Is updating worth $99 ?

PS Elements 2.0 came free with my new scanner from Canon. The scanner is to start a project scanning all family photos and slides and adding text info.
Would updating to PS Elements 6.0 be worth $99 ?
Thanks.
Windows XP, HP deskjet 812C, 1.0 GB RAM

Well, you would get healing brush, quick selection tool, shadows/highlights, curves (sort of), improved photomerge, built-in project templates, photo organizing, greatly improved text tool, new brush engine (brushes made for PS CS, PS CS2, PS CS3 won't work with PE 2), multi-page documents, improved PDF handling, lots of new graphics, yahoo maps, flash web galleries, Raw support, non-destructive editing of JPEG and TIFF files via the Raw converter, black and white conversion, just off the top of my head.

Has anyone done this update? Is this update worth it? what are the main features of this updates?

What version are you on now ? If you are on 5.1.0 then the update to 5.1.1 is very small - from here :
Improves reliability of using HDR option for photos taken using the Lock Screen shortcut
Addresses bugs that could prevent the new iPad from switching between 2G and 3G networks
Fixes bugs that affected AirPlay video playback in some circumstances
Improved reliability for syncing Safari bookmarks and Reading List
Fixes an issue where 'Unable to purchase' alert could be displayed after successful purchase
If you are on an earlier iOS version then you will get the intermediate updates as well e.g.

  • 8.02 vs 8.1 update Worth It?

I HATE my IPhone 5S!! Hate, hate, hate, Many times have wanted to throw out the window because it is near useless. Can't hear anyone, no one can hear me. Always having to adjust volume (again and again) to highest possible, still NG. The sync with my car is awful. My old Samsung "slide" phone was better! I ask for Mark on cell like I always did with old phone and sends to John Maxwell. Never, ever gets right, forced to pull over and dial on phone, then when I answer on steering wheel the phone goes to private mode! When outside instead of in office or home (wi-fi), have never been able to retrieve data, even Sirius states unavailable. I don't live in the country but on LI. Map keeps changing address I enter to other cities with same street name, and audio on GPS doesn't work. Not to mention battery drain in less than a day. Crap all around.,Do not even trust Apple to download update. Will wait for latest reviews. Ready to go back to the store and ask for a refund!

For me it was worth upgrading from 8.0.2 to 8.1 because it fixed my Bluetooth issue with my car and iPhone 5s.

  • Is the new OS update worth the effort ? ...

Having a hard time updating my iPad to the OS 4. whatever version. What exactly are the benefits of the new version over the installed version that's already on the iPad? I like it and can use it for everything the way it is, but lots of people seem to be having issues downloading and after installing the update. Is it really worth it if everything works now ???
Thanks everybody ... Happy Holidays ...
    Dave

If everything is working, and you don't want/need any of the new features (multi-tasking, folders, Airprint/Airplay) then you don't have to upgrade. But you may find that over the coming weeks/months any apps that you have may get updates that require the new iOS - in which case if you stick with the version that you've got you won't be able to update them.
There are a number of people who have had, or are still having, problems with 4.2 - I havn't had a single problem, but there is no guarantee that you won't be one of the (probably) fairly small minority who have had. And most people who post on forums like these are those with problems; those who are ok tend not to sign up and post.
If you having problems downloading the update, then a number of people have had success after temporarily turning off their firewall and anti-virus.

  • Kernel Panic, Software Updates, Worth 104.8 Update?

Hi, hope someone can give me some advice.
We have been using a few GS’s runiing 10.4.7 for good few months now with no major problem. The predominate application used is FCP (5.1.2). We have been keeping the machine up-to-date via software update from the start. We have tended to do the updates on one machine and the follow with the rest a week or so later if there haven’t been any problems regarding updates.
    Until now.
Today we have had multiple kernel panics on the a good percentage of the machines.
This is the lastest from one of them.

It maybe a coincidence but yesterday we did a software
-up-date on the rest of the machine after testing it on two machine which had no problems.
It was not a major update the application where,
    iMovie
    Grageband
    iPhoto
    iWeb
    pages.
All up to the latest versions.
The only reaming update via software update the 10.4.8 update which we have help off from doing.
Could these last updates being causing the problems?
Would it be worth updating one of the machines that has experienced the problem to 10.4.8 to see if the continue?
    Or are we missing something?
Any advice on this would be great.
    Thanks
G5 Quad, Mac Book Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Your kernel panics are not caused by third-party software and is most likely hardware.
    Things you can try
Boot into Recovery and Repair the disk
Reset PRAM/NVRAM: OS X Mavericks: Reset your computer’s PRAM
Reset SMC (as you seem to have possible sleep problems): Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
You can try to check the RAM with Remember. http://www.kelleycomputing.net/rember/
Another way to check is to remove one stick and test, then swap. However, 2GB might not be enough to do what you want on the Mac. If it always happens on wake from sleep, then it could be a quick test.

