Is X-FI Fatal1ty's Live! Drive unit causing the noise troub

Hi Guys,
Based on some other posts I read here, I am fairly certain MY problem is from the unshielded li've dri've cable. I can put my hand in the case and manually sheild the cable to hear different results. Sometime I can get it to stop the noise by holding my hand just right. I have posted a link to a .WAV recorded from the "What you hear" source in the mixer.

There are no mics hooked up and since I am recording internally from the cards wave output, you can rule out bad speakers/headphones.
Is this what others are hearing? I think at $300ish dollars for a Fatalty board they could have given us a shielded cable. I was recording the static.wav while EQ2 was running and the water sounds are abient sound effects. The noise is there regardless of whether EQ2 is running or not. I also recorded the following shortly after when I was at the desktop not running anything.

P.S. I just disconnected my li've dri've cable and I have NO static at all. I will play for a while and report back. I have a very high end power supply (EG70AX-VE(W)SFMA SLI), and generally speaking all my components are top end.

but after removing the cable then reinstalling for some **bleep** reason it wont pass creative entertainment centers 27 percent during installation... its been like this for the past 20 minutes and after numerous installations... wtf anyone else having this problem to?

I have a new 2.0GHz Intel Core i7 macbook pro and my external firewire drive is causing the computer to lock up. The drive seems to sleep and then never wakes and the laptop locks up. I've had this drive connected to an older 2.0 core duo macbook pro and a 3.0GHz quad core macpro with no issues. It's a ministack v3 drive, 2GBs, fw400+800, sata and usb. Any ideas? And can I stop the drive from going to sleep?

Check with the drive's manufacturer to see if they might have a firmware update for the enclosure; it sounds like the enclosure's firmware isn't properly detecting the FireWire wakeup sequence.
Obviously this could also be a bug with the new MBP's firmware, so it wouldn't hurt to ask the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store; in particular, ask them to show you that the sleep/wakeup sequence on your MBP works with some other FireWire drive.

Organizing clips in external hard drive probably caused the problem

Xxxxx, thank you so much. I was and am very happy about that video but now that I have moved some iMovie '08 footage/clips folders around in my external hard drive, many of my clips in the Event Library (the raw footage, much like the Library in iPhoto) have disappeared and my video of Cheyenne does not play correctly. There are many little yellow triangles with question marks in them and irregularities which lead me to think that my housekeeping of iMovie '08 material in the external hard drive has bollixed up the works.
One thing I want to do is buy a good, good book on iMovie '08 .... one that explains about how to organize and store video clips etc. And then I have to learn that and understand it.
All of the clips that I lost, I still have in the original cassette of footage. Thank God I didn't decide to tape over it! However, I am uncertain about importing the clips again because I am not certain that just bring in new clips is going to make the old deficiencies all better again. Things have to connect right, pathways have to be right etc. And so I don't want to upload the footage until I have a better sense of how I should maintain/organize my movie materials.
That footage was mostly used for making the Cheyenne video, but there are also a lot of clips of ducks that came to our swimming pool and swam around in it for a while. I wanted my second video to be of them and of Cheyenne observing and chasing them.......... but now cannot, since all the clips in the Event Library are gone. The Rise Up videos are still there because they are newer and I didn't touch them in the iMovie '08 housekeeping I did yesterday.
I had a thought that I could go back in time with that special program called Time Machine, but am not certain that it would work with what I did in my EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE, as opposed to my iMac system. I suspect the answer to that is one which would bring me no relief
Anyhow, Xxxxxx, I am so glad that my Cheyenne video was uploaded to Web Gallery before I did the housekeeping chores and missed up my iMovie '08 clips.
I might copy this email and paste it into the iMovie '08 forum. ........
In spite of all this, I feel lucky and happy, Xxxxxx. I see this as just a small obstacle, but one having great significance about the importance of knowing how to handle/organize/store my clips, media stuff, etc. Lucky I learned this so soon. It could have happened when I had a lot of footage.
And this all hangs on my assumption that the cause of the problem is me mishandling/misorganizing the clips/media etc in my external 500 gig hard drive. It seems a logical assumption, though I could be wrong but I see no reason why the video would be working in iMovie '08 at 7 PM but malfuctoning right after I did the housecleaning. ............

Yes it "disappears" from the "entire Library" but you can still view all images under "All Projects." Or you could easily make an Album of all images.

Why does an Interruption to a HTTP Live Stream (HLS) cause the recorded version to play ?

We have set up Adobe Media Server to stream HLS. It all works great but when the stream is interupted and we start it again it draws in the recorded asset instead of continuig the live stream. What are we doing wrong?

