Is XServer Installed by default?

Hi All,
I just got a new box SUN Fire 280 come with no video card. I installed Sun OS 5.8 thru a serial cable. Everything went fine except that I need XServer to make Oracle Report Server run. Is XServer get installed by default on a machine without video card? If not, how do i verify that? Otherwise, is there any alternative if I really need XServer on that machine and how do I go about doing it?
Thanks a lot for help.

Hi
When you installed Solaris, what package cluster did you choose to install?
Entire distribution with OEM support ( which is everything )
or Core ( just the basic stuff to get a server up ) or something inbetween.
The package cluster you chose will determine whether the Xserver software was installed.
If it's not an issure to have a lot extra software on the machine, probably the quickest thing to do
is rebuild the system will all the software.
Alternately, you could add the packages in yourself manually using the pkgadd command. I'm not
sure which package the Xserver stuff is on, probably a number of packages beginning SUNWxw

  • Will "Tiger Server - Xserve Install DVD" install on non-Xserve Mac ?

    Hi All...
I had four G5 Xserves (now sold) but I still hold and own the Tiger Server DVD and Licences. I am buying an old Mac Mini that had Tiger originally installed, but has been upgraded to Leopard... my question is will my old DVD "Tiger Server - Xserve Install DVD" let me install on a mac OTHER THAN an Xserve... I am suspicious as the Licence starts off with "XSVR-...." which makes me think it may be a special install DVD configured for the Xserve only... ???
    Appreciate a confirmation either way..
    Thnx
    MOKA

Thanks very much for your comments... It does not have any other comments on it other than Version 10.4.3 and Mac OS X Server Xserve Install DVD.
I think you are likely correct and I will give it a try
    Thnx again !!

  • Is powershell installed by default

is powershell installed by default with a fresh intall of all the latest releases of windows server?

    Hi,
Yes PS will be installed by default.
Version 3 is installed by default on Windows 8 and Server 2012 (all versions). You can download V3 for Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7.
Version 2 is installed by default in Windows 7 and Server 2008R2. PowerShell V2 is not installed on Server Core versions of Server 2008 R2, but you can add this feature by using sconfig.exe on Server Core installations.

  • SCCM 2012 sms_dp_smspkg$ installed under Default FTP site

I'm trying to setup a remote Distro Point on a Windows Server 2008 R2 with a FTP site already running.   I installed a Default Web site but when I set the server to be a DP it installed the SMS_DP_SMSPKG$ & SMS_DP_SMSSIG$ under the default
ftp site.  Is this a problem ?  If so how can I move them to the Default Web Site ?
    Thanks

Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening  a support case with CSS as they can work with you to solve this problem.

  • Where are all java updates installed by default.

    Hello guys,
Do you know where all the java updates are installed by default? Thanks for your replies!!

In the place where you find it when you install Java and you don't change the installation path! A wickedly easy test to perform and be 100% sure of yourself.
But it depends on the version of Java, and the operating system you use, and the version of that operating system, and possibly even your native language as the operating system (notably Windows) may have translated folder names. It may also depend on policy settings. Lots of variables.

  • Makepkg with custom dwm ends up installing the default package!

I have a directory where I edit the source of dwm and then run 'makepkg -efi' to build and install my own version.
I have been doing this for quite a while now, and everything worked fine.
Then a few days ago I installed the default dwm with pacman to show my freind what it looks like without the patches that I've applied.
I removed it with pacman afterward, but now when I run the pkgbuild in my customized dwm directory, it ends up installign the default package!
I had to go into the source and do a striaght 'make install' to get my custom binary installed again.
Does anyone know what's going on?

Are you sure that you did not miss the  "-e" there once and have re-extracted the original tarball?

  • Finding templates not installed in default location, then making them work

I recently installed Leopard, upgraded it to 10.5.5, then installed a brand new upgrade to Final Cut Studio 2 (and therefore FCP6). I put all the media, templates, etc on an external drive, as the installer prompts you to do if you wish. Fired up FCP for the first time: no sign of the Master Templates (aka Motion Templates). And no instructions among the 2,033 pages of the FCP user manual of how to tell the app where to look for them.
Next I put an alias of the relevant folder into the default /Library/Application Support/FInal Cut Studio/ folder, and tried again. This time FCP saw the templates, but like so many other correspondents on this discussion board, when viewed in the Viewer, or placed on the Timeline: nothing. Black.
Then I ran Software Update and downloaded, I think, about eight updates to one Final Cut Studio component or another. Opened FCP: bingo! Templates all singing and dancing.
Finally I removed the alias from the Library folder -- and sure enough, FCP is now seeing the templates on the external drive without any help.
So it looks like completely updating OS and FCS does work -- at least in my case. I'd love to know if I'd done the app updating right from the start whether FCP would have found the templates on the external drive, or whether I kind of kick-started it by using the alias trick.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it.
One procedure that resolves the black templates is a complete software update to a clean install of OS and FCS2.
If it is working, that's great. I don't advise using the alias approach because you only have one FW bus on the MacBook Pro, and you don't want it accessing media files and templates, etc. simultaneously.