  • Is the iOS 6.1.3 update worth it for iPad 2?

I have iOS 4.3.2, so it would be a big jump. I don't like the fact that I'll lose the YouTube app (I use it, I've never really used Google Maps app, though), but it's nice to be able to update my apps and download apps that require a higher OS.
However, I have heard/read a lot about connection issues for the iPad after updating to iOS 6.1.3. For me, losing the Wi-Fi would be like losing the iPad. I've also read that it "breaks" the ability for the device to connect to the Internet? I don't want permanent damage...
Do you think there will be an update 6.1.5 that will fix the Wi-Fi bug before iOS 7 comes out?

Many people using iPad 2 have the Wi-Fi problem: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5014501?
I would just like to know if they were unlucky or if you were lucky...

  • Itunes 9 updates worth it?

I had big problems with itunes 9 with freezing, crashing etc. Went back to itunes 8 which was a total hassle. I see now the itunes 9 updates are available which claim to fix those earlier problems, should i update or just keep itunes 8?

when I open iTunes, it says it is updating my library and it takes forever then about 3/4 through it says "itunes has experienced an unexpected error and has to close. We apologize for any inconvienence".
That's most likely to be either a library file or a content file problem, tilly. For advice on those two issues, see the "User-specific troubleshooting" section of the following document:

  • Is 2.0 Update Worth the Hassle????

I have one of the original iPhones and have been reading the forums quite often since Friday and so far obviously I see a lot of people saying they are bricked. But is this happening because people were impatient and unplugged their phones before firmware update was complete due to the bogged down servers? This seems like a very possible scenario. Its either that or there really is something wrong with the update???
Also if people cram their phones completely full its not going to function properly just a computer wouldnt if you filled its hard drive all the way full.

It truly depends on your needs.
    If you need microsoft exchange
If you need some of the cool new apps
    then upgrade
the issue with upgrade was that on Friday the servers were overwhelmed. When you upgrade the phone is backed up, deauthorized from ATT, its memory is whiped, 2.0 is installed, your files are placed bak and the phone is re-authorized with ATT. when the servers were swamped people could not re-authorize and hence ended up with a paperweight
The draw bcak from 2.0 is that the phone seems to run slower. Not much but noticebly so.

  • G4 Display Update - Worth the investment?

    Hi guys,
Running a PCI 350MHZ G4 with 1GB of RAM. Currently its running with the internal display chip and the machine is unable to play video at all (cant even stream from youtube)
Now id like to invest a mac pci graphics card, retailing for £30+
would the inclusion of a 64MB card enable to me to view video at all>?
one other thing...how can i make the god awful fan quieter?
    Thanks Again
    Tom

Hello! You'll be disappointed. Your machine has seen its best days. To have any real ability to watch modern video stuff you're gonna need a new processor in the 1-2 ghz range along with at least 1 gig of ram. Your pci machine is not worth sinking another chunk of cash into. Tom

  • Is the '11 update worth the hassle that I am reading?

I am a longtime iMovie user and am very hesitant to get the '11 upgrade after reading all of the reviews. I need factual opinions from fellow iMovie veterans. Thanks.

    jtcollins wrote:
.... I need factual opinions from fellow iMovie veterans. Thanks.
using iM since vers2 ... hope this is veteran enough ...
iM11 is actual the best version of iMovie-b (=iM-a is vers.≤6).
it handles my Cam's AVCHD video perfectly, offers all the 'effects' I need for my home-videos (mainly soccer game documentation), and is fully integrated into iLife suite of apps.
what it lacks: no option for plug-ins (as for more transitions), no option for add-ons (more Themes&Trailers as 'Jam Packs'), no integrated pointers (I'm using the well-known .png trick), the delivered, pre-defined Soccer-theme doesn't hit the needs of this sports (hey, the 'weight' of a player is nonsense, but what about goals, points, places?) ...
technically I don't notice any 'hassle'.

  • IOS 6.1 Worth Updating?

