Where did it say that? If your computer meets the requirements you can install Snow Leopard and then install Lion via the Mac App store. They both cost $30

To anyone who's thinking about a memory upgrade on the NB550D:
The NB550D supports up to 4GB of memory, not only 2GB as mentioned by Toshiba in their specifications.
A memory upgrade to 2GB is _only limited_ by the pre-installed Windows 7 Starter OS, not by the netbook itself.
I'm using Linux Mint 11 Katya, 64bit and my system is running perfectly well with a 4GB ram module. If you want to use full 4 GB ram support, get rid of the Win 7 Starter OS.
The specification for higher volume ram is DDR3 1333MHz PC3-10600 SO-Dimm. I've chosen one 4GB module by Corsair, due to the 30 years warranty Corsair offers.
It took me quite a while to find this out, hope this is going to be a help to everybody who's just as unsecure as I was how to upgrade the NB550D memory. Good luck. ;o)

I can confirm this. Two days ago Ive installed own Win7 32bit Home Premium and upgraded my NB520 with 4GB RAM. 3GB are in usage now and notebook runs perfectly.
With original Win7 Starter version I have noticed annoying display behaviour while watching action movies. When the scene in the movie was without movement everything was ok but by action scenes some strange lines were shown on the screen.
Now after own OS installation everything works perfectly and Im so happy with my NB520.
I can just recommend it for everyday usage.
By the way: I use 4GB SO-DIMM DDR3-1333Mhz PC3-10600

Upgrade of Lightroom 4 with newest Camera Raws possible?

I'm still on Windows XP. My question: Can I buy Lightroom 4 and update Camera Raw files subsequently? Or is the only chance to use newest camera raws by using Lightroom 5? I want to get access to Olympus EM-5 Raw files (in addition to EOS 5D MII) and want to avoid for now changing the windows system.

Lightroom 4 is no longer sold. It would depend first on your being able to find a copy for sale. That said, you would only be able to upgrade your camera compatibility to LR 4.4.1. Any cameras added after 4.4.1 was released would be unavailable to you.
At this point the only alternative that allows you to remain on XP and continue to get the newest cameras is to download and implement in your workflow the free Adobe DNG Converter. It is XP compatible (at least for now) and allows access to the latest cameras, and its DNG files are backwards compatible to all versions of Lightroom.

How to fix common problems?
Sometimes programs will stop from working after the upgrade. For example VMware Player/Workstation may need to be reinstalled after the upgrade to work correctly, even if it is the same version as the malfunctioning program/driver. This applies to other programs and drivers as well. This is the first thing you should attempt.
Also try and see if you can upgrade to a newer available driver available on the Lenovo Driver website in case previous paragraph didn't help you. Windows 7/8 drivers may work, but it's recommended to have the latest drivers installed.

After upgrading to iOS 5, no Wi-Fi connection possible on iDevices.

Yesterday I upgraded my iPhone 4 to iOS5 and after that I couldn't connect to my Wi-Fi anymore. In the Wi-Fi settings the connecting symbol just keeps on rotating but I do see the Wi-Fi symbol in the top corner. But using per example Safari just ends in the fact that I don't have a connection with the internet. So I thought I will try again tomorrow but today the same. This morning I upgraded my iPad to iOS5 and suprisingly exact the same problem occurs.
Some things I already looked into:
My Mac is on the same Wi-Fi and does work.
My Wi-Fi worked on my iDevices before upgrading.
My Airport says it has 3 clients with excellent connections. (My iPhone, iPad and Mac).
Can't connect to other networks as well.
Tried a reset.
Tried a hard reset.
Tried switching airport modus off and back on.
Tried switching Wi-Fi off and back on.
Tried refreshing the lease.
Tried "forget network" and connecting again.
Tried "Restore networksettings" in the general settings.
So now my despair leads to here. I'm out of possible solutions.

