Is video encoding bad for my laptop A8-3500m processor?

I use freeware to convert videos from various formats to mp4 (Any Video Converter). Movies can take up to 1 and a half hours, but during the entire time my CPU usage hovers around 95% and the vents become quite warm. Should I stop video encoding? Or is it okay if I continue what I do now (no more than one movie a day)? I have the HP Pavilion dv6-6117dx laptop. AMD A8 3500m @1.5 GHz, 8 GB DDR3 SDRAM

If you keep your car in the garage it will last longer, too. As long as the system is cooled you will be OK. A computer CPU can safely run at 95% load for years on end. Booting it up and shutting it down causes more wear than running it at peak performance. After all, there are no moving parts in the processor. The internet is run on farms of servers that run at peak performance most of the time. It will move a lot of air through the system and may capture a lot of dust so you need to keep it clean by blowing it out with compressed air once every 6 months or so.

  • Most efficient video encoding format for Zen: Vis

Howdy everybody, I just bought a Zen Vision: M and am currently playing with all its many features. I want to put movies/tv shows onto it. I've used DVD Decrypter to rip a DVD now I need to change it to something the Zen can play.
Rather than start researching, I thought I'd try the forums first, as I'm sure somebody here knows what I'm looking for.
So my question is: What's the best format for converting such large files like movies? What will result in the smallest file size while still being good for viewing? Also, what program do you recommend to do the converting?
    Thanks!

You can play the file directly from FMS as VOD. Also you can write your own action script publisher which can take input from any device and can stream to FMS but Flash player does not support many functionality like FMLE. It can stream VP6 video only.

I've already fixed three issues in the bash source (adding '-ao dummy' to the mplayer identify calls, commenting out the ghostscript errors, since I know I have the ghostscript fonts, and adding a 'k' after each -ab option, e.g. change -ab 384 to -ab 384k).

  • Encoder optimized for mac intel?

Flash 8 video encoder on current mac machines with intel
processors seems 6 times slower than on a pc - it's not optimized
    at all for mac intel.
Has anyone done perfomance tests with the new encoder? mac
intel for now is not mentioned anywhere on Flash CS3 product
    pages.

I've just downloaded the flash cs3 trial to try out the new
    encoder.
Although it looks like it is intel (you can use flv.component
with intel quicktime pro/final cut export) it is only using one
    core.
I did a quick test of a 2 min 720p hd file and it took more
than 15 minutes to encode. CPU was only showing 1 core active, that
was on 2ghz core 2 duo. Ill try it later on a G5 but if its not
using the other cores I cant see it being much better.
I was hoping it would be faster, i've tried ffmpeg &
    thats no better.
Anyone tried through parallels - is windows quicker?

  • Encode Rates For Replicated DVD

We're about to send off a master DVD-R to replicate a DVD.
I've been told, but can't confirm, that I can go sky high on my video encode rates for replicated DVDs.
That's the opposite of what I've read for duplicating DVDs.
Any of those out there confirm that I can go to 8 or 9 mbps for an under 1 hour DVD with Dolby2 audio?
Or should I stay at 7.0 as I've always done.
    thanks

HI David - if going to replication on DLT then you can max out the bit rate if you wish to... however you need to think about whether you need to.
There is a law of diminishing returns here - anything above about 8mbps and I doubt anyone except a well trained 'eye' could see any difference in the quality. All you'll be doing is increasing the file size. Also, it's worth remembering that there are still players which have trouble reading higher rates off a replicated disc (check the DVD FAQ - section 1.41 makes for interesting reading, although not all of these are down to high bit rates, of course).
I tend to encode at various rates with short samples of material and look for the differences. Where I can't see any, I opt for the lower rate. So far this has served me well!
Don't forget that a duplicated disc is using a very different material for the reflective layer and it is far less reflective than a replicated disc. This is largely why you need to keep the duplicated disc bit rate low - players struggle to read the higher bit rates from the less reflective surface and so stutter on playback.
Personally, if you can't see any difference between 7mbps and 9.8mbps I'd advise staying at 7. If there is a difference for your footage then try again with 8mbps, but don't be lulled into a false sense of security over the fact that a replicated disc should be able to have 10.08mbps combined bitrate... the quality of the player is really the issue. Whilst most will, some won't, though all should!

  • Live Video encoder for Mac.  Does it exist?

Looking to d a live video stream. Would like to use Vp6 I do not think Adobe had a Flash video encoder for the mac.
As always, thanks for your time and help.

    There is no Airscan :-)
but you can scan wirelessly on any your OS compatible network scanner of MFP printer with a scanner.
This has to be connected to your network either via WiFi or Eth cable.

  • Flash Video Encoder conflict with Safari for Windows

I installed Safari for Windows (AMD/Windows XP) without the
options (no Bonjour) and found that it disabled Adobe Flash Video

disk, 1 keeps asking for disk 1). Uninstalled Quicktime, didn't
help. Uninstalled Safari, rebooted, still can't get Flash Encoder
    working.

    timtro;
Many (myself included)won't be installing safari/win until

  • Best Quicktime settings for Video Encoder?

