ISight and Firewire Audio Devices

I am having issues with my Firewire audio devices and my iSight camara. If I am using my external Firewire audio device (Firewire 800) I get errors on my audio device and somethimes the iSight camara. If on plug in one of the devices things seem to run ok. I have a recording studio and work with other studios on line. Is there any fix for this....

  • 10.4.11 external firewire audio device noise/distortion

    Hi
Subsequent to upgrading to 10.4.11 I now have persistent noise from my external firewire audio device. It's an Edirol FA-101 and worked perfectly in 10.4.10 and earlier. I tried replacing the firewire cable with no effect.
The FA-101 is a class compliane device so uses Apples built in firewire audio drivers.. has anyone else had firewire audio problems with 10.4.11?
    Thanks
    Mark

No I doubt it... FW can be strange sometimes.
Look in Sytem Profiler, if it says you don't have FW at all, then remove all power from the iMac, let it set a few hours to Drain down, plug back in everthing.

  • MBP 17" Boot Camp Firewire Audio Devices

    Hello Everyone.
If your having installation / dead audio issues with a firewire audio device in Boot Camp running Windows XP such as the Presonus Firepod or Tascam FW 1884 you should try downgrading your firewire drivers from Service Pack 2 to SP1.
    As showed in this article:
    http://www.rme-audio.com/english/techinfo/fw800sp2.htm
Please note I also had to rename my services pack 2 file (C:\Windows\Driver Cache\sp2.cab) to another name so windows wouldnt use it when downgrading.
Both my Firepod & Tascam now opperate as expected.
After a day of searching and crying I found (loosly) the answer in these forums.
Thanks everyone, hope this info is useful to someone else too. ^_^

Mac Book Pro 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

After two complete reloads of OS X, Boot Camp and installing XP Pro again both times the driver CD still fails to run.
Also I cannot update firmware at all. Running firmware updater
from utilities fails with a message that this firmware is for specific machines and does not apply to this computer. (not an exact quote)
Downloading and running the firmware update for MBPro also fails with a message that this computer does not need updating. Made sense to me since the 17" was released after Boot Camp but the "not for this computer" error when trying to run it through Firmware Updater makes me wonder...
I do see that the driver CD extracts some folders\files to the users Temp folder in Windows XP, I copied those out but have not figure out the manual install of drivers yet. In fact I don't see any drivers - just misc config files and the various script files to run the drivers application.
Going to run it again this afternoon after XP Pro reloads yet again and try looking in the Windows\Temp folder for the drivers, check everywhere to see if they actually extract.
After that it should be fairly simple to manually install them and circumvent the auto-install failure of the CD.
    Will post later with results.

  • Mini and osx no longer recognizing firewire audio device

i have an m-audio firewire solo hooked up to my mini, which is just a simple firewire instrument interface. i went to bed last night and everything was working fine. woke up this morning and the sounds is now coming from the internal speak, not my stereo. nothing is wrong with the firewire port because its still lighting up and running, but osx is telling me there is no m-audio device connected to the computer. i tried to reinstall the software but that did nothing. should i try to completely uninstalling the software and then reinstall? i also installed m-audios upgrade about a week ago but had no problems up until now. if none of this works, should i strat wondering about a potential virus and possibly formating the hard drive?
    any help is certainly appreciated

I have a similar device. A fresh install of the device may help.
For my device the manual says to turn off all power saving settings. Do not let the computer go to sleep, not the screen, not the hard disc, not anything.
That is probobly unrelated to the computer not recognising it.
    It's not a virus.
Make another user account in the System Preferences. Log out of your account and into the newly created one. Does it work?
If you still have no luck, run the apple hardware test with the discs that came with the computer. A simple search can tell you how to do it.

  • High pitch squeal related to Firewire audio device after 10.6.2 audio patch

So the recent Mac Pro audio update 1.0 (applied on 10.6.2) has reduced my CPU temperature with audio playback (Presonus Firebox Firewire audio interface) and that is great. Also haven't had any machine crashes (grey screens) recently which is also great.
The problem is that when the Firebox is plugged into the firewire port of the Mac Pro there is a constant high pitched whistle of slightly oscillating frequency. If I unplug the Firebox the whistle goes away in a few seconds.
After prolonged use in a quiet room (the kind of room you need for audio recording / mixing work!) the noise is enough to drive me crazy.
I read a post on another forum with other people having the same problem. Can anyone comment here on seeing the same thing? Is there any known work around or fix for this?
When the CPU is under heavy load (e.g. H.264 compression etc.) the noise subsides only to return when there is normal load (i.e. half a dozen apps running).
    Help!
    Thanks

So I was able to back out the update using "Kext Helper b7" and the original IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext and AppleHDA.kext files from a backup before applying the update. It's pretty easy - just drop the two files onto Kext Helper, hit "go" and then reboot.
My ears are no longer in constant pain and I can actually use the Mac Pro again albeit running quite hotter than before.
This is not a fix Apple. The problem looks unrelated to a specific device based on the posts in this thread. Please issue a usable fix for the Mac Pro Audio performance issue.

