• Fusion 4.1.2. After install can no longer print on the Mac side.

Version:1.0 StartHTML:0000000167 EndHTML:0000003793 StartFragment:0000000475 EndFragment:0000003777
Greetings,
I'm using a MacBook Pro running OSX SL at the most current level.
I upgraded from Fusion 3 to Fusion 4 (uninstalled 3 first then installed 4) after which I did the update to Fusion 4.1.2 which appeared to run fine.
Being I'm new to the Mac I installed Fusion because I need Windows-XP.
Prior to the installation of Fusion I spent 2 weeks trying to get my printers working just on the Mac side without Fusion. I'm using an HP Deskjet 5850 (5800 series) printer which worked just fine. The printer is an IP printer at IP address 192.168.1.11 and can be pinged from both the Mac side and the Windows-XP side. Before Fusion there wasn't any issue printing on the Mac side.
After Fusion installation I didn't have any issues printing on the Windows side.
Now with Fusion installed I can still print on the Windows side but not on the Mac side.
All settings are as normal with printer sharing.
When trying to print on the Mac side I see the printer queue for the HP pop up and it says 'waiting to connect' to 192.168.1.11.
I tried a dozen different settings non of which worked.
I switched from a NAT connection to a Bridged connection for Windows but still the same result, no printing from the Mac side.
Is there a problem with this release of fusion or is it somewhere in my system settings?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

• OAF vs Fusion Technology Stack

Hi all,
We have developed custom business processes (similar to SSHR actions like Termination, Salary Change, etc...) where you enter data through an OAF page or pages, optionally go through approvals and then update Apps or some other application through appropriate APIs.
We are in the process of reworking the actions and adding numerous more and are going through the decision process on whether to develop using OAF or the Fusion Technology Stack.
Has anyone come across white papers or other discussions on which to use going forward? Will OAF be around in 2008 when Fusion comes out, does a current 11.5.10.2 architecture support developing with the Fusion Tech Stack (like does the latest approved AS work with JDev 10.1.3?).
Looking for some type of decision checklist on which should be used.
Thanks, Rob

Rob, OAF will be supported in all pre Fusion releases. Fusion is going to be based on ADF techstack and there might be a lot of architecture change both in technology and product lines. So if you are planning to migrate to Fusion sometime when it gets released you need to analyse if the customizations are even relevant with that product line at that point of time(It is difficult to comment without understanding the extent of change in product lines).
You should be able to use 10.1.3 techstack with OAF in the future releases. You should wait for the actual release milestones to get documentation on that, I can only provide pointers on that now(I work with Oracle development).
It is your decision to customize applications using OAF or ADF at this point. We can recommend the best approach of doing customizations with the current ebusiness suite. If you use OAF you get a lot of advantages of using extension hooks and deploying customizations in a upgrade safe manner. You get the underlying AOL/J security infrastructure for free when developing new pages and integrating them. If you choose to develop your applications using ADF then you need to take care of all these things as well as you will be running applications in two different technologies OAF(ebusiness suite) and ADF(your custom development). You should then try and integrate these two pieces.

• Dctool doesn't support fusion property

Hello,
I'm using Ce 7.1 SP06.
I tried renaming some dcs using the dctool.bat. Unfortunally, the following error pops up.
... Fusions currently not supported ...
The version of the dctool.bat is still 1.00, so it seems to me that it is still untouched since the first release. Fusions has been implemented since nw 2004s SP13, so when can we expect a new version?
I mean, i doesn't know any other way of renaming dcs which is very important.
Any plans or suggestions?
Thanx in advance

Please check the detailed error message in the default.trc trace file on the server on usr/sap/<SID>/<INSTANCE>/j2ee/cluster/server0/log when you get the error in browser. May be it will give a better description.

• Unable to install essabse11.1.2.1.0 on existing weblogic instance on linux

I am trying to install essabse11.1.2.1.0 on existing weblogic instance on linux.
I installed essabse on the same middleware home whare existing weblogic server configured(for OBIEE) Here I am unable to install and configure the weblogic,
any suggitions how to install and configure essabse on the same weblogic instance?
Here are some conflicting statements from oracle,Essabse installation guide 11.1.2.1 below.. I am confused to move forward any suggitions?
1.If you are installing on the same machine on which Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise
Edition or Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher are installed, install into two different
Middleware homes. The products rely on different releases of Fusion Middleware.
2.Typically, EPM System Installer installs WebLogic Server for you. If you have an existing
WebLogic Server installation and want to use it instead of the WebLogic Server installed by
EPM System Installer, note the Middleware home location for the WebLogic Server
installation. During installation, you must install EPM System products to this same
Middleware home. If EPM System Installer detects an existing WebLogic Server installation
in the installation location, it does not install WebLogic Server.

