Is WLS 12.1.2 or 12.1.3 supported on RH Linux 5.9 64bit

Hi,
We are planning to upgrade WLS 11g to WLS 12.1.2 or .3. The linux server we have is 5.9 64bit. Is this a supported configuration?
Thanks
Riz

Hi Riz,
according to
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/fusion-middleware/documentation/fmw-1213certmatrix-2226694.xls
WLS 12.1.3 is certified with RHEL 5 update 6+ in 64-bit architecture.
Cheers,
A.

  • How to enable web-app "parent-last" classloading in WLS 10.3?

    Hello,
We are having some issues when using Groovy to execute ant tasks in a webapp. They are due to the classloading order in WLS.
    The problem is this :
    - Our webapp is using Groovy 1.5.6.
    - Groovy 1.5.6 uses ant 1.7. When groovy calls ant tasks such as <untar>, <unjar>, etc, it is passing the <mapper> element, which is supported in ant 1.7.
    - When this webapp is deployed in WLS 10.3, Groovy tries to call these ant tasks, but WLS has ant 1.6 which does not support the nested <mapper> element groovy is trying to pass.
    - The groovy script blows up with an ant error because of the unsupported element.
    - We are packaging ant 1.7 jars in the WEB-INF/lib dir of our WAR file, but WLS is loading the classes from it's own classpath first, so we do not get the 1.7 impl loaded.
The solution is to enable "parent-last" classloading for this webapp, but I can not find any documentation on how to do this.
In Websphere you can set a checkbox for it in the console.
In Orion, you add to the orion-web.xml file this tag <web-app-class-loader search-local-classes-first="true"/>
** In WebLogic, how do you do this?
I have been searching the documentation and asking around, and I can not find an answer yet. Thanks in advance for your help!

Try either a filtering classloader as described here:
    http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs103/programming/classloading.html#wp1097187
    Or prefer-web-inf-classes in weblogic.xml:

  • XML-RPC in WLS 8.1

    Hello,
Currently I am trying to write an application to accept XML-RPC communication
in BEA WebLogic 8.1 from an XML RPC Client. But I am stuck with the implementation
of Server module, which I am trying to do with Web Logic 8.1 Workshop. Is there
any direct support of XML RPC (JAX_RPC) in WLS 8.1 other than basic HTTP-XML?
I have implemented a stand alone Server and Client XML RPC communication using
APACHE's(old helma) XML-RPC implementation and it is working fine. Now I am trying
to do the same Server side functionalities in WLS.
Suppose WLS 8.1 doesn't have any direct support for XML-RPC, Did you come across
any method to use any other third party implementation (Eg. Apache) along with
    WLS8.1?
It will be very very helpful, if you could guide me to sort out this messy situation.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Upgrading from WLS 8.1 to Oracle WLS 10.3

    Hi,
I'm planning to upgrade a client's system consisting of multiple applications running on WLS 8.1 to Oracle WLS 10.3.
Is this an officially supported upgrade path? What would be the best way to do the upgrade?
Are there any tools for automatically importing or converting the old configuration or domains?
Or is it better to create new installations from scratch and manually configure them?
Is there any documentation for this upgrade path?
In practice we would need to run both application servers in parallel for a while.
Can I expect the different server versions to interoperate with each other?
The applications mostly communicate using EJB (v2.0) calls but JMS and Web Services are used as well.
I've tested the EJB calls and they seem to work but what about JMS?

    Thanks.
Can WLS JMS v8.1 be used as a messaging provider for WLS v10.3 and 8.1 instances
(using it directly or through the Messaging Bridge)?
Is this described in the documentation somewhere?
I also found the following documents that address version compatibility:

  • EJB in WLS - CORBA and EJB on WLE

I have a client who is looking to attach a C++ client to their WLE

they now have WLS and WLE thanks to v. 5.1, they want to start moving
    EJBs to the

What if any are the issues regarding communicating between CORBA objects
    on WLE

    communication coming
from the WLS side to the WLE side, but this client will be connected

In studying the only direct source of information we have... (the docs...
and ass-u-me'ing that the docs are correct) it appears that we can have a
CORBA object in WLE access a EJB in WLS through RMI/IIOP as long as the
parameter passing is kept to primitive data types. Any attempt to use the
'Object-by-Value' feature of CORBA 2.3 will result in a error because WLE
5.1 does not support passing 'Object-by-Value' at this time.
So to answer Maffy's question... yes a WLE CORBA client can access a WLS EJB
    service through RMI over IIOP.

    bi-directional communication.