  • No sound effects with firewire audio device

I use an external (firewire) sound device for better sound. When I'm in a call, the audio output is routed correctly to that device. But, sound fx, such as when someone sends me an IM or when someone is calling are NOT routed to that device. If I unplug the firewire device, I do hear the sound fx through my macbook speakers. So, if skype is on my side monitor it's very easy for me to miss IMs and calls because I don't hear the sounds. This makes me look very unprofessional to my colleagues. Basically anyone who uses a mac for professional audio/video is going to have an external audio device. Please fix this bug!

  • Internal computer noise with firewire audio devices

    Hello
I have a Power Mac G5 PPC 2.3 and Mac Os X 10.5.6, with tiger I have the same problem too, I bougnt my Mac for audio work, and from the purchase day, I have the same problem, I bought my first audio sound card, M-Audio Firewire 1814, and I installed the last drivers for my operating system, when I start Logic I must go to prefferences audio and select the device, I select coreaudio tab and M-Audio Firewire 1814, and when I click on apply changes, in the Mac start an internal noise, low level, and hign frecuency, and this sound keep while logic is open or another audio aplication with M-Audio 1814 is selected like audio device like Pro Tools M-Powered.
Aplications work fine but this noise I think is a conflict with audio device drivers, I can hear this sound too when I go Aplications/Utilities/Audio Midi Setup/ and in the audio devices tab the internal noise not is sounding but when I click on Midi devices tab, the internal noise start and is sounding while Audio Midi Setup is Open, if I quit Audio Midi Setup the noise stop.
In the Activity monitor I can read MIDI Server process is launched when I click on MIDI Tab, and if I select and close this process the noise stop.
It is only for the noise when is sounding with audio midi setup, close MIDI Server and noise stop, but when the noise is with any application (Logic or Pro Tools) in the activity monitor quit MIDI Server process but the noise keep sounding.
I have Digi 003 Rack and Pro Tools LE too, and I have the same problem when Pro Tools LE start.
If I select M-Audio 1814 in system prefferences/Audio, like audio device and open ITunes the noise is not sounding with ITunes, I can listen music whithout problems, but If I select Digi 003 Rack like Audio Device in
System Prefferences/Audio The noise is sounding with ITunes start becouse Digi Core Audio Driver is launched.
I think is a conflict between Thirty Parts Drivers and The System but I need help, what can I do to resolve this.
    Thanks

Nope, someone elsewhere suggested a thing called "ground loop" occurring. Meaning, the interference from the electric current. They suggested trying it with battery power (power detached), and without. But at least for me, made no difference unfortunately.

  • Firewire/Audio Device issues

I have a Yamaha Motif XS6 hooked up to my macbook pro running Mavericks. There is an audio driver downloadable from Yamaha (YSFW) which was working perfectly right up until I installed an M-Audio driver. The M-Audio device is no longer supported beyond 10.8.2 so I uninstalled it again. Since then the Motif cannot talk to the macbook pro.
    The journey thus far:
I have been able to access the Motif via firewire from a different laptop which means the mLan card in the Motif is working fine.
The Firewire option is viewable under network control panel as working but I have no cable (firewire 800-800) to test it against any other device.
My own personal conclusion (that is only best guess so far) is that the M-Audio driver has knocked out my yamaha YSFW driver.
How do I test this? Are their files/drivers I can be looking for or reinstalling? (I have uninstalled & reinstalled the Yamaha SYFW driver a couple of times with no success.)
Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions? If we can make this work tonight I'll buy you a car!! (actually that's not true and wont stand up in court!)
Thanks for your help in advance.