I had problems when I tried to install both products to the same middleware home, for simplicity I ended up just installing to separate locations.
I am sure it can be done but I don't think it is so straight forward, hopefully one day the products will link up in a cleaner way. Saying that I only really tried once and maybe I should spent much more time investigating whether it is possible.
Cheers

• RE: (forte-users) Forte ADE

In addition to this confusion, I'd like to see some statement by Forte to
indicate
WHEN the next Forte R4 is scheduled (before the Sun era is was said to be
Summer 2000) and
WHAT exactly it will contain (major headings will do).
With the cancellation of the Forte Forum event doubt and uncertainty are
spreading in the
Forte communities that I talk with and no one seems to counterbalance these
doubts with an
official statement. How serious does Sun take TOOL Forte for the coming few
years? Release
of Fusion V2 seems to say "serious". The deafning silence with regard to R4
indicates the
opposite. And the users are divided (as always).

A long, long time ago
In a galaxy far away....
I saw a demonstration of Forte's new Application Development
Environment,
which was more userfriendly than the current one. It also looked more
similar to the interface of the other development tools out
there, with a
tree structure and capabilities to browse through the
inheritance tree, and
not opening a new window for every project, class and method that is
accessed.
This new interface was supposed to be included in Forte 4, which would
combine TOOL and Java and would be released soon.
Since then, we've seen SynerJ and now FJEE, but Forte 4 is still not
released. And when it will be released, it still won't
support TOOL and Java
simultaneously. That's OK. I understand that.
But now I've heard that this improved ADE won't even be
included in Forte 4.
Is this true? And if so, why?

Product Future
+ We intend to actively enhance and promote Forté 4GL for the indefinite

• Oracle Forms 11

When Oracle Forms 11 ?

When is Oracle Forms 11 going to be released?
It is going to be released with Fusion Middleware Applications Server 11 which is scheduled for fiscal year 2008. For Oracle that is June-07 through May-2008.

• Order of Installation?

I am setting up a proof of concept 11g Release 1 Fusion Middleware environment, but I'm a bit confused regarding the installation order. I am coming to this environment with a background with OracleAS 10g Release 2.
I have found various quick installation guides, and on their own they work fine. What I'm looking for however is to build an environment which hosts Oracle Identity Management (infrastructure equivalent), J2EE homes, Forms & Reports as well as Discoverer.
The documentation library has quick install guides for either Oracle Identity Management and Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports, and Discoverer but not both in an integrated environment.
My initial approach was to install Oracle Identity Management and then PFRD with the thought of extending the domain created when OIM was installed. This doesn't appear to be a valid option and workarounds suggest creating a separate "classic" domain. Is there a better way to approach this? Is there documentation available which walks through the type of environment I'm trying to build?
Thanks,
-Brad

little confusing about my question .... I really
think the OS matter ... I think first windows
then.... I want o install these operating system in
one machine... OkYou are wanting to install all three OSs on the same machine? Are you going to use a boot manager or VMs? You might have some issues installing Oracle on the x86 version of Solaris 8.

• Abt the survivalence of Oracle applications

hi
i have one doubt regarding the survivlence of apps(current version) in future. Since current ongoing applications those developed and runned are based on Developer 6i. But Oracle had already withdraw its support for Developer 6i. and it is currently busy with its newly released Oracle Fusion for which Developer 9i & above versions are pre requisites.
My doubt is at this juncture is this the right step to go for the training with the current version of Apps (which is very slow in its performance as compared to its competitors)?

Hi,
Think you're on the wrong track here, Oracle eBusiness Suite Release 12 - which is what I would consider the "current" release is running Oracle Developer - Forms and Reports 10g (10.1.2.0.2 ).
With regards to performance you need to compare "like with like" - if you have a performance problem, you should raise an Oracle Support Service Request (SR) or perhaps post details of your problem in the Forum.

Could you let me know documents/url for latest application server?

• For the Techies: Is it WLS11g or WLS10.3 or WLS10.3.1?

