ISight Camera not attached

I am new to MAC . I just purchased an IMAC 10.5 Oct 2, 2007. I can not get the iMovie to work.IDVD, IWeb, & iPhoto all say '08 but the iMovie doesn't. The only option that comes up under the camera is Time Lapse and I don't know how to fix it. I have read the help and tried software updates but nothing seems to work. What do I need to do to fix it?

One more thought, girlfmar.
Because you are new to Mac, you may not realize that Help on Macs can give you a LOT of help.
When you launch iMovie, use the iMovie > Help > iMovie Help command on your Mac for help getting started. You will also save a lot of time in the long run by using the iMovie Tutorial that is offered.
If you have reviewed both of the above and still need more help with iMovie, your next stop should be Apple's Mac 101: iMovie lesson.
You will find lots of other help for other Mac topics at Mac 101, including Switch 101 help if you are switching from a PC.
Enjoy your new Mac.

iMovie '08: Built-in iSight camera not recognized
    it says:
    In Finder, navigate to /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/
Select the file com.apple.mio.VDCAssistant.plist and delete.
    Restart your system.
You should now be able to use your iSight camera with iMovie.
However, in Yosemite, it only has this file name
    com.apple.cmio.VDCAssistant.plist
and I don't want to delete it as instructed without someone who knows telling me it won't hurt my newly installed and thus far working well OS 10.10.1, with iMovie 7.1.4 on my iMac 24 inch, Early 2008, 2.8 GHz Intel Dore 2 Duo, 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2  SDRAM.  It worked with Leopard, and I don't recall having to use the above mentioned support page.

Contact Apple. I believe you have a hardware issue there if it's not showing up in your System profiler.

  • Built in isight camera not working with flash

My built in isight camera on my macbook works just fine in photobooth and in skype or ichat.. but just in the past week or so, it will not work when im on websites that use flash. I've seen some threads that say that I need to go into settings and make sure that the camera chosen is the USB. When i go into flash settings, the only options are Google1, Google2, or Built in isight. It doesn't work with any of them. Does anyone have any idea how I can make it work again?

Your problem is not the same as that posted by the OP, and your system info shows you using Mac OS X (10.5.6).
For your symptoms with this system, I suggest you do the following:
    (1) Apply the 10.5.8 Combo Update using the following process:
      • Backup your Mac and turn off Time Machine
      • Disconnect peripherals and restart Mac
      • Use Disk Utility to repair permissions
      • Download and install
       http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
      • Repair permissions again immediately following the restart that finishes the update.
      • Test whether Flash works for you now.
(• Turn Time Machine on later when you are satisfied that the update worked.)
    (2) After applying the 10.5.8 Combo, if you are still having problems, download and install the latest Flash player compatible with your system:
      http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
Also check any other third-party browser plugins or other add ons. Apply all available updates and uninstall any third-party items that are known to be incompatible with your system.

  • (Slow Network): iSight camera not working in iChat since Leopard upgrade

I have a different type of iChat video issue. My Power Mac G4, 867 MHz, 1 GB DRAM is a supported Mac for the Leopard upgrade. I've successfully installed OS 10.5.
Also my Power Mac meets the iChat Conferencing Requirements for 1-on-1 Video Chat per the OS 10.5 system requirements and the application note here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301050
My iSight camera is connected via Firewire to an Apple Cinema Display, which feeds back to the Power Mac G4.
    1) When I boot from my 10.3.9 Carbon Copy Cloner backup my iSight works in iChat (at least locally to see myself) without any issue. Green light comes on and shows me locally on video and audio sound bars. Before the OS upgrade the iSight worked fine for live video conferences with iChat 2.1.3 under Mac OS 10.3.9
    2) Running OS 10.5 when I go to iChat 4.0's preferences video pane the following message is waiting "This computer does not support video conferencing."
    3) With Leopard iChat 4.0 the Connector Doctor under "capabilities" says "(Slow Network)" for 1-on-1 Video Chat and won't even show video locally or turn on the iSight's green light.

