Is Website Data and Freq. Visited Accurate?

My partner is very offended by **** yet he has at least 6 on his website data and had a site (KindGirls) on his frequently visited sites show up.  He denies all of it though I said it was best to admit rather than not.  He is very against all of that (he says) and doesn't know why they are in the website data or showing up as frequently visited. He's only had phone 2 months or so and laptop is windows so icloud sharing. He does use google and has a gmail account.  Is he being truthful or is there any chance it is not accurate?  All my website data history is accurate on all devices.

Its not different. Clearing Cookies and Data in one fell swoop from the settings clears all of it at once. You also have the option of clearing cookies or any of the website data individually in the Advanced settings.
If you were having a problem with one particular website, you could go into the Advanced settings and clear the data for just that one site if you wanted to do so, or clear the data for selected websites. When you do it from the Clear Cookies and Data setting - you clear all of it at once, for all websites that you have visited.

  • HT1677 What is website data and why am I storing it?

In Safari advanced settings I have 14MB of website data.  Some entries have a large amount of data such as mail.google.com with 4.3 MB.  Google Mail in Safari is web based and I have no offline content except 1 small unread message in my inbox.  My contacts are not available when wifi or mobile is not connected so what is the "Webdata" and what would I delete if I deleted it?

  • Safari clearing history, website data, and cookies

I guess I'm trying to find out how to tell the developers of Yosemite to go backwards and allow us to clear history without losing all the website data and cookies. In Maverick, at the end of the day, I cleared my history, and it only cleared my browsing history; I didn't have to sign in again on all the sites I visit. Yosemite is working fine for me except for this one issue. I believe we users should have the option of clearing just the browsing history, and letting us choose to clear website data and cookies. Any ideas on this?

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Netflix app error - Please make sure network connectivity and date and time are accurate

Am getting this error message when trying to view instant movies via ipad2 or iphone.  Anyone have this error?  I can't connect to Netflix via either device - I've tried unistalling & re-installing Netflix app on both devices.  I  am connected to the internet via our home network and date & time are correct on all devices & home computer - any other setting I'm missing?  I didn't have any of these problems before I installed the new iOS5 on my devices.  Netflix said it's an apple operating setting that needs to be modified.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    HI Jason,
I feel for you. That's a lot of work!
How large is the partition you tried to create using BootCamp for Windows?
And how much free disk space is on the MacBook startup disk?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.
Just in case, check the Mac startup disk for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart

  • Why does my  iphone safari settings show I have website data from websites I have never been to?

I have an iphone 4, and I was looking at the advanced safari settings. While scrolling through the website data and I noticed a few bizarre sites that I know I never went to. Is there some explanation for this?
    Thanks

Many web sites display content from several sites.

  • Safari bug regarding "Website Data"

I've run into a bug with Safari on iOS 6 with my 4th generation iPad where performance noticeably degrades after a certain amount of time using Safari. It becomes noticeable when multiple tabs no longer hold their information so that when you go back to a tab it has to reload the site page data. This will occur even with just a two or three tabs. Another symptom, and the one that caught my attention first, is when scrolling up and down through pages images do not smoothly come into view but have to partially reload causing like a snapping movement as you scroll through images on the page. It's more noticeable the faster you scroll.
Those two symptoms seemed to point to a memory issue in Safari so I tried closing the app completely and restarting it with no success. I also tried restarting the iPad and still no success. All that was left that I could do was to try deleting "History" and "Cookies and Data" in Safari's settings. Again, no success. Then I went into "Advanced" on the same settings screen and under that option you have "Website Data" and the option to view and delete that data. So, I deleted all of it and shazam, success! Safari then worked smoothly with the fastest scrolling showing images and pages as they should when scrolling and many tabs then being able to be open without them being blanked out.
It's still apparently a memory issue though that is somehow tied into "Website Data," which is strange because that data is very tiny in size for all sites. The issue is not progressive in appearance as it activates randomly. In other words, one moment the browser is working just fine and then it isn't. It has nothing to do with how long you use Safari. It also doesn't have anything to do with the amount of "Website Data" but looks to be the data from specific sites since the bug will pop up with just a handful of site's in "Website Data" and at other times when there are a lot more sites listed.
Anyway, this bug has been reported to Apple Feedback and I just wanted to share it with the forum for others that are experiencing the same thing and have not been able to resolve the issue. The solution of deleting all "Website Data" is 100% repeatable and 100% resolves the issue. Safari performance is completely restored.

Just wanted to add that I have just reproduced the same issue when there was no "Website Data" stored. I closed Safari and then cleared history and cookies and data and it was back to normal, unlike the first time I encountered it when doing that did nothing until I deleted "Website Data." So there seems to be some connection in resolving the issue as "Website Data" may needs to deleted or empty to begin with before deleting history and cookies and data has any effect.
Again, it looks like some kind of memory issue affecting Safari that when doing the steps I described it releases memory in some way.

  • Safari website data repopulates

So, I want to clear the website data from my iPhone. I go to Settings|Safari|Advanced|Website Data and select Remove All Website Data. 30 minutes later, I go back to look and it's all there, as if I didn't clear it.
    Anyone know why?

Thanks for your reply, I have already tried the things you suggested.
It looks like after over nine hours of investigation I may have found the solution. Get rid of Avast Anti-Virus!
It seems to be something to do with thier web shield preventing conection to the net. Also one of my mail accounts turned out to be affected aswell.
Turning off thier web shield and mail shield has cured the problem but now I have less protection than before, so i will go back to using Sophos and Bit Defender and stop looking for a perfect solution to security. The grass always looks greener they say, but not in this case.
    Thanks again, appreciate the help.

