Is using a travel router for wifi as easy as plugging it in?

Is using a travel router for wifi use on iPad as easy as plugging it in?

Your question is not very clear but I assume you are talking about turning a wired hotel internet connection into WiFi that you can access with your iPad. If this is the case, and you have already set up the WiFi connection 0 meaning you can already connect to it with the iPad - then yes. You would plug the wired Internet into the WAN port of the router and power it up. You iPad should see it and be able to connect.
You may still need to log in to access anything other than the Hotel's landing page if they have one.

  • Does anyone use a Celluar Travel Router for wifi connecton?

    Hi!
I did some further research into this and you can have access to cell phone networks to create a wifi connection for the iPod Touch.
Does this really do the trick with having constant wifi when you're traveling or on the go?
    Any advice would be great!
    Thank You!

Yes, you do need to have a cell account and cell data plan for this to work.
I want to know if anyone uses this feature to create their instant wifi Hotspots?
    Thanks!

  • Can I use my Time Capsule for wifi parental control?

Can I use my Time Capsule for WiFi parental control.  The objective first is to use a time clock to control internet access (completely on or off).  Second objective is to use the Time Capsule which is also the WiFi router for more selective internet control?  Anyone out there have any tips on making this work?  We have Time Warner cable feeding the house internet, which is then corrected to the 2Tb Time Capsule which also provides our WiFi.  Any information including other alternatives would be most appreciated.  Surely we are not the only parents on the planet with this issue.  Thanks very much!

how do I get the Mac addresses for each device (this won't be a problem, I demand the device, check it, and then return it).
What wireless devices are we looking at here?
Most devices have the AirPort ID or MAC Address or Hardware Address printed on the back or bottom of the device
Otherwise, you can learn the correct number by process of elimination. Turn off all wireless devices except your Mac computer....if it is connecting using wireless.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon
Look for Wireless Clients and click on the numerical IP address that is displayed
    Another box will open
Look for the Hardware Address. It will be displayed as xx : xx : xx : xx :xx : xx
Write that down and note that it is your Mac.
Now, connect another wireless device and repeat the sequence.  Click on the "other" listing that you see to find out more info about that device.  Write down the ID or Address and note what device it is. Then power it off.
Do the same for each wireless device that you want to have limited access.
Post back when you have all the info.

  • I want to set up the time capsule. I have a D-Link router for WiFi to laptops. Do I connect the time caps to the D-Link or in place of it? thanks

You've posted to the iPhone forum rather than the Time Capsule forum, but to save you some time, you can either replace your D-Link with it since it is a wireless N router, or you can set it up on your LAN as an additional wifi router with its own unique SSID.  If you do the latter, be sure to connect your mac to the Time Capsule rather than your D-Link so it will support your Time Machine backups.

  • I purchased a time capsule last year and we have been using for our backup of our apple devices (iMac, laptop, iPad and now 5 iPhones).  we have not used it as our router for wifi but would like to now switch to it. need directions for switching please.

i am using time capsule for backup only but would like to switch to it for our wifi.  directions on apple discuss original set up of time capsule for wi fi but not switching from existing wi fi router.  were can i get help with this?

Well, it depends on what ISP you use.
Reply back with your ISP and connection type (cable, ADSL). Also, do you use an ISP router or do you have a modem connected to a router that you provide?

  • Using wgr101 travel router, i get unable to join network

I can connect to this travel router ok using my laptop and desktop.
my iphone happily connects to other wifi networks
however, when i select the travel router from my iphone, i get a message saying
unable to join the network 'netgear travel'
    any ideas please?

Well, that's not good at all. You need to have at least WPA. I did a little research on this router, and apparently it will support WPA. Also, it has a "single" user mode. The implication here is that it will allow only one connection at a time. So, two things to check: 1. Can you set this up with at least WPA & make sure you're broadcasting the SSID, & 2. Is this in single user mode.

  • Using an alternative router for bt inifinity 2

Is it possible for me to go back to using my last ISPs talktalk super router (built in fibre modem) as currently using a hub 5 and my kids on their consoles having problems staying connected and when they are connected half the time the nat type is moderate where as when I was using the super router we had no problems at all? If so do I just plug it in and connect or do I need to do something within the router?

If it is a VDSL modem and not locked to talktalk, then yes. User name is [email protected], password not required unless the router requires one, in which case BT will suffice.

  • Wagetypes used in Travel Management for Country grouping 40 (India)

    Dear Consultants,
May I know which model wagetypes are to be used for Travel management for country grouping 40 (India). For Country Grouping 10 (US) we have MJ10 to MJ95. I created some wagetypes & set their characteristics similar to those in MJ10 to M95 but it does not work well.
Is there any simple process to go from Wagetypes > symbolic accounts > GL Accounts.
    Regards,
    Bindumadhav

That's my guess, as it worked for me:
It doesn't compile, because there's a bug in the structure of the PNP logical database.
Payroll result structure specific to your country is not listed as a 'possible type' for LDB node 'Payroll'.
You can correct it easily in tracaction SE36. Choose PNP, tab: 'Structure'.
Double-click on 'PAYROLL'. Click on 'Possible types'.
    Add country-specific structure (PAYIN_RESULT).
    Tell me what happened
PS. Be aware that this is a modification to the system and you need a key for this object.