    Fixed!
My Power Mac Quicksilver G4, 867 MHz. problem with (Slow Network) in the iChat Connection Doctor, no video preview or video iChat since upgrading to OS 10.5 Leopard and iChat 4.0 has been solved with the following posted towards the end of the thread below. I can finally see my video preview with iChat 4.0 and have also video chatted successfully with one other user.

  • External iSight cam not working with iChat

I've got an external iSight cam that was working fine in 10.5.8 with iChat - I'm using 10.6.1 now. Now when I open iChat, the camera stays off (no green light) and iChat video preview says that another application is using the camera so it's not available, which of course, is not true.
I've tried everything I know, but can't get it to work. The camera works with Skype, so I know it's functioning properly.
When I checked the Connection Doctor, under Network, it says that there's something in my network setup that is preventing video chats, but I haven't changed anything since upgrading to SL. I have a direct ethernet cable to my DSL modem/router - Covad. My wife's iChat works fine with her new LogiTech camera, and she's on the same home network/router.

  • ISight Camera not working after Leopard install

On my 1st gen Intel 20" iMac, after the Leopard upgrade -- which went very smoothly -- my iSight camera no longer works. I have tried it in Photo Booth and iChat Video and it is the same in each, so it is the camera, apparently, not the application using it.
In the self-viewing screen on my iMac, I see myself for just a second or so, then I fade out quickly and there is nothing to see but black. If I shine a desk lamp in my face, then I can just barely see the outline of my image but the picture is mostly black. It seems like an exposure problem: the camera seems to adjust, shutting down as though I am very brightly lit but since I am not, it produces only a black picture.
I also have a 1st gen Intel white MacBook that I have also upgraded to Leopard. The iSight camera seems to work just fine on that computer. I tried out the video in Photo Booth and it worked great.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
I too am having the same problem, and I'm using the old school iSight camera and immediately after installing Leopard, it won't work. I can't even power up the camera. It will power up for about 3 seconds then power down as fast as the little green light came on. It was fine about an hour before the 10.5 install. I powered down and unplugged everything for about 10 mins. then plugged it all back in, and still not working. So I am back to the drawing board trying to sort this out. If anyone has anymore thoughts on this, pls. chime in. All the suggestions seem to work for you folks after a little tweak. I even booted into OF mode and reset-nvram and reset-all for kicks to give it an even fresher start.
    thanks!

  • ISight Camera not functioning correctly

I tried to use my iSight camera on iChat recently using an AIM account.
I try to have a video conference and I get the following message.
"There was a communication error during your chat."
My friend accepts but gets a message saying "invite or request timed out"
I use a router, I'm not sure what kind since my landlord has it.
I can use the iSight camera with Photo Booth and some chartrooms online work, java and flash chat rooms. For other chat rooms it doesn't work. Doesn't work on AIM chat for example.
I changed the firewall, security settings and all that on the iChat preferences, sharing and security, based on what other forums suggested.
    I need some help, please.

