ISight built-in camera can't be found in only a select few applications

I just got yahoo messanger not that long ago, maybe two days. And i haven't used video conference for like a week. but when i tired using it today, the camera button by my screen name in iChat isn't there, its only the audio button now. iChat says that my computer doesnt support video conference. but i know it does cause i've used it many times before. now the iSight camera works when i open the webcam window in yahoo messanger and when i use Photo Booth or iMovie.
I don;t under stand why it would work for some applications all of a sudden and not others.
I looked in system profiler to see if it says that the camera is found under the USB header just in case. and it's there.
any help?

Hello, Aiden Star
I understand your response to be that iChat is the ONLY application you have tried that does not work with iSight in either user (admin) account.
If that is correct, try the following:
• Quit iChat if it is running.
• Throw away your com.apple.iChat.plist file. It is located in your
Home > Library > Preferences folder.
• Launch iChat again and test to see if the problem persists.
If your problem is still there, you should next check that your QuickTime Streaming Speed preferences are set to reflect your broadband speed rather than the "Automatic" setting. If you use Comcast cable ISP, you can try setting your iChat Audio/Video Bandwidth Limit to 500 kbps. You should also try the 200 setting if 500 does not work.
If your problem persists after trying all those things, search or post in the Leopard > iChat and iChat Sharing forum.

  • ISight Built in Camera on iMovie09 and speed problem. Please Help

    Hello,
I recently installed imovie09 after using imovie06 for quite sometime. I am getting two problems for now. First, when my videos from iPhoto got imported to iMovie, the audio is working fine but the actual clip is skipping. Is this normal? For me to able to fix it, I have to go to clip adjustment and do convert clip all the time. This is really annoying specially My video will consist at least 7 clips. Is there any other way? Second, I tried to use the isight built in camera so it can be only one clip. I noticed that when I was filming, my audio and my actual video is not on the right timing and when its time for me to save it and play it back, it was skipping also! I recorded 1 minute video and it will only play for 12 seconds! To top it off, it's not the first 12sec of the video but it's actually skipping through out the one minute clip I did.
Can anyone please help me with this situation. I will very much appreciate it. I don't want to end up regretting that I upgraded to imovie09 only to find out things will be much complicated
    Thanks,
    Ashtoush

    Hello Ashtoush
As you now know, iMovie '09 work differently than our iMovie HD 6.
Although your iMovie '09 offers many improvements over the previous iMovie '08 version, the older version imports the same way your iMovie version does, i.e., differently from iMovie HD 6.
User Jon Walker gives a complete explanation of your problem and offers workable solutions in this iMovie '08 forum thread:
      http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1134921
It seems you will have to convert your existing clips using one of the methods detailed there.
For future video clips, you may want to choose a different video capture device that is more compatible with your new iMovie so you will not need to do separate conversion.
For Apple Help on importing into your new iMovie, take a look at the suggestions here:

If restarting Mac or reinstalling OS X does not correct this symptom, you likely have a hardware problem.  Contact Apple Support or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for service.

My Mac book Air (late 2010) does not detect built-in camera, can anyone help?

Is the apple tv on the latest firmware? and also make sure it is on (white light is on). I know that sounds stupid, but it will go to sleep if you let it sit long enough and i have seen many cases where you cannot acces it via airplay if it is asleep.

  • I can no longer see all the App Store apps within any category, only a selected few such as the "Best of.."

Until recently if I went into the iTunes App Store to look for new Music apps (for example) I could click on See All and bingo, several thousand music apps, arranged chronologically, were visible. Now all I can see in the Music category are a few selected "Best New Apps" , and so forth.
Is there a new preference where I can change what is visible so I can once again see all Apps? Or has the iTunes App Store suddenly changed it's appearance to limit what one can see?

iCloud restores settings but not programs. You have to sync your phone with iTunes in order to install all the apps. Also, the iPhone 5 uses a different resolution, so it could be that VLC can't be opened on the device

  • ISight built in camera

The built in iSight camera on my MBA will not function. In PhotoBooth, the green light turns on, but a black screen appears and no photo images or video can be be recorded. The camera also does not work with Adobe Connect Pro webinar sofware. Any insights?

