ISight and iPod freeze computer

On the last two macs I've owned, when I've tried to connect both my iSight and my iPod via firewire, it always ends up completely freezing either my computer, my iPod, or both. Since then I've been sticking to just switching them out depending on which I'm using, but I'm getting tired of that. I'd like to have them both connected all the time. So, does anybody know a way to fix the problem (or maybe an OSX update fixed the problem already?)? Thanks.

A "not uncommon" problem. iSight draws significant power and can be picky about what and how it shares your Mac's Firewire port(s).
See the Possible hardware or software conflicts with iSight. FAQ for my best suggestions.

  • My computer  does not recognize ipod and ipod freezes computer

    This is how it stated:
Today, I charged my ipod on another computer, like I always do, the itunes is to early (like 4.0) to even recognize my ipod, so on the computer it is only hard drive. So, I used the little green arrow icon in the right bottom corner of the screen, as in ejecting a jump drive.
My ipod is at the main menu. I decide to watch a television show until...all of a sudden, it freezes while it is playing. I press, play and pause again. Now the audio plays, but the screen is frozen. So I press the Menu+Center button and the ipod turns off and the Apple icon appears. Usually when i do this, the menu comes back on. But this time, the screen said somethinglike "You must connect your ipod to itunes and restore it..." in about 5 different languages.
I get home, plug it in to my computer, I try to pull up itunes, it does not come up until I disconnect my defected ipod. Everytime I plug my ipod in, the screen just shows the ipod charging in the gray, dark version--no green lighting battery, its all gray and black. And by the icon in the corner, the ipod does not have a low battery...
    Can someone help me?

  • IPod Syncing Gets Interrupted and iPod Freezes

    Help me out...
So when I sync my iPod with my PC, iTunes recognizes the iPod and starts to update. I recently downloaded the new version of iPod software and then I went to update my iPod and it would start for a little bit but then it froze. A pop-up came up saying that the file is missing for updating the iPod or something like that. So I reset my iPod and restarted my computer and made sure everything was running smoothly. Tried it again. Same thing happened. Anyone else experiencing this problem and want to help me fix this? Is there something wrong with the new iPod update or do you guys think that my iPod is broken? What should I do? My iPod is only a year old. If they die that fast, well that's pretty lame.
    Thanks.

  • Playback pauses and ipod freezes then unfreezes after 20 seconds

    Description of the issue:
When playing continuously song after song, the ipod freezes and music stops about 5 seconds in to most songs.  After about 20 seconds, playback resumes and the ipod is responsive again.
    Symptoms:
Only happens after one song ends and the next one begins.
    Doesn't happen every time
iPod freezes and won't accept commands from the click wheel.
Troubleshooting: Reset has not resolved the issue.
Background:  Worked fine before last night, when I added some more files to my itunes library by convering them from wma to AAC.  I received the message during synch that itunes couldn't copy all the files from itunes, since there's not enough room on the ipod.
Once I get home today, I'll try reformatting, etc.

    Try a restore.

  • Iphone 4 and ipod classic computer autorisation bug

    Hi there,
I'm having some problems with both my ipod and iphone.
I use my iphone on my PC and my Mac so 2 machine only it has not been connected anywhere else, however it tells me that I have it authorised on 4 machines and so i have only 1 authorisation left.
My ipod classic is even worst, as it is only ever being connected to my PC and more than once it has asked me to be authorised and i think i have no more authorisations left.
Many times after a major itunes update the PC will ask me to authorise the ipod for this itunes library.
is it possible to reset this authorisations? and why is this happening ayway?
    Thanks
    Miky

I have Windows 8 Pro on my computer purchased from Microsoft for $39.99
I have the latest version of Itunes
I have desktop and the drivers seem to be installed but says "Windows encounted a problem installing the driver software of your device"for both iphone 4 and ipod classic 160gb.
The drivers are there and the actuall Apple products work but diagnostics in itunes don't recognise it. I''ve done Norton One/360 scans and no good. I paid Apple $39 dollars to fix and they said its a microsoft issue along with Symnatec.
I've disable the driver for Ipod and Iphone and reinstalled. It just says error updating the drivers and yesterday ipod worked and then did check for repair drivers and hardware and enabled ipod and iphone. Microsoft had a huge queue for 2 days and Apple don't understand windows 8. Can you help me diesel vdub? or anyone?

