ISE Config Backup Failure - Data filesystem full above threshold

Hi,
Both the config and operational backups were working until earlier last month. Now the config backup is failing with the following error. No configuration or repository settings were changed.
ISE 1.2.0.899 Patch 8 - Clustered with persona Node 1 = PAN, SMN, PSN .... Node 2 = SAN, PMN, PSN
CLI history says the same:
The local repository (disk:/) is looking good. The "/" filesystem is taking 77% space.
Although it may not be relevant. Data Purging is set to 30 days in the GUI and Operations -> Reports -> Data Purging Audit indicates its running daily with success i.e. threshold_space = 80GB, used_space = 3GB.
Is there a way to clean "/" filesystem ? It is filling up by roughly 1% every 5 days ? Note: the same on Node 2 is only 24% full.
Any ideas on how to get the config backup issue resolved ?
P.S. If images don't appear inline, please see the attachment
Thanks,
Rick.

Hi JK,
Thanks for response. Yes, I am worried that it may not be enough. How about if I increase memory to 32GB, ie. I have two servers, both with 32GB? Will it be sufficient in case of one physical server fail for 8GB data?
What is the point in having the 3rd physical box if two boxes have enough memory/capacity? You know, we need to pay licence according to no of CPU.
thanks,
HenryHi Henry,
actually the recommended minimum number of physical boxes is 4 so that the witness protocol participants can all be on separate machines.
But a minimum of 3 is highly recommended for a number of reasons related to partitioning:
1. If you have only 2, then you are much more vulnerable to split brain scenarios (should for some reason the two servers not be able to communicate with each other, it is harder to decide which half should be the winner). In short how do you decide which box is unable to communicate with the rest of the cluster if there are only 2 boxes?
2. You can't ensure a balanced and also machine safe partition distribution if you have a mismatching number of nodes on only 2 boxes. It would either be balanced or machine safe, but you can't get both at the same time. And you will either have mismatching number of nodes at startup or have mismatching number of nodes after one node failure.
Best regards,
Robert

  • I want to disable Vlan.dat config backup in LMS

    Hi All,
LMS do backup my running config and valn.dat. But due to some policies we want to exclude the vlan.dat in the backup.
Can anybody confirm if it is possible in LMS.
    Regards,
    Sanjay

    Joe,
Sorry if this is an ignorant question.
It was always my understanding that the vlan.dat was a file holding the temporary changes in VLAN configurations a VTP client receives from the VTP server.
So what is the actual purpose of backing up this file?
In case a switch is replaced it will receive updates from the VTP server and can match the VLANs to the VLAN defined on it's ports.
Also I never saw any restoring of a vlan.dat in LMS.
I'm confused here. Thanks for an explanation or pointing to relevant documents.
    Cheers,

  • WARNING: You MUST backup your data before doing anything to your computer

99.99% of the time, problems you see on this board can be solved by a prudent backup plan. Lost data files, hard drive failures, testing for hardware issues, testing for software issues, misplaced data files, incompatible applications, failed software installs, hard drives which are too full, bad directories, bad permissions, corrupt files, all can be solved, if you had one thing: A backup plan which included at least two copies of your most essential files when they were in good condition. With all of the above conditions, testing for the condition's severity requires a backup be present, as numerous conditions have similar symptoms, which if they weren't present when you last made your backup, you'd be able to just recover your backup and everything would be good. No software maintenance program can replace the need to backup your data, as no software maintenance program can test for all the conditions which may need you to recover your data. Only backup software alone can let you recover yourself back to a working condition. Does it have to be an external hard drive? Not necessarily, even a printed copy of your data, a burnt CD, a flashdrive, or a remotely saved backup is better than nothing. So before you install anything, connect any new hardware, or risk yourself to any software maintenance program, backup your data. You'll be glad you did.
And feel free to ask in here what's the most convenient way to backup your data given your needs and abilities. Everyone can backup their data. So the only reason you wouldn't is if you have a prediliction for wanting the pain of losing your data.

    Hi a brody,
    Thanks for this suggestion.
While I understand the sentiment behind this tip and the need to backup, the tone reminds me of Chicken Little. It may read better as a suggestion of best practices (and why) rather than the extreme warning portrayed. The strong language also makes it sound like an opinion rather than objective suggestions.
The Title reads like, "OMG, don't touch your computer without a backup."
99.99% of the time problems on the board can't be fixed with a backup. Some are how to questions, for some a backup would help them recover from the issue but not fix it.
It may also help to break up the long paragraph. (Is there such a thing as a run on paragraph? )
Remember, for User Tips we are looking for concise, easy to understand Tips that in general can be read and understood by a wide audience.