What my customer is going to have to do for now - until, as Will Lyonspointed out, the
    bi-directional
communication is supported - is to build a Java "client" process onWLE that communicates
    with the
    RMI/EJB/Servlet process on WLS.
Deepak suggested that the best way, since they are a CORBA shop tryingto move to Java,
would be to have the C++ client talking to a CORBA/C++ object on WLEthat calls
a CORBA/Java object on WLE that acts as a client to WLS and accessesthe services of the
    Java object on that server.
Another option would be to have the CORBA/C++ object on WLE use theJNI API to call a Java
    object
on WLE that acts as a client to WLS and accesses the Java servicerunning there. There may
    be better
performance from CORBA/C++ to CORBA/Java, though, so that was Deepak'sfirst choice.

WLS5.1 has a new feature: RMI/IIOP, it's probably the featureyou want.
before WLS5.1, CORBA components couldn't talk to EJB componentsdirectly, but you
could make it happen by building a bridge from CORBA objects toEJB components on
WLS. that's probably what the references you read are talkingabout...

    No talk

  • Monitoring resource utilization in WLS 8.1

    Dear All,
We have an application being developed WLS 8.1. We intend to opt for an external HTTP load balancer to load balance about 8 instances of the WLS instances we plan to deploy in production on 8 different linux servers (Itanium based). I am looking at various ways of monitoring the resource usage on each of the servers where I would host 8 managed WLS instances. I am ok to sample a WLS instance on a regular basis (may be once an hr or less) and then compute the average values per day. This would help in bottleneck analysis as well as capacity planning. I am looking at the following parameters to measure:
    1) Number of http request/sec
    2) Number of threads in use (in each WLS process)
    3) Payload size (including HTTP header contents, size of payload sent with each request to my WLS instance)

    10) Number of DB connection (connection pool/data source defined in WLS)
    11) Number of concurrent requests to a WLS instance

  • HTTP Compression with WLS

              Hi all,
We have an environment with IIS as the webservers and
WLS 5.1 serving the JSPs. IIS supports the HTTP 1.1 compression
spec for the static elements its serves (in IIS 4.0 it's
part of the resource kit, and with 5.0 it's an optional
              install).
Does anyone know if it's possible to compress the output
stream from WLS in the same way? We obviously need to
have the iisproxy.dll on the IIS servers, so is it possible
to have this buffer the WLS response and let the IIS
              compression do its work?
Any ideas or comments on how this could work would be
              great.
              Thanks in advance

