Is Yosemite more fast than Mavericks?

Is Yosemite more fast than Mavericks?

Depends on your system specifications and Csound mentioned...
Furthermore first couple of restarts may be slower especially if indexing. First restart will be very slow.

    unable to bootup after Yosemite install. have to keep shutting down from rear button. it does come on after a few times but then hangs at user login again. If you get in it is great. Seems faster than Mavericks but there is some sort of issue, bootup /login.

    Knock on wood, this seems to have been my problem as well.  I stumbled on this thread after dealing with this ridiculously-long boot times for the past several weeks.
    I just reinstalled McAfee Antivirus and my Macbook Air booted up in less than 1 minute.  No more hanging on the boot-up progress bar.  No more hanging after I click on my user's avatar on the log-in screen.  Bootup would often take 5+ minutes and sometimes never complete.
    This has been SUPREMELY frustrating.
    THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING YOUR RESPONSE!!!

  • Why Yosemite used more ram than maverick?

    After installing Yosemite 10.10, the system used 80% of ram after I streamed serials with Safari. Meanwhile, when I was using it from Maverick, the system only used 50% of the memory.As I typed this, the RAM usage significantly increasing. Please fix this issue of RAM usage. Thanks
    I'm using Macbook Pro Retina (13" late 2013)
    Ram 8GB

    How did you transfer the backup? It sounds like you may have transferred more or less than you should have, which is causing you problems now. Mountain Lion's memory requirements should be about the same as Lion's.
    Note that your problems may or may not be RAM-related. Don't be too concerned about low free RAM... free RAM is wasted RAM, and low free RAM should not be a problem in and of itself. If you have low inactive RAM in addition to low free RAM, though, or if your page outs value in Activity Monitor is too high (10% or more of page ins), then it's probably RAM-related.
    Still, you definitely should be able to run the same tasks on newer hardware in Mountain Lion just as well as you did in Lion, on the same amount of RAM. If that's not the case, something's wrong and some troubleshooting will be needed. You could try some of the tips in my Mac Performance Guide, though there may be some more specific steps you can take based on the answer to my initial question.

  • PowerMac faster than intel Mac when running video programs?

    Hello everyone! Having a question now so wonder if any of you have the same experience?
    Recently i have many video works to do. I have a powerbook, which is the lasted 17inch powerbook and an intel imac (early 2008, 2.66GHz). I run the same version of finalcut pro and compressor. But thing become very strange, which is that when i run compressor to make final video files, my powerbook is much faster (about 2 times faster) than intel iMac. When i run XDCAM program to import video clips to finalcut from Sony XDCAM blueray reader, powerbook is also much more faster than intel iMac, and which is about 10time more faster than intel iMac. So it become very strange. I list my configurations below, and any of you can help me to solve the 'problem' or explain the strange fenominal.
    Maybe theres anything wrong with software configurations, any one can also help me with that?
    Thank you very much!

    HDD: Cosair 256GB SSD

    Of course it depends on what you're doing and how well you know how to use available resources... the general rule for Logic is:
    >>>Fastest machine with the most RAM you can afford.<<<
    That said, someone who knows what they're doing can get an amazing amount of effects and virtual instruments on an old PPC G5 computer running Logic 8.
    So, while fast machines will allow more plugins/VI with less overloads... knowing what you're doing will take you further so that the difference between machines would not make a difference in the music.

  • Mac Book Pro with Yosemite run clearly slower than Mavericks

    HI
    I come from other thread about problems whit wifi connection with Yosemite. The great Linc David solved the problem and that has meant thoroughly clean the Mac
    I have a Mac Book Pro 13", early 2011 (!only four years¡) with 8 GB of RAM (the maximum), 2,7 GHz Intel Core i7 processor and whit Yosemite everything it´s significantly slower that with Mavericks: open a word, do a screening...even when typing fast some first characters don´t appear.
    My conclusion it´s clear the max OS that you can install in one Mac Book Pro 13", early 2011,(like me) it´s Maverick. Yosemite clearly slows the mac.
    If someone can convince me otherwise I would be very grateful, because I did not backup before installing the Yosemite. And i don´t know how go back. Here you have the Entrecheck report:
    Thanks in advance

    In fact many Mac forums talk about change the hard disk mechanical to other of solid state as solution for MacBook Pro.

