ISight : black or green picture

Hello,
on my mid-2007 20" imac, the integrated iSight doesn't work any more. All I get is a black picture (with iChat) or green picture (with Photo Booth). No error message saying the iSight is already in use. The green light on the right of the camera lights when expected. The iSight is seen in the USB device list. I've tried all the ideas found on this forum and the support section of Apple web site ... I've reset the SMC, unplugged all other USB devices ... still no picture. And obviously, it worked in the past, I have succesfully used it for a few iChat sessions.
I'm not quite sure it's a hardware problem, and fell a kind of bug due to some recent OS revision (10.4.10). Anyone having this felling ?
Regards,
Philippe.

Hello Philippe
Here are the solutions that help most iNtel Mac users who encounter black or green-screen problems. None are complicated, but the only way to find which one will work for you is to continue down the list until you find the one that fixes your Mac.
(1) Check your System Preferences as explained in this kbase article about Built-in iSight camera produces blue or green pictures.
(2) Aluminum iMac users who have not yet applied the iMac Software Update 1.1 should repair permissions (click here if you need help with permissions repair), apply the iMac 1.1 update, and repair permissions again. Then check to see if your iSight works correctly.
(3) If your software is up to date and your System Preferences are set correctly, try every suggestion re: Built-in iSight in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article.
Be sure to include the checks for whether the problem is "application-specific" and "user-specific".
If you need help creating a new user account to check whether your problem is "user-specific" during Troubleshooting, see this Help article.
(4) If resetting or the other suggestions do correct your problem, try the following:
• Backup your Home Folder, or at very least, your important files.
• Repair permissions.
• Then download and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update v1.1 (iNtel).
• Finish with another Permissions Repair, and then check your iSight again.
Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying Combo Updates.
(5) Some iNtel Mac laptop users have also reported success after unplugging their Macs and leaving the battery out for half-an-hour to overnight. If none of the suggestions above corrects your problem, you might try disconnecting EVERYTHING, including power and peripherals, from your iMac for a while to see if that helps. However, nobody has yet reported that disconnecting helps anything but the laptop iNtel Macs.
(6) If none of these suggestions help, contact your retailer, Apple, or your Apple-Authorized Service Provider for professional repair.

  • Re: iSight : black or green picture

I'm experiencing a similar problem, although not QUITE the same. The green screen only happens in Photobooth. If I use the iSight for something like Skype or Yahoo, it works just fine.
    Any suggestions on THAT?

    Hello, jfoust
Because your problem is not EXACTLY the same, please start a new topic.
Your problem deserves the individual attention it will get in its own thread.
If you don't want to start a new thread, and if you haven't searched iSight discussions yet, you could try a search for "photo booth green screen" (without the quotation marks.) That search will return threads like this one that may obviate the need for you to post.

  • Hi! i took black and white pictures in RAW, but in Lightroom i see these only in color. what to do? thank you

hi! i took black and white pictures in RAW, but in Lightroom i see these only in color. what to do? thank you

You may want to read this I imported a mix of color and black and white raw files but lightroom changed all the black and white file to color?
The Black and white you see is just the cameras representation of the "raw" pixel information straight from the sensor. The RAW file format has yet to undergo demosaicing, and so it contains just one red, green, or blue value at each pixel location.
Lightroom, or any other RAW processor, doesn't recognize the in-camera processing because it is unique to the camera.

  • Changing colour of the bears from black to green

Hi! I am trying to change the colour of the bears in my image from black to green. Tried the method of using the magic wand to select all the similar black pixels to change to blue. However, the magic wand does not pick up all the pixels. Is there a better way to do this? Appreciate advice. Thanks!
    http://img240.imageshack.us/my.php?image=72dpibearsrx5.jpg

    Another way:
    1. Use the Magic Wand to select the background color. For my example below I used the default Tolerance value 32. I also unchecked the Contiguous box, so that the tiny piece of background at the bottom between Mama and baby is also selected.
    2. Invert the selection so that the bears are now selected.
    3. Set Foreground color to green.
    4. Edit>Fill.
Choose options Foreground Color, Mode = Color, Opacity 100%
    5. [optional] With the bears still selected add a Hue/Saturation layer. This will allow you to go back later to change the bears' lightness and color.

