all of a sudden cause this issue?
    I've been able to replicate this issue on a virtual machine running Windows XP SP3, so clearly it has nothing to do with Windows 7.

  • I downloaded 3.6.8 and found Win32.Cherche.us in module plugin-containers.exe in mozilla firefox directory. i now have many network computers to clean and a lot of work, check your files

    I started installing 3.6.8 several network computers. When I started firefox, I got the message from spybot that Win32.Cherche.us was found in file plugin-container.exe in the mozilla firefox directory. This is a rootkit and I will probably to re install/clean at least 4 or 5 virtual/real machines. This will be a lot of work on a weekend when I just wanted to rest
    == This happened ==
    Not sure how often
    == I installed 3.6.9

    Could an admin or mod please answer.
    I have a serious question to ask that only they could answer.
    Thank You

    btw, here's that screenshot

  • Why do i keep getting a 2nd shortcut on my desktop for Mozilla-Firefox. I keep deleting the 2nd icon and it keeps coming back.

    I started getting a 2nd shortcut icon on my desktop for Mozilla Firefox. Every time I delete this 2nd icon, it comes back and I don't know why.

    Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
    You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]
    * [http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363 TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility]
    [http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
    Further information can be found in the [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]] article.

  • Though installed firefox 10.0, I recently have the application updater.exe running as soon as firefox is launched. The problem disappears when forcefully closing updater.exe, then also firefox calms down. How to avoid this problem?

    It consumes 30% of cpu and takes with it firefox, together consuming more than half of CPU and going on >1/2h.
    This is a new phenomenon which slows down all other activity on my computer.

    After updating to version 10 I closed Firefox.
    I noticed that there was a lot of CPU activity.
    Checked Task Manager and noticed that in Processes, firefox.exe and plug-in container were running. Opened Firefox and closed again but the processes were still running in TM.
    Highlighted firefox.exe in TM and clicked End Process. Both processes disappeared from TM.
    Have opened and closed FF a couple of times since with no problem.
    However, the OP seems to indicate that this is a problem that re-occurs.
    Why is FF not shutting down properly? Is it possibly something to do with the automatic check for add in/extension updates?

  • Updating Firefox 4.0 to 5.0 downloaded from Mozilla Firefox Add-Ons keeps repeating duplicate downloads...

    Firefox 5.0 upgrade from Mozilla downloads keeps repeating???

    I've since updated manually to 4.0.1, but haven't yet tried the full uninstall version, because I have to export plenty of settings first (and/or manually copy them). Also means I'd have to start from scratch with many customizations in No Script.
    That said, I'll try the 'Safe Mode' option tonight, thank you :-)!
    If I have to uninstall the whole shebang, I'd be more tempted to go back to 3.6.x until a few more of 4's teething problems (e.g. the messy print dialogues, particularly preview, which regularly doesn't even work) have been tackled.
    Thanks-1M! for now - keep you posted.

    Just a few of the types of errors collected.
    It is getting to be a pain to have to sit and wait until it is responding again. At that point the cursor is locked on to what ever it is sitting over. You have to click on it to release it.
    Anyone have any ideas.

    Glad it is fixed. Thanks for posting back, (even if we are not sure exactly what happened).

  • Using Mozilla FIrefox I now keep gettng a display that says I must install a new "plug-in". How can I make sure this "plug-in" is secure?

    Lately I've been receiving requests to update a "plug-in". This is a new message, and I can't get to my usual web sites without upgrading a "plug-in". A list of "plug-ins" is then displayed that require updating. How secure is this update page? Should I log in to your Mozilla web site to insure security? I don't want to be a victim of "phishing".
    Thank you,

  • Can I upgrade from Firefox 3 (updated newest version) to Firefox 4 and keep my bookmarks and settings or will I lose them if I upgrade ?

    I want to upgrade to the new Firefox 4 from my Firefox 3. But I don't want to lose my settings, tags and bookmarks that I have now. So my question is: Can I upgrade without losing these ?
    Please Help !

    Firefox 4 will by default use the same profile folder (location where bookmarks, passwords etc are stored) as previously installed versions. You will not lose your user data by upgrading.

  • Updater.exe legit file for Firefox?

    I was using Norton 360 and something said that updater.exe is a good file, and ok to run.
    The Signature is Mozilla Corporation
    Says its 2 months old and millions of people in Norton Community use it, but what really makes me know specicious is it wanted access to hard drive right after I clicked start up. And this file name is so vague and used for sometimes legit things and other times not.
    So I wanted to know how is Firefox does it updates usually and if anyone has had any experience with it.

    Works Fine for me here, upgrade your browser to Firefox 9 and check
    * getfirefox.com

  • The update.exe file seems to be in the C:/User/Appdata folder as well as C:/Program file folder..is the one in appdata folder normal?

    When firefox checks for update, the update.exe seems to be in 3 different locations- c:/user/appdata & c:/program file/. Am doubtful of this.Shouldn't it be only in the program files folder?Is it safe to update?

    updater.exe is found in 29 location(s)
