Is WLS 6.0 running?

I installed the version of WLS which came in the J2EE Applications on BEA Weblogic
book, and am now completely confused.
I went through Chapter 3 (on servlets) readily enough. Everything ran.
Now I've been stuck in chapter 4 (JSP pages) for more than a week, and cannot
get a JSP page to work for love nor money! I have been looking at everything I
can think of, and it all looks right. This causes me to doubt whether WLS 6.0
is running at all?!!!! I have attempted to start it from the script, and it bombs
out with a java exception which is longer than the scrolling capability of the
DOS window!!
How can I determine whether WLS is running?

You can attempt to bring up the WLS console, ping the server, or locate using the task
manager to name a few ways. Also, assuming you're running NT or 2000, you can change
the layout properties of your DOS console window to scroll up, allowing review of
errors and confirmation of server execution.

  • [HELP] Can WLS 8.1 run on JRE (instead of JDK)?

    Hello everybody,
I dimly remember reading not long ago that WLS must be run from JDK's java
not JRE's for full functionality, but now I can not find that explicitily
    stated anywhere.
Platform is WLS 8.1 sp2 on solaris 8, .sh installer (full version with
    internal JDK).
On install, the JAVA_HOME in the startup script is set to the WLS's own
    internal JDK:
    JAVA_HOME="/home/bea81/jdk141_03"
and the java startup command in the script refers to the java in that
    internal JDK
    ${JAVA_HOME}/bin/java ... weblogic.Server
Now I am faced with a troublesome WLS install where the java startup command
has been customized to the java in the JRE within the internal JDK:
    ${JAVA_HOME}/jre/bin/java ... weblogic.Server
    My question is:
will WLS work properly when started from JRE that way? Or shallI expect some
    malfunction as a result?
    TIA

    i installed WLS6.1sp1 and JDK1.3.1_01 on RedHat 7.0. when i run startWebLogic.sh
it gives a segmentation fault error. does this version of WLS run on RedHat 7.0

Have you checked the stack info on the readme of the JDK?
    Try setting via:

    hi.
We don't certify this platform, which means either we didn't test it or the
certification tests had problems (possibly like the one you are having). Try using
    RH 7.1 if possible.

  • Run Reports Builder with a remote WLS

    Hi all,
Can somebody know if Oracle Reports Builder 11g can connect with a remote WebLogic 10 server Reports instance?
    How can I do that?
    Best regards!!!

    - not sure what you mean by this .
    - builder will not connect to wls. for jsp reports development, it copies jsps to wls jsp deployment folder in same domain and runs (ie jsp runs in the wls container).
    - yes, rwclient, rwservlet can connect to remote inprocess servers running in wls and can run reports in those reports servers.

    Hi,
Can you try to deploy app through WLST without using Admin console or you can use Deploy utility.
    % java weblogic.Deployer [options] [actions] [file(s)]
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs81/deployment/tools.html
using WLST we can deploy through following way.
Set WebLogic environment variables by running the setDomainEnv script.
Connect to WLST offline mode using below command
    java weblogic.WLST
Connect to the domain using below connect command (to go online)
    connect('weblogic','weblogic','t3://localhost:7001')
    Syntax" deploy ('<application name>','<source location>', targets='<target server or cluster>', stageMode='<stage, no stage or external stage>', versionIdentifier='<application version>'
    deploy('survey_web','D:/survey_web.war', targets='AdminServer', stageMode='nostage', versionIdentifier='10-2')
After deploying the application you can use application name with version number "survey_web (10-2)" in active state in console.
To deploy the same application with some updates, deploy the application as below in WLST.
    Syntax: deploy('<application name>','<source location>', archiveVersion='<current version of application>', appVersion='<new version of application>')
    deploy('survey_web','D:/survey_web.war', archiveVersion='10-2', appVersion='10-3')
This will help you to deploy the App for now but this issue need to check with Support team I request to raise a Ticket with weblogic support.