  • When installing new software, remember you MUST backup your data.

This is from my own personal FAQ on my own website, but given the number of people who find themselves in a lurch with Snow Leopard, I had to post this again as a reminder for those not privy enough to find it by internet search engines, or look through this board.
It is not a question of if data will be lost, but when. User error, data corruption, hardware failure, bugs in installers all play a part in potential disasters that only a backup can recover from. While you don't have the viruses or worms on the Mac like you do in the Windows world, it should be no excuse to not backup. These incidents can happen at anytime, and frequently without any warning.
User error is the number one cause of lost data. You drag a file to the trash without meaning to, or use a keyboard shortcut used to send a file to the trash, or take a file out of its prescribed location, and the system gets broke. Before moving preinstalled folders or adding files to preinstalled folders, know what files belong where. Ask if you are unsure. And only start moving files once you know your critical files are backed up. In addition, if you lose track of files, and their location, having a backup you know where it exists will help you find those files which you lost. Manage your backups so that information isn't lost by accident.
There are many disk utilities which claim to help keep your hard disk in good shape, and some are better than others, but if you don't have a backup, any of them could actually be worse than the backup software to your data as a simple power failure during use of one of those utilities can make the data get lost forever. Data corruption is probably the number two cause of losing data.
Hardware failure. Eventually all hard disks, tape drives, CDs, DVDs, Zip drives, Zip disks, floppies, tapes, and even drive controllers fail. Hopefully most will not happen during the time between now and when you can afford your next computer, but it could happen. Getting an external source to backup your data to will lessen the risk of any one component making your data get lost forever. Whether it is an external hard drive, CD burner, tape drive, or a zip drive, the more backups of your data you have, the better off you'll be. Some will even say an off site backup is a good idea since a disaster could happen to your home or office that ruins the media on site.
And then there are installers which without warning will remove different versions of programs, and in a few cases have been known to remove all the data on the system by accident.
Always have at least two copies of your data at all times. As the loss of one data source due to any of the above failures means you will need the second backup to recover your data.
And one copy should also be in a remote location in case something happens to the home location whether it is theft, accidental damage, or natural disaster.
In the meantime if you aren't able to make the investment in backup software or hardware at least make yourself a hard copy of all your documents by printing them out. While not as easy to recover from as digital backups, at least you won't be trying to create the data from scratch.

Data recovery techniques exist, but none are 100% reliable, and some can cost thousand of U.S. dollars if you have failing hardware. So don't think for one moment backing up is optional. The day will come when you wish you had one.

  • Windows SBS 2011 Standard - Windows Image Backup Failure VSS Erros

    Hello,
I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction regarding a SBS backup failure on 2011. It seems i'm currently getting the typical
"Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Failed resolving account spsearch with status 1376. Check connection to domain controller and VssAccessControl registry key.
    Operation:
       Gather writers' status
       Executing Asynchronous Operation
    Context:
       Current State: GatherWriterStatus
    Error-specific details:
Error: NetLocalGroupGetMemebers(spsearch), 0x80070560, The specified local group does not exist."
But i have gone through many different pages regard's to fix's and nothing of the sort has resolved my issue yet. I get an error in the application logs informing me:
The backup operation that started at '‎' has failed because the Volume Shadow Copy Service operation to create a shadow copy of the volumes being backed up failed with following error code '2155348129'. Please review the event details for a solution, and
then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved.
I have made the change in which to change the reg entry's for the spfarm and spsearch are set to "0" and added the vssregistrygroup group with entry of 1.
I have drawn up a list of VSSadmin List Writers and the system writer is showing the following.
    Writer name: 'System Writer'
      Writer ID: {e8132975-6f93-4464-a53e-1050253ae220}
      Writer Instance ID: {b3d9ec72-b1a7-4557-b3b5-dafe1f97b8f2}
      State: [5] Waiting for completion
      Last Error: No Error
I can see the SQL server writer is showing Failed and Non-retryable error? i have rebooted the server twice now after making changes but nothing seems to be working? anyone with any ideas? if you need more information then please let me know! kinda getting
    stuck for ideas.
    Regards
    Mike