  • Ipod freezes computer and itunes and has corrupt songs

    Hi,
a while back I was having problems with my 160gb IPod classic. Every time I plugged it in the entire computer, and iTunes would freeze.
This ended with a trip to the Apple store and after a lengthy session, the iPod was restored to factory settings. (The guys had a lot of trouble doing this, didn't seem an easy process)
Recently I plugged the iPod in (Windows 8) and added a few more albums.
Later on when playing the iPod on my dock, I noticed a lot of the CDs were missing, completely erased. I had heard of a bug on iTunes which removes CDs that haven't been bought via iTunes, but seems strange as NONE of my albums were bought from iTunes.
I've also noticed that songs appear to be corrupted on some albums. They begin to play, stop, then skip to the next playable song, skipping over the ones that won't play.
Problem is that when I plug it into my HP laptop, it freezes until it is unplugged again. Same with iTunes, it wont respond while the iPod is plugged in.
The computer registers it as a removable drive but says it is full. Device manager recognises it and says it is working ok and has the latest driver etc.
What I want to do it restore it to factory settings but I just can't do it via iTunes and the computer doesn't give me the option as it's not recognisable in 'My Computer' as an iPod.
Can't take it into the store again as the warranty has expired.
There must be a way to return it to factory settings, if not manually without a computer, than maybe via device manager?
I'm not too up on the technical side of things so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Peter.

Eventually managed to restore to factory settings.
Anyone heard about that ITunes 'bug/virus' or is it just scaremongering?

  • Computer doesn't recognize ipod and ipod freezes when connected via USB

My ipod has developed a problem.
    1. When hooked up to a computer it suddenly is not recognized by the computer--there is no "sync" noise and it odesn't appear in itunes. Also, all the buttons cease to function.
    2. Interestingly, it still works fine in my Boise player and also when in the car via audio cable.
    3. When i unplug it from the computer it works fine again.
    4. I tried a manual reset into disk mode hoping that i could "start over." Bad idea--still no connection AND now everything is off it.
Any ideas to help with this?
    Thanks a ton.

I have tried with two different cords and in different USB ports. I think it is an ipod problem, not a computer problem.

  • IPod doesn't sync right and iPod freezes

I personally have an 80gig, and love it so far (I've only had it for about a week). Before that I had an iPod nano 2nd gen that died, but thankfully I had the Best Buy replacement plan on it and I got to replace it free!
But my issue is with my mom's ipod. Its an ipod nano 3rd gen and when I add new music to her iTunes, and then sync her iPod, it doesn't put them on her iPod. Today she got to work and went to listen to them, and was really disappointed, because I'd spent quite a while downloading yesterday and then they weren't there. I just synced it again, and they are there now, but this isn't the first time it has happened. Whats up with this, it shouldn't be happening.
It also freezes every couple of times its used and about every other time I disconnect it from the computer.
Is anyone else having these problems? Have you found any solutions?
Apple, what are you doing about this, this is the 2nd iPod nano (different gen's) that we've had alot of trouble with, you need to step it up and get them working properly!
    Thanks,
    Amy

Try to do the [5R|http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs> and also download the newest version of iTunes (to do so go to  > Software Update)

  • Itunes and ipod freeze during sync

    hello,
firstly, i would like to thank all you kind souls who post to this forum with very helpful suggestions. you have helped me with many past difficulties.
my present issue concerns transferring songs from itunes to my ipod (4th generation). here's the story:
on friday, my ipod started acting funny (skipping songs, etc.). by saturday, it would no longer do anything (folder with !, resetting did not help). this had happened to me before so i did not freak out and figured i just had to restore (that had worked the first time around). however, when i plugged in my ipod to my computer (powerbook g4, just three weeks old), it was not recognised and i was prompted to initialize the disk. i then came to this forum and read pretty much everything related to this kind of problem. countless resets, erases, partitions, etc., later, i was able to get the ipod software back on the ipod. it seemed all normal but there was no music on it (makes sense since i'd restored it). but then...when i plugged in my ipod to sync it with itunes, it would freeze at a given song (not always the same one, sometimes 31 songs into it, sometimes 500). i came back to this forum and read that i should reset my ports, which i did. didn't help, the sync still freezes both the ipod and itunes.
so that's where i'm at: i have the ipod software on the ipod, but i can't sync it with itunes (i.e. i can't get my music onto it). my brother thinks i have bad blocks (or sectors). is this a possibility? the ipod does make some noise (not sure whether it's the infamous clicking...).
    so here are my questions:
    1) is there anything i haven't done yet that could get the ipod to sync with itunes?
assuming i have done everything and the problem is with my ipod's hard disk:
    2) would a program like disk warrior potentially be able to fix the ipod?
    3) would it cost me less to have the ipod serviced than to buy disk warrior?
    4) is there somekind of open-source or freeware disk repair utility that could perhaps repair my ipod's disk?
thanks for reading and i really look forward to any suggestions.
    gen
p.s. the ipod's more than a year old, so no longer under warranty.