Hello,
IMHO Oracle caused a lot of confuison with the naming of WLS.
It first seems WLS11g is purely marketing and technically it is very close to WLS10.3...
but I disagree, since e.g. namespaces have changed and the look and feel of the admin console as well. Remember the L+F which did not even change from WLS9 to WLS10?
So why isn't simply named WLS11 technically as well?
Why on earth is the default installation under C:\Oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3 and not even 10.3.1 ??
Do any of the big companies install this under 10.3? Or 10.3.1?
Do you stick with your installation to existing naming conventions such as /bea/wls103 and /bea/wls11 or do you start to use
/Oracle/Middleware even if you are only interested in Weblogic?
Another related question. I remember the was a bug when changing the product installation folders under BEA_HOME.
Is this gone for sure now? Then I could change that at least.
And yes, I understand this is of no concern if all you do is install it on your laptop.
thanks for your input,
B.

To elaborate on James reply...
WebLogic Server 11gR1 is the branded version of the release. However the underlying technical version as embedded in product registry files and other internal usage is WLS 10.3.1.
Here is why we adopted this approach.
- Fusion Middleware 11gR1 is the umbrella release, and Fusion Middleware 11gR1 products are integrated with/built on WLS. So 11gR1 was adopted as the WLS version from a marketing/branding perspective.
- WLS 11gR1 provides new capabilities for existing WLS users, but to a significant degree those capabilities derive from integration of WLS with other Oracle products and technologies (e.g. improved RAC support, AQ JMS integration, Coherence integration, etc) vs. core WLS changes from WLS 10.3. From the perspective of a WLS 10gR3 (aka 10.3) customer, WLS 11gR1 should be regarded as a maintenance release. We therefore labeled this version technically as a double dot (10.3.X) release, and supported capabilities like upgrade installation which have historically been associated with maintenance releases. Our intent is to simplify, facilitate and encourage adoption of WLS 11g by WLS users, including WLS 10.3 users.
Default Middleware Home directories (i.e. C:\Oracle\Middleware) were chosen based on standard directories for installing with Fusion Middleware products built on WLS. It would not have made sense to default to C:\BEA, and we changed it to something that made sense from a Fusion Middleware perspective. The default Product Home name (i.e. wlserver_10.3) uses the same convention used in prior WLS maintenance releases - only two decimals are used in the name. For example if you installed WLS 10.0 and WLS 10.0.1, both used wlserver_10.0 as the default product home name. So we have not changed anything here.
You should be able to change the defaults. So for example, if there were a reason to change these names to some pre-existing WLS installation directory naming convention, you should continue to be able to use those naming conventions (you may want to consider whether adoption of other Fusion Middleware products would affect those naming conversions). I agree with James that you should have a specific reason for changing the product directory name as we are using the same defaults as in the past. If you have had problems in the past, it may make sense to accept the default and avoid whatever those problems were.

• Hardware certification matrix for Middleware?

Hello,
We're planning the installation of a new Weblogic 11 and HTTP server machine, and have a Dell PowerEdge R320 that we're interested in using. I wanted to find out if there is a certification matrix for hardware, indicating tested / supported hardware configurations and models?

• Which version number will FMW 11g have?

Hi,
Update release 11.1.1.0.2 has just been released.
Fusion Middleware 11g is appointed somewhere summer 2009.
Does anyone know which version number this FMW 11g will have?
We have about 10 bugs filled which are appointed to be fixed in version 11.1.1.1.0 or 11.1.2.0.0
and I want to know when I can expect this fixes.
regards

11.1.1.1.0
although you might be looking at a targeted fix date - not a confirmed fixed date - but hopefully they will be fixed for the next release.

• Extensis auto-activation hangs in InDesign CS6

I have a Windows 7 64-bit machine with the CS6 Web & Design suite. Also have the Extensis Suitecase 4 installed. The auto-activation plugin works fine in Illustrator and Photoshop, but not in InDesign. When I open the panel via Windows\Extensions\Extensis, the panel displays, but it's black and has a swirling progress indicator that never stops swirling. Seems like it's trying to launch but it never does. Tried to find some help online but didn't find anything on this.
Anyone have any ideas?

Mr. Panny,
My apologies regarding your misbehaving InDesign CS6 auto-activation plugin. I am hopeful we can help you resolve the issue and I assure you regardless of our recent release of Fusion 5 we will get Fusion 4 working correctly for you.
Generally, when that spinner appears and doesn't go away, it's because there's a communication failure between the plugin and the font panel. Often, this can be because the plugin hasn't properly loaded (or is an older version), but sometimes the host application - InDesign - doesn't give the plugin the opportunity to set up the connection with the panel.
There are a couple of log items we can review to isolate where the problem is occurring but it's probably best served for our tech support team to handle this.
There is no charge for the contact and they will log the case in the event we need to provide a patch to fix the problem.
