Is Vista XFi Install disk need

Hey all,
After 6 months, I've finally finished my new(?) build, which includes vista ultimate & an XFi fatality. The SC was my first purchase 6 months ago & didn't include a vista install disk, however do I need one? Can I just install the latest downloaded drivers & alchemy & start playing? TIA.
tryggvi

I hope you are running on less than 4GB of RAM. Otherwise, you are probably going to have issues. There's plenty of threads on that, so I'll skip it unless you ask about it.
Yes, you can install the latest drivers that you downloaded from Creative. The install disk has other software programs on it, such as THX console. If you need any of the other programs, search for "YouP-PAX."

  • Need to find 10.5.2 install disk, Need to find 10.5.2 install disk

I replaced a dead hard drive and need to re-install 10.5.2 i guess to start. Help!

Phone AppleCare and order replacements. Mac OS X 10.5.2 never shipped on a retail DVD.
Alternatively, you can use a retail 10.5.4, 10.5.6, or 10.6 DVD, but those won't install iLife.

  • Windows Vista install disk for my Mac?

I have just installed Windows vista onto my Mac but when using boot camp it only gives me the option of creating a Windows 7 install disk.  Does anybody know where I can get a Windows Vista install disk?  Thanks

No doubt if you Google for it you will find vendors. Check with amazon.com, too.

  • Windows Vista Installed, Can't Get Drivers, Won't Read 10.4.8 Install Disk

    Hello.
I've searched the forums and haven't found an answer yet. I installed Windows Vista 32-bit using Boot Camp on my Mac Pro. That part was fine but I cannot get the drivers to load from my install disk (10.4.8). This is a totally legit copy.
The install disk opens fine in OS X, but when in Windows, nothing. Reads as a blank disk. I tried downloading a Boot Camp update (BCUpdateVista32). It's an .exe file but won't open in Windows.
    Help!

That part was fine but I cannot get the drivers to load from my install disk (10.4.8).
The Mac OS X 10.4 disks don't contain Boot Camp drivers. Insert a Mac OS X 10.5 installation disk and get the drivers from it.

Because your software is far too old for Windows 7.

  • Need to restore TM backup to 2nd HD w/o install disks (1 mac)

    hi all,
i've run into a quandry. my powermac g5 primary drive (OSX10-5) is throwing i/o errors. i have a recent TM backup, and would like to restore it to my secondary drive (MacOS), and reboot from that drive. then i can work on the primary drive. the panther install on MacOS no longer boots, so i want get 10.5 on that drive.
my dvr-116d cannot read my leopard install disk (nor any other disk). i have a WD mybook -- it's my TM drive. (how about that for irony?) i followed the thread on the WD and DVR mis-interaction, but none of the suggested fixes have worked (no WD plist file to delete, have updated drivers and firmware, rebooted without drive, etc). thus, i can't restart from the leopard install disk. my other systems are all snow leopard, which won't run on the g5, so that rules out the 2nd mac method.
i have made few attempts without success. first, using disk utility (DU), i tried to create an image from the TM OSX10-5 backup. it hung after 30 hours of "creating disk image..." second, i tried using TM restore to different target to put the files on MacOS, and ended up with /Volumes/MacOS/OSX10-5. using DU again, i turned that into a disk image, reformatted MacOS, and restored from that disk image. the result won't boot properly (system tries to booth, then powers off in about 15 seconds). on reflection, the FAQ did say "to restore a data-only volume to an alternate location", so i shouldn't have expected it to work. i'm currently looking into migration assistant...
the primary disk is on borrowed time, so i'd be grateful for any/all ideas/help. (too bad i can't just dd the backup onto a reformatted volume like the old days.)
    many thanks,
    bert

Another alternative for booting the Leopard install disc would be to "borrow" the DVD drive from one of your newer computers via FireWire Target Disk mode. You would need an appropriate Firewire cable that could connect the two computers.
In this situation you can't set up FireWire Target Disk mode with the Intel as the host computer, but you should still be able to use TDM "the other way", using the computer with the functioning DVD drive as the TDM target and and running the Leopard DVD from the G5 as host. The newer Intel Mac is used only for its DVD drive, and is otherwise totally passive.
To try this, you could do the following:
Shut down the G5. Insert the Leopard DVD into the other computer, and restart the other computer while holding down the T key, booting the other computer into FireWire Target Disk Mode . Connect it to the G5 with the FW cable, and then start the G5 while holding down the Option key. This should boot the G5 into the startup manager, and hopefully you will see the Leopard OS X install DVD as one of the startup choices. Select that, and try to boot from it.

  • Install disk doesn't work with Windows Vista

I just bought a new HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw and the install disk isn't compatible with Windows Vista.  Apparently there's no ful feature option for Windows Vista on an HP laptop.  After several hours of work I downloaded several drivers and got the printer to print, but the scan function doesn't work that well without the HP software which hasn't been created for Windows Vista.