  • All of a sudden my iPhone 5s restarts alone and the camera takes green pictures

All of a sudden my iPhone 5s restarts alone and now the camera takes green pictures
I have the iOS 7.1 and for four months it's been working great, not now

First thing to try is a reset: Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)
If this doesn't help, back up and restore via iTunes. If the problem continues, restore as a new device and test. If the problem is solved, there is some kind of corruption in your backup file or maybe it's one of your apps causing problems. If it continues, take it to an Apple Store for evaluation of a possible hardware problem.

  • All of my documents are black with green text in acrobat X pro, how do I correct this?

all of my documents are black with green text in acrobat X pro, how do I correct this?

    Hi there Doug,
It sounds like you've enabled the High-Contrast Color option under Edit > Preferences > Accessibility (Win) or Acrobat > Preferences > Accessibility (Mac). Uncheck the 'Replace Document Colors' checkbox, then hit 'OK' to turn this off.

  • Black and white picture

    hi
How do I put colour in a black and white picture?

Which Adobe software are service are you trying to utilize to accomplish this task?

  • Canopus ADVC110 is giving me Black and White picture which is misaligned

Very new to Analogue to Digital converting so please forgive ignorance!
I am in the UK. I have Canopus ADVC110 is giving me black and white pictures which is misaligned and shows specked picture noise. I see bottom on one frame and top of another with a black line ("frame" rebate?) running through the middle of the monitor screen in iMovie.
I have leads from my camera plugged into the front of box and firewire out of the back into MacBook Pro running iMovieHD v6.0.3.
I have set the dip switches to both PAL and NTSC just in case I got the output from my camera wrong (even tho' says Pal on it).
In iMovie I choose DV as video format and it picks 29.97 fps automatically. iMovie shows me the capture is NTSC from the Canopus box.
The Canopus website has poor support so I am at Discussions mercy!

As you're in the UK, you MUST use the 'PAL' setting, and choose a new Project in iMovie to be 'PAL' ..that's 25 frames per second.
If you do that, your import will be OK, instead of of shifted and black-&-white.
Work with Pal throughout (25fps) and you'll be OK. Set iMovie's Preferences to PAL 25fps, then Quit iMovie and restart it, to force all future Projects to be PAL 25 fps.
Do the same, too, for iDVD if you're going to use that to burn DVDs after you've edited your movies.

  • Why does a black and white picture come out with a tint?  iPhoto, Canon

When I print a black and white picture from iPhoto, it comes out with a tint.  How do I prevent that? iPhoto, Canon MX310

    Hey neil293,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, when you print a photo in iPhoto it has a tint. I would recommend that you read this article, this article explains how to adjust the tint in a photo.

  • How to remove black borders from picture?

    http://www.homeofthenutty.com/twilight/screencaps/albums/TwilightPart2/Twilight1833.jpg
Is there a Photoshop tool that can easily remove the black borders from pictures like this? Anyway to extract the image from the black background?

You may be able to use the Image - Trim feature, though it requires exact pixel color matches, which may not be true with lossy compression (e.g., JPEGs).
Another way is to use the Magic Wand Selection Tool with some tolerance (e.g., 24), select the borders, invert the selection, then use Image - Crop.  It will cut off all fully selected rectangles of pixels.

  • The red in the monitor is yellow???  The black is green????????

    Dear Everyone,
About 5 days ago my powerbook monitor started showing red as yellow and black as green. The computer works the same(perfectly). But the display is hard to read. I certainlky can't do any work in Aadobe. Maybe you would say there is no contrast in the display. Anyway I can find where I can change the calibration.

Hmm. It doesn't quite sound like you've switched to "White on Black" mode in the Universal Access control panel in System Preferences.
How many colors is your display set to in the Displays control panel? Under the Color tab, what profile is selected?