This is known to have some initial lag in the http streaming. HTTP streaming unlike RTMP requires a playlist to be generated first. Since we don't store any playlist on to the disk, this is generated just-in-time as you request. Also, HTTP unlike RTMP requires generated a particular size chunk and downloading. But most solutions around HTTP don't bother from this, because they are supposed to be run behind a HTTP caching system. So lag and all is just for the first user. You can't imagine 1000 HTTP subscribers all hitting the origin server.
Though I might give you some hints to reduce the lags. For this you try reducing the HTTP chuck size. This is by default configured at 8 seconds. You may try setting it around 4 seconds. You can edit HLSMediaFileDuration in httpd.conf under hls-vod tag to 4000.

Connecting an USB drive is causing the status light to turn yellow on 2013 Airport Extreme

I recently purchased a new Airport Extreme ac to improve wifi performance in my house. It has been working fine. Today I decided that I would try to connect one of my USB backup drives to the Airport Extreme. As soon as it is connected, the status light goes yellow. It appears to be trying to read the drive, which has only a timemachine backup folder on it. But the status light never comes back to green.

Well, I unplugged the drive from my laptop and plugged it in to the airport extreme again and this time it stayed green and I now see the drive in the airport utility under partitions. Very odd. Going to try restarting the airport to see if it will go green.

I recently bought a WD My Book Live to backup using Time Machine, now that I've upgraded to and my old NAS won't support Mountain Lion. The WD drive appears in the Finder, it doesn't appear as an option when setting up the backup disc in Time Machine.

Do you have a few words missing in the original question ?.
When i upgraded from LION to MOUNTAIN LION it made NO difference at all to my MyBook Live !!!
reading the original post again and again, do you in fact have two My Book Live units, an old one and a new one ?

E3000, USB NAS storage - disk disappears when unit sleeps the drive

Working to get network attached storage working on my new E3000. Have Western Digital My Book drive and the unit has a feature where the disk goes into a sleep mode when not used.
Appears that when the disk does this when attached to the E3000, the router thinks the disk is gone. Trying to connect to the drive from the network does not seem to wake up the storage.
Like to be able to save power and wear by not spinning the disk all the time....

the issue is the drive is going to sleep and the router can not detect it to wake it up. western digital has stated (based from others who have contacted WD support) the drive is not compatible with NAS'ed routers.
i dont know about WD but seagate has software in the drive to disable the sleep state..
and you would rather have the drive SPINNING rather than sleeping/spinning/sleeping as this causes MORE WEAR vs. having it spin constant.
i have a couple buffalo drives 500gb, and had one on an e2 and e3 and now an e42(which ive now added a 2TB seagate go flex drive--no issues btw...) and never had them spin down and give the error.
so perhaps since you can not disable the sleep mode on the WD, and that WD itself has stated thru internet users/google searchers, that this drive is not a good fit.. perhaps you should replace the drive.

They already damaged you Mac by fooling with the BootCamp partition without knowing what they were doing. I wouldn't suggest haveing them help you do anything.

First, see if you can boot into the Recovery HD. Restart and hold down cmd-r until you see the gray screen. It should boot into Recovery. If your Mac shipped with Lion or Mountain Lion, it will boot into Internet Recovery if it cannot boot into the Recovery HD on the hard drive.
They should have tried this at the store.

ALWAYS NOISE from my guitar with SB ExtremeGamer + Front Panel (Fatal1ty I/O Drive)

No clue where to start from – anyway here goes – i got win7 64-bit and latest SB drivers (Beta after trying the older ones).
When i connect my guitar to my front Line 2/Mic 2 there is a LOT of hiss, wizz, and stuff - i tried from the line in (sound card from the back and mic) same result - i am trying to use some guitar effects, studio software.
I will lay all the steps I did to try to get a sound or GOOD sound from both Amplitube 3 and Guitar Rig 4 ; I was able to get the sound a BIT fair from amplitube Fender ONCE (I also tried Hendrix, AMpeg,Metal,X-gear) – that was when I connected to Line2/Mic2 Front Creative panel – other than that I can NEVER EVER GET A SOUND from those software. Any help would really be appreciated.

using CREATIVE Asio (to use my front panel line 2/mic 2 connection) i tried:
1. Windows record left
2. windows record right
there is sound but bypassed from AT or GR (Clean sound)
now when i change only left channel to: Mix FL/FR/RL/RR/FC input is MAXED and nise is crazy even without connecting anything
finally choosing:
LFE
RC or SL
RC or SR
i get the clean BYPAssed sound (input signal is zero)
i set 00 MS and ms for Asio creative latency + tried 44 and 48 hz
Asio4all:
says not connected for all - when i go to its control panel and tick any WDM device list each one shows the yellow Unavailable/Beyond Logic mark

What is the difference between Icloud and Live Drive?

I had purchased for me seperate storage space where by i could download music/pictures to my cyper drive and my Ipad would pick it up. Is this Icloud or Live Drive?