Okay, I got it to work tonight...
My U2 iPod would freeze while syncing. I restored and tried to sync and it would freeze on different song #'s. All the while I heard a clicking sound coming from the drive that I never noticed before. It would just click once in a while, not repeatedly.
My fix: (a version of the carpet drop) While the iPod was on and spinning, I held it tight with my right hand, facing me and smacked it's side into the palm of my left hand, simulating the amount of force that it would incurr from a waist-high drop onto carpet.
Now, this force was sheer approximation, being that it would be too time consuming and difficult to calculate this exact amount of force. I mean, my waist may be higher/lower than the original carpet-dropper, and not to mention the plushness of the carpet! Who knows if he did it on Shenandoah Shagg or maybe just some Bermuda Burr Rug?!
By the way, the problem started after being left out in the car on recent cold nights... hmmmm, my iPod thinks me a jerk.
Anyways, here are some previous attempts at fixing my situation (in no particular order):
    1) restored from 5 different iPod updates (2004-11-15, 2005-02-22, 2005-06-26, 2005-09-23, 2005-11-17)
    2) tried to fix with Disk Utility
    3) tried to fix with Tech Tool Pro
    4) tried to fix with Disk Warrior
    5) tried to initialize multiple time (even writing zeroes)
    6) manual sync

  • IPod freezes computer when iTunes tries to connect to it..

SO, like a day after I installed the latest version of itunes, I decided to reset my ipod to get it running faster again. I have an 32G iPod touch 4th gen, I'm running Windows 7, and have the latest version of iTunes.
When I plug my (newly reset) ipod in, whether or not I have itunes running, all will work until itunes detects it, and a little loading symbol comes up beside the device. Moments later, my computer will freeze, requiring a hard reboot. Unplugging it has no effect. So far, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, setting my ipod up with different settings, trying to use it as a new ipod and trying to use it off my old backup, using windows' system recovery (which just uninstalled itunes,) and have reset my ipod many times. All with the same result, the moment itunes tries to connect to it, system freezes.
Nothing get's synced to the device, it just all stops. I'd really like to be able to use my ipod again, I have to get on a plane in a few days and don't want to die of boredom. Has anyone else had anything like this happen? Is there anywhere I could download the old version of itunes again and try it with that? Suggestions???

  • Songs gone from iPod, freezes computer when plugged in

Yesterday, I plugged my 5th gen 30 gig iPod into my computer to charge. The battery had drained completely, so it came up with that "Very Low Battery" warning and didn't connect to the computer right away. This has happened before, and I was running late for work, so I just left it plugged into my computer to charge.
When I got home, the iPod was charged and connected, allowing me to access my full library. I transferred 2 albums to the ipod and ejected like you're supposed to. When I tried to pick music to listen to, the iPod was empty. I've heard of this happening before, and after a few minutes of frustration and hoping that the music would just magically reappear, I plugged the iPod back into the computer and prepared to do a full restore.
When I plugged it in, the iPod went into its "Do Not Disconnect" mode and charged as usual. HOWEVER, both iTunes and Firefox froze. The computer itself did not lock up, and when I did ctrl-alt-del hoping it was just an iTunes issue, neither iTunes nor Firefox were coming up as Not Responding. Tried closing anyway using Task Manager, and they wouldn't close. Tried 'X'ing out, and it wouldn't close. Everything was unclickable and unresponsive, but Windows was working fine. I unplugged the ipod, and everything went back to normal.
I restarted my computer, and restored the settings on the iPod (although I think these are just volume, click wheel, etc. settings that have nothing to do with the hard drive), and plugged the iPod back in. Same thing. I can't even access the iPod to do a full system restore. When I plugged it in this second time, Vista came up with a message saying the drive that I have plugged in is corrupt, and do you want to format it now? I clicked yes, and it said it was unable to format a drive that was in use.
    Summary:
    iPod is showing zero songs.
Causes both iTunes and Firefox to become unresponsive upon connection to computer.
Cannot be reformatted by Windows because drive is in use.
Can't use the drive while it's connected because everything is frozen.
So I'm sitting here with an iPod that has no music and cannot be connected to my computer. Has it reached its end?

Did you get any resolve on this because my ipod seems to be suffering the same fate?

  • HELP --- iTunes and iPod freeze

I'm hoping someone can help me with this....I have an ipod Photo (using windows xp) and everytime I add music to my ipod, say 15 songs, itunes will freeze as soon as it finishes adding the songs. I get the "not responding," "error" prompt and have to close itunes and disconnect my ipod just to have it do it all over again. If I re-open itunes without disconnecting and reconnecting my ipod, itunes says it can't read the ipod. This is really annoying because everytime I want to add songs I have to go through this whole process. Does anyone know what I am talking about??? Thanks in advance for any tips you can give me.

  • After installing iTunes and iPod, my computer will not turn off

I am running Windows XP, and have just installed my new iPod nano and iTunes. Now my computer will not turn off. When I select "Turn off computer" in the start menu, the computer goes through the usual process of shutting down -- then it restarts automatically every time! Once it has started up again, it sends an Error report to windows -- but they are not coming forward with a solution for this problem. It appears as a problem created by an "Unknown device driver". I now have to turn my computer off by the wall. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Try running the Combo update first ... OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.4 (Combo), and once it is successfully downloaded, then try to download 10.8.5.
Sometimes the combo will correct any minor glitches in the system and also ensure all necessary updates to that point are included.
