Is your iPhone serial number linked to your appleID?

My iPhone 4s was stolen on wednesday, and with the insurance looking like they're not going to pay out, due to a 7 day lapse of cover after you update your phone (pathetic i know), I was wondering whether your iPhone serial number is;
a) able to be changed by the thieves.
b) linked to appleID.
I'm wondering if someone tries to create a new ID with my serial number, whether it would report to apple, or alert me perhaps?
Completely lost without my phone had only had it for 3 weeks.

no it's not linked to appleID
but if you report the IMEI to the police they get all phone companies to block the phone from being used
at least they do where I live

  • Is it safe to give someone your iPhone serial number, when you want to sell the phone.... So they can 'verify' it?

Probably safer than giving them the IMEI number.
Just use a buyback service like Glyde or Gazelle.

  • Please enter your original serial number, or insert your logic XSkey

I just re-installed Logic Pro on my new Mac, but upon launching, it asks me for serial #.  Apparently, I'm using the "upgrade" serial, so after I put in the number, it says "Please enter your original serial number, or insert your logic XSkey".  I've searched my big Logic 8 box, but all I have are manuals and disks, with no serial #.  I can't find the old dongle either, since I've been using without it on my previous computer.  How do I get past this?

Thanks for that post Bee Jay,
Just tried doing this, didn't work, after closing logic and re-opening without the XSKey it brings up the same 2 boxes, first to insert my upgrade serial and then the original serial. I really hope there is going to be an upgrade to fix this problem as otherwise it looks like ill be stuck with XSKey after all.

  • Stolen iPhone serial number associated with another AppleID

    Hey Guys
If I give one of you my stolen iPhone's serial number, would you be able to tell if it's associated with another persons AppleID?
I would love to know who is using my iPhone...
    Thanks
    -Bruce

You should assume it's stolen, though there's also the possibility you or someone else in the house used a different Apple ID to register it when you first got it, and don't remember.
Find my iPhone will still work regardless of who it's registered to. No one can sign out of iCloud (and therefore Find my iPod) on the device without entering your Apple ID and password )the one used to sign into iCloud).

If you registered it with Apple, you could try:

Use your Apple ID and password to log in

    Hi,
I had purchased an iPhone 5 last month and got the OS updated to iOS 7, yesterday.
The data cable was of very bad quality and when I took it to the retailer for replacement, they said that its not covered under the one year warranty.
Secondly, I have also been experiencing network coverage issues with this phone. So, I decided to contact apple care through the web. When entering my serial number/IMEI it says, "We're sorry, but this is a serial number for a product that has been replaced. Please check your information and re-enter your serial number. If your information is correct, you may need to contact us."
Does anybody have any idea what the reason behind this could be.

If you purchased the iPhone from Apple or an authorized Apple reseller,
contact them for assistance. If you purchased elsewhere, go back
to that retailer and get them to give you a new iPhone or your money
    back.
If you have checked the serial number carefully and re-entered it
and that gave you the same error message, contact Apple if purchased
from Apple or authorized retailer; otherwise you have been scammed
and need to pursue the matter with the business you obtained the
    iPhone from.

can any one tell me what is that mean..... replace what ?

In most cases, what you said is true...however, this is not always the case.  Take myself for example...
1: I posted my phone online to sell
2: Someone saw my serial number and called AppleCare to get a replacement phone
3: An inferior AppleCare representative bypassed a component validation (check serial number to the device on hand) and approved the replacement under my AppleCare plan.
4:  After noticing this (about 4 days after it happened) and  a trip to Apple and a call to AppleCare, all was resolved.  My phone is back to being covered under AppleCare+
    5:  I learned my lesson.
So, as you can see, there is a chance that it can be something else.  Although, if the person selling the phone notices, it shouldn't take long to resolve it. Chances are that it is what you said.
    Hope this helps

How can you find your IPAD serial number through your itunes account if you have lost your IPAD

If you registered it to your account then it should be on your support profile : https://supportprofile.apple.com/
Or if you have a backup of it on your computer's iTunes then go into Edit > Preferences (iTunes > Preferences on a Mac), and on the Devices tab hover your mouse pointer over the iPad's backup :

  • Do you have to disclose your serial number when selling your laptop

do you have to disclose your serial number when selling your laptop

eBay is a buyer's paradise efemino. You have little choice but to yield to a buyer's will, however unreasonable it may be.
Buyer fraud is rampant. This unfortunate state of affairs has turned away many legitimate sellers of used equipment in recent years. eBay is now dominated by vendors beyond the reach of US law selling $1.99 items with free shipping from Hong Kong.
I am hardly a big seller, but when I sell electronic equipment I include a photograph of the serial numbers or other identifying marks right in the listing. I also put tamper-proof seals on anything that can be opened, and a note in the listing explaining that tampered items will not be accepted for return. I have never had a single return or complaint, but I have no intention of competing with the myriad of bottom feeders offering lower prices. Consider adopting similar practices when selling used Macs. You can include a sceenshot of About This Mac showing its serial number, as well one of the case exterior, to thwart fraudulent attempts to swap logic boards.
Without incontrovertible evidence of buyer fraud, a complaint to eBay will go nowhere. Take back the MBA, switched or not, and absorb the loss. Refusing to cooperate will just get your PayPal account frozen so that you can no longer conduct business.
    Isn't eBay wonderful?

  • How to get the iphone serial number  in application?

    hello,  everyone
i  really want to konw how to get the iphone serial number in aplication ?  As it's different from uniqueIdentifier ....
    thank you

Michele is correct - sneep will help you get the serial from the running domain on the M3000 ,
and it is a good idea to install STB on your machines.
If that isn't possible for you, then sneep can be downloaded directly from [http://www.sun.com/sneep]
I believe that on this platform, sneep gets the serial from the output of prtconf.
There is a minor correction to be made :
After installed SNEEP use "man sneep" for all technical details. The sneep man page is not linked into the shared man pages, so you need to use
    man -M /opt/SUNWsneep/man sneep
with out going to OK prompt (Banner)It is worth noting that the serial shown in the OBP banner is not the product serial
that you will find on the physical serial tag.
The banner "serial" is the decimal equivalent of the host ID, which you normally get in hexadecimal from the "hostid" command.

If you are trying to connect via wifi to our iPhone then the password should be displayed on your phone when you go into Personal Hotspot, by default it is a random password set by the phone but you can change it there.