    Kal

  • OER running inside VirtualBox

    All
I was wondering if anybody has some suggestions here, my problem is as follows
1 - Installed Oracle Enterprise Repository into a OEL 5.6 32 bit Virtual Box VM, using Oracle Xe 10.2 as the Db, all on the same VBox image
2 - Runs fine and can access both the Admin Server (localhost:7001/) and OER (localhost:7101) pages from INSIDE the VBox vm
3 - However, I cannot access the OER page (:7101) from OUTSIDE the VBox Vm
4 - Using bridged network adaptor, I cannot access OER console (eg http://192.168.1.100:7101/oer) from OUTSIDE
5 - NAtted shows the same behavior (if I port forward from 10101 - host to 7101 - guest), ie, WL admin is fine, but OER is not ??
Physical install outside a VM is fine
Are there some other ports I need to know about that are needed ??
my hostname of the VM is localhost.localdomain
    Update: 30th Sept 2011
    I have virtual box 4.10
The 7001 port is always available outside the VM
The 7101 port is available outside the VM (wrote a small sockClient/sockServer ) and my sockClient (remote machine,eg 192.168.1.6 : 7101) can
connect no problems to the VM (runing sockServer on port 7101) when OER is not running.
And my sockClient can connect to the WLS Admin port (192.168.1.39:7001 on the VBox VM) when WLS Admin is running no prob,
but it cannot connect to the OER port (192.168.1.39:7101) when OER is running, this is really weird
tcpdump on the VBoxVM shows that the socket conn request is definately getting to the machine and netstat shows that the 7101 is
    in LISTEN state
    thanks

  • Looking for clarification on ADF 12.1.2 WLS support

What versions of WLS supports ADF 12.1.2? If there is support for 11g, are there any documentation on how to install the ADF 12 Runtime?
    Oracle JDeveloper 12c Support&lt;/title&gt;&lt;meta name=&quot;Title&quot; content=&quot;Oracle JDeveloper 12c Support&q…
    Application Servers
The following table shows application servers supported by JDeveloper and ADF. Application Server support for JDeveloper is provided for connecting and deploying directly to the server as well as debugging. For ADF, it refers to servers that ADF applications can be deployed to.
    Application Server
    JDeveloper
    ADF
    Oracle Fusion Middleware (WLS)
    10.3.5+, 12.1.2
    12.1.2
    GlassFish
    3.1+
    3.1 (ADF Essentials)
    WebSphere
    8.x
    JBoss
    5
    Tomcat
    7
    Oracle Cloud
    13.1

I'm not hearing any oracle responses, thus I can only assume what Timo said is the closest to that fact.
Here is what I know about what a production ready standalone WLS 12c with ADF Runtime 12.1.2 entails:
-a domain running on WLS 12.1.2 needs JRF & Coherence to be installed in order to run ADF 12.1.2 https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2559381
-JRF & Coherence on WLS 12.1.2 needs a RCU database repository JDeveloper 12c & Standalone WLS w/ADF Runtime 12.1.2
-WLS 12.1.2 is only certified to run on Oracle DB 11.1.0.7+ http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/ias/downloads/wls-1211x-certmatrix-1395408.xls
    Does that sound about right?
I hope I'm wrong and someone can guide me to easier setup. It seems that getting a standalone WLS server to run ADF has gotten harder with every new release!
I can get a standalone WLS 10.3.5 up with ADF 11.1.2.4 in ~3mins
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG6wqrFVY00
WLS 10.3.6 with ADF 11.1.2.4 requires 2 additional console applied patches ontop of the 11.1.1.6 runtime installer. (Corrected from false version of 11.1.1.7)
WLS 12.1.2 with ADF 12.1.2 - I have not attempted but it seems to be even more involved than the previous.

  • WLS 5.1 and TX support

              The Weblogic 5.10 documentation states:
"WebLogic Server Version 5.1 is compliant with the JavaSoft EJB 1.1 specification."
Yet elsewhere in the documentation it states:
"The following sections describe EJBs in several transaction scenarios. Note that in all cases EJB transactions should be restricted to a single persistent store, because WebLogic Server does not provide a two-phase commit protocol. EJBs that engage in distributed transactions (transactions that make updates in multiple datastores) cannot guarantee that all branches of the transaction commit or roll back as a logical unit."
Wait a minute. I thought EJB 1.1 specified that an EJB container must provide a transaction coordinator to support distributed two-phase commit across multiple EJB servers.
              From the spec:
"Regardless whether an enterprise bean uses bean-managed or container-managed transaction demarcation,
the burden of implementing transaction management is on the EJB Container and Server Provider.
The EJB Container and Server implement the necessary low-level transaction protocols, such as the
two-phase commit protocol between a transaction manager and a database system, transaction context
              propagation, and distributed two-phase commit."
The spec goes on to show several distributed transaction use cases that must be supported by the EJB container.
This "single repository" limitation of Weblogic severely limits my options.
              What am I missing?