    Thanks for the reply Justin
I have gone through our list and i can confirm the following.
did you install any third-party backup utility
on the SBS 2011? Or just use Windows Server Backup?
Its just windows server backup, not 3rd party backup software installed on the server.
Did you mean that set Data of spfarm and spsearch to
    0 via following path?
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\VssAccessControl
    <Domain>\
    spfarm = dword: 0x00000001(1)
    <Domain>\
    spsearch = dword: 0x00000001(1)
Yes this is correct the both have been set to "0" while <domain>\VSSRegistryGroup and NT Authority\NetworkService both have Dword value of "1"
Did you right click on VSSAccessControl, select “Permissions…”, then add backup account and give it Full Control? Meanwhile, please check if
Administrators group is owner of this key.
In response to this, i have Administrators as the owner of the folder, but when you mean "add backup account" which specific account are you referring to?
Did you set the Startup type as Automatic and restart the service? Any find?
Yep this service is set to Automatic but every time i try and start it, it comes up with:
the sharepoint 2010 vss writer service on local computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically
if they are not in use by other services or programs.
    Any feedback would be great.
    Thanks
    Mike

    Hi,
thanks for the suggestion, but all permissions are ok.
The db2 user is in usbshare group:
    drwxrwxr-x 1 root usbshare 0 2008-04-28 10:00 APPS.
We cannot use NFS, the disk is not in a system, it's an external disk connected directly to the network.
Regards and thanks for the replies.

    Finally we fixed this problem.
The problem was the user owner in this filesystem, the owner must be db2<sid>.

I'm not familiar with the server product, but the actual backup process should be the same as on the client version.
On some occasions, a device requests an admin username and password whilst time machine is backing up.
Does it say Admin password, or could it be a password for the backup device?

We see that occasionally.  It seems to be spurious, or at least not a significant problem.
    Feb  1 10:07:37 pc-205 com.apple.backupd[436]: Backup completed successfully.
Feb  1 10:07:39 pc-205 com.apple.backupd[436]: Ejected Time Machine disk image.
Feb  1 10:07:40 pc-205 com.apple.backupd[436]: Ejected Time Machine network volume.
    Yes, that's the "bottom line."
Could this be fixed by running a full backup as admin so that time machine doesn't have to backup these inaccessible files (to normal users) anymore?
No.  However a backup runs, it runs as the root user, so has access to everything.

  • ISE advanced eval license alerts after full base install.

Has anyone had an issue with the advanced eval license triggering the below alerts after a full base license has been installed and the advanced eval license has expired?
How can I keep the license expiration warnings and avoid receiving warnings for an expired eval licence?
This is on Cisco ISE Software Version 1.2.0 full running on a ISE-3315-K9. There is no requirement to go to a full advanced license.
    License Expiration
    Details :
Advanced License expires in 30 days
    Description :
The License installed on the ISE nodes have been expired or about to expire
    Suggested Actions :
Please contact CISCO Account team to purchase new licenses
*** This message is generated by Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) ***

    Gary,
The way to supress this message is to disable the License Expiration Alarm.
To do this, go to Administration > System > Settings.  Choose Alarm Settings from the Left Menu.
Scroll down and select Licensing     |       License Expiration  from the list of Alarms.
Click the Edit Button and use the dropdown to change the Status to Disable.  Click Submit and you're done.
I would then set a Calendar reminder through Outlook (or on your phone) to enable this feature once the expiration date for your Advance License has passed.

  • Data Cache full - what is the soultion

Hello,<BR>I am using essbase. In this 7 are sparse members and 2 are dense members. I am using parallel calculation, with 3 threads. After loading the data when calculation starts it says an error "DATA CACHE FULL INCREASE THE DATA CACHE". I increased the data cache data file cache to twice as existing. Existing size is default one. But still the calcualtion was not happening.<BR>Can any one suggest why it is happening and what has to be done.<BR>Do the needful.<BR><BR>Regards<BR>R.Prasanna

I have no concrete information that there are any risks, only suspicion based on the way most servers operate. <BR><BR>You dedicated 4 GB of memory to one running application. Depending on how much physically exists on the server, this could result in a lot of paging taking place, adversely affecting performance across the entire server. In general, the physical addressable memory caps out at 4 GB (although depending on the O.S., 2 GB is the limit for application space). What all this means, is that you are not (probably) allowing the O.S. any "room" to operate in, and even though you only have one application, the O.S. still needs some space too.<BR><BR>Again, "don't fix what ain't broken" applies here, but you might want to try a somewhat more discrete setting and see if things actually improve somewhat. If you "only" allocated 2 or 3 GB instead of 4, would it continue to work, etc...<BR><BR>If anyone else out there has used a setting above 2 GB, I'd be interested in hearing how it went for you -- perhaps my fears are totally unfounded (though ( still believe there's reason for caution).<BR>