  • WLS 12.1.2.0 Supplemental Zip Distribution README_SUPP.txt

I think there may be a few things wrong with this READ_SUPP.txt.
First, I'll just copy and paste the file.
Then, in a subsequent post, I'll raise my first question.
Here is the copy and paste...
    README_SUPP.txt
WLS Supplemental Zip Distribution for Oracle WebLogic Server 12.1.2.0
The WLS supplemental zip distribution is intended for development use.
It is supported on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X systems.
It contains the necessary artifacts to develop and test applications on WebLogic Server.
WLS supplemental zip requires that the primary zip distribution is already set up and is ready to use.
Supplemental zip contains samples, evaluation database (Derby) and L10N console help files.
The following instructions should help in quickly setting up the extra components in WLS via the supplemental zip.
Please refer to the general WLS documentation for detailed instructions.
    QUICKSTART
    1. Ensure that WLS has been installed under MW_HOME (eg: /home/myhome/mywls/wls12120)
using the zip distribution - wls1212_dev.zip
    2. Extract the contents of the supplemental zip (eg: extract into /home/myhome/mywls )
wls12120 directory will be automatically created during extraction.
    3. Setup JAVA_HOME and MW_HOME variables in the current shell.
The script will attempt to extract MW_HOME and JAVA_HOME from the WLS installation.
If this fails, you are required to set them up prior to running the script.
    Linux $ export JAVA_HOME=/home/myhome/myjavahome
    $ export MW_HOME=/home/myhome/mywls/wls12120
    Mac
    $ export JAVA_HOME=/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.7/Home
    $ export MW_HOME=/home/myhome/mywls/wls12120
    Windows > set JAVA_HOME=C:\home\myhome\myjavahome
    > set MW_HOME=C:\home\myhome\mywls\wls12120
This version of WLS requires JDK 1.7.
Ensure that you have the proper JDK version installed.
    4. Run the installation configuration script in the MW_HOME directory, C:\wl\wls12120 .
(This step is required to be run only once.
If you move the installation to another location/machine, you need to rerun this step)
If the username and password are not provided, the script will prompt for them.
    Linux/Mac $ ./run_samples.sh <username> <password> or
    $ ./run_samples.sh
    Windows > run_samples.cmd <username> <password> or
    > run_samples.cmd
This step creates the sample domains with the user provided username and password ( admin & admin1admin, respectively ).
The sample domains should be created in MW_HOME/wlserver/samples.
    5. WLS can be started from these sample domains by issuing startWebLogic command.
This will also bring up the WLS console in the default browser.
    6. Start a browser and open up url - 'http://localhost:7001/console' to administer the server.
    WHAT IS INCLUDED
    # Samples
    # Derby DB (for use with Samples)
    # L10N versions of WLS console help files
    CLEANUP
The supplemental zip contents are interleaved with the base zip contents.
You have to delete the MW_HOME directory which will delete both the WLS installation as well as the supplemental zip contents.
    KNOWN ISSUES
    # [MAC OS X] Supplemental zip configuration (run_samples.sh|cmd) may fail if the JAVA_HOME has soft links or dummy JRE files.
Ensure that files in JAVA_HOME have not been tampered with.

My first question regards step number 2...
    2. Extract the contents of the supplemental zip (eg: extract into /home/myhome/mywls )
wls12120 directory will be automatically created during extraction.
The file name is wls12120_dev_supplemental.zip .
When I put this file in the mywls directory and Extract All ( using Windows Explorer, if that matters ),
    the directory created is actually named " wls12120_dev_supplemental " and it has 1 sub-directory named " wls12120 ".
So, is there something wrong with Step 2's text ?
Is there something wrong with how I interpreted Step 2's text ?
Is the actual directory and sub-directory I see being created the successful response / result ?  Or did this step fail ?

Ok just as I expected. So I guess I am left with the following two options
    1) either I switched to using JAXB in my apps instaed of xmlbeans....
    2) or if I still wanna use the old JAX-RPC web services to deploy on the Weblogic 10gR3 server i will have to create my own ant task jwsc directly......as shown below in your docs
Programming Web Services for WebLogic Server (ant tasks)
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs92/webserv/anttasks.html
Getting Started With WebLogic Web Services Using JAX-RPC
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12840_01/wls/docs103/webserv_rpc/index.html
Will OEPE be supporting the old JAX-RPC anytime in the near future release? or have to create own build ant task to call jwsc ant task directly to compile JAX-RPC web services??

  • Session Replication doesn't work when using a custom Unicast Channel

    Hello!
After configure a WLS Cluster for an WebApp with session replication support enabled I faced some issues with cluster configuration.
My LAB env used for this configurations is:
    One Solaris 10 SPARC box.
    -- One WLS 11g (10.3.6) domain with:
    ---- 4 Managed servers:
    ---- Admin server
    ---- server-1
    ---- server-2
    ---- Proxy Server (HttpClusterServlet)
    --- 1 Cluster composed by:
    ---- server-1
---- server-2In that setup I noticed if I define a custom network channel for servers ( server>protocols>channels ) in the cluster and set Cluster Messaging Mode as Unicast* in the Cluster config ( Cluster>Configuration>Messaging>Messaging Mode ), so the session state replication does not work.
When I enable the cluster replication debug for managed servers the following messages appears:
    <> <> <1358966729933> <BEA-000000> <[roid:-1772481434088297851] Creating primary for application key /webapp>

At the end of the day I really would like to understand why the session replication only works for Cluster's Messaging using Multicast mode. I read a lot the WLS docs (specifically the cluster/network topics) [1][2], but I can't find an official explanation about this.
Can someone help me understand this behavior?
    Many thanks.

