ISDN and Faxing from my iMac g5

I have an ISDN phone here in Germany. It has two cables going to it. One looks like a standard RJ11, the other is similar except that the little hook-thingee is off to the side instead of centered, as with the RJ11. I assume this is the digital line. When I stick the RJ11 plug into my iMac and attempt to fax, I hear no dial tone and the fax status icon on the menu bar shows that the modem keeps trying to dial. Any advice?

As the other guys said there are USB fax modems. Apple made one years ago:
http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MA034Z-External-V-2-Modem/dp/B000C6TLDO/ref=sr_1_1?s =electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1310501042&sr=1-1
but as you can see they are now very expensive. I remember when they were available from Apple they were around $40.
Here's one like Kappy referred to made by USR (U. S. Robotics):

  • Why can't I Fax from my iMac over VOiP?

I recently switched from our land line over to Charter.net's phone service to get unlimited long distance for the purpose of faxing. I also purchased the USB fax modem so I can fax from my iMac, set the preferences, etc. I even call Charter prior to making the switch to see if I'll be able to fax. They say yes!
    BUT, it does not work!
I call Charter Cable and I finally get someone who actually knows the technology and he says that I CAN NOT fax through my computer. It should work ok through a regular fax machine, but not the computer. So, what the heck is the difference, both use a modem!
Anyway to get around this problem? Or am I going to have to purchase a separate fax machine?
    Thanks for your help, Connie

Most VOIP phone lines do not support faxing because they compress voice signal a lot to save bandwidth. If your fax software allows you to choose a faxing speed, you can try setting your fax modem to the slowest speed to see if that helps. If you only need to send fax, you can use GotFreeFax.com to send free fax online.

Thank you Meta, but I could not get the calendar and contact sync with Gmail to work. Apple support already suggested to use Google or a Windows PC. Maybe I should actually reset and try my old Windows PC. Seriously, ... can this be the solution after a Mac OS update for pure Apple users?

  • I need to get back individually erased photos and videos from my iMac with no backups to help. Please help

i need to get back individually erased photos and videos from my iMac with no backups to help. this is an attempt to consolidate all my data, new and old so I can uninstall Maverick and put Mountain Lion back on my iMac.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the files have been overwritten and you don't have a backup, they're gone.
If they have not been overwritten, then there are third-party apps (for example Techtool Pro 7 ) with data recovery functions that might be able to retrieve some or all of your files.
    Backing up is good.

  • What software do I use to send FAXes from my IMAC?

I'd recommend looking in the Mac App Store for fax apps. BTW do you have a modem or do you have an AIO printer with fax capability?

  • Cannot fax from my iMac to my Officejet Pro 8500A Plus A910g

I have researched HP help and followed the directions on how to add the fax to my available printers, but when I try to fax a document, the printer prints 3 pages with one line ofcode on each but does not fax the document. If I use the fax feature on the 8500A, it works as designed. I can scan from the 8500A to the iMac and print from the iMan to the 8500A. I would like to be able to fax documents from the iMac without printing them and then faxing.

    Hi A-BPlumber,
I would like to help you be able to send a fax from your mac without having to print it. Please ensure you are choosing the Fax driver next to the printer selection in the 'print' dialog box.
Please take a look at the following document to ensure you have all of the appropriate settings correct; Sending Faxes Using the Fax Utility - Mac OS X
    I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Arthur. Actually, I just got off the phone with an apple rep telling me you can't downgrade, and that yes, apple actually IS forcing you to use iCloud - if, that is, you actually want to be able to sync your contacts or calendar. Apparently you are special and know something different, so please enlighten the rest of us.

Also there are a host of other Cloud services you can use. You do not have to use iCloud at all. Although there ARE over 320+ million iCloud presently active, so it is extremely popular with users.

  • Can I use Migration Assistant as a tool to move my iphoto library back and forth from my imac to my MacBook Pro?