  • Windows 8.1 UI in boot camp faster than Yosemite UI

    I'm slowly beginning to think I'm going to bin my late 2010 17in Macbook Pro. Since moving up to yosemite the UI responsiveness and smoothness had dropped significantly. The only way to speed things up slightly is to reduce transparency and enable high contrast mode. I wouldn't mind but my older 27in iMac runs yosemite beautifully with no snags. The video in my MBP is a Geforce 330M with 512mb and the video in my iMac is an ATI with 256mb. By stark contrast Windows 8.1 on Bootcamp is blazing fast with no lag. Feels like this is down to drivers...

  • Should I upgrade to Macericks now from 10.6.8 on my i-Mac(mid 2007, core 2 duo?). Will Mavericks be more secure than 10.6.8 ? 10.6.8 has been great, it runs great with all my apps but am concerned about future supportibility?

    Should I upgrade to Mavericks now from 10.6.8 (i-Mac, mid 2007, core 2 duo)? Will Mavericks be more secure than 10.6.8 ?  I have the latest version of 10.6.8 and have upgraded my memory to 4GB. This could be one reason for me to make the move now.
    10.6.8 has been great, it runs great with all my apps but am concerned about lack of support now. I know my PC apps will not work but maybe some apps that work now will "walk away" from 10.6.8 and then there's the security question of above.
    I am also concerned about iPhoto 9 transition to i-Photo 11 and compatibility of my Time Machine WD Passport HD (format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled) based on several questions in applicable forums.
    Thanks for your help in this important decision!

    If I were you I would stick with Snow Leopard. It's much better suited to your old hardware. That said:
    Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mavericks
    To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion, or Mountain Lion installed. Purchase and download Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
         OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
           Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
    To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
             See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Lion
    If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
    You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

    I want to add more capacity on hard drive of time capsule. Can i add a normal usb driver? I will see it as an external drive in the time capsule network? It will work as fast than time capsule? Thanks

    Can i add a normal usb driver?
    Yes, but be sure that the drive is formatted correctly for Mac in Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    I will see it as an external drive in the time capsule network?
    The drive will appear as a shared network drive, like the Time Capsule.
    It will work as fast than time capsule?
    No, the drive will operate at about half or 50% of the speed of the Time Capsule.

  • Is there offline mavericks help? There should be an option to get it installed. We need help more often than we are online. The idea of only online help is lazy and uncaring of the dealer to clients.

    Is there offline Mavericks help? There should be an option to get it installed. We need help more often than we are online. If there isn't, then idea of only online help is lazy and uncaring of the dealer to clients.

    I've done just that.
    And another on the finder column bug in list mode.
    And a few more in the pipeline if I find the motivation: I'm afraid my long relationship with Apple is flagging. They are excessively focussed on consumer goods and leaving their core business to wither away.
    Maybe more serious users aren't profitable to them, and they are happy to let it wither.
    So presumably they are happy if we wander off and start focussing on all the open source  unixes out there.
    p.s. not happy with general Apple trends since about 10.6.8, can anyone tell ?

    Namoroka is the nightly tester version of what will become the next Firefox release, and it is up to - Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.9.2.9pre) Gecko/20100813 Namoroka/3.6.9pre ID:20100813042130 - right now.
    If you are having problems with the Plugin Container in 3.6.8, you will probably have the same problems with 3.6.9pre, too.
    The first thing you should do is to update to the latest "86" release that came put this past Thursday.

  • Why is Firefox Developer more stable and faster than regular Firefox?

    So, I've have some great experiences with regular Firefox. It works great, nice themes, good plugins, security etc., but there's one thing that bothers me of Firefox on EVERY computer on EVERY operating system. Whenever I install Firefox, it is already slow, it stutters sometimes and sometimes it freezes. And it's not only my problem, many of my friends and classmates are using Chrome at this moment, because they complain about speed of Firefox. Now, for me that's not problem, I'm not patient person, but surely it is browser that will protect my privacy as opposed to Chrome.
    Recently, somewhere, I saw download link saying something like "Mozilla Developer, for people like you", or something alike, I installed it and man, that browser is like 10x faster than regular Firefox AND Chrome AND Safari, I mean, this speed is outrageous! It's great, no sarcasm!
    I don't get it, why is regular Firefox so slow and Firefox Developer so frickin' fast? Why? Can you maybe base your next Firefox update to Firefox Developer?
    Sincerely Mozilla Firefox Developer lover. *muah*

    @Tyler Downer Oke, good to hear it's next release of Firefox. But my profile isn't full, I don't really log in, totally fresh install of Firefox are mostly really sluggish. Mozilla really outdid themselves in speed and stability!! Great! A++ Mozilla!