    1. Does the iSight show up in your System Profiler?
    2. Does it work with iChat?
    3. Login another User account. Does it work in there?
    4. Quit PhotoBooth and try trashing this preference file. Then retest it.

  • ISight Built-in camera trouble

I just acquired a MacBook today, having previously been a Windows User. I tried using PhotoBooth, but all I get is a green space, both in the preview space, and the picture after.
    Can anyone help?!?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, SiXELApurple
Here are some things you can try.
    (1) Check your System Preferences as explained in this kbase article:
     http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302520http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302520
    (2) If your System Preferences are set correctly, try every suggestion re: Built-in iSight in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93240
Be sure to include the checks for whether the problem is "application-specific" and "user-specific".
If you need help creating a new user account to check whether your problem is "user-specific" during Troubleshooting, see this Help article:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?
      path=Mac/10.4/en/mh168.html
    (3) If resetting or the other suggestions do correct your problem, you can try the following:- Backup your Home Folder, or at very least, your important files.
    - Repair permissions.
    - Then download and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update (iNtel)
      http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
      macosx1049comboupdateintel.html
    - Finish with another Permissions Repair, and then check your iSight again.Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying Combo Updates.
    (4) A few iNtel Mac laptop users have also reported success after unplugging their Macs and leaving the battery out for half-an-hour to overnight.
    (5) If none of these suggestions help, I suggest that you take your iMac to your Apple-Authorized Service Provider for a professional check.

  • ISight Built-in camera on MacBook stopped working

    Hello,
It seems that my iSight camera stopped working after the system update two days ago. I checked several solutions (like reset of SMC, creating other test account...) however this does not solve the issue. I also checked the system profiler and there is simply no iSight mentioned there (in the USB group). I don't have green screen when I launch the Photo Booth, it just shows the black frame with a white sign of no camera available. Same with Skype. I think the system (Leopard) just lost or does not recognize the camera anymore. Could someone come with an idea of fixing it please?
    Thanks a lot in advance,

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Yashper
If you have not done so recently, repair permissions (not "verify") and try using your iSight again.
If your problem persists, be sure you have tried all the suggestions relevant to your system from How to Troubleshoot iSight.
If your iSight is still not working or visible in System Profiler as a USB device when you have selected the items shown in this picture,
download and reapply the Mac OS X 10.5.1 Update. Repair permissions before you run the updater and again immediately following the restart that finishes the update.
If none of these things fix your problem, (and if you have not made any other software or hardware changes that might be causing the problem), contact your retailer, Apple, or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • My ISIGHT built in camera

i have been using the built camera fine for weeks on ichat. now it only gives me the telephonr option and no video. how do i turn my camera on again.i think it says its turned off.....man im frustrated. ANY help would be greatly appreciated:)

    Is the green light on?
If not, try opening Photo Booth and see if that works. Then close Photo Booth and restart iChat.
If that doesn't work, try restarting. It may just be locked up.

  • HT2090 My isight/ built-in camera is not working

I went to the Apple troubleshooting sight and the issue is that it is not recognized under the USB section in the system profiler. The camera is not recognized on all applications and I already tried doing a software update, restarting it, and resetting the SMC. It still doesn't work. No green light or anything. Any other suggestions on how to fix it? Is it possibly linked to the DVD drive I just got replaced in the computer? (I don't see how they'd be related, but whatever).

if the camera was working fine before the DVD drive replacement, and after you got it back it stopped working, that is an indication that something wrong happened during the repair and the shop needs to fix it free of charge.

  • Can the ":" char found in a multiple select list be shown differently?

I have a column which allows multiple values, say "Red, Green, Blue"
When it shows in the report, it shows as "Red:Green:Blue"