I have gotten a message for ios 6.1. I see the improvements to be able to purchase movie tickets through siri. and other things? Does siri come on this one? I guess not. Is this update worth updating now? I just installed the update for ios 6.0.1 about a week or two ago. Or should I just wait? Thanks! (ipod touch 4th generation)

    iOS 6.1 Software Update
"Does siri come on this one?"
    No.
    Why would you not update?

  • Is iOS 4 worth it for 3G owners?

Those that have updated, is the update worth it? Are you happy with the new additions? Seems like it's not that much of an update for 3G owners.
As far as the new email updates, do you have to have all your emails combined, or can you keep them separate like it is now? I don't really want all my email accounts combined.

Start with this review: http://arstechnica.com/apple/reviews/2010/06/ars-reviews-ios-4-whats-new-and-not able.ars
It includes a lot of 3GS only features, but does review the mail features, so you can see what it's like. (The mail section is on page three, about halfway down.)
It's been a mixed bag for me. Overall, it's worth it for the extra Exchange ActiveSync accounts and the threaded mail and the changes to the inbox navigation. Also, I like folders.
However, it will use more RAM and it won't help your performance any, and my phone felt sluggish on 3.1.3 before the update.
A tip, try to clear the large apps (over 50MB) and music off the phone before you do the upgrade, it'll help the time it takes and make things a lot smoother. You can just resync that stuff afterwards, but your backup will still include all your accounts and passwords.
So, definitely a tweak update. If you don't use multiple Exchange accounts, I'd wait for 4.0.1 or whatever.

  • Security Update 2008-007 Error When Installing...

I am running a MacBook with OS 10.4.11 and since it's release, I have not been able to install security update 2008-007. It downloads no problem but at the end of the installation process a message reads "an error occured while installing." No details or further info are displayed. I have tried the different links in the forum, auto software update, apple.com, and all multiple times. I've tried the permissions repair, restarting, etc and now I am out of patience and options. Is this a user error, computer error, or program error? Is this update worth the trouble or just wait until the next one? Thank you in advance for any help.

Try installing while booted in Safe Mode. Maybe something else is running that is interfering.

  • Leopard Graphics Update

Has anyone noticed an improvement in gaming on the Santa Rosa Macbook? Specifically, I was wondering if frame rates on WOW have improved.

    Danielle Lum1 wrote:
Trying to install the Leopard Graphics Update (via Software Update).
When I do, it gives me the following error:
The update "Leopard Graphics Update" can't be saved
You do not have the appropriate access privileges
The Installer package has been moved to the Trash
To try again, open the package from the Finder
I am the only user/administrator for this computer. It is not connected to a network, nor does it have any enabled sharing.
I just loaded up all the other updates from today (I think Garage Band, Keyboard Firmware, etc.) without problem or error message.
So here's my question: Is this update worth the aggravation of trying to figure out how to install it? If it is, what steps should I take to get it onto my system?
It's worth fixing only because it is a symptom of something else that is wrong. It's little things like this that should not be ignored because they may portend a larger issue.
I would first run DU and check the HD and also permissions verify/repair, if necessary.
You should also create another user account temporarily, with full admin privileges and see if you can install the Update via that user. If you can, then there is something wrong with your present admin account that must be fixed.
If not, then you have to proceed further, looking at the system logs, console, etc., for what it causing the problem.
It's important in keeping an OS running perfectly, never to go past an issue without resolving it.
This is often why upgrades or updates fail in the first place.
    Thanks!

  • Looping issues

Ok – I have a 2 bar drum loop, and I like the tempo of the loop. I am trying to keep that tempo and have all the beats – the “2” & “4” to line up on the grid. I can do this in other “Pro Tools & I’m not that good with Pro Tools – but having difficulty in Logic. I am sure there are several ways; I’m just missing them. I can change the audio file to work with but having problems with getting the loop to work. I’ve tried the “region” editing. Is there a way that Logic with do the “tab to transient” thing. As soon as I finish reading “Iliad and the Odyssey”, which is some what shorter than the Logic books I have maybe I’ll find it… until then… help… please
I have tried “beat mapping” and have changed the tempo of the loop.
I also have a problem auditioning loops within Logic. The loops are .wav files and this happens in both “import audio” or “audio window” The sounds are not intelligible and usually come from only one speaker. I am currently using Logic Pro 7.1.1
Is the update worth the $50.00 – I’m sure there’s a “new version” lurking right around the corner.

The best advice I can give you: buy some tutorial DVDs. CSI's Logic Pro tutorial is an eye opener to what Logic can do, and how to do it. www.sweetwater.com