  • Where does Adobe CS3 install by default?

    Hey there,
I'm trying to install Adobe CS3 Design Premium on my MacBook Pro.
I was wondering once installed in the default installation location "/Applications" does it install each individual application in the Applications folder, or does it create another folder automatically that installs every application in there?
I'm asking, because if it automatically installs everything in the applications folder, i could create a new folder "Adobe CS3 Design Premium" and have everything install in there.
    Thanks,
    Saeid

In any case, if it does, I explained that the installer would allow the creation of that folder. Also, my "yes" was in reference to the OP's suggestion of directories for standard install, and making a new folder. Redundancy is not necessary here. Nothing was made clearer. read my statement below. It applies to almost every post in here. A tenet not followed by many.

  • Installing Leopard (Default Installation)

    Hi -
I just purchased the family pack version of Leopard to install on my PowerBook G4 1.67 2GB RAM and my wife's Intel MacBook Pro. I have read a number of posts and the installation treads. Many recommend completing a Archive and Install. Are there really any major issues just completing a default upgrade? Both systems are utilizing 10.4.11 and have been running great (no issues at all). I would like to retain my applications and setting, etc. without a lot of fuss.
Just want to make sure I am picking the best installation option.
    I appreciate any feedback.
    Thanks,
    Pete

    Thanks for the advise!
I guess I am confused about the Archive and Install option. I thought you could only retain files, network setting and user accounts. I was not aware that it will retain applications as well. So, just to be clear, Archive and Install will keep my current iLife, iWorks applications as they are on my machine right now? I don't have to pull them from the archive folder?
    Sorry for the basic questions...
    Thanks again,
    Pete

    Shawn

I have tried that localy on the box and remotely and can not find any mention of LOM. I am new to Xserves so maybe i am missing something somewhere.

  • Apple Works Install Issue;"Default location required for install not found"

I am a new mac user. Just bought a Mac Air. Trying to install Apple Works 6.2.9. I downloaded, but when I try to install, I get a message "The default location required for this install could not be found. This install will be cancelled." Any ideas? Thanks!

The download isn't the complete application, it's an updater intended to be applied to an installed earlier version. AppleWorks is no longer sold by Apple but may be available on eBay or other retails. It has been 'end-of-lifed' and there is no support for it, however it works well on current Macs.
However given the situation you are probably better off getting something modern, such as iWork.

  • Bundled software installed by default - Major Dislike!

Please stop the practice of defaulting the check-box for bundled software to enabled.  This is a truly annoying practice.  I'm sure that they pay you something for the option, but is it worth pissing off your users over?

The auto checked default is annoying, but be glad if it is at least there.
Last time Flash told me I had to update, it did not give me an option , it just auto downloaded Chrome and Google Toolbar too.  Trust me, it is even worse when there is no check box and it just starts installing Chrome and Toolbar which corrupt some of the tools I use for work on my laptop.

  • HP DV7-3079wm - Does this laptop come with Bluetooth Module installed by default?

    Hello all,
I just purchased this laptop and it is enroute to me now via FedEx. I am wondering if the laptop has the BlueTooth module preinstalled by default or do I need to purchase one and install it after I receive it?
    Thanks in advance,
    ~D~

Hello Raven283.  I understand that after trying to flash your BIOS from within Windows 8 you're no longer able to boot the notebook.  Is this correct?
Here is more information about HP and the upgrade to Windows 8.
It sounds like your thinking is correct.  It seems that the installer/flashing program did not properly execute within Windows 8.   Now that the flash failed the BIOS does not appear to want to load properly.  HP notebooks flash the BIOS via a Windows executable file and do not support flashing via a USB drive.  So, you will need to contact HP Technical Support in order to get the notebok back to working condition.
You can check the status of your warranty by going here.  Contact HP at 1-800-474-6836 if you're in the US/Canada.  If you're in another area you'll need to go to HP's Support Site to get your area's contact information.
    I hope this was helpful!