  • My iMac will not support Yosemite. I need Mavericks. How can I get Mavericks?

    My pre-2009 iMac will not support Yosemite. It has Snow Leopard. Apple should let me obtain the latest OS supporting the Apple computer. Any suggestions?

    Mavericks is no longer available. You will need to use Yosemite. You can get Mountain Lion, however:
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
    To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase a redemption code at the Online Apple Store: OS X Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. Use the code to redeem a download of Mountain Lion from the App Store. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
         OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
           Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later.
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model
                 Identifier 5,1 or later.
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later.
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
    To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
             See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Lion
    If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
    You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Or you can stay with Snow Leopard.

    Hi,
    Can anyone please explain me why query in timesten taking more time
    than query in oracle database.
    I am mentioning in detail what are my settings and what have I done
    step by step.........
    1.This is the table I created in Oracle datababase
    (Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0)...
    CREATE TABLE student (
    id NUMBER(9) primary keY ,
    first_name VARCHAR2(10),
    last_name VARCHAR2(10)
    2.THIS IS THE ANONYMOUS BLOCK I USE TO
    POPULATE THE STUDENT TABLE(TOTAL 2599999 ROWS)...
    declare
    firstname varchar2(12);
    lastname varchar2(12);
    catt number(9);
    begin
    for cntr in 1..2599999 loop
    firstname:=(cntr+8)||'f';
    lastname:=(cntr+2)||'l';
    if cntr like '%9999' then
    dbms_output.put_line(cntr);
    end if;
    insert into student values(cntr,firstname, lastname);
    end loop;
    end;
    3. MY DSN IS SET THE FOLLWING WAY..

  • Why is Mac Pro 2.66 only 1.3x faster than 2.7 G5 on CPU intensive stuff?

    I produce DVDs so my Compressor DVCam -> MPEG2 encoding is the most time consuming task. Take the MacWorld benchmarks, I was dissappointed the QC 2.66 was a third faster than a DC 2.7 G5 running Compressor.
    I would have expected almost 2x as fast, basically halving encoding times. The Mac Pro took 107s vs G5 137s only 1.28x as fast OR put another way jobs complete in 78% of the time taken for the G5.
    This is key reason for me to have just sold a G5 DC 2.3...but I'm dissappointed with these early indicators. Would it be reasonable to assume Apple have not optimised Compressor for Intel - surely not at this late stage?

    Terpstar,
    I was wondering if you have had a chance to use Motion yet. I have a MBP, and using Zapfino fonts with SciFi Glow crashes my system every time. I would be interested to see if this is the case on other intel based systems. This has led to a failure of my main logic board twice over the last month. See my thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=614641&tstart=25
    Also, of the two GB ram I have installed, FCP doesn't seem to utilize more than 100MB of RAM. Although the VM size is several GB for the app. I noticed that in order to utilize both cores on my MBP, Airport had to be turned off.
    Also, as Ned Snowing was saying, there is no doubt that there are going to be many software bugs that must be sorted out. Especially since this program is being adapted for intel macs, and not re-written.

  • How to use CLIENT_TEXT_IO more fast?

    Hello,
    I'm using new features for Forms 10g like WebUtil, but I can't fine work with file manipulation - CLIENT_TEXT_IO.
    The loading of the text file with 7mb size, delay 15-30 minutes, is not good.
    I like know one other way for this works more fast, anybody help me?
    I tried using Java for replace WebUtil commands (CLIENT_TEXT_IO), but, my java class, works as a client program. I accept others forms to resolve this problem, but, I look for solutions using WebUtil, if is possible.
    Thanks in advanced.

    It seems the implementation of CLIENT_TEXT_IO is not optimal, refer to the webutil manual for performance improvement.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/webutil/web_util.pdf - page 6-1.
    Use functions in an efficient manner. For instance if you need to read a text file on
    the client computer, it will probably be more efficient to transfer the file to the
    users’s work area using WebUtil_File_Transfer and then read it with normal
    TEXT_IO, rather than reading it line by line across the network