If your Macbook is a 2009 or later model then it already uses the revision 7 LSI/Agere chipset. And it's likely not the source of the issues.
    Have a look here: http://www.rme-audio.de/forum/viewtopic.php?id=4986
What a hub/repeater does is that it puts another FW chipset in between the faulty rev. 6 LSI and the audio interface, kind of translating the error away (I once used a MOTU Ultralite to make a RME Fireface 400 work on a 2008 Macbook Pro). There is no added latency or performance loss by putting another FW device in between (FW devices communicate all on their own).
Concerning FW/USB and channels. 48 channels of 24-bit audio at 192 KHz is still less than 27 mb/s and as such easily handled by USB 2. I can fire all 36 I/Os of my Fireface UC at 44.1 KHz while transferring data to an USB HD drive that is connected to the same USB hub. That is possible because the audio interface can reserve bandwidth on USB just like it can on FW, the HD just gets what's left.
The RME UFX even comes with 60 channels total and can be run over both FW and USB 2: http://www.rme-audio.de/productsfirefaceufx.php
Most USB interfaces suffer more from bad driver implementations (and early USB chipset issues) than from any limits of the USB protocol itself.

  • No audio (and "no audio device") in WIndows XP on my MacBook Pro 17"

    Greetings,
I just installed Windows XP SP2 on my new MacBook Pro 17" and everything is working smoothly EXCEPT that there's no sound in Windows from the built-in speakers, and in fact the Control Panel reads "No audio device." I have already successfully installed the Boot Camp drivers from my Leopard DVD. I also tried to run the Boot Camp 2.1 update (downloaded directly from the Apple site) but the installer cannot be run and gives error 2762, whatever that is. Finally, I've seen on some forum posts that certain Realtek drivers may fix similar problems on other machine, so I downloaded and installed Realtek R2.27 high definition audio driver but that doesn't seem to have done the trick for me.
I'm guessing this problem could be fixed easily by the correct audio driver but I can't figure out what that is or how to find it. Please help, any advice would be appreciated!

  • *FIXED* No sound and 'No Audio Device' in Control Panel. *FIX

I?m having a problem with my sound. Basically all I get is a system sound, which means no sounds from itunes but the error prompt sounds still play. I?m tempted to say that this is a detection issue because of several things:
-First, when looking in the ?sounds and audio devices? in the control panel I get grayed out selections and a ?no audio device?.
-Secondly, when running the directX diagnostic tool (typing ?dxdiag? in the ?run? window) I get several troubling indications. First under device I have no manufacturer or product ID. Second under drivers I have (copied from dxdiag text file):
    Driver Name: ctaud2k.sys
    Driver Version: 5.2.000.96 (English)
    Driver Attributes: Final Retail
    WHQL Logo'd: Yes
    Date and Size: 8//2006 4:45:38, 499584 bytes
    Other Files:
Seems hunky-doorey but then I have a note at the bottom that reads:
Sound Test Result: Failure at step 3 (DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT = 0x88780078 (No driver)
I have seen another similar post that seemed to have the same problem, but they didn?t provide much information and the fix was to pull out the audio card, run start up, turn it off, and then put it back in and run start up. If this is what needs to be done, could I have a picture or something of what the sound card looks like?
This problem started when I tried to update my sound card and since then my sound has been? possessed? or prone to working at sometimes and then (most of the time)failing at others.
Here is the dxdiag.txt file without the lengthy directShow filters and directx components:

I found that once you reinstall your sound card you need to make sure you hook everything back up correctly.
basically all you need to do is run a start up with your sound card out ofyou computer and then re-run start up with the card back in.

  • Javafx use jmf and capture audio device

Hello, I noticed a problem with the use JavaFX and Java Media Framework (JMF), in a project javafx call Java classes using JMF, but are not recognized PC audio devices, in fact when I executed 's the code CaptureDeviceManager.getDeviceList (null), displays the error: "could not commit protocolPRefixList", without recognizing any audio device. Instead I call if my application using JMF, outside of a JavaFX project, the devices are found and everything works properly, perhaps this problem depends on the security settings of JavaFX, or inability to use JavaFX is that jmf interfaces with audio and video devices?
    thanks for the help

I'd use jmf and javafx but it was not for capture devices.
If you use jmf there are native libraries.
The thing i found was about the java.library.path wich is overriden when you start javafx that jmf can't load approriate libs.
Try to compare the System.getProperties for java and javafx then you should find where is the problem.