I am having a very similar problem but do not have an answer either.  I am running an X61 Type 7676A12 with a Lenovo ACP50 port replicator FRU part number 40Y8160.  I am running Windows XP Pro.  The port replicator has never been very great and would not restore the external monitor picture properly when the laptop had been in sleep mode however it was serviceable if not optimal.  After downloading and installing the October MS security updates the machine would get a BSOD when the port replicator was plugged in.  Remove the replicator and reboot and it worked ok.  Plug it in again and BSOD.  I tried upgrading the drivers from 5.1.4a to 7.1.1.03Aug07 and then to 7.1.2.  No go.  Emailing Targus with the problem got no response.  The port replicator is now relegated to my junk heap of useless rubbish.

  • Yosemite won't install on my computer because the disk needs to be repaired. I verify, it indicates repair is needed but then the repair disk button can't be clicked. I tried to start in safe mode but it just froze.

I'm to install Yosemite but it tells me the disk need to be repaired. When I verify the repair disk button remains pale and in-clickable. I'm not sure which version of OS X I'm running but I do know I forgot to back up. Help me o-message board, you're my only hope!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
First of all, open the Apple menu -> About this Mac, and tell us what OS X version you have.
If it is 10.6.x, you need the Snow Leopard DVD. Insert it, press the C key while your Mac is starting up, choose your language and go to Utilities menu (in the menu bar) -> Disk Utility.
If it is 10.7.x or higher, hold down Command and R keys while your Mac is starting up to boot up in OS X Recovery, and open Disk Utility.
After opening Disk Utility, choose your OS X partition in the sidebar (it is usually named "Macintosh HD") and press "Repair Disk". When it has finished, restart your Mac, make a backup of your files and try upgrading to OS X Yosemite.
The backup will help you in case you decide to go back to the OS X version you are using now. If you cannot make a backup and the disk repair does not work, you will have to format the hard disk.

  • Can't boot from install disk and I need to reinstall OS X 10.4

I am trying to boot from the install disk by restarting the computer and holding down the c button. It won't start up from the disk. I get a white screen and an icon that is a circle with a line through it. I am having that problem on all my iMacs in my lab and I don't know why. Help Please!!! thanks.

Sorry for all of the posts.. but it could be possible that the firmware is password protected - disabling users in the computer lab from corrupting programs? I found this article and it might help.. (http://www.fif3.com/howto/archives/001983.html) Some of the article is below....
ALSO: if you use open firmware password... you'll need this:
Startup Manager -accessed by pressing the Option key during startup
Enter commands after starting up in Open Firmware -press Command-Option-O-F key combination during startup.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106482
How to troubleshoot a computer with Open Firmware Password enabled
If you cannot access the Open Firmware Password application and need to troubleshoot your computer by:
    Resetting the PRAM
    Starting up in Single-user mode
    Starting up in Verbose mode
    Starting from CD-ROM
    Then follow these steps:
Start up into Open Firmware by pressing and holding the Command-Option-O-F key combination during startup.
At the Open Firmware prompt, type: reset-nvram
    Press Return.
When prompted for your password, enter it and press the Return key. It responds OK.
At the Open Firmware prompt, type: reset-all
    Press Return.
The computer restarts and you are now be able to reset the PRAM and startup in Single-user mode, Verbose mode, or from CD-ROM.

  • I have an old iMac that won't boot up anymore.  I have the OS X install disks but I can't get it to boot from these disks.  No need to save anything.  Any suggestions?

I have an old iMac.  Not sure of the operating system but the install disks say OS X.  The computer will not boot anymore and all I keep getting is to restart and when I do I keep getting the same message.  I do have the install disks but I can't get the computer to install, or for that matter, read the disks.  I would like to rebuild the computer from these disks so that I can continue to use this computer.  There is no need to save anything on the computer as I backed it up months ago.  Any suggestions as to how I can save this computer and not have to recycle it?

Really need to know what version of OS X it is currently running, and what version you are trying to install.

  • Need to wipe out HD but don't have install disk? I have lion 10.7.5

Need to wipe out HD but don't have the install disk? I want to sell my Macbook Pro 15 inch. I have the orginal disk it came with but it's leopard and I have seens then upgraded to Lion. Now I can't find Lion and the install disk (leopard) tells me you can't you this disk. So does ANYONE out there know anyway I can work around this???
I have tried the recovery HD by rebooting (holding down opiton and R) but it dosn't do anything but restart the comptuer.
    Am I doing something wrong?

First, if you purchased Lion at the app store, the license is not transferable - it is forever tied to your Apple ID. So you can't sell the machine with Lion on it (there is no install disk for Lion anyway). You do need to reinstall the original OS so the buyer can purchase Lion with their own Apple ID.
As for your problem with the install disk - you do need to boot from another disk in order to erase your hard drive. Have you tried to insert it and then go to System Preferences > Startup Disk > select it and then hit restart?

I deleted my Iphoto and need to get it back! I bought this mac book off my sister and have none of the install disks. If there a download or something that I can get to reinstall it?

Depending on the age of your machine and the version of iPhoto, you may be able to download it from the App Store - but you'll need her account details to do so.
Other than that you'll need to purchase it on the App Store.

You have an 24" Early 2008 iMac. It came with Mac OS X 10.5, and you would need the disk set for your specific model. It's possible that if you call Apple Support, they can still sell you a set, but that model of iMac is no longer supported by Apple so Support may not be able to help. If not, then you'll need to look to private sellers or companies that sell obsolete software.
You can also call the online Apple Store and purchase a retail copy of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.
    Regards.