I would like to keep some hotel confirmation number letters, invoices , boarding info. etc. and keep them all in one place together for a trip abroad.

  • I can use my time capsule for wifi, but can't connect for backup

I have been using my TC for a couple of years now, always as a router and backup disk.  I went on a long trip then came back and tried to connect to it, I can use the wifi, but I can't connect to the disk to see it or use it for backups.  I also have a PC connected to the TC and I can see the contents on there through explorer.
    Any ideas would be appreciated...

  • Use WRP400 (VoIP Router) for Voice only, and the rest with WRT54GL

Hey there, I hope you are doing great!
The reason of this thread is because I recently moved to a cable ISP and unfortunately had to also change routers in order to take advantage of the VoIP feature (analog phone) they provided me with.
Now, the new router, the WRP400, is very limited feature-wise compared to the custom flashed WRT54GL I used to use with my DSL provider.
Now the WRT54GL does not have any FXS ports, so I obviously can't just plug my cable modem to the WRT54GL. Therefore, I was hoping to achieve a setup similar to this one:
Cable modem => VoIP Router w/ voice only (WRP400) => "Main" router (WRT54GL w/ Tomato)
Is there a way to bridge the WRP400 successfully with the WRT54GL keeping only the voice feature enabled on the VoIP router while the WRT54GL takes care of the rest? (Wireless, WAN, port forwarding, etc)
Thank you very much for your help, and have an awesome day!
    Lev

I am going to provide a few snapshots of the config pages as to make this easier:
    Basic setup page
    Advanced Settings
    Administration Page
Once more, thank you very much for the assistance!

  • I use my time capsule for wifi station and back up. However suddely time machien can no longer find the time captule drive , used for back up...

Time machiene can no longer find the back up files on my time captule..
I have have manged to see the files via finder.
dleted the files, and also gave time captule a new name, and pasword.
All seemd fine but somehow the new back up could not be finished.
Repeated all the steps, but now had the  computer hooked up to the time captule with a network kabel ( make it go quicker..)
    Still no succes...
Seems somhowe acces to the time captule is difficult for the time machien software...

  • I have used my 2TB TC for wifi and as principal backup disk for Time Machine for a few years.  I would now like to begin using another external HD for Time Machine.  My question is.... Can I repurpose the Time Capsule to use as storage for libraries?

For example - I plan to use 2TB TC to house my iTunes Media Library and iPhoto Libraries - permitting access from my network.

I believe based on your notes that I need to forget about moving the iPhoto library.... even though I have found in Apple support:
    http://help.apple.com/iphoto/mac/9.5/#pht6d607c42
That document says.. and I quote.
You can move your entire iPhoto library to a different computer, a hard disk, or another location on your computer.
Note that none of those locations are network.
A different computer is not network.. a hard disk is a location on the same computer as is computer location.. they are saying the same thing.
Here is what apple says about networks.. which I referenced above.. and Bob referred to.
It's recommended that you store your iPhoto library on a locally mounted hard drive. Storing your iPhoto library on a network share can lead to poor performance, data corruption, or data loss.
These are not inconsistent.. you can move the library.. what you cannot do is use it from a network location.. it must be locally mounted.
And do you think the new Photos will change any of this  (though presently I am still on 10.9.5)
This is what we don't know yet.. it does look like photos will be more network aware.. do you want to be on the bleeding edge and discover it fails??
You can use any drive you like locally for TM backups.. however if you plug that drive into the TC and make it a network drive then it will become super slow.. since the TC only has USB2 port. You also cannot use TM backups on a local drive and then move it to the network.. TM backs up differently in network cf local drives.
You must partition the drive. If you want to use the one and same drive for both backups and files, partition it before hand.  if you mix the backups with actual data files on the same drive.. you have no backups if the drive fails.. You must have all files on at least 2 drives. For iphoto let me suggest more than 2.. since photos are irreplaceable and it is so easy for things to go wrong.. including fire, flood and theft. Make up a USB drive and park it with relatives.

  • How can i remove un/pw for wifi when teachers use their own logins for wifi connection.

I work at a public school district and each of our teachers have ipads. They user their usernames and passwords to connect to our networks wifi. I am needing to remove the username and password of last years teachers so the new teacher can sign in with theirs. I tried the suggestion of: Settings, General, Reset and Reset all Networks but when I go back i to sign into the wifi connection it is still automatically connecting to the previous users.

Have you talked with your networking it specialist?  Perhaps the router is keying off the MAC address.