I used Loadrunner's WLS monitor while running some performance scripts on our application. I ended up relying on the WLS Console and some SNMP traps (using HP Openview to review data) in order to acurately guauge utilization of system resources...Regards,Steve

  • WLS 8.1 Type 4 JDBC Driver SQL Server sp_prepare/sp_execute

    Hello,
I have a question regarding performance troubleshooting in a production situation using the WLS 8.1 Type 4 JDBC Driver for SQL Server and SQL Server 2000.
This driver compiles a sql statement on the sql server using sp_prepare(), saving a handle to it. It will execute the statement using sp_execute(). Subsequent uses of the same statement will skip the sp_prepare(), and just call sp_execute(). So, ideally, for a particular statement, you should see one sp_prepare, and a lot of sp_execute's.
My WLS app is running along in production, and I detect a performance problem of some sort on the sql server, such as excessive IO, or blocking.
I turn on the sql server profiler, and I can see a bunch of
    sp_execute 123, 'one', 'two'
    sp_execute 123, 'foo', 'bar'
with bad IO. How do I determine what the original SQL was that was used in the sp_prepare?
The only way I can see to do this is to have the sql server profiler always running to catch every sp_prepare. I can't believe that this is a best practice.
How are you all handling this type of situation?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi Joe,
Thanks for the suggestions. The main issue I have with both is that they
require a server restart to enable. Can't do that on my production system.
The best I've come up with since I posted is to locate the poor
performer/blocker real-time via sysprocesses, then use the sqlhandle column
to call fn_get_sql to get at least some of the sql submitted with sp_prepare().
Not pretty and difficult to do on a busy system.
What's bugging me about the sp_prepare/sp_execute technique used by the driver is:
    1) sp_prepare/sp_execute don't seem to be documented anywhereThey are internal to SQLServer, so it'd be MS to document them or not.
    2) It is at best inconvenient to have to troubleshoot performance issues (requiring
a server config change, server restart, and manual reconcile of two different,
possibly very large, logs based on timestamp).
Your idea to disable the stored procedure cache is interesting, but still requires
a server restart to enable, and another to disable.
To me this is a large step backwards in manageability of my system. What I don't
understand is that I don't see much discussion about this topic on any forums,
so I wonder if I'm just missing something here (maybe everyone's using Oracle). No, the same sorts of issues would be needed with Oracle. DBMSes must make tradeoffs
between normal-case runtime performance, and the instrumentation that would be needed
    to simultaneously monitor performance problems.

  • Multiple WLS 4.5.1 processes using 1 single JNDI tree

Currently we are using 1 WLS process to deploy different beans in
our project. We know that all the deployed beans will be registered
within the JNDI service running in the context of this process.
But now we would like to change this configuration. We would like to
run more than 1 WLS processes deloying all different beans
which are using the same JNDI tree.
    Example:
    Process 1 delopys BEAN_A, BEAN_B ----> uses ------------
    Process 2 delopys BEAN_C, BEAN_D --------------> JNDI Service Process
    Process 3 delopys BEAN_E, BEAN_F ----> uses ------------
    How can we do this?
    Thanks
    Christoph

If your WLS4.5.1 and WLS5.1 use different IP address, they can use the same
port. If they use the same IP address, they can not use the same port
    number.
    Cheers - Wei

I understand that multiple instances of the WLS can be run on the samebox,
they are just listening on different ports. Does this still hold true ifI
am using a product that runs on top of WLS 4.5.1 and would like to have my
own WLS 5.1 instance running on the same box? Can this be done if I keep
the classpaths and weblogic_classpaths and all other related environment
    settings seperate?
    Thanks,

  • WLS 8.1 on OSX?

Does anybody have the instructions on how to get WLS 8.1 running on OSX?
I'd like to walk thru "Mastering Weblogic" on this platform.

    HI, Robert!
    Unfortunately, it's impossible
    look at http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/certifications/certs/supported_configs.html
there is no mac OS X there