I had this same exact problem with my iPhone 4 - I can connect to my wireless router (Airport Extreme) but unable to access the Internet. I went through the same troubleshooting steps with no luck. Like you my iMac was able to get to the Internet via the same router. When I looked at the connection details for the Airport Extreme connection it showed the DNS address as the same as the router's IP address (10.0.1.1) which I didn't think was right. I tried to change it manually, but I don't think it really took. So, I had a hunch the problem was with the connection to the Airport.
With that in mind, I swapped out my Airport Extreme for an old Linksys 802.11g wireless router I had and after connecting my iPhone to this alternate wifi I am now able to get on the Internet and use Safari just fine! One thing I noticed is that now with the Linksys router the DNS address is the IP address of the real/correct DNS server provided by Cable Internet service. Both routers were using the same WPA2 wifi security scheme.
So, at this point I have working wifi but I'm not sure what the real problem was and how to go back to my Airport Extreme. Could it be a bug in the iOS 5 Wifi interace that's preventing it from getting the correct DNS address? Or 802.11n vs g? I would check your DNS address on the iPhone and compare it to your other devices. Hope this helps.

Upgrading from MB to MBP - straight HD swap possible?

I'm upgrading from a MacBook to a MacBook Pro. I'll have both machines side-by-side for one day, then the MacBook is being picked up for return.
As I've spent so many hours setting up application preferences, mail settings, itunes library, fonts, etc etc... Would it be possible to simply swap the hard disks? I'm not expecting it to work, but then again, why not? They are both 100gb 5200rpm.
The only real difference I'd expect there to be is a lack of drivers for the x1600, though there are likely to be a million things I'm not thinking of!
What do you guys think? Good idea, or not worth the trouble?
I suppose the alternative would be to use software like SuperDuper! to sync the two drives somehow.

I've commented here, and blogged about migration assistant. I have only great thigns to say about it. OK I've only used it personally once, mac mini to mac book pro, but I know my local apple store used it to go from my original mac book pro to my second mac book pro.
I think it's is a simple elegant, ok a bit slow, solution that works amazingly. MS offer a files and settings transfer wizzard - but it pales in comparison to Migration assistant. Even my weird putting the date in the menu bar hack transfered, it was seriosuly like using the same machine.

I'm thinking about purchasing a used Macbook 2007 (MA895LL/A) 10.6.3 is currently the installed, will I be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion when it is released? How so? Would I have to upgrade to 10.7 first? (New to Macs, from Windows)

So OS X is bloating up now starting with 10.7 as it's a 64bit OS and no 3.5GB RAM limit like before, so your RAM limit of your older machine now has to be taken into consideration as a performance limitation.
Also 10.6 has Rosetta, you can still run older PPC programs (some you can't get anymore) with 10.6, but not 10.7 and beyond.
Some people have upgraded to 10.7 only to howl in pain as half their software and third party hardware drivers no longer work.

BTW, you can put 2 3-GB RAM modules in that machine for 6GB, Apple only says 4GB as that's all they had at that time.

I can tell you not too many happy campers on 10.7, it's rather depressing with it's gray/black backgrounds and not friendly to desktop UI users
Spaces and Exposé is GONE in 10.7 for something called Mission Control which isn't quite as good as you can't see 4 or 16 screens at once like Spaces did.
OS X is turned more like a iPad UI too.
Anyway it takes some getting used too, you might want to employ it on new hardware instead.

Hello, I have Thinkpad W520. I'm interested two things. First is CPU upgrade. Which is highest CPU for this model? And Can I upgrade to 3rd generation CPU? As I see Ivy Bridge CPU use same socket. Second is RAID. I havent RAID option on my laptop. Is it possible to add this option?And last question I have warranty. Is it possible throught warranty upgrade CPU and setup RAID? Of course not for free.

AFAIK, you can only upgrade within the Sandy Bridge generation. RAID is integral to the motherboard (you'd have to replace the motherboard with one that has RAID).
I don't think warranty does upgrades.