  • Deploy Jdeveloper 11.1.2 ADF Application on weblogic 10.3.5 ???

I don't want to install ADR on my weblogic. how to create ear file having all the required adf jar and war files in it?
what is recommended installing ADR on production weblogic server or having ear file containing required war and jar files and why?

Then how would we deploy jdeveloper 11.1.2 application on jBoss? You wouldn't, at least if you want a supported configuration. Right now, WLS and IBM WebSphere are the only ones supported, and yes, you do install the ADR on WebSphere. If you want to try to get it working on JBoss, you can fuss around with JAR files in the classpath, but it's not going to be supported.
    John

  • You are my only hope...

I'm very disappointed of WLS (and JDeveloper). Coming from a SJAS background I find that WLS does not enjoy even half the community support of SJAS, and the worst thing is that even WebLogic isn't making a big deal of documentation.
So in wan to secure a webapp. (Fusion webapp) against a database list of users/groups. I looked into it and found about SQLAuthenticator. I said to my self what a great thing... no more need to write my own LoginModule to do that. So I begun to google it to find anything about it... how to use it ( it is not any good if i know: -'hey I can do this! -how? -... silence), but nothing useful.
I kept on going ... I've done a webapp. I wrote a <realm-name> tag in web.xml, I've made a realm on the embedded WLS on jdev (having as provider SQLAuthenticator) ... and run the app. I tried to access a protected resource ... been redirected to login... then entered credentials ... redirected to error page.
Same stuff with DefautAuthenticator(users/roles configured) .... it works...
I've looked into Diagnostics > Log Files > DomainLog nothing
how can I trace the login process?
I need some example how to use this feature, how to configure JDeveloper (this JPS thing is confusing me). I've noticed ( I think this is correct) that in JDev you make users/roles into a jazn-data.xml(this is no good for me because not the developer should establish the users and their passwords, and second this kind of info should be dynamic) that after deploy it is merged into WLS's default realm.
Help me with any link(or anything) that you think it will help me solve this.
    Thanks,
    Florin POP
I apologize for my inappropriate exposure of things, it must be that for three days I'm dazzling in circles about one thing that's a simple task.

Well what I understood after going through your mail is that you want to develop your own Database Login Module for Weblogic container managed security.
Weblogic's security provider architecture is MBean based, if you are going to develop your own provider it should have a corresponding MBean implementation. Weblogic installation comes with tool that will generate necessary MBean deployment files and implementations for you.
You have to go through the following steps -
    1. First of all you need to create the runtime classes for your Custom Authentication Provider
    - In your case first of all you need to implement JAAS javax.security.auth.spi.LoginModule interface (here inside login() method you have to implement your authentication logic)
    - Implement weblogic.security.spi.AuthenticationProviderV2 interface, please be careful while implementing getLoginModuleConfiguration method and here remember to specify the your custom LoginModule while forming javax.security.auth.login.AppConfigurationEntry and returning it. Also please specify the proper JAAS control flag.
    2. Now create an MBean Definition File (MDF) which is basically an xml file containing the MBean definition. (you didn't specify which version of Weblogic Server you are using, assuming Weblogic 10 you may refer this documentation while developing MDF http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs100/dvspisec/mdf_ref.html).
Run this MDF through Weblogic MBean maker to generate the MBean implementation and intermediate Java files.
    3. Once this dynamic class generation is over and you have finished editing the MBean implementation file you need to package them in form of a jar file(MJF) using MBeanMaker.
    4. Copy the MJF into the WL_HOME\server\lib\mbeantypes directory and restart the server.
Now you please login to your Weblogic server admin console click on the default realm, you will get this CustomAuthenticator listed as soon as you are trying to configure a new provider for the realm.
And regarding the tracing of login process you may use weblogic.logging.NonCatalogLogger APIs to send messages to the WebLogic server log.
    thanks,
    Subhasis.

