ISE Blacklist application

My customer is requesting us something I am not very sure is possible.
The request is to avoid employees use the devices provided by the corporation to get internet access through the Wireless Guest Service. Currently the Guest Service is already working and is totally open (no restrictions to any service, page, or whatever). The employees have access to Internet through a separate link with many restrictions, basically they can access only pages and services aproved to be business related (no news, no chatting, no download software, etcetera). The sponsor portal for the guest service will be set to allow any employee (using AD credentials) to create guest accounts for visitors, contractors, suppliers, etc. So the IT management is worried about to avoid the employees to create guest accounts for themselves and avoid all the restrictions they have in the corporate internet access.
The basic idea is to create a blacklist with all the devices provided by the corporation, and set the guest service to deny access if the device used is in the blacklist.
I wonder how can I modify the Authentication process to make the ISE validate the MAC address, before (or after) the guest portal is displayed and the Guest username an password are typed in.
I will apreciate any comment you can give me.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply.
If I understood correctly, your answer assume the employee's devices are authorized by the ISE. Unfortunately this is not the case (at least no yet). Currently the ISE is working for Guest service only. So I would need to avoid access thorugh a blacklist or modify the network in order to put the ISE into the authentication process for all computers (employees and visitors).
If I do that, I guess I will have a license limitation (current license has only 100 endpoints, while the wireless network has over 600 users all the time).
Regards.

  • ISE blacklist

Wondering if I could have a group of black listed devices point to a web page that says "contact Helpdesk" or something like that. Rather than the user not connecting and complain that wireless sucks. Not knowing their devices was blacklisted.
    Any ideas ?

You could create a special AuthZ profile that mimicks the CWA redirect flow. This is off the top of my head, but I believe the two AV pairs used are something like
    cisco-avpair:url-redirect
    cisco-avpair:url-redirect-acl
The first being the URL we redirect clients to. The second being the redirect ACL that defines what traffic we want to pass back. If you check the 'Redirection CWA' box in the AuthZ profile you can see at the bottom the two specific pairs you want to use.
After that, you just uncheck the 'Redirect' box at the top and type in those pairs manually, and point the url redirect at another internal  resource hosting the page that says "contact Helpdesk" or whatever you want.
They technically get 'authenticated', but in all actuality the only resource they're able to reach on the network would be that 'Contact Helpdesk' page hosted elsewhere.

  • ISE Application won't start after upgrading to 1.2

    Hi,
we have a customer which is using a ISE-3315 Hardware appliance running 1.1.4.218 Patch 1. He needed to upgrade to 1.2 Patch 2 to support iOS7. There is no secondary appliance so this is a standalone deployment.
We did the upgrade according to Cisco documents (backup, patching the current to the latest patch, performing the upgrade). This all seems to have successfully gone through. I can access the CLI via SSH but the application services are not going to start. I tried to stop and start the services (application stop ise/ application start ise) but I get the following message:
    ise/admin# application start ise
Waiting up to 20 seconds for lock: APP_START to complete
Database is still locked by lock: APP_START. Aborting. Please try it later
% Error: Another ISE DB process (APP_START) is in progress, cannot perform Application Start at this time
I waited for half a day but it stayed the same. Also commands like application configure or application config-reset do not work. restarting the ISE did not work aswell.
Has anyone encountered this problem and solved it? My next Idea would be a clean re install of ISE 1.2 and then restoring the backup.
    regards,
    Patrick

    Hi Everyone
The we have the same problem - it doesn't seems if Cisco cares to solve this obius prblem with new upgrade images on CCO...
After 4 Hours of update of a stand-alone-VM the processes failed to start even waiting for 12 hours.
The Update seems to have successfully gone through, we can access the CLI via SSH,
but the application services are not going to start.
We also tried to stop and start the services (application stop ise/ application start ise) but I get the following message:
    ise/admin# application start ise

Database is still locked by lock: APP_START. Aborting. Please try it later

I'ts really anoying with the poor software quality from Cisco!