  • "Latest Backup" time/date is incorrect for OS X Server Time Machine backups

I administer a OS X Server that provides Time Machine backups for clients across our small business network. I'm running Server on a Mac Mini (2.3 GHz i7 with 8GB RAM), and after going from Mavericks to Yosemite (and from Server 3 to Server 4) the other day, the TM backups are still running hourly, but the "Latest Backup" times are incorrect.  Has anyone noticed this behavior?  In case it matters, none of the clients currently being backed up are Yosemite clients.  I mentioned this because for our older clients (10.6), the "Latest Backup" times/dates were always listed as "Unknown" in Server 3, and continue to be in Server 4.  Thanks!

I also had to restart the server and client after applying the "fix" I described above. Basically, no user should have multiple, simultaneous file sharing sessions on the server. But even clearing the user sessions does not resolve the problem beyond the next Time Machine backup, so I also tried disabling and enabling file sharing, but the problem also returns after doing this. Only restarting both the client and server after clearing the sessions has worked for me when I have this problem. The problem may return much later, but this work aroudn definitely works as a temporary solution.
Next time I encounter this problem I will try restarting just the server or just the client, because it is unlikely that the problem exists due to something on both systems. Server 3.x is definitely not as stable as it should be, but for my use, it is getting the job done.

it happend today but will again go on error free for next 13 days and on 14th day it will again give the same error.
I think there is some problem in ASPI manger when it calls the device to be initialized.
    kindly help in resolving this...
precise and good answers will be rewarded accordingly.
    thanks

    Hi Saurabh,
You need to remove this tape and replace it with a new one, youre not going to be able to do a backup of the tape because the tape is gone, just remove the tape and replace it with a new tape with a new label (or the same one if its possible)
    Hope this help!

  • How to backup oracle RAC filesystem

    Hello,
May anyone in this community might help to answer on my inquiry on how to backup oracle RAC filesystem. There are many backup features available out there i.e: RMAN, hotbackup etc but the way the backup is working is RMAN will backup and stored the db file in the filesystem. I presume the filesystem also need to be backed up in order to avoid the filesystem corrupted etc
    Regards

    Hi,
    Always welcome ..
when you want to take backup of all the database components of RAC, that's why i advised you to include the all commands in your backup strategy, so that in any case your any components doesn't work , you can restore the particular one .
One thing you can do , you are running your RAC environment on Vsphere , in that case , create a backup plan with the client and your IT team to take backup of whole environment by creating snapshot of Vsphere along with backup plan mentioned by me in above reply  , so in worst scenario your whole environment can be restored .
I have seen that if RAC environment is running on VMware , then its best to take snapshot of whole machine which should be defined in backup policy apart from normal backup of database.
    Thanks

  • UCS Backup Failure

    Hi,
I am experiencing backup failures with Full State or All Configuration. My Backup and Export Policies for Fullstate and All Configuration fail when using FTP, TFTP or SFTP servers.
I can successfully backup using HTTP to a local file system.
UCS manager reports a cause "satellite-connection-init"  code "F16683"
No connections to the FTP,TFTP,SFTP servers are made from UCS.The error seems to indicate an authentication error, however this is not the case.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Ian.

    Hello Ian,
Are those FTP / TFTP / SFTP servers running on Windows system ?
Does manual back up completes successfully ?
If yes, it could be  CSCue69671
    Symptom:
Scheduled  backup operation fails with following error message
"End point timed out. Check for IP, password, space or access related issues"
    Conditions:
If file server ( FTP / SFTP / TFTP / SCP ) is running on Windown operating system.
    Workaround:
Following work around options are available
    1) Perform manual backup with file name that does not have reserved Windows characters.
    2) Backup files to server running on Linux operating system.
    Additional Information
USCM creates backup with file name that  has " : " character  in it. The " : " character is one of the reserved characters that is not permitted to be used as file name on Windows operating system.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa365247%28v=vs.85%29.aspx#file_and_directory_names
UCSM software that has fix for this defect will exclude reserved characters for the backup file name.