  • Windows and firewire audio interfaces

I have a new MBP I'm getting set up with windows, and everything has gone fine but I'm stuck trying to get my Presonus Firebox audio interface to work. I've been poking around and it seems to be a pretty wide spread problem, so I thought I would consolidate some information and hopefully get a few recommendations.
My basic problem is that the Firebox seems to install fine, but is not useable by any application (ASIO reports the error "No sound device is connected to the PC." when selecting the Firebox). I've done the usual tests, and the device works fine in OS X, in Windows on different computers, etc. Only issue is in Windows running under boot camp.
The problem doesn't seem confined to a specific windows version (personally tried XP SP2 and SP3, seen reports of Vista).
The problem doesn't seem confined to a specific audio interface. In addition to my Firebox, I've seen reports for

    Tascam Fw1082
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7274776&#7274776
The problem does not seem to be about the firewire chipset (I've seen reports of problems with some chipsets, but my MBP is several days old with the TI chipset, which as far as I know has no known problems).
The primary app I use that's critical needs ASIO drivers, so I installed ASIO4ALL and that works fine -- it's not a long-term solution, but I can run with it for a little while. Right now I'm primarily interested in understanding what the variables are, i.e., are there any interfaces known to work with my config of hardware, or is there anyone using my config that's running one of these 'problem' interfaces without problems? I've got the 15" MBP at 2.6, with 4 GB of main memory and 512 MB of video.
    thanks much,
    eric

Also please have some sympathy for the Apple programmers.
This has been an extremely frustrating experience, and it's started me off on the mac platform feeling pretty negatively toward apple. I get that boot camp is a collision of independent companies where no one really has full responsibility, and I don't fault apple for bad drivers (including some REALLY bad drivers, like the broadcom wireless, which I think is dubious to even claim that it works). I have two basic issues with apple: I wish they would have acknowledged the existing problems on the front page of the support, and provided links (making sure everyone knows up front you should try turning off wireless would resolve a number of complaints here). Also, for us laptop users, I have issues with being dependent on apple for drivers (i.e. for the nvidia card). Not knowing if a problem is fixed by a recent driver, and not having access to that driver, is very frustrating. There's the same problem with PC vendors, but at least they have market pressure to keep drivers up to date; Apple has a monopoly on machines that run OS X.
How do you like that Tascam unit?
Now that I've had it a little while, I'm very impressed. What I don't like:
    * The largish form factor and ridiculous big knob and buttons that I find worthless.
    What I'm ambivalent on:
    * The sound quality -- at first I thought it wasn't very good, but I suspect I was being subtly influenced by the fact that I think it's hideously ugly. Now, with it at home and integrated, it sounds pretty good, the output at least is approaching the firebox/828mkII range. Don't know about the preamps, that's hard to say without A/Bing but they are at least decent. Overall I have no complaints at all with the sound quality, certainly not enough for me to pull out another device and really try and compare.
    What I like:
    * The drivers are multiclient, letting multiple audio apps run simultaneously -- not sure how common that is, half the interfaces I've owned can do that and half can't.
    * Fully bus-powered. The firebox has a problem where, on the new MBP, you need to have the power supply plugged in when first starting up; it's nice to not deal with that.
    * And then a couple small things that are obvious from the pictures: The knobs are reasonably spaced (the firebox and some motu's are way too close together); dual headphone jacks is nice; independent volume and gain controls on everything is nice (my old 828mkII had a single encoder for both volume and main outs, which drove me nuts).
Overall, for the price you can get them at now (US$135), I think it's a really, really good deal.

  • Noise through firewire audio device 27" iMac

I am using ProTools 9 with the MBox Pro audio interface (8in - 8out).  I am experiencing an intolerable noise floor that I have narrowed down to coming from the firewire port itself off my new iMac i7 27' with 8G RAM with the 2G graphics. I have not even received my Apple Care package yet; that is how new we are talking!!
Note that I tested against my MacBook Pro which is impressively quiet (all references to "quiet & noise" have to do with the firewire output), and exhibits none of these symptoms: The iMac powers up/boots and a few clicks can be heard while it locks in with the MBox. There is an almost immediate faint high-pitched whine that can be heard, very faint unless you were to turn the volume up, but something like the sound you would hear on a video taken from an airplane. Once ProTools opens, or any program that has some meat on the bones, the whine boosts up even louder.  This time it is an unacceptable "not good for business" noise. If you scroll the dock, or move the arrow across the dock, it sounds like white noise you would hear as if thumbing through stations on an AM radio.... and truthfully, because it is coming from my now questionable investment, way worse than an AM radio. This "dirt" coming from my firewire port is so strong, even after turning the Mbox off, this noise is bleeding right on through to my mixer anyway - even the AM radio noise when scrolling!
If you let the computer sit at a modest volume, once the screen saver kicks in, every picture that comes up has it's own noise, sort of like you're hearing voltage spikes from a utility transformer... so I am wondering if this could be a bad graphics card since it seems closely related to what changes on the screen? Anyone who is having these sound issues, please share.  Last note: None of these conditions changed with relocation of my monitor speakers, new cords, screen resolution adjustment, or monitor brightness adjustments.