  • Application Blacklist

    hello
I would like to know if a Blacklist application exist for Iphone ?
    Thanks

I understand the need for such an app. You can't assume that someone is not paying their bills as a reason to want to block calls.
There was several months when I was getting calls from collection agencys looking for the person who had my phone number before me. Of course to verify that I wasn't that person, they wanted my SS# which I then refused to give. I eventually changed my number. It took a few times of changing it to stop getting someone else's calls but I finally have a good number. My phone should not ring unless it is someone that I am expecting to call me.
To the OP, the iBlacklist app in the iTunes store is a fake and does nothing. The only real iBlacklist is available through other means.

  • ISE 1.2 and MDM integration.

What kind of device information I can collect by MDM integartion with ISE.

    Hello,
ISE  Release 1.2 delivers integration between Identity Services Engine and  MDM platforms, which can ensure that all mobile devices are compliant  with security policy before they are allowed to access the network. This  feature enables posture compliance assessment and network access  control of mobile endpoints attempting to access the network. The  solution also performs ongoing posture checks to ensure that devices  remain compliant and that the correct network access level is  maintained. The specific posture attributes collected by MDM partner  platforms for compliance and access policy enforcement in the Identity  Services Engine are:
    • Is the mobile device registered with MDM?
    • Does the mobile device have disk encryption enabled?
    • Does the device have PIN-Lock enabled?
    • Has the device been jail-broken/rooted?
In  terms of global compliance, posture compliance decisions may be made by  the MDM platform instead of the Identity Services Engine. In this  scenario, additional attributes such as blacklisted applications or  presence of an enterprise data container may be checked. The MDM  platform simply informs the Identity Services Engine if a device is in  compliance, then the Identity Services Engine enforces the appropriate  network access policy.
This  integration brings great value to MDM customers as it automates to the  device registration process. As MDM solutions are network-blind, they  can't detect a new device when it connects to the wireless network, so  the administrator needs to send a notification to the users who wish to  enroll their devices. With ISE integration, device enrollment is done  automatically when users connect their device to the Wi-Fi network.
SNS appliances are now available with ISE 1.2 in SNS-3415-K9 and SNS-3495-K9 appliances.

  • My review: N95 Firmware v20, one day old!