    Hello swisswiz
Because your iSight works with some apps, your problem is likely not with iSight. To eliminate iSight as a possible contributer to your problem, you can try the suggestions in Apple's How to Troubleshoot iSight. If iMovie, Photo Booth and iChat > Video > Video Preview work for you, the problem is not iSight related.
For iChat video, first thing you should do is to check your Mac's System Preference... > QuickTime > Streaming setting to be sure your "Streaming Speed" is set to the approximate speed that your ISP provides. Do NOT leave it set to Automatic. Ask you landlord about your service if you do not know.
ONLY if your landlord uses Comcast Internet Service or has a T1 or faster internet service, you should also set your iChat > Preferences.... > Audio/Video > Bandwidth Limit to 500 kbps. Test iChat again. If the problem remains, try 200 kbps and even 100 kbps.
If you still have the problem, both you and your contact should try video chat with more than one other person to try to determine which end of the connection is the problem system. If your chat contact can video with everyone but you, but you cannot video with anyone, the problem is at your end.
If you can text chat but not audio or video, perhaps your landlord-supplied internet service does not meet Mac OS X 10.5: iChat System Requirementsminimum bandwidth (speed) requirements. You can test this by using http://www.speedtest.net/ when no other applications are running. Both you and your chat friend must have broadband in order for video to work.
If you can rule out possible bandwidth issues, ask your landlord to reboot his modem and router. Then test again. Whenever I have problem with video, the first thing I try is to reboot my modem, router, and Mac. That usually restores video capability.
If you still have problems, your landlord may be blocking at least some of the ports iChat needs. If so, ask him if he will change that. An easy way to test whether your landlord's system is the problem is for you to try video from a different location. If you cannot try from a friend's broadband internet outside your landlord's network, try from a computer store, library, internet cafe, etc. that offers broadband connections.
If none of these help you, when you post back, tell us what OS and chat app is used by your problem video contact.
Also confirm that you have tried the above suggestions and post back any salient details you learned when you tested including, uplink and downlink speeds, which tested contacts worked and which did not, and whether the problem was EXACTLY the same when you tried video using a different ISP than your home location.
Someone will likely be able to offer specific suggestions based on the details in your response.

  • ISight Camera not working and green light won't cut off

Ok, so I used to use macs all the time (exclusively) then I left for a few years, and now that I am back I have had a great experience so far except for this oddity...
I have no idea why but all of the sudden my little green light beside my built-in isight camera won't go away, I am not even trying to use it in any application. When I do, however, try to use it in photobooth for example it yields nothing but blackness. So, to troubleshoot I figured I'd try two things:
Re-installing Mac OS X from scratch using the CDs that came with it (no big loss, I wanted to customize the installation anyways)
Reset the SMC (I am used to resetting PRAM and stuff like that, so it's been a while for me)
Both of those have yielded no change.
I would have searched the forums for answers but apparently that feature has been turned off temporarily to help "improve support", or something I read rather quickly earlier lol
So I call upon you, Mac Geniuses, to please come to my aid...surely there is something else I can do to fix the isight on my macbook. I just got it, granted I got it refurbished from Apple, I expected nothing less than top notch from Apple as they have always delivered before.
Thanks in advance for any help!!
    -Joshua

Ok, my mistake...When I went to reset the SMC I noticed when I upgraded the memory the retention bar that holds things *around the battery, I guess* into place wasn't in there the way it should be, the metal tab wasn't in it's little slot, so I fixed that error, then went on with the procedure and then no more problem
I'm an idiot, Apple rules, I'll be the first to admit it LOL
    Have a great day!

  • Isight camera "not connected" but IS in USB configuration

My iSight [BUILT-IN] camera keeps being reported as "There is no camera connected" in 'Photo Booth', though it Does show up in the USB configuration of System Profiler, and most times still functions OK using Google Video Chat. (for the first 'known' time, it did not work for Google this past week)
So far, resetting the SMC has corrected the problem, but only for a few hours.
Is there a COMMAND I can give the MacBook to do what the SMC "fixes"?
Why is it being controlled by "System Preferences - Other - Flash Player"   instead of "Hardware"??  It seems that I Can Not just set it to "Block" because this also asks if I want Google Mail to be "allowed", which is my video chat method.
There are NO other users (a TEST account is set up for when I sent it to Apple last year, but that is Not Used); I simply would like to sometimes run Photo Booth to image the room or do a new profile pic, but this Constant Problem stops that.