  • Clarifications on OIM Design Console 11.1.1.5 Installation

I have the OIM Server 11.1.1.5 installed and configured on OL (Oracle Linux) 5.7 64bit. The Next step is to install and confiure the OIM Design Console.
I have read the 11.1.1.5 doc. The OIM Console runs on Windows only. But I have noticed that some posts claimed the 11g console can run on the both of Windows and Linux.
    OIM Design Console
Is that true? If yes, please point the doc for the installation and configuration on the Linux.
If not, what are the minimum requirements to run OIM Console 11.1.1.5 on the Windows?
    I looked over the 11.1.1.5 doc http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/install.1111/e12002/oidonly.htm#CDDIDCIC
    I have:
    WLS not a mandatory;
    SOA not a mandatoty;
    IAM 11.1.1.5 a mandatory;
The 11.1.1.5 doc states that OIM manager has to be configured prior to configuring of OIM Console. I read this as the RCU schemas relevant. Do I have to install a new RCU schema DB in the local Windows just for the OIM Console configuration? Or I can use the SAME RCU Schema DB for the OIM Server on the OL.
Thanks a lot for the help.

If you have already installed OIM 11.1.1.5 on linux machine just do below to configure design console
    1. goto IDM_HOME/bin/ run config.sh
    2. In the configuration wizard, select ‘Design Console’ checkbox ONLY.
    3. next screen, enter the OIM server host and port name
4 generate wlfullclient.jar and Copy the ‘$WL_HOME/server/lib/wlfullclient.jar’ to ‘IDM_HOME/designconsole/ext’ (find below instruction given for generation of wlfullclient.jar)
    5. now goto IDM_HOME/designconsole-> run xlclient.sh and you will have design console in unix
If you want your design console in windows do below
1.copy entire folder "designconsole" from linux to Windows machine
    2. Now, in your local windows machine, edit the file ‘$DC_HOME/designconsole/xlclient.cmd’ ($DC_HOME is the folder where you copied the ‘designconsole’ folder) to change the following values:
    * "@loc\java\bin\java" - '@loc' points to your JDK installation
    * "-DXL.HomeDir=@loc" - '@loc' will be $DC_HOME/designconsole
    * "config\@auth_config" - '@auth_config' will be authwl.conf
    creation of wlfullclient.jar
    - Change directories to the server/lib directory.
    cd WL_HOME/server/lib
    - Use the following command to create wlfullclient.jar in the server/lib directory:
    java -jar wljarbuilder.jar
    --nayan

I had posted an issue earlier about not being able to install the Software Only on my Linux 64-bit. That problem has not been solved, but this is a new (possibly related) issue.
I created a brand new installation of Linux, with an Oracle 11gR2 database, and created the BI repositories using rcu for 11.1.1.6
I then navigated to bishiphome/Disk1/install/linux64 and ran runInstaller.
Everything looks fine, all the way up to Step 13 of 15, where the installer is supposed to start copying files. It "hangs up" at that point. The tests for adequate swap space and Temp space are passed:

So far, I have confirmed I am using a 64-bit compliant java:
    $> java -version:
    java version "1.6.0_43"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_43-b01)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.14-b01, mixed mode)
There is nothing installed in this box except the Linux OS, one single Oracle DB for me to install OBIEE, no WebLogic, nothing else.
    Any help will be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Nick

Well, I redownloaded all five zip files for Linux 64 bit, and completely deleted my old bishiphome.
I then unzipped all five zip files into a brand new bishiphome, and retried the installation. This is still a Linux box with nothing on it but Linux, one Oracle 11gR2 database, rcu11.1.1.6, and attempting to install OBIEE 11.1.1.6.
    Same result.
Still hangs at file copy, still has the same error message in the .out file.
Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -2
    at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1937)
Any other ideas? This is getting really frustrating!