Well - I have flashed the firmware and been using my "new" (for it certainly seems like a new phone) N95 all day now. It has only crashed once (curiously enough clicking on the top right link on the http://mosh.nokia.com page, a small green right-facing arrow). I certainly can't claim that level of stability with my desktop PC... so my one crash is par for the course, and very impressive indeed!
As many people have mentioned, there is a lot more free RAM now. Exactly how much is really immaterial as it is the enhanced capability of the phone which has resulted from this boost that matters. As a pretty exhaustive test I did the following:
Whilst on speaker phone to my business partner he sent me an email to my Hotmail account.
I opened up the messaging app and went to my Windows Live mail box.
I opened the email and downloaded an 85k Word document attachment on it.
The QuickOffice viewer opened the Word file.
Within the Word file was a web link - I needed to look at this and so copied it to the clipboard.
Returning to the menu I opened the browser and navigated to the link from the clipboard. The page was laden with graphics and a tonne of text. I zoomed to 50% and scanned through to read the information I needed.
Leaving the browser open, and just for the hell of it, I went to the menu and launched Widsets which duly connected to my WLAN and loaded up my widgets. I scrolled to the Darla Mack Mobile blog widget and opened it up, selecting the first story within (about the v20 firmware, of course!). This news post had a 70% of screen sized image on the page too.
Throughout all of this I changed screen orientation a number of times using both the slider and the option in the browser's menu. I also had a call blacklist application, as well as the excellent MobiGenie voicemail application running in the background at all times.
Before I closed everything down, I loaded Y-Task's memory module to see how much RAM was free - 6.7M of free RAM!!! Now that's what I'm talking about!!!!
I'd just like to say to anyone anywhere who has ever harboured or proffered the opinion that "it's a phone, it's not meant to do all that" or some variant thereof - what absolute rubbish! This new firmware has made the phone multi-taskable to such an extent that at last, the N95's slogan "it's what computers have become" can at last ring true!!
As for battery usage improvements, the fullness of time will reveal whether it really makes an impact. In the mean time, today, I have tested it as follows:
I have performed a firmware upgrade(!)
I took three backups on PC Suite via content copier
Used USB Mass transfer to copy 370MB of data from my memory card, via the phone
Installed 30 applications to the phone
Restored data to the phone (and subsequently reformatted the phone!) 3 times
Played with the web browser for 50+ mins on WiFi.
Chatted on MSN Messenger for around 30 minutes
Took 8 photos at 5MP each, most with flash
Played around in general with the phone for about 3 hours, on and off
Performed the aforementioned uber-test on the phone
Spoken in total for (according to my log) 2h09m
    Sent 9 text messages
Watched one streaming video from my gallery, lasting 6 mins
My battery has JUST, after all of that, hit the low battery warning. I think that you'll agree that's an impressive performance for the N95. This is all with the phone set to lowest brightness, non 3G mode etc. to conserve maximum power of course, so that extra jolt of power that the N95 8Gb batteries have would still not go amiss... I suspect that I'd have been able to do a lot less if I was using high speed mobile networks for the data tasks I listed above.
The camera is also very much improved, about 3-4 times faster overall. It seems to produce better quality images with finer resolution of individual pixels. I think (?) they have increased focal length on macro shots from 10-40cm to 60cm (I could be wrong there). The update massively reduced shot-to-shot time and the simple addition of the processing image message really improves the process no end, curiously enough! Also, there is funny gray line grid mode (er, what's this acutally for??).
There are numerous tweaks here and there, like new sub-folders in the menus (very handy indeed) and new versions of some apps.
There are some rather glaring omissions however:
Nothing has been done with the accelerometer functions, no auto-rotate or tilt-navigation (a la RotateMe / Nokmote).
Videos and photos are still grouped together in the gallery and the 'albums' feature feels a bit like an afterthought (at the very least I would expect folders or album icon or something to show up in the photo/video stream).
There is still no control over compression of JPEG images from the camera (although this will probably be a minor issue to many).
The slider menu (which Darla Mack quite rightly commented on) from the N81 which allows you to set up how the slider action causes your phone to behave - where is it? This is such an obvious requirement for the N95 and has been the frequent cause of complaints on many forums since the N95's launch
There are a number of applications / software features, for example the multimedia menu, which are already present on other phones which have not been included here. Indeed I believe that some of the core apps from the N95 8GB are more advanced still... given the mess Nokia made of the N95-1 it would seem only courteous to have provided a full set of the latest core apps and menus
There are many other niggles, but I'm going to leave those ones down to personal tastes. That and the fact that I'm a software designer myself, so I'm always likely to think I can see a better way to do it!
To sum up, this firmware update was very much needed and overdue. Nokia's handling of this issue and of it's customers has been appalling. Making people wait for 5 months without word, having superceded a very flawed and expensive phone was not, under any stretch of the imagination, a good way to go about things.
Now that it v20 is here, the N95 flies! It is suddenly reborn and I'm so glad I own it now. It works beautifully and is so stable... it really is a pleasure to use now. I'm glad of my memory card slot and camera lens cover - I wouldn't trade this up for an N95 8gb or anything else I've seen on the market now! (yes that includes you iPhone!! ;P )
My final thought on all of this? Thank Jebus they fixed the infernal keypress bug!!! XD

To be fair, this update addresses nearly all of the concerns that we've had. It specifically addresses the top 2 concerns - memory handling and the poor performance of the camera application, slow load times and processing times.
There are a bunch of other updates as well which are just icing on the cake.
I think through 3rd party programs you can achieve most of what you are trying to do. I'm sure the n95 will recieve yet another update. The attention they have put into updating the phone to support the music store and ngage means that it will recieve additional bug fixes, especially once they begin to get a revenue stream from these new services being launched in december.
I think the n95 if anything has been shown to be a winning device. I believe it will continue to have Nokia's support due to the fact that it is one of the most capable devices in the lineup. I believe the 5 month development time since the last update is due to how comprehensive the overhaul of the firmware has been. Now that version 20 is out, we will see smaller incremental updates. The tough part (overhauling the memory system and operating system, better battery management etc) is over.
I'm really enjoying my device now.