I purchased a macbook pro so I can work on my iphoto projects when out of the house. Instead of buying an external and having my iphoto library on that, would I be able to use Migration Assistant to update the iphoto library from macbook pro to imac and imac to macbook pro -- depending on which machine i am using at the time?

    Do this:
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.

  • Multifunction Printer/Scanner/FAX machines and FAXing from the desktop.

I've got a Canon MP530 thanks to an Apple Bundle and after a lot of gyrations, it has come down to be that neither I, Canon, nor Apple can make this unit send or recieve FAXs from the desktop!
Apple seems to be "stunned" (better word than "clueless") about this lack of functionality. Canon's response is (literally) "Buy a PC."
I know I can do software that will let me FAX but but that is not an option at this point. I've got four machines who all can plug into the same printer/scanner/unit and there's no reason that this machine shouldn't be able to send a FAX for me.
So, I'm here posting this message wondering if anyone has purchased an "All-in-one" unit (preferably part of an Apple bundle) that supports printing from the computer, scanning to the computer, and FAXing to and from the computer and that they've actually used (themselves) and seen work.

Yes absolutely.  I set it up last Fall and have been using it until last week, at whick time I lost wireless connectivity with router for no reason at all.  I can not remember how to do it now and I am looking for the answer myself.
This link to an online chat on www.hp.com with a tech might help you.
    http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pagetype=s-006&h_lang=en&h_cc=us&h_product=3204781&h_client=S-A...
I unfortunately upgraded my browser to IE8 last week and the chat support online does not support that browser.  If you get an answer, I would appreciate it if you would post the answer on this thread so that I can re-learn it myself.  Thanks.  Good Luck.

  • How to unlink and ipad from an imac

What is the procedure to unlink an IPAD from an IMAC?
    Thanks,
    Joe Norton

    Hello jnorton887,
Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
There are several ways an iPad and iMac can be 'linked,' for example through iMessages or through Continuity features like Handoff, Phone Calling, Instant Hotspot, and SMS.
Depending on which features you want to unlink, you may need to sign out of the particular feature (like iMessages) or sign out of iCloud altogether.
You can find more information and the steps to sign out of these services at these links:
Sign in with a different Apple ID on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage - Apple Support
If these articles don't solve it, feel free to reply with more details about which features are linked and we can provide some additional help.
    Cheers,
    Jeremy

  • How do I transfer files and applications from my iMac to a macbook

I need to transfer my stuff from an iMac to a MacBook Pro, both not new. I don't have the original install discs for the iMac. Id like to be able to keep software etc on the iMac to transfer to a family member but I dont want any of my personal information to remain.
Likewise I want to put my stuff onto the MacBook and transfer their stuff to the iMac, is it doable with a firewire cable and if so are there step by step instructions for an operator with a very small understanding!
The iMac's processor is 2,4 GHz Intel Core 2 duo
    Thanks.

Sounds like a question for Blackberry.
Check your manual or the Blackberry support site, or Google.

  • Exporting Mail and Addresses from an IMAC, running OS 9.1.x

My wife, a teacher, has an old Imac, using OE 5.0 as her mail client. She wishes to buy a shiny new MacBook, but has asked me how to import all her messages and contacts from the OE client. I am stumped.
I have seen in the mail program where you can import mail from Outlook Express, but will it work with such an antiquated program?
She doesn't have to do anything fancy with these emails, but she wants to just have them for reference. I believe there is an export feature for contacts, but not for mail messages.
Any help would be appreciated and used. For her, not being able to get these things is a dealbreaker.
    Thanks in advance,
    John C.

OS 10.2, Tiger, allows you to import email messages from OS 9. The age of Outlook Express is not an issue here. However, I don't know if OS 10.5, Leopard will, as Leopard doesn't recognize OS 9 applications. In addition, my experience with the Intel Macs is that they also don't recognize OS 9 applications. Your wife may be out of luck unless some Intel Mac, Leopard user advises that the mail transfer can be done.