  • External iSight Camera not working after update installed?

a couple of weeks ago I turned on iChat and up popped a window that said i needed to update the (external) iSight camera i had plugged into my minimac (firewire). followed the instructions and did just that. little greenlight glowed happily, rotated lens and opened iChat--little green light blinked off and then iChat showed that the camera was not turned on. tried turning it on and off by rotating the lens, unplugging firewire and also restarted computer...no change. looked for update to firmware and downloaded 1.0.3, only to be told it does not work with OS 10.4 (bummer).
had a back up camera, plugged that in and no problems...trouble is roomate recently got the pop-up screen when he was using it and, thinking he was doing me a favor, 'updated'...so now have 2 cameras that do not work and no answers to be found on the posts or the apple support site.
    any ideas?

    Welcome to Discussions, johnboysf
    (1) Assuming you are not ANY having other problems with your Macs and that your Mac OS X Maintenance is up to date, you can concentrate on the iSight part of your system(s).
Restart your Mac with no unnecessary peripherals connected and try the suggestions here:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93240
    (2) If your iSight still does not work with any app, check for Possible hardware or software conflicts with iSight.
    (3) I cannot tell whether your mini is an iNtel or PPC. Apply the appropriate Combo Updater as follows if you still have the problem:
    • Backup your Home Folder, or at very least, your important files.
    • Repair permissions. (Click here if you need help.)
    • For PPC, download and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update (PPC).
    • For iNtel, download and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update v1.1 (Intel).
    • Finish with another Permissions Repair, and then check your iSight again.
Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying Combo Updates.
    (4) If your problem persists after trying all of the above, the problem may be with your iSight itself. The fact that you got that notification after you had previously been using your iSight successfully under OS 10.4.x, and the fact that the updater ran for you and your roommate under OS 10.4.x, makes me think there may be something wrong with your iSights. The Tiger (10.4.x) OS includes all the necessary earlier update (including iSight Firmware 1.0.3) and installs the Firmware update if necessary at the time you installed Tiger or first connected your iSight. Therefore, the Firmware update should be unnecessary and should not have been identified by Software Update... as being needed (unless someone has improperly thrown away some OS X files.)
As you note, iSight Firmware 1.0.3 will not run except on Mac OS X v10.3.7-10.3.9 (or, it now seems, if something is wrong.) If you have access to a Firewire-equipped Mac that is using one of these OSs, you can try applying the update to your iSights using that Mac.
    (5) If you cannot find a Mac that is still using Panther, or if applying the update does not resolve your problem, contact your Apple Authorized Service Provider for professional service. Ask your AASP if he wants to see your Macs, too, to check whether their software has been modified or damaged.

    Welcome to Discussions, radarina
The restart was a the best first step.
Next, try all relevant suggestions from:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
If your iSight problem still occurs in more than one app and more than one user account, the reset suggested there often restores proper function of inbuilt iSight.
However, if your built-in iSight still does not work after carefully following all the suggestions in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article, and if iSight does not show as a USB hardware device in your Mac's System Profiler, yours is most likely a hardware problem. In that case, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • Macbook Retina Display isight camera not working - graphics freeze

I recently bought a base MBP-RD and can say that I am overall impressed with it, though I have found a couple issues already. One of them is related to the iSight camera which for some reason doesn't work. The camera appears in system profiler, but it shows as "camera not detected" when trying to launch application like iChat, Skype, FaceTime, etc. I already tried re-installing OSX Lion, and still not working.
I have also found some weird issue with graphics where it freezes a series of frames when going to Mission Control or App Expose.
I am returning this computer as there are other things I didn't like, but overall pretty impressive (no LED battery indicator, no Lock slot, no sleep light indicator...)
Please reply if you have same issue.

i think Macbook Pro is a good computer but plenty of issues, since day one.
i received my computer with space bar cracked. i figured this out @ night when the keyboard backlight was.
then my USB port ***** on it, it does not read all.
even after the update no go the USB port does not  work all the time with the apple usb to ethernet adapter.
while if i install vmware it does work on the windows in VMware environement.
my Camera also is not being detected    how can i fix the camera.