" So make no mistake, this is an issue that should be taken into consideration by Apple to address and initiate corrections in the electronics/power supply/materials or perhaps the internal design.
My follow-up post was an explanation of how I resolved the issue, but for the price, most who experience this will feel should have been resolved before their iMac was even assembled."
    James230,
I have to say I do not agree with this comment.
Apple can not be made accountable for electrical systems that are not up to today's standards and codes and causing noise on your power line.
You state in your second post that the power in your area as no Earth ground and that the ground prong of your house's electrical system is grounded on conduit.
In the end grounding to conduit is the same as grounding to earth since the water intake for your house IS in the ground so all pipes connected to it are acting as a ground to earth.
The problem is that there is so much stuff connected to the water pipes, like a water heater, kitchen sink, washing machine, etc. that can create interferences, and make it a very noisy ground.
"like the battery back-up, the AC connected to it is simply charging the battery but the actual power running the laptop is through the battery.."
    Not true.
The UPS solution you used is the right thing to do, but not because of the battery.
The battery in a UPS is NOT powering your equipment when you have normal electrical power on. It will only be used when the power goes out.
Same thing goes for your laptop, the battery will only be used when it is not getting power from a wall outlet.
The electricity is powering your power supply which is powering your laptop and charging your battery as needed.
Remove the battery from your laptop and it will still run from power from a wall outlet.
You are getting a cleaner ground because most decent UPS devices available today are equipped with power conditioning and noise filtering circuits that will eliminate most of the noise created by inadequate grounding.
Also note that using a ground lift like you first suggested is not only dangerous for your equipment but could also be seen as "abnormal conditions" that could be used as a reason by any equipment maker to void the warranty on their equipment if a electrical problem was found to be the cause of damages.
They could say: "Sorry, your equipment was not properly grounded, so we are not covering these repairs."

  • NEED ADVICES FOR RME HDSPe AIO and (other audio devices)

Hi all! i was wondering if someone have some experience with RME HDSPe AIO card..
I'm thinking about buying one but is the latency for software monitoring (in logic pro) is good ?
any issues on OS X 10.6.5?
Here's my situation..at the moment i'm using the motu 896 hd , everyone knows that this unit is a kick *** for low latency but for converters it is what you get for the money.
I have 2 good pre amps , the Millennia stt-1 and the Amek channel in a box and most of the time I only need 2 channels for live recording. So i'm looking for an interface ,or an audio card ,that will give me good convertion with ultra low latency, i mean like the motu , no problem at 32 buffers when recording my guitar straight to logic with some plugins on a strip.
    I figured out some alternatives:
    -Metric Halo ULN-2:
a bit expensive, with some good pre amps (that i don't need), and it's a firewire interface so what about latency on this unit? and are the converters really worth the extra 1000$ that i will have to spend compare to the RME AIO?
    Apogee Duet:
at the moment , i have this unit at work (really cool sound) but i will bring it home to do more test, but still for latency , motu 896 hd is better...what about the converters of the Duet compare to the RME AIO ?
    Apogee Ensemble:
I forgot the whole idea of getting one since I read in this forum that the latency was painfull..i was really disapointed cause it will have work perfectly with my euphonix mc control..
And I know that it would have been a waste of inserts, in my situation...but still i would have paid for it .
    RME BABYFACE:
too recent to have a clue if it worth the $ but it seems like a good unit.(and compare to the Duet?)
So the things that are important to me is the latency and great converters..I don't mind if I have to spend extra money and having inserts that i'm only using when i record bands (which is not my primal goal)
At the moment my phocus is on having 2 inserts top quality converters with a good clock, 2 outputs for my monitor and headphone.
I would really like to know what you're all thinking and specially if someone had experience with the RME HDSe AIO!
    thanks ! Pascal

too recent to have a clue if it worth the $ but it seems like a good unit.(and compare to the Duet?)
I would really like to know what you're all thinking and specially if someone had experience with the RME HDSe AIO!
    thanks ! Pascal

  • TS1574 no audio is working on imac and no audio device available to choose from

I am receiving no audio out of my IMac and no option to choosing the internal speakers device.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Originally thought is might have been a virus but down loaded software and no fix to solution.
    Thanks,

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article.
    2. If your model has an audio-out (headphone) port, and a red light is coming from it, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    3. Boot in safe mode. You don't have to log in; just reboot as usual when the login screen appears.
    4. Reset the NVRAM.
    5. Reset the SMC.
    6. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    7. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.