This is to reiterate the issue originally posted under
    this
    topic.
Summary: CS3 encoded FLV (using Quicktime movie as source)
stops playing halfway through (likely related to the audio)...
Solution: Set audio of Quicktime movie to 44.100 kHz (not
22.050) sample rate before encoding to FLV.
Continued Issue: Is Adobe working on a fix to the Flash
Video Encoder so that all Quicktime settings are supported?
Question: Any recommendations for the "best" Quicktime
video/audio settings (codecs, frame rate, etc.) for FLV encoding to
optimize quality and minimize file size?

    Voddie,
I'm definitely no expert; so if others have better info, I
hope they will post too. And the guidance below is from a Mac
    perspective.
    Using
Quicktime Pro, you can export each movie and adjust the
Options. Under the Quicktime Options (see this
    screen
    image
for the two settings windows that you will access), the Sound
Options is where you'll set the sample rate to 44.100 kHz, then
    save the file(s).
If Quicktime Pro is not available, you might look into
    ffmpegX
as an option (though I have not tried this myself).
Note: I read that for version MX, it was recommended that the
Quicktime sound be uncompressed, or encoded using ALaw 2:1 or ADPCM
codecs. I'm not sure if this is true for CS3. Again, I hope others
    will chime in.

  • Video Encoding/Capture software for Quicktime movie format

    Hi,
We are exploring using the Quicktime .mov format for encoding live video & audio. It seems that QuickTime for Windows only allows recording Audio. The new Movie Recording option under the File menu which is present in the Mac version is not available on the Windows version. I want to find out if anyone knows of any good encoding software for the Quicktime .mov format. We want to record in either H.264 format or better quality and we want to use 240 kbps (or better) data rate.

I used the cd-rom option and it worked!
... ALL iM's preset do work for youtube uploads...
    but...:
youtube videos have a certain size, allow certain framerates, and get converted into flash-video format.. therefore, the input-format should fullfill some minimum quality ...
e.g. this video (a filmschool project with some REALLY sad story... ehm, well, film-school... )
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvdiQrddZ7o
was uploaded with "my" settings .. done with a 3ccd miniDV camcorder and edited in iMovie...

  • How big a drive for 3 hours of video encoded with animation codec?

Sorry if this seems a strange question - but I've run out of fingers and toes to count on.
I'm planning a video project that will have approx three hours of selected video to work with. Will be cut down to approx 90 minutes.
The video will be include a lot of chroma keying and also be graphic heavy. Many alpha channels.
I have determined the best work method is to upload the video using the Apple Animation codec. I am reliably informed that said Animation codec is a hungry bugger and eats up drive space.
Can anyone with more toes and fingers than me give me a ballpark for how big an external drive I should budget for this?
So to recap that's a a minimum of three hours of video encoded using the Apple Animation codec plus all the graphics, audio and rendering.
    Many thanks.
    A.S

The Animation codec isn't an editing codec. You'll have a DICKENS of a time trying to work with that.  Besides needing VERY fast drives...I'm talking a 4-5 drive RAID with 300+MB/s throughput (Firewire won't cut it...eSATA would be pushing it..thunderbolt? Pushing it)...it'd still stutter on playback. No one edits with that codec. I mean no one. It's a good way to transport media LOSSLESSLY, but when editing...best to use an Editing Codec.  As Michael said, ProRes 4444 would be good...even ProRes HQ is good enough quality. I deliver shows to air in that codec.

I'm trying to convert a WMV file into Flash.  I know that this can be done using DW8's Flash Video Encoder ....but it seems this function is no longer availabe in CS5.

  • Incredibly slow rendering in Media Encoder CS4 for Mac

We're having a strange problem trying to render a Premiere Pro CS4 project in Adobe Media Encoder . We're doing a 720p H.264 file that is about 35 minutes long. On my macbook pro laptop it took about 24 hours to render. As an aside, the same sequence and quality level in our previous editing method using avisynth and x264 only took about 2 hrs, but that's another story.
So, we figured we would bring in the big guns and render it on our 8-core mac pro desktop. Turns out it's estimating the render at 34 hours and the CPUs are 70% idle on average. So, what gives? What in the heck is wrong with Adobe Media Encoder that it is going even slower on our Mac Pro? We even copied all the files to our local 7200 RPM sata internal disc just in case the problem was due to a slow NAS device, but that didn't help it at all.
We've run all updates, so we're running on the latest version of the encoder.
    Any ideas?

OK, here is an update. The original estimate for the single-disk setup was up to 75 hrs before we halted it. This is way slower than my laptop doing the same thing, so I think something is wrong.
We put in four separate 7200 RPM internal sata disks now: one for scratch files, one for video source #1, one for video source #2 (we have a sort of picture-in-picture thing going on on this video), and one for Premiere Pro to run from. Yet we're still seeing low CPU utilization and high time estimates.
    Any ideas?