That is livedrive. You cannot use icloud to keep your files online unless the files are generated using iworks. But, icloud is free from apple, 5 gb worth of space. Currently usage is pretty limited, cannot compare wth livedrive, dropbox or sugarsync.

I want to centralize my Itunes Media library to a Mybook Live drive.

I have bought a My Book Live drive as it said I coudl run an iTunes Server. I want to be able to have one central Itunes Media location for all my music and apps etc. So I have moved this to the My Book live. When I open Itunes I see all my music under the LIBRARY and under SHARED/MyBookLive. I don't see my apps or other items? Also if I add a new album to my music library it shows up in both on the PC I add the music from but not on any of the other PC I have in my house. So I want to have a simple solution with all mymusic and apps etc in a single place that looks the same on each of my PC's?

No, I simply went to Itunes, Library, Music. As you mention, I can't click and drag the folder, so I click and drag a section of songs at a time, but then they are all resorted to "by artist" instead of "by title".
All I am trying to do is create space on my internal hard drive by transferring ITunes to an external hard drive (so Time Machine is not an option). Any suggestions, or is what I am trying to do not possible?

Non-System Raid SSD recognized as Hard Drive instead of Solid State Drive unit in Windows 2012 R2

     We have a Raid 10 of 4 SSD in LSI hardware Raid card.
     In Windows 2012 R2 the disk is detected as HDD.
     Is there any way to set in Windows that disk as SSD instead o Hard disk drive?
     Searching I saw that win 8.1 users solve that instaling and runing "WinSAT diskformal" but that don't work in win server because the SSD raid is a non-system one.

I'm having the same problem as you at the moment with a new server install. I've the latest drivers/firmware, but can't seem to get 2012 to recognize the RAID as an SSD. What's even more boggling, I've essentially cloned this server from another (both on
the hardware and software side) and one actually recognizes it correctly!
To provide some key bits of information:
1) The RAID control in question is Marvel based-- using SuperMicro MoBo with Intel Raid (had problems getting their Adaptec controller-- no SSDs would be recognized at all).
2) I installed the 2012 on the raided SSDs in question.
3) I did install the correct driver prior to the OS installation.
3) Post OS installation, TRIM is reportedly up (fsutil etc...)
4) However, when checking disk optimzation, it is clearly labeled as a HardDisk and optimization does NOT trim.
As I said before, this is working correctly on a separate server with the exact same setup. I'm absolutely stumped at the moment since I've essentially tried everything I could come up with. Reinstalling drivers, rolling back, alternate manufacturer drivers
(for the heck of it), etc... all dead ends.
Here's hoping you or some other saint on here will over some much needed insight to get this sorted out.

Soundblaster Live Driver is

I have a Soundblaster Li've Card which I inherited from my brother. As for the version, I think it is just the original. I cannot be sure because I cannot access the card to get info about it. The issue I am having prevents it.
The issue is this: First off I noticed a reverb effect, I have had this before, and in the past just accessed the card thru my start menu (XP is my OS BTW) and changed the settings on the card. I tried to do that this time, and got an error saying "AudioHQU- Cannot initialize audio driver. Reinstall audio driver."
I am not sure how to do that as the only options I can find are to either update the driver or roll it back.
I tried to update the driver patch from the site, I got the file successfully, and ran it directly, but it said it could not find the hardware. Then I tried to roll it back and that did not work either. I also ran a diagnostic using the Creative software on my start menu. The results found a failure on: Mixer Driver, Sound Font Setting, and Mixer Settings Check.
I am not sure what to do to make all of this pan out. I am not an idiot, but not an expert either. I updated the driver a few months ago which seems to have caused this mess, but now I seem to not be able to go forward OR back.
If someone could help me I would appreciate it a lot. Though I believe the product is out of warranty, it is still a perfectly functional card, other than the reverb and driver issue.

Try using Li'veDrvUni-Pack(ENG).exe driver for the sound card.
You can download this driver from http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/ and do a search for the filename.

NOISY HARD DRIVE UNIT

Have just had this i7 for a few days now and in a quiet room, the humming noise from the unit is very noticeable. Is this a common fault? Is there a test that can be performed at home or do I have to send the unit back to apple. I'd rather not do this but any suggestions are most welcome.

Aunty June, you will probably not believe this, BUT, I had placed the mac on a wooden table about 6feet x 3' 6", in size. I replaced this with a smaller table about 3' 6" x 2' 6" with a laminate top and sturdier legs. Hey presto, humming is reduced dramatically. Maybe it is that the machine just needs a very firm foundation upon which to rest. Alternatively, could the stand be causing the problem?
seems to me that the stand may be adequate for the smaller imac but needs to be improved, to cope with the additional weight which it carries on the 27" machine. Any thoughts??