  • Safari Cookies - Removing Website Data

I dont know if Im going to be able to explain this correctly but as usual an Apple tech started fooling around with my computer and as usual created new problems.
I know that you can go to Safari Preferences/Privacy/Remove Website Data and click on Details to remove cookies/data from certain websites.  Ive always been able to do this without any problems.  Id just search and/or highlight whatever I wanted to remove, click it, and then remove...DONE.
Well now Im having a problem with I click on Details....The websites keep appearing and disappearing...Its the strangest thing thats hard to explain or describe without someone seeing it.  Ill search for a website that I know for sure is there..but it wont show up or it will show up and then disappear as soon as I try to move my cursor.  I also notice that the "menu" above where it says General/Appearance/Tabs/RSS etc is grayed out...Im pretty sure it used to not be like that so my gut is telling me that has something to do with the problem/issue.
Does anyone know what this is or how to fix it?  Has anyone experienced this  or do I have to spend yet another 5 hours with Apple support again.
    Thanks

If you have a ton of cookies, it may take a while for all of them to be displayed; and, they may not be brought into display in normal order. It should settle down after all are being displayed and be in normal alphanumeric descending order.
In addition, any key press will bounce the list to show the first one which starts with that character. Plus, if you have a MagicMouse the list will scroll in response to the scroll finger-gesture on the mousetop.
As long as the list of cookies is displayed (the list you get when you click the "details..." button), the icons in thre toolbar of Privacy will be greyed out. You must close the details (cookies list) window (click the "Done" button) before those will become active again.

I was looking at a tanning website today and then I logged off and went to eat lunch.  When I came back, I got on Facebook and on the side were ads for tanning.  What do I do so that this won't happen?  I feel like something is wrong.  I have heard Macs don't get viruses, but I still have Norton Virus Protection.  What is this and how do I make it not do it again!
On another note, my trash can all of the sudden started asking for my password when I move something to it.  It is extremely annoying when I want to delete more than one thing.  Is there a way to make that not happen too?    Thank ya'll!

    1. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/.Trash
    2. Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Show Info
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.
    3. The dialog should show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section. If that's not what it shows, click the padlock icon in the lower right corner of the window and enter your password when prompted. Use the plus- and minus-sign buttons to give yourself Read & Write access and "everyone" No Access. Delete any other entries in the access list.
    4. In the General section, uncheck the box marked Locked if it's checked.
    5. From the action menu (gear icon) at the bottom of the dialog, select Apply to enclosed items and confirm.
    6. Close the Info window and test.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.
Remove the Norton/Symantec product by following the instructions on either of these pages:
Uninstalling your Norton product for Mac
    Removing Symantec programs for Macintosh
If you have a different version of the product, the procedure may be different. Back up all data before making any changes.
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. Consider installing an ad-blocker and/or a selective cookie block such as the "Ghostery" Safari extension.

  • Website data in advanced settings for websites never visited

How is it possible for website data to be recorded in advanced settings without visiting a website?  Would other websites visited have to be related content popups?  If the iphone 6 plus was used as a hot spot, can other users actions be recorded on the hot spot phone?  Phone is automatically locked after short time.  This user has visited sites previously on a previous iphone but not the phone in question

In addition to the server (site) that you navigate to, any inserted material on that site that is actually on another server would also be recorded, including images, embedded videos, ads, and other embedded content. Website data for another device using the phone as a hotspot will not be captured on the phone.

  • How does website data show sites that I never visited

I see websites showing up in my website data, sites I have never visited and I am wondering what is going on.  Any thoughts?

I haver the same issue and can't get an answer other than 'its corrupted' , 'you need to restore' _ I know how to fix it, but why does it happen? - as I know for a fact I get things in top sites I have never ever visited - and I am not talking here about **** or stuff like that, just random sites - its in the algorythym I think

  • History - turn on columns "First Visited" and "Last Visited" replacing/instead of "Visit Date"?

Sometime before Firefox 3.x, in the History window -- it would show you columns of "First Visited" and "Last Visited".
Now you only get "Visit Date" which is equivalent to "Last Visited".
    * Question -- anyone know how to bring back the "First Visited" column to the History window?
    * I looked in about:config and couldn't find anything.
    * I searched for a Addon and didn't find a current one. (There used to be an Addon called Extended History Manager that would show that column but an administrator disabled the download page for it.)
    * Anyone know how to bring back the "First Visited" column?
Having that column by default in the Mozilla suite browser. (pre Firefox) was awesome! And at least in Firefox 1 and 2 you could use Extended History Manager Addon. I miss "First Visited"! :(

Hi Fractalogic, this support forums doesn't work very well as a suggestion box because of the volume of posts and the audience reading it. You can try the following to get more visibility on the proposal:
    * Help > Submit Feedback
    * Filing a request for enhancement on https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/
You might also try recruiting any developer that created a useful history-related add-on to incorporate this feature.

  • I want to empty the Safari cache in OS 10.8.5, but cannot find the cache in the drop down menus. Where is it? Or do I go to preferences-privacy and select remove all cookies and website data?

I received a 'bogus' email saying I had a virus and to click to scan my entire OS. I did not click - I trashed the email.
I wanted to empty my cache but couldn't find it (OS 8.10.8.5) -- In the main menu, under Safari, the only thing I found was to select preferences, then privacy -- where a window showed an option of removing some or all cookies and other website data.
Is that what I should do or is there a cache somewhere on the laptop?
    Thanks

You were scammed. There's nothing wrong with your computer. You don't need to empty the cache.

If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide and AdwareMedic. If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using ClamXAV. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for this recommendation.)
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.