  • Identity Services Engine 1.1.4: REPLICATION DISABLED

    Hey, guys.
Has anyone accountered the problem, that replication between ISE nodes stops after an unpredictable timeframe ???
This is the result after one day:
I have set up a distributed deployment of ISE nodes, seven in total, split up into two nodes for each service (monitoring, administration, policy and profiling).
Each of the nodes is running in an ESX 5.x environment, ESX itself is running on two hosts (two UCS with lots of ram and CPUs), each node has 8 virtual CPUs and 16GB ram, the virtual harddisks are 750GB and on some nodes even 2000GB .....
This is a testing environment, radius accounting data is sent to the ISEs by a small number of switches only (but production switches, so that I can see profiling of our real clients), no authentication or authorization is done by the ISEs (yet).
Profiling is configured in the following way:
    - a single node receives the HTTP probe (via a spanned port of our proxy server) on gig 1 (box does nothing else)
    - two nodes listen to the DHCP, DNS, RADIUS and SNMP probes, these two nodes have the policy service enabled also (but do nothing with it)
All nodes run the same version of ISE:

The database on this deployment contains about 5100 clients at this time:
which is very little compared with the number of the rest of the endpoints that are connected to all the switches that do not send radius-accounting to the ISE deployment yet ....
Anyone has a solution or a clue what to do ???
In this state, ISE seems not capable to handle enterprise environments ....
Btw, backups of the database do not work either, when you have more than 50% diskspace occupied ......

    Hey, guys.
Here is a little update, repication is still disabled, but it seems to be getting even worse:
This happens when trying to connect via SSH AND via the vCenter Console window ......
A reboot of the box enabled ssh again, but the application cannot be started again ...
Disk full .... but full with what ???
Replication is disabled, so no new database entries etc. can make the db grow, I guess .. ??
The virtual disk that has been assigned to this vm is the largest size, that vmware can handle:
The only thing I can do now, is to reimage the machine (again).
Sadly, I do not expect things to be any different with the new installed ise, because I have done this three times before already...
At this point I feel the urgent need to throw this whole project onto the dumpster and take another look at ISE when version 3.0 is released, because in this state it is not enterprise scalable software ....

  • Issue with Pasting to Command Line/PowerShell

    Hi,
We are unable to paste text from an application other than Command Prompt (CP) or Windows PowerShell (PS) to CP or PS.
The issue is only occurring on one of several Windows Server 2008 VMs.
The server has been fully patched and restarted since the issue first started to occur.
Copying and pasting text inside CP/PS and between other CP/PS windows works.
Copying and pasting text from CP/PS to other applications works.
UAC has never been turned on.
We attempted to troubleshoot via different Administrative and non-Administrative users.
We tried a clean boot - antivirus is not causing the issue.
Obviously performing a system recovery is an option.  We can copy and paste text to PS ISE from applications, which is an acceptable solution for PS users.  However, it is still unacceptable for CP users.
    Thanks,

I recognize that clip.exe is in the C:/Windows/System32 folder.  I opened this directory, tried the command, and received the same result.  Entering this as cmd /k < clip.exe provides an interesting response.  I reproduced the output on

My mistake patriciaanne3 helped me discover that its not the firmware that was the problem but some software. I put it down to the blacklist application that i no longer use. Thanks to all.

  • Call baring

    Hi
    I have bought a nokia 5800 3 weeks ago.
I looked for the manner to (barring call) call (as I used it witn samsung) but I don't succeed.
    I tried with
    settings==> calling==> call barring==> incoming calls==>activate==>select==> barring pass word.
the problem that it asked me a barring password and I tried 0000 or 1234 or 1111 but the answer is all the time request non completed.
    Please help me.
    thanks

The call barring feature that you are using here is a network service which your service provider has to activate on your account and provide the password.
Call barring blocks certain types of calls, such as international calls etc., it is not usable to block individual numbers if that is what you are trying to do. Nokia phones haven't had this feature for many years as it was not widely used, but you can search for a 'blacklist' application to install on your 5800 to achieve this goal.

  • Call barring for a 6700

I need to block some numbers (mainly spam) from contacting me. Do I have to call o2 or can I do it myself? I've tried to call them this am but no joy.
    TIA
    Susie

Contacting O2 is an option. Have you a 6700 slide or 6700 classic? If it is the 6700 slide, you could download blacklisting applications from www.ovi.com such as Best Blacklist which will enable you to blacklist calls from preset numbers. Your options are more limited if you have a 6700 classic.
